    May 2022 surgery?

One week to go! This 2 week liquid diet is killing me! Just thinking about the end goal though 😎

    June 2022 surgery buddies

My surgery date is June 2, and I’m on day 5 of the liver shrink diet. I kind of want to die, but I’ve lost 11 lbs! Can’t want for next week so I can stop eating plain oatmeal!
  3. Sleeve recovery was easier for me. I was off 3 weeks only because I didn’t have confidence in my ability to meet my Fluid intake goals at a fast paced hospital job until week 4 started. For the bypass, I’m off 3 weeks because it’s needed. I’m still in pain. Bending hurts. Bowels aren’t regular yet. Fluid intake isn’t met yet. It definitely hurts worse and is taking way more of my energy. Weight loss so far is faster with my bypass. But I am currently in the famous week 3 stall. -25 since 5/6 🤷🏼‍♀️ But I did lose -110lbs with my sleeve so it can be done before GERD and regain. Keep up the research, I hope it helps you ❤️
  4. Great job. You Are doing better then me. I'm almost 4 weeks out and I've lost only 15 lbs. I've been at a stall for almost 2 weeks.
  5. 5’3 25 y/o F SW:284 CW: 255.0 I don’t see a major difference, but i feel better and have more energy. I don’t feel hungry but still try to get 3 “meals” a day. Just wanted to see who is close to the same surgery date as me and how you guys are feeling ❤️ **yesterdays pic is on the left. right pic is day before surgery! ***just wanted to note I had gastric sleeve surgery, hiatal hernia repair, and gallbladder removal. my first week was extremely rough, but I seem to feel better every day.
  6. Wowzers! So it might be true then; taller sleevers simply have taller sleeves. Thanks for the post Kelly 😍- it's given good insight Despite my ability to eat more food, I'm averaging 4.8lbs loss each week. I'm well chuffed with that!

    February 2022 Surgery Buddies

Hi Everyone, I had the gastric sleeve surgery on February 1, and tomorrow will mark 16 weeks since my surgery. I'm doing pretty well (65.3 pounds down since start of pre-op two week diet, and 48 pounds down since the surgery), but I've definitely noticed that my weight loss is slowing down. I'm a little worried that I'm starting to snack more often (I'm loving sugar free chocolate pudding make with skim milk), and I need to focus on not resuming the snacking habit and sticking to my five small meals per day. I think I'm also starting to slack a bit on my protein intake - I'm averaging only 56 grams of protein a day for the past two weeks since I had a work trip out of town and struggled to get enough protein while traveling. I also need to work on maintaining my fluid intake. I guess I'm revealing this here to reinforce that I need to be accountable to my goals. I hope everyone is doing well!
  8. @LookingForward22 Thank you! This is super helpful. Agreed you should be 100% comfortable with who is doing the surgery. If I move forward. My husband is super supportive and I'm hoping he hops on board if I make this decision and truthfully, he's really good about asking questions and observing where sometimes I am not... Not for lack of care, but sometimes I miss important things where he catches them haha. I think that'll be helpful when it comes to really digging into who we I'll be seeing and talking with. Happy to hear you are comfortable now with the new option and all the best! @The Greater Fool Thanks! this is very helpful. I read a bit on how some have been able to prove skin reconstruction can be proved as health required with some insurance but hadn't found too much on the more in-depth what insurances/proving other than back and rash issues. I read the tummy-tucks were more likely covered due to the back issues but not as much on other areas. Appreciate the additional info on this. @redhead_che Truthfully, I haven't looked into bypass too much but know someone going for sleeve and also read/head it was a shorter recovery, but as I said, I haven't looked/confirmed this yet since I'm still more in research mode haha. I appreciate the mention, though. I definitely am open to other options to move forward with a healthier lifestyle. Since you have had both, do you happen to have any feedback on recovery, and do you find now that bypass has been more effective in weight loss than the sleeve now? @LilaNicole20 In addition to my post above, definitely interested in your experience with bypass too with any recovery and after feelings. Will look into videos and posts with experiences as well to help educate myself on both. I currently only have a referral in somewhere as of late last week so waiting to schedule something and talk to a dr about options too but I want to kinda soak up info so I can prepare some questions when I can meet with someone. Thanks everyone!! ❤️

    Dr Sanborn - Chattanooga TN

I'm sure that you've been contacted by now, but I finished my checklist last week and I was scheduled today. I'll have RNY July 21st with Dr. Cronk. I could have had it as early as June 30th, but I wanted to wait until after vacation. Sent from my SM-G965U using BariatricPal mobile app

    PreOp Diet Struggles

I did 2 week pre op liquid with lean proteins and 2 week all loquid post op. It's HARD, it's DEPRESSING, it SUCKS but it's worth it! Slip ups are OK, just get back on track and give yourself enough time to eat/drinkc to your doctors orders before surgery. Personally, sugar free Gatorade, sugar free jello (particularly strawberry), sugar free jolly ranchers, sugar free menthol drops, and sugar free popsicles got me through the worst of it. Blending your shakes with ice too is yummy, makes it taste more like a milkshake rather than a sad thick milk Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app
  11. Well, as the title says I'm about 21 months out and now starting to gain. I got down to 143 (my goal was 130, but I was comfortable in the 140s). I'm now back up to 155. Over the past year, I've also developed a bruising issue and have multiple bruises on my arms and legs, mostly on the left side; random but moderate/severe aches & pains; brain fog; severe fatigue, and other idiopathic symptoms. I have a physical scheduled for mid-June, but I'm wondering if any of these things are common after surgery. As for my weight gain, nothing has really changed. I still eat very clean, limit myself to two low-sugar/low-calorie alcoholic beverages a week, and really try to take care of myself. With the aches, pains & fatigue, I'm finding it difficult to keep up with working out, but to be honest, I probably wasn't working out as much as I should be anyway. Mostly walking & biking. I'm also at the age where hormones are likely changing (I'll be 50 in two months). Any idea what might be going on or how to restart the weight loss? Thanks.

    PreOp Diet Struggles

I have a three week liquid diet that starts 6/1. It is called a liquid diet, but I am able to have no starchy veggies as well. I've talked to friends that have used the same surgeon and had the same diet and they all admit to having lean chicken once or twice a week during pre-op. Unless you are out eating fast, fried foods for cheat meals, you should be fine.

    Literally crying right now

I did not start getting much restriction until about 6 weeks out. I felt the same way as you like "is this surgery even working?????!!!!!". The only thing that helped me was I had zero hunger (I still do not have it, actually) so I was pushing myself to eat and could easily stop because I wasn't hungry to begin with. Once your nerves heal more, you'll feel that restriction. Be careful not to overdo it now though or you'll end up getting sick or having dumping syndrome. I do think what you're experiencing is normal though.

Definitely understand being nervous. Yesterday I had my goodbye to fried foods meal. Ironically wasn't as enjoyable as I remember. Today I start my 3 week pre-op diet. Y'all I have an honest question.. what is the difference between premier protein shakes and elevation protein shakes (the aldi brand) other than cost? I did a side by side label comparison and either I am missing something (it is early) or there isn't any.

Hey there! Me too…RNY, hernia repair on June 8. Best wishes to you for a successful and uneventful experience. I start my 2 week in a couple of days too.

Hi everyone, new to the forum. I'm getting sleeved June 8th. I'll be starting my 2 week pre-op diet in a couple of days, so I'm enjoying my last days of regular food for awhile. I'm getting excited, but I must admit a little nervous! It seems surreal that the big day is almost here. This seems like a great group, and I'm happy to meet you all😊

    Feeling a bit discouraged…

You’re losing around 4lbs a week. That’s a great rate especially with your starting weight. I hated protein shakes too & just suffered through the two week liquid stage. Soon as I was on purées I put those powders away & never had another one. Yes, it was a struggle to get in my protein eating ‘real’ food because my portion sizes were so small but as long as I was close I was happy & so was my surgeon. I found a great high protein yoghurt & yoghurt drink which gave me a good boost of protein (15-30g) every day. Worth a try. You may have to try a few to find one you enjoy - some are very sweet. Give yourself time to recover & heal. You’ll be feeling better & more comfortable about your food choices & options before you realise it.

    Literally crying right now

As @SleeverSk said your nerves are still healing after being cut during the surgery & you won’t feel signals yet which is why it’s important to stick to the portion sizes you’re given & your eating plan. All because you can doesn’t mean you should. The staged return to eating is there for a reason - to support & protect your healing tummy. Remember all those staples & sutures holding your tummy together. Yes, we all recover & heal at our own pace but you can’t see your tummy to assess how you are healing. Stick to your plan & eat slowly is always safest. Testing a food a couple of days before your plan says to is ok. Trying something a solid food like a chicken thigh three weeks before your plan likely recommends isn’t the best choice.

Your sleeve can hold about 3-4oz of food... I am 5-6 weeks post op and i can eat about 4oz of food in one sitting.. but i take my time. I eat slowely and chew chew chew. for example. 1 chicken egg scrambled, a handful of chopped onions, 2-3oz of turkey sausage and 1 slice of cheese is my normal breakfast lately. I eat about half and relax. Then maybe 10-15 minutes later i take another bite and so on.

My surgery date is June 8. Have been told to be at the hospital at 5:30am, surgery scheduled for 7:30am. The practice I am using has 1-4 week plans. I’ve been told to follow the 2 week plan. The first week of it looks easy, but the week before surgery is shakes and water only…no matter what. My problem with that will be they only allow Bariatric Pal or Premier. I don’t really care for Premier, but I’m going to force myself to get used to them. Post-surgery any shake that meets the practice’s sugar and protein numbers is fine. I have a pre-procedure ZOOM call on 5/31, pre-anesthesia testing on 6/1 and a Bariatric Education post-op class and the date will be provided before I leave the hospital. There is something called Enhanced Recovery after Bariatric Surgery that is an important part of the practice’s protocol and everyone participates in that. I’m pasting a brief blurb about that below. That’s it for now. We have more kids suddenly testing positive for Covid in our school so I am back to wearing a mask. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I’ve been scrupulous about keeping desks, chairs, door handles wiped down since September. What is Enhanced Recovery after Bariatric Surgery (ERAS Bariatric) and why do we use it? Enhanced Recovery After Surgery is a care plan that helps speed up recovery after your surgery. ERAS Bariatric involves teamwork between your health care providers and YOU! Good luck to everyone getting ready and those of you recovering.
  21. I have two weeks preop liquid diet I feel so defeated. I just found this forum because I really need support. I have 5 days left before my surgery 5/27/22 and I have slipped up. Actually, a couple slip ups. It’s crazy how some of us are on a strictly liquid diet and some are able to have lean meats and veggies
  22. How many weeks of pre op you have ? I have 7 days left until surgery. And I ate in the resto. I wanna cry. But im thinking of doing laxative tonight

My surgery is June 6 as well. This last week was tough but I feel better going into this next week. How are you doing?
  25. So I just had my first solid food. I had chicken. Not the canned stuff, but chicken legs. I had 2 of them. They were amazing. But I'm only 19 days post op and I had NO restriction, NO fullness, NO discomfort, nothing. WHY am I able to eat this much already? And I thought once solid food was introduced, that's where restriction would come into play. So what's going on with me? Did my doctor leave too much stomach? WHERE IS MY RESTRICTION??? After eating my normal mushy lunch, it was about an hour later that I had the 2 chicken legs. And now I feel comfortable, but not full. Why do I still have so much hunger? And why am I able to eat so much? I keep trying not to, but I get so hungry!!! Not for anything specific, but actually hungry. Eating 5x a day was too much, but lowering it keeps me hungry all day. And it's hard to ignore the hunger. It's not stomach acid (I never had reflux or gerd before but I'm on Prilosec through my 1st 6 weeks anyway). So now I'm in tears because I went through all of that pain and discomfort, and it feels like it was all for nothing. I'm really trying to stick to eating small amounts. And yes, in the past I could eat 6 or 7 chicken legs in one sitting. So I'm happy it's less. But at the same time, I wonder if I could have eaten more tonight if I let myself. I don't want to find out, and I'm not going to. But I'm beside myself right now. Starting tomorrow I'm going to try and do a full reset and see if I can't figure this out. I walk on the treadmill for 30 minutes a day twice a day. But I'm going to try to go back to basics, if I can. I've been able to progress through the diet stages faster than anyone thought I could, and my stomach has been completely fine. I'm so upset. I really am. This is the first time I've eaten more than I should, and I honestly didn't think I would be able to. I won't be doing it again, but I'm so mad that I could at all!!!!!
