Do you use PatchMD vitamin patches?
UpdateYourWeight replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I also have been thinking of the same thing, as I thought maybe they can develop Patches specifically designed for bariatric patients; an ever growing population IMHO. I was sleeved 4 years ago, got in an accident driving home from work (I simply passed out at the steering wheel) and this led me to discover that I was significantly Iron deficient and needed an immediate iron transfusion. I was recently told the same thing, but I simply refuse to have another transfusion. My B12 and Vitamin D were also not that great. I ordered 4 months worth of the patches (they recently had a 30% off deal). My order arrived 4 days ago, including the Multivitamin patch, iron, vitamin D with Calcium, and B12. Total with shipping and tax = $249.54. I don't know if it's all in my head, but today is the first day, I go through everything I need to do without needing to pass out into a random nap -- sometimes before I am able to drive home. But wow, I feel so good today and I am still up and not sleepy at all. I use all 4 patches together by the way and leave them on pretty much all day till I need to shower/replace. Can't wait to get blood work done 3 months from now and see concrete results, especially since I am thinking of having revision surgery -- sleeve to RNY due to GERD issues and wanting to lose more weight, and my deficiencies have been discouraging. Renewed strength and hope today, thanks to these amazing patches! -

Welcome Danielle! I'm so glad you found us! You've already gone through the "hard" part- living through the problems with the band, the pre-op for bypass, and now surgery. Welcome to the other side! I'm bypass, but never had band or sleeve. There are many here who have had revisions though, and they will pipe in, I'm sure! So you are- by my count- 6 days post op- still on liquids? Soon to be on mushies?? You will, of course, have lots to offer, and lots to learn. As for cold feet? Not necessarily cold feet- but I know I am, in general, colder than I was pre-op. Again, welcome! Hi everyone my name is Danielle. I had the revision from lap band to gastric bypass done on September 6 , 2016. I had the band done in 2009 and had so many problems with it from vomiting to constant chest pain. When I tried to return to my surgeon he went out of practice due to many lawsuits that were ahead of him. I tried a GI doctor having a endoscopy and med treatments. That helped temporarily. Then my grandmother had dementia so I dedicated my life to helping my mom with her care at home until her passing. Just searching one day I found a office and made a appointment. When the Surgeon told me that he could fix it i was so overwhelmed with Joy. I went through the pre op process which took 7 months. On my surgery day after my surgery he came to my room to talk to me instead of the 2 hours it took 4 and a half hours because the lap band was embedded in my stomach but he said he was determined to get it done and he sure did! That night after I was awake and although I was in pain I walked and when I got to my room I walked and walked. I tolerated the po challenge of one liter the next day and 2 hours later I was discharged. I am so thankful and happy to find this app and happy to see some people are around my surgery date and especially the people who have had it done before are here to help us whom have just entered the journey. Ps. Has anyone had problems with cold feet?

Does VSG typically increase heartburn
Oregondaisy replied to krissyleigh's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am 7 years out from my sleeve surgery and I have just now started to have unbearable heartburn. It's really painful. I take Gavascon liquid quite frequently, tums as well. I take Nexium right now, but I've found if I switch between nexium and Protonix, it seems to work better. I was taking Protoinix and it quit working. then I switched to Nexium which worked for awhile. It stopped working so I went back to Protonix. Again it worked for awhile, and now I am back on Nexium. I don't know what I'll do if it gets worse bc I don't have the money to pay for a revision to bypass. My ins. would not cover it. -
All happening so quickly!

Have you checked out other options? I see so many band revisions it scared me away from it! Just make sure you do plenty of research (not just with the center doing your band.) and good luck!!!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

I'm a band to sleeve revision. I did not have acid reflux before the sleeve. Now I do have it with vengeance. I took omeprazole for 15 months which took care of the reflux but my regular doc took me off it becuz of the bad longterm side effect (dementia, and liver problems) . Then came the acid reflux. Now I take Famotidine 20mg Tablets twice a day. It helps but still take TUMS about 5 times a day. The upside is I don't eat as much because as soon as I eat sometihng the acid starts up and I'm lose all hunger. -

I often hear how your surgeon should be board certified...has anyone ever used a doctor that was not board certified. I have a doctor out of UIC in Chicago and unless i'm spelling his name wrong when I look him up it doesnt say he is board certified. Thoughts???? -

I'm glad you are cancer-free! Please be sure to check whether you have sleep apnea before surgery as that could be dangerous while under anesthesia. Also - sometimes reflux can worsen with the sleeve and require a revision to Bypass so be sure you have talked to the surgeon about that and make the right decision on what surgery to have. Best of luck! -
I had severe port pain when I had the Lap Band. When I would complain, the surgeon would always tell me that the Lap Band was on the other side and that the port shouldn't hurt. As soon as I revised to sleeve, the pain immediately subsided. I'm just glad that I had the revision!! Good luck on getting approved. Don't give up!!

I didn't lose any weight with the lap band. I was band 11 yrs ago. I will have the revision a week from tomorrow. Going from band to sleeve switch. My Dr is very confident I will lose at least 90lbs. Has anyone gone from the band to Dodenal switch in one surgery? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

Majority of Band to Sleeve Revisions done in two surgeries?!
Sai replied to SwampBillies's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had the band removed and got sleeved on Sept. 2, 2016. I had the band since 2009. I'm pretty sure there was a lot of scar tissue. The surgery took about an hour, I was in at 5 am, surgery was at 7 am, walking at 11 am, and I was released at 4 pm. I believe it's the only way my surgeon does revisions. I think it's more common for surgeons to do it in 1 step now, but I'm sure it has to do with preference and skill as well. Either way works. ^^ -
Does VSG typically increase heartburn
stacyrg2 replied to krissyleigh's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My surgeon has significant experience and specializes in not only Bariatric surgery but reflux surgery as well. I had zero complications after either surgery. I fact I recovered significantly faster from my conversion to RNY than from my VSG. Yes my insurance paid for it. Which, frankly, was a shock to me. My surgeon does a significant number of revision surgeries and gets referrals from other doctors in the LA area. Reflux is the worst and I'm grateful every day that it's gone. If you have any other questions feel free to contact me! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
I smoked a pack a day for 20 years. I stopped when I went 911 in 2009. Before that I went to the ER every month due to lung problems, severe and ongoing bronchitis...etc. I switched to vaping shortly after my 911 episode. I've been a hardcore vaper now for over 6 years. In the 6 years I've vaped, I got the flu like only 4 times, never again to have bronchitis. For my band to sleeve revision surgery this year, I went through a serious of intensive testing. I passed with flying colors all my heart and lung tests, nuclear stress tests... etc. I was told that my chest x-ray was clear as if I never smoked, absolutely no scarring, no evidence of ever smoking. My blood and urine tests are all perfect. So congrats and glad you switched over. Vaping saves lives.

Does VSG typically increase heartburn
Pea523 replied to krissyleigh's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@@stacyrg2 can you tell me how experienced your surgeon was? Did you have any complications after the surgery? Also did your insurance pay for it? I am really scared. I am starting to have a burning sensation when I wake up in the middle of the night - I think it is LPR because I can taste Fluid going up my throat. My voice is hoarse, and now I have this weird sensation in my chest. Some days I can taste a tiny bit of blood in the back of my throat. I just wish my dr had given me statistics on this. I told him that I didn't want the sleeve because of malabsorption issues, and he told me that it was a legitimate reason: However he did not tell me that the malabsorption can weight out the possibility of developing esophageal carcinoma down the line. I explained to him that I had an uncle who died from it. Did you see a doctor who specializes in revisions from sleeve to roux en y? Thanks for your answers. -
Band to Sleeve people, how was your recovery?
Sai replied to Sai's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Yep, us band to sleeve patients have it completely different. I haven't had any problems with eating or drinking anything, which disturbed me for months. I expected all the things I read on here - BIG mistake!! I don't have to chew a million times and I can chug Water just like before. Another thing, us revision patients lose SLOWLY as I found out only after surgery. My surgeon doesn't really have an explanation as to why this is, but he says it is indeed a fact. As far as the surgery itself and post op, I had quite a bit of pain because of my 2nd hiatal hernia repair. Sometimes I wonder what goes on inside of me, lol. Wish you well! Hope you have a little quicker weight loss than I am having. But it's still better than before Thank you for replying, and for the useful information, Susan! -

Bypass to band
WLSResources/ClothingExch replied to bandzwillmakeherdance's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have a feeling that your situation is unusual. Revision seems most often from band to sleeve or bypass. A few years back, however, I met someone who did what you did. Whether the band is diminishing your appetite yet, are you eating properly to lose weight? The band isn't magical. We're still the ones who do the work. As you found with bypass, regain is possible with any of the surgeries. Has anyone taken time to be sure you understand that it can take several adjustments before the band becomes a working partner? The amount of saline in a band is irrelevant. The only thing that matters is having the amount that works for the particular individual. It's also true that even after a band is optimally adjusted, all can change. The band was long known as "the fickle bittch" for that reason. I can't say "don't be discouraged" because you already are. How about "look at it with renewed determination?" P.S. There's a brand new forum for people who have regained weight. You may want to take a look. I'll see if I can find a link for you and will be right back. Here it is. The forum is set up for any number of topics, but right now, this is it I think. There are other topics announcing the new forum, but they are not part of the forum. (I think.) http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/376815-wow-i-am-so-humbled/
