Thanks! I'm eating Greek yogurt for breakfast, drinking apple juice, Vitamin water and water, Protein drinks in between and for dinner either mashed potatoes or chicken broth. It really is all about learning new foods and flavors and learning to lesson to your stomach! It's crazy how much I miss the sensation of chewing. I feel like every day I am doing better getting to my goal water and calorie/protein intake. Sent from my SM-G900V using the BariatricPal App

After I got past the yuk of the first few days, I was ravenous!! I was probably really hungry like that for 10 days and thinking, what the heck - shouldn't the balloon make me feel full all of the time?!? But that passed and now I do get/feel full. I think it just takes your brain a week or so to catch up to your stomach, or for your body to adjust to the reduced calories or something. So be patient - it will pass. Try to get as much Protein as possible - that will help. Greek yogurt, milk, cottage cheese. You can even add Protein powder to them to beef them up. That will make you feel more full. As will Water. What's the challenge with the water - do you not like it or is just hard to get it all in? If you feel like you're ready to "eat" then you may be ready to start the really soft stuff, like scrambled eggs. That made me feel a lot better. Then I did frozen spaghetti in meat sauce and I chewed it up really well. Something about that was comforting, soothing and satiating. Having said that, some people struggle with Pasta but I have not - especially the frozen stuff since it's so soft. It's very satisfying for me. Ease in to new things to make sure they agree with you. But if you feel ready to move on, you may be. Just don't do too much at once - you don't want to overeat and end up feeling miserable. Hang in there - you're doing great!! Snacks for Movie Theatre Ideas?
Alex Brecher replied to reachbree's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@reachbree, Since you mentioned Slurpees, it made me think of: can you ask for a cup of shaved ice/ice chips (like a snow cone or slurpee) and add your own Water flavoring enhancer like Crystal Light or Mio drops? Single-serve sugar-free pudding cups could work, although yogurt is generally healthier. I would think carefully before snacking during movies. It may be that it keeps the movie fun for you and you can keep the snacking to a carefully planned snack. However, it could also be that it perpetuates a bad habit and leads to over-eating, since a movie is so long and each small snack only lasts for a few minutes. Everyone’s different, so it’s up to you and what you think is best for yourself. -
Oops! I just swallowed a pill whole
Ruin's Angel replied to ACJordan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told if the pills are very large to cut them into pieces with a pill cutter or to crush them. I also take Bariatric Choice's new All-In-One chewable Vitamins. They include everything so I don't have to get any extras on the side. I was paranoid about swallowing my Omeprazole capsules so I open them up and empty them into my yogurt. -
Ah yes ... So Greek yogurt is in, but not quite scrambled eggs. Soon enough. :-) How's it going? What specifically are you eating? Hope all is well!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Greek yogurt and scrambled eggs come to mind as things I had pretty soon after surgery. Don't rush it as your stomach may not be ready for much past a liquid stage.

Late June Sleeve Buddies?
Maggie143 replied to Maggie143's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I promise it will pass. So many people are saying the same thing. I had mood swings early on and they went quickly. I hope they do for you too. Now is the time to focus on the positive. We are through most of the hard part and by winter we will be eating like human beings again and thinner too! Think lovely thoughts. xo I haven't had the mood swings but I'm dreading them...I'm 51 and menopausal, so I'm sure mine will be doozies! I've been feeling good, I've advanced myself to some foods that aren't on my diet yet, but just doing full liquids was killing me. I've had some refried Beans (HEAVEN!!), and yesterday I had a bite or 2 of chicken salad my husband was eating. As long as I go slow, take small bites and chew well, everything is fine. On the down side, I took my allergy meds a couple of nights ago right before bed, and not thinking, threw down about 8 oz of Water in a few big gulps. OMG. The pain was horrific, and it all came right back up. I have been a much more careful sipper since then I'm thinner, too, down 16 as of today. That's so encouraging for me, I didn't have to do any pre-op diet so my surgery weight was my highest weight. Losing 16 has been amazing, I truly feel lighter already. Hoping today is another good day...we're going to buy a new car! And our son comes home today from a weekend back at college with his buddies. Tomorrow will be a challenge, I'm sure, all the BBQs and food, but I'll stick with my oatmeal and know that if I do, that scale will move even more. Happy 4th, everyone! I bought beans for refried bean and black beans for when they give me the thumbs up. I can't wait. I am so sorry about your water experience. Its like mine with the yogurt I had. I couldn't help myself. I'm so tired of not being able to chew. Are you having baby oatmeal or regular oatmeal? Congrats on the new car and have fun with your son. That's the best. Let me know how you do during your events. Someone else just said they showed up late to the party and walked around with a water bottle. I thought that was helpful. Kick butt and Happy 4th to you! -

Not getting enough calories
cindyw41 replied to parsonsholsten3's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Stay on a schedule, pre plan your meals and Snacks. You're probably not feeling hungry so staying on a schedule helps. Set your phone alarm, fit bit alarm or the like as a reminder to eat. Some of my snacks are: Sargento snack sticks, hard boiled eggs, lunch meat and yogurt. Keep anything that is in small portions ready to eat that is low fat, low carb with Protein on hand. What are your protein requirements? Mine is 90-100 My Calorie is min 600 max of 800 and I'm just about 6 months out. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Not getting enough calories
Barry W replied to parsonsholsten3's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
400 cals is nothing. Use Meal Replacement shakes - they should still be low sugar, but will have some healthy fats added to bump up calories. I liked the SlimFast High Protein/Advanced Nutrition shakes - 180 cals each with 1g sugar and 20g of Protein. 3 of those per day plus a piece of fruit would be 640 cals/day. Add a lowfat greek yogurt and you're up around 770 cals/day. If you get full while drinking the shake, drink half at a time and drink the second half an hour later. -
Nothing has made me sick
Afrikanaaa replied to sean72977's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This was me until about month four, and idk if I ate my yogurt to quickly or was just reacting to the Ursodiol or something but I threw up and was sick for days. I'm fine now. Closing in on 6 months. And haven't been sick since. But rejoice in not being sick now but be aware that throwing up and dumping can happen at any time. Listen to your body. -

I try to limit it to one serving a day and always eat it with Protein - e.g. a few berries on my Greek yogurt or some peach slices in a salad along with grilled chicken. I haven't eaten watermelon because of the high sugar content.

Late June Sleeve Buddies?
Maggie143 replied to Maggie143's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The other day I was craving so bad and had my first very serious hunger pains. I went over board and had 5 oz of yogurt I knew I shouldn't have but I couldn't help myself. I still don't feel good. I don't want a single thing to eat or drink and my stomach is sore. I am doing my best just to get my liquids in. My surgery was the 21st. 11 days in and I am so mad at myself. Something is going on with my leg as well. Thought I had a blood clot and went to get an ultrasound. No clot but I'm in pain. Feels like my vein is tearing out of my skin. I am a little miserable after doing so well. Anyone else cheat and what did you do to feel normal again? Also for those people going to 4th of July events - its our first holiday surrounded by social fooding. How will you handle that. I want to hear Tuesday when you get back to normal. -

Urinating Pain (males)
OKCPirate replied to AndyNicks's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@AndyNicks - That is not a complaint I hear about on this forum, but did they do a catheter? I had one with my appendix operation. Hurt like a mother coming out and burned for a while. Long list of things that can cause that type of pain but that's what urologists do. (And remember, the proctologists get you in the end). I agree moving from liquid to Jello and yogurt is great. Congrats, can't wait to hear about your progress. -
Hi all, I'm new to this forum. Found it when looking for support sites/forums. I was just sleeved this past Monday (June 27). Today is the first day I've felt somewhat "normal" again. Able to do light household stuff/moving around. First few days were a bit of a haze. And gas pain! Oh my lord. Just trying to get through that. I've been graduated to yogurts/puddings/soups coffee/tea and believe me after a week of broth broth and Jello this is a god send! One issue I'm having slightly is when I urinate I get slight pain. Anyone know what this is possibly related to or from? Post op issue? My surgeon advised to go to a urologist. Very excited about my new journey. I was a blur blue and emotionless first few days but today My emotional IQ and endorphins kicked in I guess! (Maybe it was the 4 oz coffee w/ half half that did the trick!) lol. Great stories on here and looking forward to reading more success stories. Andy Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

First meal of the day
NewBeginning2016 replied to NewBeginning2016's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@@Bufflehead As part of my post op, I did Clear Liquids for two weeks. Now I'm on full liquids for two weeks. I'm not counting calories or Protein. I'm allowed to have this carnation Breakfast, skim, fat free or 1%milk, sugar free/ low fat pudding, strained low fat Soups, no sugar added low fat yogurt, sugar free Popsicles, sugar free Jello. thinned grits, oatmeal and cream of rice and wheat, in addition to the broth and other stuff from the clear liquid diet. I am allowed to add Protein Powder to my milk and I know it's ok to add it to yogurt. I don't necessarily call it a Protein shake tho lol. It's just adding a scoop of protein powder to get in more protein. So I don't feel like I'm not in compliance. Just happened to add it to this carnation meal of that makes sense lol. I sip Water all day and can eat some Soup, sugar free jello and sugar free Popsicles the rest of the day. Trying to get in more protein where I can add it and have it be bearable to eat too. Happy Fourth from BariatricPal! - July 2016
Alex Brecher posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Hey BariatricPal Members! Happy Independence Day from BariatricPal! It’s a chance to show off your national pride if you tend to be patriotic. Otherwise, it’s a chance for a three-day weekend, some relaxation, and hopefully some celebrations and family time. And, of course, a chance to keep chasing your weight loss surgery goals. As always, we hope to help, so here’s what you’ll find in this newsletter. Independence Day: Celebrate Your Freedom Taking a Look at Those Summer Goals Red, White, and Blue Bariatric food Ideas Hope you love the newsletter and then take advantage of the long weekend and a little down time to logon to the BariatricPal forums to catch up on all the discussions. Thanks for all of your support, and Happy Independence Day! Sincerely, Alex Brecher Founder, BariatricPal Independence Day: Celebrate Your Freedom July 4 celebrates the freedoms we all cherish. Each of us can do what we wish, and that’s not something to be taken lightly. So as you go through these next few days, why not pay a little extra attention to the choices you are making each and every minute, and remember to be grateful that those choices are in your hands? The Freedom to Eat What You Want It may not be what the Founding Fathers had in mind when they signed the Declaration of Independence, but being free includes being free to eat what you want. So what’ll it be for you? pizza, chips, and a soda? Or tuna, yogurt, and strawberries? Nobody but you has the right to decide, so make the decision that would make the Founding Fathers proud – the decision that will make you the strongest and healthiest citizen possible. Land of Opportunity…and Options What’s another great thing about the freedom we have in this country? How about seeing how easy it is to get your hands on delicious, high-Protein foods? At The BariatricPal Store, you can get high-protein, low-carb meals, Snacks, and beverages for every occasion and every time of day. Our low-carb cereals, pastas, protein bars and protein powders, and instant entrees can be yours with the click of a button. The store promises the lowest prices available online, and we back our products with a satisfaction guarantee. Taking a Look at Those Summer Goals Summer has a habit of slipping away. At the beginning, it seems like it will last forever, with the long days stretching out endlessly. Then all of a sudden, the nights get crisp and autumn arrives before you know it. Don’t let your summer goals slip away with the summer! July 4 is a great time to refocus on those goals – or set them, if you haven’t already. So, here are a few steps you can take to be sure you can look back at Summer 2016 as one that did wonders for your health and weight. Remind yourself – or set – your goals. Keep them realistic, measurable, and under your control. There’s no point in setting a goal that depends on factors outside of your control. Examples of possible goals include getting in five servings of fruits and vegetables a day by summer’s end, walking a September 5k, and getting WLS in the fall. Figure out what you need to do to hit your goals. For example, what kind of diet do you need to follow? Do you need to train a certain way if you have a fitness goal? Do you need more information if your goal is to get surgery? Get working! Make any necessary changes to your diet if your goals are related to weight or eating habits. Write out your workout schedule, and stick to it. Make any phone calls to potential surgeons to gather more information about getting weight loss surgery if that’s your end-of-summer goal. Slow and steady effort is one of the biggest tricks to hitting your goals. Be patient and persistent; love yourself, and be confident that you can do it. With renewed focus and daily commitment, your efforts will add up to big things by the end of summer. Red, White, and Blue Bariatric Food Ideas A festive July 4 picnic or cookout can spell trouble if it involves the usual barbecue fare (slaw, burgers, and baked Beans come to mind) along with berry cheesecake, Cookies and cake decorated like the American flag, and brownies (just because they’re American!). You may already know how to handle a traditional barbecue (chicken breast and veggies, anyone?), but as for the red, white, and blue? There must be a better way to celebrate Old Glory than with fat and sugar! Instead of the high-calorie culprits, you can find weight loss surgery-friendly red, white, and blue food options to stay in the holiday spirit and to stay within your calorie goals. When you choose naturally colored foods, you’re almost sure to end up with nutritious, satisfying, and diet-friendly choices that actually are as Starting the Day Red, White, and Blue Get in the mood from the get-go with a bowl of protein oatmeal, whitened up with a swirl of fat-free ricotta cheese or Greek yogurt. Stir in some sliced strawberries and blueberries, and you’re on your way to a fiber and protein-filled day. The amount of sugar and calories in your breakfast doesn’t even compare to the load you’d get from a stack of pancakes with whipped cream and blueberry and strawberry syrup. Red, White, and Blue Cheese Dip Blue cheese contributes both the blue and the white colors, and it’s easy to add the red. Whip up your favorite blue cheese dip and serve it with red bell pepper strips, or, for a bit of a fancy twist, some baked beet chips. For the non-WLS patients at the party, serve some blue corn chips for an even more festive presentation. Red, White, and Blue Skewers If you’re planning to do a little July 4 grilling, keep it healthy while making it patriotic with red, white, and blue skewers. Use cherry tomatoes or red bell peppers, and add blue from eggplant slices. Then take your pick of white options, from button mushrooms or, for some protein, chicken breast or tofu. Drizzle your kebabs with olive oil and seasonings of your choice. Patriotic Dessert to Live For Granted, it may not be as decadent as a frosted cupcake with a candy flag it in, but a fresh fruit salad can do just as much for your patriotism and far more for your longevity. Watermelon, white nectarines, and fresh blueberries can be just the beginning, with plenty more choices like strawberries, grated coconut, and blackberries waiting in the wings. With these ideas for treats and tricks, have a wonderful and safe Independence Day! Thanks for reading the newsletter and continuing to support BariatricPal. We couldn’t do it without you! -

Hey guys i had surgery Fri. 7/1. I'll be going home today hopefully. I did cheat. Although I didn't go crazy, had frozen yogurt on a waffle cone on Wednesday. I also had 2 slices of pizza the night before surgery. Although I had nothing else to eat or drink the whole day Until just before my cutoff time 10pm. Had procedure around 1030 am. There was no issue. No questions about what I ate. My surgery went well. So i wouldn't worry about it too much. Just be very mindful. -

On the plus side I finally popped today so hopefully I'll be a little less uncomfortable.
