Thanks for the response. My guy is on the heavy side, but unfortunately weighs less than me:eek His weight goes up and down. When I first started to look into WLS this past summer, he decided to go on Optifast. He lost 30-40 lbs, and had more to go. He told me afterwards that he went on Optifast to show me that weight can be lost without surgery. As much as I've told him that I have faced the fact that I can't do it alone, he claims it can be done. (He was furious at me when I was considering gastric bypass. But then I met a bandster at a surgeon's open house, and decided that this was the way to go). P.S. My guy has since gained all the lost optifast weight back.

3 1/2 weeks out and weight is yo-yoing
Wheeler5051 replied to Jae2011bandster's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Totally in the same boat as you right now. I am in my third week and I gained back 2 lbs. I have been hitting the gym and I am going to try and not weigh myself until sunday. I was obsessing with the scale and the weight. I don't get a fill until 6/8/11 so I can't wait for a little restriction. I am just so hungry all the time. and working out makes me hungier! Good luck to you though, I know what you are feeling! -
As soon as you have time to breathe! You will go thought all kinds of emotions, but it is all normal. Start reading all the old posts as well as the new ones and you will gain lots of valuable information. Good Luck and keep us posted!

3 1/2 Months Out Some Progress And Some Questions
msaprildawn replied to msaprildawn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Did you find that it helped with your weight loss only weight once a week? I'm scared to do it -
Got banded 4/25/2012 and only lost 30 lbs. Yesterday I went to the doctor's office and got another fill of 1cc. That makes a total of 2cc in my band. Hopefully my weight loss will go up.

Husband not supportive anymore....any advice please?
Startingover! replied to Startingover!'s topic in The Gals' Room
Thank you to all that replied. It's always nice to get another persons opinion. I had my surgery yesterday and it didn't go very well. I had another hernia and slipped band. They were not able to put the band back on. The doc said that I will never be able to have one again. But in about 2 months, once my stomach has healed, we will discuss other options. But in the mean time I am absolutely devestated about losing my band. I cannot gain all the weight back, I am so scared. My husbands response was "Oh well, now you have to lose weight the hard way". Made me feel real good, not. Having the band removed has really got me down. Oh well. What to do now. Thanks Amy -
I have just passed my one year since I got the lap band. I am approaching 140 pounds lost and will be doing my first triathlon soon, after doing several 5k and 10k runs. When I started, I started walking, then to the gym to work on the machines (needed to be careful because of knee problemms). That progressed to longer ellyptical workouts, and then other machines. I then started very slow (and sometimes painful) jogs. I made sure I stayed long and slow to build up tendons, muscles and ligaments and avoudn knee and foot problems. This has progresses from 3 days a week to 6 days a week (with a coach), and training for a series of triathlons. My recommendation for all of you is simple: Make sure that every day you move, have quality workout days, and make sure you get a recovery day every other day, every 3rd or 4th day etc. But more so, start cross training as your fitness allows. Start weights, swimming, bike, etc. Do nto worry about spped or how you look. Get comfortable sports clothes, an ipod or shuffle to listen to music if you like, join a gym, and do not worry about everyone else. Just start on machines you are confortable with and then start working hard, and move out of your comfort zone several times a week. The Couch to 5k is an excellent program as is www.jeffgalloway.com, beginning triathlon pages etc. Go to active.com to read and set goals. A half hour to an hour a day several days a week will make a HUGE difference. Alternate workouts to avoid overuse and mental boredom. GOOD LUCK !

Christy, Welcome to LBT and congratulations on your weight loss so far. Just curious as to what Dr you went to for your band? It sounds like you are doing well after your surgery. Best Wishes for continued weight loss and good health. -
A little over a month out and just dealing with EMOTIONS
nosraep posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My name is Jeannette, and I got the gastric sleeve on 8/21/13. Having some problems with low blood pressure (likely hydration issues) but weight loss is trucking along. I'm a single mother of two small girls, ages 3 & 7. I'm having a hard time with my emotions though, never really realized just how much I depended on food to make me "feel better"--I totally used it as a crutch, was an emotional eater, and am now a big mess. I don't know that I have a big story (or at least one that I can type quick) but basically, was 278, insurance paid for my surgery, and I didn't have to fight that thank God. I did have to do 6 months of the Kaiser protocol with their nutritionist etc. I just decided, especially with the girls that enough was enough--my insides didn't match my outsides--inside was a sexy beast waiting to be free, the outside was a scared fat girl who was punishing herself for a life of poor choices by eating herself to death. I didn't have high blood pressure or diabetes, was generally fat and "healthy". But wow, these emotions are something else. Can't wait to meet folks who have been there and "done that." Thanks for having me! -
Tks everyone, patience i guess is the key factor here and of course getting my first fill and those to come. My doctor didn't give me permission yet to do other excercises except walking. After one month then I can return to weights, etc. Being a self payer and spending over 13,000 for this surgery makes me stay on track for sure with my healthy eating habits. My hubby said hmmmm something got smaller from above lolllll and I do believe just losing there has helped my lower back pain. This past weekend, I spent 7 hours walking back in forth at two malls looking at homecoming dresses with my daughter. I was so HAPPPPPY to say, I never got tired of shopping as I did a month ago with her. I felt so good....

OKAY..... I just had my third fill and i STILL don't notice any difference!! I am getting so frustrated! I have been at a stand still with the weight loss since the first fill and on top of that I have been exercising and I am still not losing. Starting to wonder if I even had the surgery LOL Anybody else going through this????????????????????????? :wink2:

Really? Just when I thought I could get back on track!
general_antiope replied to laurigee's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
This really is a LOT to go through in 2 months. Maybe one way to deal with it is to accept you can't exercise as much as you want, but only focus on the food. Tell people what you do and don't want if they're going to bring food over. If you're good with controlling your portions, control just how much you eat. The Lean Cuisines is a good idea but be careful because the sodium and preservatives in prepackaged foods can hurt your healing process and weight loss process. One thing you might want to try is to cook foods you will eat and freeze them if possible. Roast up a whole chicken before surgery and cut it up into meals you can microwave yourself, for example. At least mix in some natural foods with the prepackaged, is all. After these surgeries you'll feel pretty crappy for a few days and may not want to eat, anyway. Also, your "exercise" can be modified to just be walking up and down steps, or doing 1 load of laundry, or anything around the house that takes energy and doesn't hurt your post-op status. Remember....the "all or nothing" mind set (I have this too) is just a symptom of food addiction. bust out of that mind set. You can still follow band rules, temporarily modified Last thought, if it helps - the more you verbally communicate to people about your needs the better you are setting yourself up for success. Your husband, your family, don't sabotage you. You are in control. They can't force you off your band diet...if you think their food will tempt you, tell them you don't want it. If they bring it, threaten to throw it out, lol. Fight for yourself!! -
Encouragement - Low BMIs pls share
Kalipso2 replied to stef123633's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i had a BMI of 35 and i was banded 04/21/08 weighing in at 213 pounds with a height of 5'-4". i was on a 2 week liquid diet and didn't really lose much weight. after my surgery i lost 14 pounds. after my first fill i gained 2 pounds back immediately. i just feel so hungry all the time... worse than i felt before my first fill. so i'm going for fill #2 this weekend. i lost those 2 pounds on top of 4 more so i'm down 19 pounds in approximately 45 days. its still going to be a struggle even though we have low BMI's... maybe even harder. don't get discouraged. you're just entering Bandster Hell when you have the surgery and don't lose much weight. you may not lose much at all until after a couple of fills. stay strong! -
Until you reach your goal weight and stop losing, yes, it's likely you'll continue to need fills as your stomach shrinks. I've gone a couple months between fills, I'd have gone longer if I hadn't had surgery (not band related) requiring my band be emptied and re-filled.

Hi there, While this site can be very helpful at times, it can also be very discouraging at others. Unfortunately, our bodies are not one size fits all regarding weight loss. I myself have only lost 63 pounds in 14 months and have been discouraged for a long time. The only thing you can do is get fills on a regular basis and keep up with the exercise. It can be very frustrating when you read all of the rapid weight loss success stories on here only to struggle with weight loss yourself. Best advice I can give is do your best and try not to compare your weight loss to others because I know from experience how frustrating it can be. Take care, Shannon -
16 days pre-op and no ready for liquid diet
TheGamer replied to TxBritt's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I did a little over two weeks on a liquid pre-op. My first few days were terrible. In fact, I took a day off work just so I could give myself time to adjust. I was doing 5 shakes a day with a small (1/2c) serving of vegetables every day. My first two days I actually allowed myself to eat some steamed salmon in order to help me transition, so I was doing 2 shakes and 2 pieces of fish. Then, on the day I was supposed to start, it was nothing but shakes all day. The first few days were the worst, but then I started dropping weight By the time I was one week pre-op, I was finding that I couldn't eat all they wanted me to. I was having trouble getting in 3 shakes a day (the absolute minimum) because my desire to eat (as well as choke down another shake) were both at an absolute minimum. I was glad for my surgery date to get here. It was hard but the whole time I just kept reminding myself that the only person who would lose if I failed to keep with it would be me. I had to take responsibility. In a lot of ways, the pre-op diet is good training. If we can't make it two weeks, how are we ever going to do a lifetime? -
Idk who will we be after all the weight is gone. I am scared but I know I will be happy at the end

allielee replied to AWD12368's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had the band in 2008 and lost all my weight.. In April 2014 I found out it has eroded.. I had a revision from band to bypass on May 21 2014. It is awesome! I wish I had the bypass first! It is awesome. I have had no problems. I'm at a normal BMI. Feel free to message me if you have any questions. -

Cupcake replied to AWD12368's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi you must work with your surgeon and do whats best for you my surgeon would not even consider the band and very few doctors would or insurance covers it because of complications , I would think about what is best for you and how much weight you want to loose and the success rate of all. I had no complications and very little pain. I would research everything and work with my surgeon to make the best decision, you should ask your surgeon as well as yourself why he choose the bypass over the band. Good luck. -

innwtitdtity replied to AWD12368's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had the band put in in 2008 and I just received my date for bypass next Tuesday. My first surgeon only did bands and my current surgeon only did bypass (at that time). Today, my original surgeon is also doing sleeves and my new surgeon is doing sleeves and bypass. I agree with the others, do research. In 2008 I was afraid of bypass but I think that was because I did not do research. My band slipped 5 times and I rarely ever felt the "full" sensation when eating. I am 48 and my joints really hurt-I need a tool that will hold me accountable and I think the bypass is it. I don't have any other comorbidities but I am afraid I will if I don't get myself together soon. Being over weight sucks but it can be fixed with the right attitude and support team. Good luck in whichever choice you make. -
Little unfill for sure!!!! If you can't even get liquids down in the a.m you are too tight and trust me that is no way to live because I lived with slimming for months because I was so scared to get some taken out because I didn't want to gain weight but when I finally did I was sooooooo relieved! It was the best thing I ever did!

Hi sisterc!! I would like for us to be buddies! How do you feel 2 1/2 months out now? I am so excited!! I have a friend who had her band done 12/07 and she is doing great, I just can't wait to see the changes in myself!! I was 120 lbs when I met my husband, then as we dated, I slowly gained 40 lbs. I was 160 lbs when we got married and was soon pregnant with our first baby, I gained 60, then lost all but 10 lbs when I made the biggest mistake in my entire life!! I got the depo-provera shot (birth control) and gained 30+ pounds and I haven't been under 200 since then. 15 years I have been this way...getting bigger every year. I guess my breaking point came when I realized that I would have to wear a mask every night to sleep, in order to stay alive. That did it!!! I can't wait to throw that thing to the curb!! LOL! Thanks!!!! It's nice to have someone to talk with. Kristi

Hi All- Just a quick update. For the last month, I've had some severe (in my opinion) heartburn, indigestion and reflux. I've also had a couple of pretty severe PB's. I stopped into see my surgeon yesterday just to let them know what's going on. Well, we've decided to take all the fill out and give everything a chance to heal. Immediate relief from the heartburn I was experiencing at the time. The other funny thing I experienced was I was immediately ravenously hungry. Head Hunger?? I don't know. I am going back in on the 31st to see how things feel and refill my band. I know they will sneak back up to my previous fill level. The last fill I had was in October which brought me up to 7cc in the VG band. I know in the back of mind this fill was always a little too tight for me, but I was losing weight and the PB's were few and far between. I also know I've been mired in the old "soft food syndrome" Reality check...I need to have this band. I've encountered a small hiccup but I think for me it's really important to have this indigestion/reflux thing resolved. Now I'm focusing on making good food choices for the next ten days. I was able to avoid the Cinabons in the kitchen at work. Wish me luck Sal
