    Soda..sometimes or NEVER???

My doc says I can drink diet sodas as long as they don't cause too much discomfort (I haven't had a problem with them yet.) He just recommends to pour it over ice and let it sit for 5-10 minutes before drinking. So far so good. Of course he doesn't want me drinking regular sodas, but I have found some diet ones that I like alot...Diet Dr. Pepper, Diet A&W Root Beer, and Diet Sprite (all caffeine free.)

    Need Ideas

How about yogurt? Or some refried Beans? Your body is adjusting that is why the scale suddenly stops. 21 pounds in 10 days is a lot of weight to lose. It'll pick up soon enough. I think a lot of us go through this but eventually it evens out.
  3. I am just past 5 months post op. I find if I eat my protein first that I am full and I do feel the sleeve limit. If you choose to eat carbs first you will be able to eat more. I have to remind myself to be mindful eating. I take this commitment with surgery as a tool and I have to utilize the tool. For me, I do not buy the carbs so they are not in my home. I go to protein first and tell myself if I want a bite or two of something after than it's a very small amount. I rarely get to eat the other stuff because I FOCUS on protein and good carbs/vegetables and fruit first. I have zero carbonation and I still crave it. I simply won't allow myself to go there. Drink your water and this helps to keep you full. As my treat every day I have Bai water as a reward (coconut /pineapple) that is 10 calories for the entire bottle. It works for me.
  4. I am being banded on 2/19. My doc wants 10 days of low/no carb to shrink liver. What should I be doing now to make life easier afterward? Is there anything you guys wish you had done? Is there any item that you would have purchased? I run my own business and need to do any and everything to minimize downtime. I already have my list of about 100 things I want to do once I get my weight down. How long were you out of work? My job requires me to walk, talk, and drive a car, that's about it. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

    GERD before VSG

My Dr recommended the bypass for me too due to Gerd. I still opted for the sleeve because of dumping syndrome with the bypass. I'm 10 days out and happy so far with my decision. I'm on nexium 40mg, as I was prior to surgery. Citric acid bothers me a little more than it did prior. I think I may have to continue on the ppi and once I lose the weight, may be OK without it. I'm happy with my decision to be sleeved! Already down 16 lbs too Forgot to mention I also had a hernia repair which may also help with the Gerd

What Staples Are in Your Pantry?

I keep a good supply of spices and seasonings. Tumeric, garlic powder and cayenne are my most used spices. I also MUST have at least one bottle of sriracha sauce at all times. I either make or buy a jar of garlic paste. Lemon and lime juice are good for adding a touch of brightness to foods. Condiment wise I keep regular mayo, but actually prefer the Just Mayo, pickles, salsa, red chili sauce, Braggs apple cider vinegar, good olive oil and coconut oil. I also have red quinoa, organic black Beans, rolled oats, flax powder and TVP at the ready. In the fridge I always have eggs, finely shredded cheese, FAGE 0% Greek yogurt. I also keep a few cans of Progresso Soups on hand for when I am too lay to make my own. In the freezer, I keep frozen spinach. I wait for Acme's 10 for $10 sales and stock up. Perfect for adding to soups or tossing in a Protein drink. I try to eat as cleanly as possible so I don't buy foods containing red dyes, artificial sugars. Stevia is an allergy trigger so I don't buy anything that contains that. I keep processed foods at the bare minimum. I don't buy any diet foods at all. I'd rather do without or eat less of something than eat a bunch of man made chemicals. I try to cook from scratch and do a weekly food prep on Sunday's.

    I am miserable

Sorry you are feeling so bad.. I know you will feel better... the first couple of days for me were very tough. Day 10 was definitely a turning point for me and I've read it is for others also. I am now 5 weeks out and can't notice the band, my incisions, etc. Just keep sipping on liquids, that will help!! Take care and let us know how you are feeling tomorrow. I am sure you will feel a little better. The day after the surgery was the worst for me.

    I am miserable

Keep looking ahead to your goal. It may seem far... but it really is not. I was on Morphine for 1 day. I went on Vicodin the next day. And by the third day I used liquid Tyenol. I did have occasional mild pain when I tried to sleep on my side or stomach or when I would sit/stand up. It took a couple weeks for this to change. If you are experiencing sharp pains for extended time, say longer than a couple of hours, then you need to speak to your doctor. Mild to Moderate pain is common. Use a pain scale to describe your pain to your doctor. Say 1 being a little pain and 10 being extreme pain. For example, my pain feels like 7/10. It's important to remember that after surgery you are going to need time to recover. Everybody recovers at different rates. Nobody has the exact same experience. You know your body better than anybody else... if you feel like something is wrong, then do not hesitate to call your doctor.

    I am miserable

Hang in there Suz1!!! I was the same way and was in awful pain, my chest hurt so bad I though I was gonna die. LOL I am only 2 weeks out and can laugh about it. I know the las thing you want to do is probably walk, but get up and go outside and walk, even if it's 10 minutes slow. It WILL help. Also, do try to get off the pain meds as soon as you can. They were tearing up my stomach and keeping me queasy so I couldn't get anything down the first few days. I kicked the pain med and my stomach felt better and the nausea went away. It really does get better with each day. I can't wait to see you back posting and feeling way better. That was kind of irresponsible of your Dr not to prep you before hand so you knew what you would have to do. You should mention this to him at your follow up so maybe he'll consider this for future patients. I would not have like that either. Hang in there...get up and walk. It will get better!!!
  11. to get a surgery date after your insurance approval? Just wondering what the differences were. I'm afraid its gonna take a long time to get a surgery date because my surgeon is the head of the department and his appointments were booking into april just for preop. The scheduler made an appointment for me because i work at the hospital and they try to get us through the process quickly she said. I'll see for sure in 10 days that's when i have my preop

    How Much Did You Lose?

I also have never had a fill. November 6 I wil have been banded 1 year. I reached my goal of 145 in 7 months. But I continued to loose another 10 and then my weight lose just stopped. I started out at 215 so I have lost 80 lbs. My weight fluctuates from 130 to 135. Feel great. Love my lap band with plication. Good luck to everyone on this site.
  13. I did nothing to break it. I actually expected it cause it was my third week and there’s always the infamous three week stall. I just rode it out. i lost 22 lbs. from my highest in 3 weeks prior to my surgery date (includes 2 week liquid diet) I lost 19 lbs. from surgery day. I have not gone to gym yet, plan on starting tomorrow. I know the scale will jump a bit due to working out as well
  14. I was sleeved 5/10 and I’ve lost 25 lbs since surgery. But the last week? Nada. No gain, but no loss either. I’m just wondering how you guys are doing weight loss/stall wise.

  16. I had surgery on July 6th. I had no problem maintaining the liquid diet before or after surgery, but now that I am starting to eat some solids, I find that I eat more than I should and I end up miserable. Within 15 minutes of eating, I cannot even streatch out enough to get comfortable. Last night I ate about 8-10 small bites of talipa at a restaurant and I thought I would burst. I've done the same thing 4 or 5 times. When will I figure out the right amount my stomach can hold??? I haven't thrown up because I've eaten too much. I've just made myself miserable.

    Loss of enegry

3 months whew!!! I am only 2 weeks out I can't imagine another 10 weeks of this. I try to get enough sleep at night but I have to take naps. I understood the first few days because it was fresh maybe I am rushing. I might need to learn how to chill

    Am I stupid..hmmm

My post-op paperwork mentions sipping every 10 minutes to get in your daily Fluid requirement but it also lists (during phase 1 & 2) that one should not consume more than 2 oz during a 15 minute period. It lists this twice. This is why I was asking if drinking more than 2 oz would cause issues with my new stomach.

    September People

I'm usually a really tough girl... Piercings... A tattoo! I was so worried about the drain. Looking at it made me nauseous. I was afraid I would start heaving or pass out..lol Wasn't bad at all! There was more inside than what I thought. I kinda heard a slurp sound and only felt it for a couple of seconds. Just a weird feeling, not bad! I had some discomfort later on where the tube is on the inside(not where it goes in....further in.) It does make you feel a bit normal afterwards. Jess...Surgiversary 9/19/12

Things to ask at the pre-op appt

This is a really good idea. I had mine on Tuesday also, and I brought along a whole sack of meds (sad, huh?) and asked which I needed to crush or cut. I was surprised that he said most of them were small enough to take whole. My problem is, I have to take 10 pills in the morning and 12 at night, so I will be spending a looooonnnng time swallowing pills. But, that's one of the big reasons I'm being banded -- to get healthy enough to get off a lot of these meds!!!

    i cried today!!!

Wow, Mommyof4 that is great news you can fit in a size 8. You go girl. My Big Day 09/28/10 weight 240
  22. NtvTxn

    i cried today!!!

Congrats Mommyof4 - I'm right there with you!! I had surgery a couple of days after you did. A size 8 has been my goal all along, not really a certain weight. I just bought an only slightly snug pair of white capris two days ago for next spring. I can't imagine that I'll be any smaller than an 8!! My size 10's are 'big' after a day and I need to wash them, but at age 51, I think the 8 is too tight.....ten years ago, I'd have worn them NOW!!! I am having so much fun buying clothes. I hated shopping before, it's been years since I enjoyed buying clothes for myself. I'm sure you feel the same!!! I've given away 7 trash bags full of clothes!! I can't wear anything from 'before'. It is so strange, but a good strange. It's still hard to get use to not going to the "womens" dept. Anyway.....have fun and again, congratulations on the itty bitty size!!!!
  23. Hi, I was banded in Jan 19th, 2009. I was doing really good and lost 71lbs by my bandiversary, but I got sick. The weight lifting and exercising i was doing tightened my band by itself to the point I couldn't even get liquids down. In Jan this year my dr. unfilled my band so that we could start readjusting it. My life got complicated and I never went back in for the readjustment in Feb. I had noticed that some of my weight has came back on, so I made an appt to see my dr asap. I went Thursday 08/12/10 to get my fill. I found out i had put back on 41lbs of the 70 that i lost. I don't know how I let myself go backwards so much. Right now my dr has my band tightened so i can only get down my shakes, but I am already feeling like hope is lost. Has anyone gone through this? :cursing:

    Post op with kids

My baby was 10 months old when I had surgery. My husband works out of town and is only home on the weekends. I was very lucky, my sister is a teacher and was out for the summer. She kept the baby for a week then I had a teenage niece come stay with me for 4 weeks. I wasn't suppose to lift for 8 weeks. But 5 was all I got I just made sure to use my abdominal binder for extra support and to remind me to be careful. It all worked out ok. Just be careful and use proper body mechanics.
