Told to stop losing??
Tracyringo replied to NYJenn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wasn't told to stop losing but was told that BMI for bariatrics was different from people who didn't have the surgery because of the excess skin, so maybe that is why ? Our stats are about the same I am 5 6 and 165. Size 10 and med tops -
July 2019 Surgery Siblings Post-Op
alex76 replied to Mom_of_Chaos's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 9 days post-op bypass. Yesterday I had my 1 week appt and I'm down 23 lbs [emoji4] I haven't been this weight in about 10 years. I'm already very excited that I went through with it! I'm mostly meeting liquid and protien goals, walking my 10k steps/ day, and dr cleared me to ride my beach cruiser on flat trails. Hi Revision buddies! Just a bit of backstory: I had a lapband placed back in fall of 2007, so almost 12 years ago. Unfortunately, I have always struggled with my band when it had fluid in it (vomited frequently, inability to eat most proteins, GERD, could not drink anything that wasn't warm or at minimum room temperature.) My band and I officially "broke up" in 2015. All of the difficulties I had been struggling with had gotten so bad that I had developed acute gastritis, and esophageal spasms due to the GERD and persistent vomiting, which resulted in me having to have all of the fluid removed. While the vomiting every time I ate and esophageal spams stopped, the GERD remained and the last 60 pounds I had managed to keep off after my initial loss, rapidly returned. So here we are in 2019, through an unfortunate incident my husband had earlier in the year, our deductible and out of pocket maximum have been met for the year. The window of opportunity for me to finally end 12 years of GERD and struggle with this band is finally open. I found a surgeon I really am confident in and have had an EGD to check for Barret's and see what kind of shape my stomach was in. I was lucky in that my hernia had not returned and I didn't have any ulcers, but he did notice that even with no fluid in my band, that it seems tight, I'm not really sure what that means, but it would explain why I still struggle with most proteins. At my last appointment, we reviewed my EGD and he was sending the letter to the insurance company. Because my revision would be due to band complications, my insurance doesn't require the 6 months of dieting, psyh visit, etc, just a letter from the surgeon showing medical necessity for the revision. Since I have a history of GERD, we have decided that RnY is the best option. The paperwork was probably sent in sometime after July 3rd, my appointment was late afternoon on the 2nd and I can't imagine that they would be able to get the letter done and submitted the same day. And now I wait. UGH! It's the worst. I don't have any idea how long it should take. I've read the boards and for some people, it's taken as little as a single day for approval. and some waited for weeks only to be denied. It's maddening!! Thanks for the vent! TX2NC

On a scale of sloths, how do you feel today?

I'm a 10! Move over, Bo Derek! (All you young 'uns can google it!) -
Had the sleeve procedure 7/3/19. I’ve been vegetarian over 15 years, moving from vegan to vegetarian a few times. Vegan is much better! I find dairy causes a lot of inflammation and so I had to kick the cheese, which I loved. I like the substitutes. Even nutritional yeast can give that cheesy flavor I like.

HELP! Still can’t eat and constantly nauseous
Frustr8 replied to Kim36UK's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hi it's Frustr8, at the worst mine was maybe 2.5, they have gotten me on several occasions got me dilated to 9 with the endoscopy balloon, but next time They have gone down I still was 2.5- 3, so I don't stay open. I have now had 13 endoscopies lifetime, I joke that I could almost do my own. Now the last one, I was told the jejunem was now fully "patent," that's Medicalese for open, be simpler if they would use Real People language, wouldn't it? But they didn't say how the stoma was, only that they were able to inflate the endo balloon enough to get on through. It now has been 10 months and one week since surgery, pardon me for a mini- whine but I did expect to be eating everything I wanted that would be good for me , albeit small portions. The Good Times should be Rolling by now, but I do feel slightly like the bus keeps running back and forth over me. I do wish I would finish being repaired, if not Please Admit I am a Gastrointestinal Cripple, stop giving me hope if it isn't justified. I guess I can spend. the remainder of life on liquids and pureed if necessary, but by all that is HOLY, would someone please be HONEST with ME! -
Scheduled for Sleeve but thinking about Bypass instead?
MeowAMR posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Tomorrow I see my surgeon for my last visit before surgery, which will be 10 days later. Originally I chose the sleeve because I felt it was the better option for me. But now I'm scared I'm making the wrong choice. I'm scared to develop GERD. I don't have GERD now, but sometimes I do get reflux maybe once every two week or so seems like when I eat meats. I've had GERD bad when I was pregnant. To the point I was constantly throwing up all the time because of all the acid in my throat which cause it to bleed. I had to take Prilosec a majority of my pregnancy. I don't know if I'm over thinking it and I'll likely be fine. The first time I seen my surgeon he seen my enrollment paperwork and I had mentioned the occasional reflux so when he seen me he told me that the sleeve might cause the reflux to worsen. But if worst case and meds don't help he could do a bypass... which I don't want to get the sleeve then end up needing the bypass. UGH! What would you guys do?!?!?! Chance it and go with the sleeve or just do the bypass? -

Deena - Did you have surgery in 2019 or 2018. Asking as you will likely get a better response if you find a 2019 thread or post separately as most of us have moved on from this thread. -
how often did you feel buyers remorse having the surgery

my first week was the worst!! day 10 I felt normal, and it gradually gets better and better -
I craved salad like nobody's biz! But I waited until 10 weeks out to have it!!!

I eat more or less the same during the week as I do on the weekends. I just get less sleep during the week. (Roughly 6 hours a night on weeknights vs 8-10 on the weekend)

All is well! I have been able to keep down several soups (non chunky) and protein shakes and fluids. No pain anymore. I have my 2 week post op appt on Monday. I am currently down 19 lbs since surgery. I am at a two day stall, so I told myself I will not look at the scale again until Monday and am only going to weigh myself once a week. I hear the stall is normal, but ya'll know how fun it is seeing the lbs come off and then when it suddenly stops it sucks. Non-scale victory. I put on jean shorts easily that i wasnt even able to get up over my hips at the beginning of summer! YAY

What was your moment?
KatieMc replied to TattooedSeaStar's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Last time I thought about it, you needed a BMI of 40 and I was "only" 38. Also, the lap band was all the rage and I didn't like the sound of that. Fast Forward about 10 years and I was struggling as a member of TOPS (Taking Off Pounds Sensibly - just accountability and support, you do your own diet), and one of the group members, who was 80lbs more than me, announced that she was getting the gastric bypass and I thought "good for her". My mother, also a member with just a 20-lb post-menopausal weight issue, asked if I'd ever considered it. I thought about my 28-year struggle, how I'd lose 15 and gain 20, lose 30 and gain 40, etc...and thought of those adages, "If you keep doing what you've always done, you'll keep getting what you always got" and "Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result". Well I didn't see the point in waiting until I was 300+ lbs, and that's where I was heading...plus my 49th birthday was just 2 weeks away...I was very clear in my choice. In the 10-week interim between the decision and the surgery, there were countless reinforcement moments that I was doing the right thing. My 5yo niece pointing at an old picture of me at 160 and saying she wanted me to look like that. A 9hr flight to London on British Airways, notorious for their narrow seats. Having a nasty drunk homelessman in England shout "Hey you, Fat C***!" to my face. Walking a whole mile out of necessity for the first time in years and wishing melodramatically for the sweet embrace of death (in my defense, the walk was very up-hilly). Getting my third round of cortisone injections in my knees and finding they weren't doing a great job anymore. -
OK guys maybe I’m just pessimistic (I stress maybe) but am I the only one who has found this surgery to be a complete B*TCH?!

It's so interesting how people are different. @KarenLR75, I have Tramadol for a bad back and without it, I might have had to quit my (desk) job. I take 100 mg with 10 mg of Cyclobenzaprine. -
I have had my surgery in mid April 2019 and I am 55 pounds (or 25kg) down.
