FWIW, I hate the elliptical. If I make three minutes on the elliptical its a banner day! Find something you like. Turns out, I like to fence. (As in, en garde.) I love it. I fence 5 hours a week now. Plus do weights and what not in the gym. Find what you like. Then do it.

healthy stuff won't go down!
Boo Boo Kitty replied to abeaher's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have been there. There are many many many things good for you that you can eat. I would NOT eat whatever goes down, it can cause bad habits. Try canned chicken breast, it is much like tuna fish and usually very soft. Tofu is great as well if you like it! Please don't just eat whatever will go down. You aren't dieting, you are eating healthy, there is a difference. If you eat junk you are hurting yourself by making habits you are trying to break. I find that a week or two after a fill I begin to feel better. Eat more slowly, and blend things if need be. See your Dr if you don't feel better soon, maybe you are too tight! Good Luck! -

So I have just stepped over the border into onederland!! Took a little longer than I thought it would, and the last stall felt like forever! I still have almost 20 pounds to lose to reach the goal weight I set pre-op...180...I figure that's reasonable for my 5'8" larger frame. I haven't been under 200 in over 20 years! *happy dance*

Sleeved 1/24...how am I doing?
k8bwalsh replied to jbcone's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Wow! Can't believe you are going back to work so fast!!! My doctor wants me to take 3 weeks off (& I'm hoping he'll extend it to 4, haha!) I was sleeved 1/26 and really can't imagine going back to work so soon. I'm still exhausted and need naps through out the day, but am not on pain meds anymore. Glad you are doing so great!! -
if you're not feeling satisfied and hungry between meals, it sounds very much like you need a fill, even if only a small one, especially since you haven't had one yet since surgery. i'm trying to remember when i had my first fill (going back 2.5 years and it's hard to remember heh) and i believe it was about eight weeks after surgery

Still Pre-Op Going for Job Interview Thursday
Stacy160 replied to imawhodat's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
NOOOO!!! If they know ahead of time that they're going to have to work around you taking time off (even if it's just a week), I can just about bet that'll kill your chances, especially with so many people competing for the same jobs these days. Later on when you need to ask for the time, you can tell them whatever you want, from the whole truth to nothing at all. Good luck with the interview! -
Angela...Welcome.. Thanks for joining us. I think everyone is excited to have you there with us. Angie that is great...you are going to look so different when we see you in a couple of weeks.

You are just about to go on solid foods. My doctor has us on "soft foods" the last three weeks. That includes things like cottage cheese and fish. I would absolutely steer clear of any breads, pastas, rice. But if there are fish dishes you can get, you can probably have those. Especially with some kind of sauce to help soften it. Don't touch any fruit with a skin (like grapes) or any pulpy fruits...that could be bad. Really, just judge the consistency of stuff and be sensible. You are so close to being on solids that if you see something you want I imagine you could have it if you are careful. To be quite honest, I followed my doctor's orders to the LETTER about the 30 days before solids. When I went in to get my fill and I told them I had just started solid foods on day 31 they were SHOCKED. They said MOST people don't follow it to the letter.

I have never had a problem with reflux until I got a fill that was a little tight. After a week I went and had an unfill and the reflux was gone.

Hey guys. I am about 7 weeks post-OP and everything had been going very well until Thursday evening. I choose to wait an extra month before getting my first fill because I was going out if state for a reunion. I ate something that disagreed with me. I didn't eat too much or too fast, I think it was just some bad fruit or something. Anyway, that evening I got sick (of course was too far away from nausea meds) and vomited from below the band and ejected everything. Since then I've been scaling back to liquids but my stomach where I presume the band is, feels sore after eating and I feel a bit more gurgle and gassy with some nausea related to that. I have my first fill apt on the 30th but I'm wondering if I should go in earlier. I know a one-vomit occasion doesn't usually cause slippage but because my surgery was so recent and it was a full vomit if there might be a risk...

I'm 6 weeks post op and now allowed to try new foods. If I try something that doesn't bother me at the time, can it cause nausea the next day? I thought if it doesn't make you sick right away you should be able to tolerate. Im nauseated today after eating chicken Caesar salad yesterday for lunch. Any ideas?

Any time you have any symptoms that last longer than 2 weeks that does not resolve with going on liquids, if you've been irritated with food being stuck, should be examined by your lap band surgeon. Classic signs of band slippage or pouch dilation are, new onset reflux and coughing especially at night, with stuff coming back up. And painful eating, and food intolerance issues. Sometimes, if you've had a very bad stuck episode, it does not mean slippage, sometimes going on liquids a bit to see if things resolve will help, but again...slippage symptoms will not let up until you get some saline removed. Chest pains (where the lap band pouch is located) not associated with heart issues, and painful eating, frequent vomiting and stomach pain and nausea..

You just saw him three weeks ago and he didn't say anything about you only losing five pounds in a YEAR? You need to talk to him about things. Something's out of sync. Good luck! Dave

I had Dr. Davidson and things were pretty easy. I did have to wait a long time for the process. When I started, Capital Blue Cross required a 6 month diet, so I had to do that. It was completely ridiculous, like I haven't been dieting for most of my life. The insurance requirements may have changed, but I needed lab tests, a psych eval, and I also had to go to 2 of their support group meetings. After all that was done, they submitted the insurance claim and then waited for approval. That took a couple of weeks. Then it took about 3 weeks until the actual surgery. One of the good things about this clinic is that they don't require a pre-op liquid diet. You do need to do liquids after the surgery, but I wasn't hungry at all and it really wasn't bad.

healthy stuff won't go down!
VegasGrace replied to abeaher's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Don't stress over it. Eat what you can tolerate. You have the band so don't kill yourself trying to diet. There was a time for about a month that I could not eat much...and I tried so desperately to eat eggs, carrots, chicken...even chicken salad, turkey...even mushed.... I tried to eat healthy. But it wouldn't go down. I was so desperate for food that I ate Doritos. They went down. Another time I was hungry, I reached for peanut M&Ms my daughter had...they went down. So, I lived off them for a few weeks. Drinking milk for Protein. That time passed and that chicken salad was delicious! So, do what you gotta do to get food down. In the big picture it's not that bad of a thing. But always talk to your doctor. -
I called the doctor's office today because it hurts when I breathe and burp and hurts really bad to swallow anything besides mushies. They told me to come in. They didn't really seem too concerned. Just told me to take the diet back a step and give myself more time to heal. But it has been 3 weeks! You'd think I could eat SOMETHING by now. Any suggestions or comments? Oh yeah, I lost 3 more pounds! I need to change my signature

I'm 51 and hope to be sleeved in the next month or two
Inner Surfer Girl replied to kat27641's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi Karen, Welcome! I was sleeved a year ago this month and have lost over 200 pounds from my highest weight. I have about another 200 pounds to go but am much more confident that I can get there than I was before surgery. It is fairly simple if not necessarily easy to do well. Pre-op, I weaned myself off of carbonation and caffeine. My suggestions for success: Do everything your team asks you to do in and out of the hospital. Follow your program. Track your food. Make sure you get in all of your Protein, Make sure you get in AT LEAST 64 oz of Fluid. (You won't be able to do this immediately after surgery but it is important that you do your best. The sooner you can get in all of your protein and fluid, the sooner you will feel better, Avoid starches, added sugars (especially high fructose corn syrup), and fried foods. Take your Vitamins and supplements as directed. Exercise. And, learn to embrace the inevitable stalls. Keep us posted on how you are doing. -
You know I feel the same way you do. I didn't realize it until just lately, that people are more helpful, smiling, hold the door open also. I must have been in my own world, never the notice how people were towards me. I didn't care before what people thought of me. I always dressed nice, did my hair and wore make-up. But noe I have started to notice a difference in people. I still need to loose 100 pounds to reach my goal. I'm now after one year haveing some problems with my band, Thursday I had to have my band unfilled, my band has slipped a little and need to wait four weeks, then recheck my band before going foward again. I don't have any great advice, just look foward and keep up the good work. :hand::biggrin::wink2:

Hi all, New here I got surgery around 1 year and 3 months ago. Lost 59 pounds. Starting weight was 240. Current weight was 180 I gained 4 pounds and have been stalled for 3 months. It’s been a rough three months especially with this weight gain I’ve felt so unmotivated and was hoping joining this forum would help get me back on track. Hoping to break the stall and just feel motivated again. Thanks !

Depends on how you are feeling and your doctor. I was walking from day 1. Doing light 5lb hand weights after week 1 and back in the pool doing Water aerobics by week 3. I had no pain/discomfort post op. If my incisions had scabbed over sooner I would have been back to water aerobics after week 2. I was 50 when I had surgery. I'm 51 now. I have been overweight for most of my adult life. You have youth on your side. I would start working out at 3 weeks. Just make note of how your body feels and adjust accordingly.

I'm sorry what I meant to say was every doctors office does things differently. I wish they would just schedule it already. My back doctor makes my appointments when I have procedures and then gets the approval. They schedule like a month sometimes 3 weeks out. I'm getting worried that I will have to wait until next year and that may present a problem. I have already met my deductible and out of pocket so everything is covered at 100%! This is just not a great time for me to have to wait!!! Best wishes! Dotty Cole

I hear ya. I've been stalled for a month now and it's driving me crazy! Hang in there and I will too.
