I don't know what your phase 2 diet is, as post op diets and progressions vary all over the map, but things like tuna salad and flakey fish were on our initial diet out of the hospital, so it is unlikely to have done any harm if you aren't feeling anything bad going on. We had a lot of freedom to move between liquids, mushies and soft things at will that first month, with the general rule being to try things one at a time to test for tolerance and if something didn't settle right, then skip that for a couple weeks and try it again. Some programs, on the other hand, are very cookie cutter and hold everyone back to the lowest common denominator so that no one has a "bad" experience, other than being on a liquid diet a lot longer than necessary for them. If you aren't feeling bad, I wouldn't bother calling, but I would 'fess up to the doc when you see them next, let them know that you goofed and didn't feel bad, and didn't do it again. This is feedback that they can use, as often they don't really know how fast they can progress their diets - I have seen some come through here saying that their doc advanced them ahead of the published schedule, and when asked why, they were told that they had found patients cheating on the diet and not suffering from it, so they advanced the progression, and the guidebook will be updated next time they print some.

69 yrs old and unsure..
sprukop0924 replied to Young 69 yrs's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm 62 and had sleeve surgery 3.5 mos ago. My BMI was over 40. I am already down 55 lbs, 2-3 sizes smaller and feeling fabulous. I've had very little discomfort with the surgery and eat whatever I want - albeit in much smaller quantities. I consume on average 900-1100 calories per day. Happy to answer any other questions you might have. I have no regrets other than wishing I had had the surgery sooner! -
Constipation
summerseeker replied to Watchjulshrink's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can honestly say this is the one of the worst things I went through in the first 6 weeks. I tried everything and 14 days later still nothing. TMI alert - I put on a rubber glove and went in. The relief was wonderful. It happened once more then I have been ok ever since. -
As @catwoman7 said, this is very common. You may need something stronger than the traditional treatments as it’s been a week. Because constipation becomes a bit of a battle while losing. I tried to keep on top of my BMs to avoid the discomfort/pain when things finally got moving if it went too many days. I’d take a stool softener if I hadn’t passed anything after three days. Add some non swelling soluble fibre to your shakes or soups to help. ((I used Benefibre.) All the best.

it's pretty common to take up to a week for the first BM post-surgery - there's not much in there.

Get ready to blossom
Sunnyer replied to IrishKatieKat's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
That is great. You look good. And 79 pounds is a lot. Well done! I hope I will be able to get a result this visible. I have lost 22 pounds in two and a half week, but I don't really see a big difference yet. Tonight I met some cousins and had to participate in a group photo. My cousin sent me the photo and I'm still fat. I don't look any smaller. Hopefully though, I will some day. -
I was supposed to start vitamin supplements this week, but I have such a hard time taking my blood pressure meds that I don't want to add any meds. Also, I wanted to see how puréed food agreed with me, without the effect of additional pills. So far, it's been going ok. I guess I will have to start taking supplements next week. Not excited about taking more pills, since my current meds make me gag and sometimes vomit.

September surgery buddies!!
tx2az replied to Slwhurst's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thursday Sept 1st for me. There are a lot of different dr requirement, isn't there? Mine is 2 weeks of protein shakes, 3 oz lean protein and 2 cups non starchy veggies per day. Day before surgery only protein drinks and nothing not even water after midnight. Good luck, it's getting close! -

How painful is gastric sleeve post-op?
RaisnHL replied to LaLaLand's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I’m 2.5 weeks post op, and most days I can’t even tell that I just had surgery. So despite my rough start, there is a light at the end of it all. 😉 Best of luck! -
Good morning from bed, next to my sweet pibble mix (who finally got her fill of cuddles)! Yesterday went really well. I had to set timers and plan carefully, but I hit both my protein and water target. I’m so-so on the protein shake taste, but I really like the puréed soups I got (3 flavors). I lost 2 pounds in the last day, so I’m nearly back down to my weight on Monday morning before surgery (I had a lot of water retention… still a little puffy but getting there). Tomorrow I may hit a low for the year, then it’s all down from there. :)

Congratulations! I'm 1 week out from surgery and still struggling to get protein. These darn protein shakes I loved so much make me gag now.

Who experienced heartburn or GERD after gastric sleeve?
LookingForward22 replied to 3catnight's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had sleeve and a hernia repair. I also had mild reflux symptoms since Nov 2020 that was being treated with meds 2x a day. I asked my surgeon why sleeve, since I had reflux prior - why not bypass. She felt my reflux, being relatively recent and mild, would be addressed by my hernia repair. She explained her reasons for suggesting sleeve over bypass for me, all which made sense with her explanation so I went with her recommendation. I’m less than 2 weeks out but so far I’m very happy with my decision. -
Totally messed up on liquid diet post op - help
Tomo replied to rtbh155's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would call your surgeon. It's only been about a week since you had surgery. Even soft foods are dangerous, let alone meat. Just let him/her know. Unfortunately, I do know someone who caused a leak from eating so soon after surgery. She didn't have ESG though, but VSG. It may be more safe for ESG to slip up early. Stay safe. -
Totally messed up on liquid diet post op - help
rtbh155 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Alright friends, I failed to prepare, so I was preparing to fail, and need some guidance/help. I went to a wedding today about a 4 hour drive (in the sticks), and thought I was prepared by bringing a premixed protein shake and a small container of soup. I am about a week post op (ESG), so on a full liquid diet. I left both in my car while I went to the ceremony, social time and cocktail hour, planning to sneak away at various times to have a sip. Time flew by, much socializing occurred, and before I knew it, the soup had spoiled and the protein shake was also undrinkable. At that point, I was absolutely starving and within an hour (once dinner was served), I was dizzy and shaking, even with sips of water. I was worried about my well-being since I had to drive home later in the dark, so I had a few bites of soft sweet potato and tender meat, very very well chewed. I felt less lightheaded and made it back home safely, but feel truly terrible and worried that I messed up my stitches/sutures. Can anyone provide any support? Any idea if that was enough to mess me up? I have been doing so well and am still motivated to stay on track, but I am anxious. My tummy aches a little but it has been aching after basically everything I “eat” except water. Thank you. -
Men are so frustrating!!!!
I♡BypassedMyPhatAss♡ replied to SleeveToBypass2023's topic in Rants & Raves
I'm trying to understand the situation... I recall some time back you said that your husband didn't want you to lose weight because he likes bigger women. So is it possible that he is becoming slack on housework (purposefully) and this is his way of attempting to sabotage your success or at least throw road blocks in your path to success? He is becoming lazier since you had surgery and are losing weight. I may be wrong, but that's what I feel like might be going on. I have a cousin that had weight loss surgery when her marriage was on the rocks, her ex was former military and had major ptsd and other issues, and to make a long story short, the stress and emotional/mental abuse that he inflicted upon her negatively effected her weight loss. Now she's almost 3 years out and never made it to goal weight. -
Surgery tomorrow morning
SpartanMaker replied to valeriejbrock9's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
This will be my 15th surgery I think? (Obviously not weight loss surgery, but lots and lots of other body parts have needed repair. 😁) It's super normal to be feeling anxious right now. I was worried about every one, and I'm not a worrier. Heck, I'm worried right now about my bypass and I still have 3 and a half weeks to go! -

September surgery buddies!!
Slwhurst replied to Slwhurst's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So when is your surgery date? Must be really soon, exciting! Good luck with the FMLA. Hopefully its just being extra slow. I start my 2 week diet a week from monday, so I'm still just in waiting mode and a cheerleader for those of you going first. Sept is almost here finally! Welcome! It's exciting that sept is finally almost here. I'm excited too but I will probably be more nervous the closer it gets. I'm ready though! Oh be assured I had to buy a bag of shake mix… I Got vanilla though because they said you can mix any sugar free drink mix in or extracts like peppermint and even the powdered peanut butter! So I thought vanilla would be the most versatile… -
I haven't tried mine yet but I'm glad to hear that they are good. I have bought a little bit of everything to get ready lol. I start my liquid diet a week from monday, so getting close.

That will certainly help - yay! Any good flavors you think will be yummy? My office only gave me 4 shakes total, so for cost effectiveness I'm jealous but for options I'm glad I got to chose my own. This is exactly what I did. I went from the high salt nicotine to zero nicotine and had zero symptoms of giving up nicotine. It was like magic. It took three weeks for me to test nicotine and cotinine free on the Amazon strip tests, and at 4 weeks, I also tested negative on the blood test ordered by the surgeon's office.

Good morning from sunny SoCal! I'm now 4 days post-op. Yesterday was the first day the surgeon wanted me on 'cloudy liquids' (pureed soups + protein supplements), and I did really well with that. I measured out the soup and shakes and made them last almost a half hour. The Baritastic app says I got 61g of protein (close to target... very good for a first day on shakes though, eh?) and 483 calories. Movement was really good as well. I have a repeating timer that goes off every 30m to remind me to get up and move for a couple mins. Doesn't feel like much at the time, but by the end of the day, 4m/h times 16h is just over an hour of total movement. I feel good when I do it. One day when I lose more weight and my knee and back pain go down, I'll be able to go on significant walks again, but baby steps. My low weight of the year was 369.9 the morning before surgery, and I've been in the 370s since then because I'm puffy and gassy still, but I trust I'll see the 360s again soon. So many vitamins and new BP meds to coordinate that I ordered a cute pill organizer from Amazon that will be here next week. Right now they bottles are all in a single bag, so it's a lot of rifling through to find things.
