    New Convert of the Sleeved

And another baddie you didn't state but true also. BLINDNESS, when my diabetic Daddy died along with the other less lovely qualities he would have been Legally Blind within a few months. Wish he could has sought WLS , I would still have him and my also diabetic Mama instead of just memories. YOU CANT HUG MEMORIES like you can a Real Person. But at the time, neither one was offered the options, do wish they were both here to watch their only baby try to be successful , I'm now 73, but even if things still are not all perfect n I AM SO MUCH BETTER THAN before surgery, and 10 months pist- surgery I WILL BE A SUCCESS! Sorry, I am sniffling a little, just wish I could share this experience with them instead of having pictures to hold clise!
  2. 6/24/19 was my rny surgery date. The first 2 weeks was emotionally hard for me. Thinking of all the things I can’t have. Not being able to go out to eat like I used to. Just feeling sorry for myself. But since I have been advanced to the next stage of my post op diet I feel much better physically and emotionally. I have eaten some things I am not supposed to. Even though it’s just a little nibble I feel so bad and get upset with myself. I feel like I’m not losing as fast as others but in reality I think I am doing ok. My clothes don’t fit me anymore and I have way more energy. I’m am starting to accept my new life with my new pouch. It’s been a roller coaster of emotions in a short time but I’m glad I went through with it.

    new to post surgery

Hi, I had mine 7/8/19. I am on clear liquids and shakes till Monday. Then I am only able to have full liquids like puddings and cream soups no lumps for a week, then only highly puréed foods. Sounds like it is too thick. Can you purée it with something to make it thinner like baby food consistency? It is so crazy how all the surgeons follow different diets.

    July surgery buddy

Woohoo! In addition to a 'July surgery sibling', we are 'same day siblings'! Are you on your pre-op diet yet? Seems that diff dr's vary between wanting their patients to start 3 weeks before surgery date, some are 2 weeks...some are 10 days...and I've heard of a very very few that required no preop diet.

  6. 1998: Went to Sweden for a Gastric Band (Disaster... but I did not know until....) Woke up with a 10 inch scar on my stomach. What? Why? Never got a real answer 1999: Band was to be maintained in Washington State. The Drs said there was something wrong. I felt a lot of discomfort and could not eat anything. 2000: Band removed (I think) and RNY performed. Medical notes mention the band was wrapped up and twisted in scar tissue. I only read that years later. 2000 to 2010: I did not follow any instructions, rarely took my vitamins, never monitored vitamins. I was an idiot. Ended up with Osteoporosis and needed iron transfusions. Actually had to go for a blood transfusion in 2009. Oh... and a fractured pelvis. 2010 - 2019: Worked on learning to eat better, take better care of myself. Went to see a therapist about my issues and made some small and big changes. Began an off and on relationship with the gym, kayaking, paddle boarding. Became healthier, reversed the osteoporosis and brought my iron up to good levels. I struggle with my weight. Up and down, 209 high, 175 low. Back and forth. Driving me insane. Too many clothes in my closet in three different sizes. A friend, an 82 year old woman, told me about Dr. Lopez in Guadalajara and how he completed a revision for her. She finally lost that final 50 pounds. She looks fantastic and feels great. I met two other people who had Gastric Sleeve surgeries with Dr. Lopez. I made an appointment and now I am scheduled for a revision. It will cost around $6,500 dollars. I am really working hard in scraping the money up together. Gave up going out and doing anything the last three months and will whip out the charge card (4% extra). I am excited and I have been working hard, reading books, watching videos, recording everything I eat. Testing out protein shakes and working on smaller portions. I will have had 6 weeks of this before I begin the 2 week pre surgical diet. I have been working out four days a week in the gym. I am strong and happy. I feel beautiful, having once weighed much, much more than I do. I have no pain, and no physical or medical problems such a High BP or Diabetes. I just want to settle on ONE SIZE and feel a little more comfortable on my bike. Oh.... and get off those stupid pills for Acid Reflux. I swear, I am going to do that and Dr. Lopez will help me. I am crossing my fingers. So, I am 62 years old and I weigh 199.999999 pounds (Ha, just made it under 200 this morning). I hope to be at my goal weight of 145 by this time next year. Heck, I will settle for more. Just want to fit in to my "skinny" wardrobe (175lbs) and give away the rest. My closet broke this year!
  7. On June 12, 2019 I went to my last requirements of my Phyic Evaluation and the tests came out really good. Then once they turn in my paperwork into the surgeon, then the insurance office staff could see if my insurance will approve my GastricSleeve. Yet, the office of the mental health doctor has not sent it in. I have spent time between the surgeon and their office calling back and forward. It was about a few weeks I called and they said it had been sent already. Then called surgeon they still had not received it. So I called back in a few days and they answered me faster then I had time to ask the question. So I called another time and the answer was it was lost and they will send it right away. Last time I called I have them the fax number, then they said they are behind so may take awhile. How long does it really take to fax or even email results? I am thinking about this next week going and to see if I can just pick up my files and I will take it to the Surgeon's office. Now that they have played around it maybe September before surgery.
  8. Hey guys, first post. I had a terrible first day after surgery because my pulse was too low to give me pain meds. Second day I felt pretty good and never had to take any of my pain meds at home. Felt really good, drank really well. Went back to work (retail) after 5 days. Everything had been mostly great until I started eating real food again the past couple weeks. I'm not eating much, but I am suddenly having issues drinking. Iced tea with Splenda seems to hurt now as does PLAIN ICE WATER. It actually seems to hurt the most of anything. At the moment my best drinks are sugar free Gatorade, but it still hurts more now. Anyone have experience with this? I have my 8 week checkup in 10 days but think it's odd that I feel worse with my liquids now than I did the first 5 weeks. I'm losing well, but I am struggling with the liquids now. I would say I feel slightly nauseous all day long, every day, now. Anyway, thanks for any help anyone can offer. Just looking for possibilities. Sent from my SM-G935P using BariatricPal mobile app

The no sugar version are the ones I'm eating. They are 10 calories...in the end it seems that most liver shrink diets are largely based on or at some point...being on mostly liquids...and under 800 calories (maybe more for some ppl) as it is the extreme low calories that I've heard ultimately help to shrink the liver (anyone with a greater understanding, feel free to let us know more) I'm unsure if the 'things that are being consumed' play a larger role in the shrinking of said liver or not. My dr doesn't even have the 'clear liquids phase'..for the 2 days prior to operation. I have the Popsicle brand as well and sometimes i alternate, but the Outshine ones taste so much better. My pre-op plan allows for a protein bar 2 x's a day up until the day before surgery which I am not doing. I figure the Outshine bars have to be a better 'closer to full liquids' choice than those bars even though that is NOT a requirement of my pre-op diet. I do understand that for other people, they all have diff pre-op diets. When in doubt, ask your dr's office - mine knows I eat the Outshine popsicles

    June 2019 Surgery Siblings!

I have my 6 week post op 7/18. It's been rough. I had several weeks of only losing 1 or 2 pounds a week. My medical team wants me losing 10-15 pounds a month. My official weigh in day is Monday but I stepped on the scale today and was down 3 pounds since Monday and 3 pounds a week is what my team says I should be losing so hopefully my plateau is over. I could have moved to regular foods this week but I tried some regular grilled chicken on Monday and threw up so am staying on soft foods a little longer and going to try again Monday. Shredded chicken is fine just not cubes of grilled chicken. I am down 22 pounds since my surgery on 6/3 and I lost 33 pounds in the 6 months pre op so 55 pounds down total. I've gone from size 26 jeans to 22s and 3x/4x tops to 2x/3x tops. I've yoyo dieted between a size 22 and a 26 many times over the years so have a lot of clothes. I kept losing the same 60 pounds over and over so this doesn't feel too big yet as I've dieted to this size before. I can't wait to get down to an 18-20 so I can buy new things.

On a scale of sloths, how do you feel today?

Gotta say that I'm feeling a 10 in me. Happy with the scale and getting a new puppy today.

    2008 bandsters

I had mine removed last year and over the last 5 years, I slowly gained back that is why I'm having the sleeve the end of the month. I had the initial band that would only hold 4cc and could be filled to a max of 2cc so finding the sweet spot was impossible. A few months after having mine they went to a 10 cc band. I worked for me when it worked I lost about 120 pounds. Now I'm looking at a new journey and another hopefully successful one.

    It's Getting Real!

Oh my gosh....YESSSSSSS! I have both 'kinds' too. I'm like 'I'm splurging...I'll walk back and forth more to burn those dang 10 calorie popsicles".....they taste so much better!!

    It's Getting Real!

That's exactly what I have, both kinds you mentioned. I loooove the Outshine ones so much. It's weird how those 10 extra calories over the Popsicle brand makes the Outshine ones so much better!
  16. Hello! I was a very active user last year, but due to personal matters, I was unable to have my surgery last year and fell into a depression because of it. Thankfully, I'm back and with amazing news! My surgery is scheduled in 10 days; July 22, 2019. I can't express my joy to anyone in the way I feel it, so I knew I could turn to this forum. It's a scary excitement to have, but altogether good. I genuinely am so happy I can have my surgery soon and get my life on track. I know all bodies are summer bodies, all shapes and sizes are beautiful... but I'm 21 with diabetes and this surgery is just.. a second chance. I know how lucky I am, and I'm so happy things are finally working my way
  17. I’m getting sleeved Monday check in to hospital at 10:30 surgery at 12. Feeling good ready to start this new phase of my life. Best of luck to us week 3’s.

    Thick spit? (TMI)

Slimes, foamies... yep it will pass, just eat really slow, chew really well, eat 3 bites ad wait 10 minutes to see if you really need bite 4. Some food stages just have to wait awhile as well - lettuce caused trouble for nearly a year....just would not stay down... it's good now.
  20. I pooped Day 5 after surgery. I walked every day to get rid of gas and pain. I mostly walked around my yard for 10 minutes every hour. I'm on Day 9 and I'm almost starting to feel normal again. It gets better:) Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

I LOVE those popsicles! I have 10 boxes in my freezer right now! They're on sale this week so I'll be going back for more! My mother says my freezer looks like the store display! LOL!

    slow loss?

I'm very slow losing. I lost the majority of my weight with the sleeve (during the time I was in hospital with a leak) and then only about 55 lbs since RNY. I have figured out that I don't lose weight during my cycle - I also have PCOS - my hormones are just crazy now since I'm going through perimenopause. I just try to keep calm and figure that I will lose some during the month, but right now it's averaging at about 10 lbs a month I guess.

    Told to stop losing??

I wasn't told to stop losing but was told that BMI for bariatrics was different from people who didn't have the surgery because of the excess skin, so maybe that is why ? Our stats are about the same I am 5 6 and 165. Size 10 and med tops
