    teen sleeve and excess skin?

Your 18 you should be fine I lost 100 at age 15/16 and did fine,no did however have breast implants at age 22 bc I was always ashamed of them, bc of my teen weight lose they where not as full as all my friends. That's one of the best choices (other then my sleeve at age 28 ) i ever made for myself
  3. I am 11 weeks out. Had surgery May 20th. I'm starting to feel like myself again. The process has gone pretty well for me too. Shortly after surgery, I went thru a phase where I couldn't eat or drink anything without major stomach pains and nausea. My doc prescribed some meds to calm the acid in my stomach and I haven't had any problems since. I worry about stretching out my pouch too. The last thing I want is to waste this opportunity or gain the weight back! I just try to follow the rules and hope for the best. I'm finally starting to get my energy back so I need to really start exercising more.

    HATERS, HATERS, HATERS

Well Diva, I am happy for you. You must look great! Wish I had curves. It's sad that we live in such a competitive environment. I love the "plixies" label and will wear proudly, although I guess I am a "banded plixie.". I've told only my family, close friends and a few co-workers because I have this dread of being judged for "taking the easy way out" and then being judged if I don't lose the weight or gain some back. I have told people I know will be happy for me and supportive. I was worried about telling two of my sisters and my parents, but luckily they have been very supportive, I think because they have seen me struggle so long with my weight and increasing health problems because of it.

  6. Congrats. Glad you're feeling well. I'm sure the dog is fine and just think of all the extra energy you'll have to play with him once the weight starts falling off. Walk as much as you can and do some arm stretches and exercises. It will help with the gas pains.

Your welcome gailkindo You will do just great.. it's all so scary before than poof it's all over with and your saying to yourself what was I so afraid. Look at the number of people on this blog. We all have gone through the same thing and come out better for it. Unfortunately we were all given the short end of the stick... our weight issues. However we all have also made firm decisions to fight the challenges we have been given. It's a new life and a new you... go forth and be healthy !
  9. At this point you are soooo early in with your sleeve, I would get rid of the scale. Seriously. What is it going to tell you? You are still healing. Your body is going to be retaining fluids ... letting them go ... retaining again ... it is in a very confused state. If you get on tomorrow and it is higher, what does that mean? That you actually gained fat? REALLY? How many calories are you eating in a day ... and you think you are going to gain fat? Sorry ... I don't think so. What does it mean if you drop a pound or two? Did you really lose fat? Are those two pounds going to come back again? What if they do? Do you see my point here? You could spin your head around this so bad you won't know which way is up. And for what good? Think about it ... you just had 85% of your stomach removed. Do yourself a favor and focus on doing the right thing with your eating and drinking. The scale WILL take care of itself.

Weight control oatmeal packets have 7g protein and if made with milk it's 11g. Only 160 calories and 200 with milk, plus I think 5 or 6g of fiber. Worth it for me. They're yummy too. I get sick of eggs in the morning you know:)
  12. I had RNY gastric bypass in august 2020. It’s true what they say, that wls is just a tool and you’re still going to have to work hard to get to your goals! But I’m super surprised that my hunger levels don’t seem to have changed very much. I feel hungry every couple hours, when I was hoping to be one of those people who didn’t think about food very often. My weight loss has slowed because of this, so I’m wondering if anyone else experienced this and has any tips. Thanks!

    Help Out Of Stall

Congratulations! You have reached "The Dreaded Week-3 Stall". It's perfectly normal and just about all of us have suffered through it. You're not crazy, and your doctor didn't screw up. In fact, you might not lose any weight for two weeks or more. But don't worry -- after that, the weight will start falling off if you stick to your program. If you're interested, here's a good article that explains why it happens and why we all have to go through it. Hang in there. Pretty soon it'll be in the rear-view mirror and you'll be dropping weight like crazy!

    Spilling the beans

I have only told 2 people in office at this point and like you there is a group of us who work closely and some of us eat together in the cafeteria everyday. The pre-op diet hasn't been bad, I have just been saying I am on a doctor supervised plan, with high Protein and I am telling them how much I lose each week. I haven't given them the opportunity to speculate about it. My surgery was originally going to be the 11th but the doctor wanted me to continue the pre-op for a few more weeks. The challenge for me is going to be returning to work while in week two full liquids. I can always bring yogurt or cream Soups or broth and they may not question it along with my already standard Protein shakes. I know it must be hard in such a small office but if they see you doing stuff pre-op with protein shakes and whatnot and you just come out and say you are on a diet supervised from your doctor, they may not think anything of it. I too said I was going on vacation and when I come back and continue to lose weight perhaps they won't be surprised since they knew I was trying and was losing beforehand. Your situation is definitely more complex because of the roommate. Stay positive and don't let it worry you. And if they do find out or you do decide to tell them, their opinion or comments don't matter. All that matters is you and you should be comfortable with your decision to do this. Don't let anyone make you feel bad about it.
  15. Hello everyone! I just recently found this site and what great information!! I contemplated band vs sleeve last year but then had to have 2 foot surgeries, so weight loss was put on the back burner. Here I am now, plus about 10 lbs, thinking about it again. I've already had a consult with one dr and going to another next week. I keep doubting myself though for some reason, maybe I can try to lose weight on my own (even though I've tried tons of times over the last 12 years!), maybe this is too drastic, etc. Obviously if we could all lose weight on our own, we would. So I'm thinking I'm just second guessing myself now? I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder about a year ago and now with the meds I'm on, my weight just keeps going up and no matter what do, I can't lose weight! Anyone have words of wisdom or encouragement? Of course I'm scared of the surgery itself and the pain and post op issues. But I'm hoping that I can get in the right frame of mind to convince myself that this is the right thing to do and stop second guessing myself! Be happy with my decision & look forward to a healthier life. Can someone help me get there? Is this a normal feeling at this stage? Thank you so much in advance!!

Scared? Why am I doubting myself?

You're doubting yourself because after years of failed attempts, this is what we do. We doubt, or in MY case, obsess about it working 'this time'. It will, when 85% of your tummy is removed, unless you make an effort at failing, you will lose weight!!! I promise you. All of us worry, I had surgery June 2010, I've been maintaining for over two years now and I STILL worry. For me, this has been easy. I had no health issues and was healthy, so I'm sure that helped, but pain was no big deal. After being discharge I only took pain meds before bed and only for ten days. I took liquid Tylenol and used a heating pad during the day!! Turning over in bed hurt, so the pain medication took the edge off. I can tell you, what did hurt is a sneeze, cough or if someone makes you laugh, that lasts for a week or so, but it is nothing really. I was excited from the moment I woke up in recovery. A new adventure, I've loved every minute of it. I'd read in a forum that a neat thing to do is go buy a disposable camera.....have someone take a picture of you the night before surgery or the morning of....then take a picture every month on your 'date' for a year. After you take the one on your 1 yr anniversary, go have the camera developed. There is NOTHING like laying out those pictures, side by side and seeing the transformation. It is truly amazing, do it!!! I too lost weight, I lost the same 50 lbs three times in 30 years and lesser amounts more times than I can remember. I did everything from Weight Watchers to Phen/Fen. I can LOSE weight, that is not the problem, in later years, not as easily though. It is keeping it off that is practically impossible. Once you go off the diet, then you gain. Now I am NOT on a diet. I feel like I eat like a naturally thin person. I'm still obsessed with food, with making good choices. I eat sweets and other things, but rather than over doing it, I have a normal piece of cake and it is not what I do real often. Life is good, it's a wild ride, and oh-so-fun!!!!

    Another surgery?

@wnusrt1 hey bud the answer to your question is yes!!! the most common reason for conversion is terrible/unbearable heartburn😣 you didn't mention if you have that problem? not pointing fingers, but have you totally been eating correctly? Portions esp. the sleeve only works with you, if you work with it. (saying this, and below with TLC) if you are getting the GB, thinking you might loose weight and keep it off/problem solved? not necessarily true you will loose the weight initially- but If you don't change your eating habits, you might gain again. eeeek Try and give the sleeve another chance - you might not have that much restriction now, but if you follow the rules of protein, water etc. you can't help but loose weight.☺️ do a liquid diet/protein shakes for awhile, this will give you a jump start in loosing more weight gradually go to soft - etc. i emphasize watch your portion sizes. i know my portion sizes were through the roof before sleeve (7+ years ago) lets meet for drinks, info - conversation, i'm buying, water of course😁 good luck☺️ kathy

I geel like I can eat too much...opinions

I remember Bob Greene talking about plateauing. He said right before a big weight loss sometimes the body holds on to water. In his next breath he said if that doesn't happen, then the exercise may need to be ramped up.

I geel like I can eat too much...opinions

My stomach held around the same as yours at six weeks. I had very little inflammation so my stomach was much closer to its "mature" size than many other sleevers. Also, I had a rather long stomach so it's just automatically going to be able to hold more since there's nothing they can do about the length. As for you not losing/gaining.. that's very normal.. you may even have an entire month with no loss.. stalls happen. They suck but it's all part of the process.
  20. I was banded on May 28th 2013. Started my pre op on May 15th @ 258lbs. I had severe sleep apnea. I weigh 203 today and feel like a new man. Somebody told me yesterday that I should stop losing weight I'm getting too skinny. I haven't heard that in a long time. This procedure is a lifesaver.
  21. I'm so worried about this!! Congrats on the 27lb weight loss that is awesome!! Hang in there , it will pass!!!!

    Disturbing Email

I don't know if this applies to the person who emailed you - at the numerous slimming clubs that I have been to there was always one type of person. This person always said I can't loose weight no matter what I do, it's my metabolism, it's God's fault etc etc. When they stuck to the diet for the first week and lost several pounds it was a miracle. The second week they lost more pounds and suddenly their husband liked them fat and didn't want them to come anymore. What I'm getting at is some people simply won't make the commitment because they haven't got it in them. I don't know but maybe this person isn't sticking to the rules. Please don't let them distract from having a new and fantastic life.

    weight loss stall...help

Hello, FYI if you go to the search bar and type in weight loss stalls, click on the down arrow and choose forum under topic, over 1000 forum results will show up. A lot have good information and share suggestions. Everyone is different. Remember, it takes 3-4 months for you body to adjust to major surgery. Your body is still healing. That being said, this is not a miracle cure, but a tool. There will be times when the scale will not reflect weight loss, however, you body is losing inches. Be patient! Good luck in your journey.

    How about NO vitamins?!

Some people absorb vitamins, minerals and other nutrients more optimally than others. Simply put, I need my supplements because I don't absorb them well from food. Due to hypothyroidism, I'm prone to multiple deficiencies (zinc, vitamins A, B12 and D, iron, etc). I've been deficient in thiamine (vitamin B1) 1 year post-op and required an injection, so I supplement with a vitamin B complex in addition to whatever else I take. I also had deficiencies in vitamins A and D prior to weight loss surgery, so I take those. I'm black. Vitamin D deficiency runs rampant in the black community. Our people need triple the sun exposure time to produce enough vitamin D naturally due to darker skin pigmentation, so I'll supplement with it for life. Blacks also have magnesium deficiency more often than those from other racial/ethnic backgrounds. The moral of the story is that some of us need supplements to avoid nutritional deficiencies.
