Yay! Under 250 for the first time in...?
ouroborous posted a topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Well, the NSV's are fast and furious, but scale victories are nice too. I'd been in a long stall, and I'm starting to believe it was because I was eating these stupid popsicles at 80 calories a pop. I've cut them out and the weight has gone back to a nice steady pound or so per week. More importantly, I'm finally under 250 pounds! This is a big deal for a guy who's been over 300 lbs for at least 15 years. I haven't been under 250 lbs since high school. 250 lbs is also an important number for me for two reasons: it marks 80 lbs lost (yay!) and there are a LOT of activities that I always wanted to do "some day" (skydiving...) that have an "absolute weight limit" of 250 lbs. So now I can finally get back to trying all those "I'd like to try them some day" activities that I've always been too fat to try! I'm excited On a side note, I went to my girlfriend's Xmas party last week, and her boss, who hasn't seen me for a year, couldn't stop talking about how great I looked. And he wasn't the only one. It's weird, I'm still trying to wrap my mind around the fact that I'm not the same giant blimp of a man that I used to be! -
today I had a great moment....I had an NSV on the scale. How is that possible? Our digital scale didn't weight anything over a certain weight. I hopped on it just for poops and giggles and it worked! There was no error message to make me feel like crap today and there will never be that day again. I havent been able to weight myself on our home scale in 3 years. Not only did I have that amazing NSV I was also down 3 more pounds. Such a great day!!

Congratulations both excellent NSV's.

Well, I have lost 37 lbs. since starting the pre-op diet on 11/8 and was banded on 11/22. Since then, my shirts no longer attach themselves to my stomach. My bra is now on the tightest hook. My inner thighs are gradually beginning to stop rubbing together. My husband can wrap his arms around me again. My Pandora bracelet slides right off of my wrist when it use to be so snug I could barely get one finger under it and it is the largest size. My panties are sagging. My pants legs are dragging the ground because the waist is getting too big. Most of all, I was able to control my eating at a Christmas party last night! I could actually see my plate for once without it being covered on every inch by food. I got one chicken tender and removed the breading, on teaspoon of a sour cream/salsa dip I make (with no chips), a teaspoon full of Ro-Tel dip (with no chips), one deviled egg, and 4 pieces of buffalo popcorn chicken (about the size of a nickel). Oh, and I grazed by the desert table and didn't put one thing on my plate!! So, to anyone who is watching this forum and wondering if Lap Band is right for you, I say go for it! It will be the best thing you have ever done for yourself. You deserve the best treat ever.....a new life!

hard to believe that is what it took for you to buy some new scrubs. I am surprised they stayed on you for so long! I've heard of people walking and their pants fall off of them! That is a great NSV. Thanks for sharing! -

Read a little better buddy, I've posted several things in the WLS part of the forums, from NSV's to helping with questions of other fire and policemen, asking question's about surgeon's giving opinions on my surgeon, etc. etc. so before you go and get all high and mighty learn to read a little better(FWIW I was banded Aug '09 and am down 86 lbs, with about 40 to go). Stay the heck out of the post if you don't like the topics and if I feel like posting predominantly in one area thats my choice and I WILL EXERCISE IT! Are you a forum moderator? If not, keep to yourself. -
So today I went in for my four month post op visit. My bp was 109/73 I have been off my blood pressure pills since September. My latest labs are all good. From the day I first saw him in late July I weighed 208 today I weighed 159! I am beyond happy and the icing on my cake an ultimate NSV my surgeon asked if I would send him a before and after picture on his web site!! My feet still haven't touched the ground.

Those are AMAZING NSV's! It's downright dangerous to have non-stop periods due to the blood loss. It's great that your cycle seems back to normal. And your BP getting back to normal is just as amazing. Congrats.

Congratulations Tiff. What a great NSV!

Sizzilng September Sleevers Monday Check In
juliarh replied to Labrys's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hey all -- checking in on my weigh in day -- thanks to my TOM (that ol' biddy) I lost a grand total of .2 lbs. yep. .2 lbs. I look at it this way, I lost during my TOM -- soo, onward and downward, right? But, I've had some great NSVs -- I'm running now (so that should help weight wise) -- I haven't been able to run in ages -- so I'm very proud of myself. I am in regular size 18s in pants and XLs for shirts (I'm getting desperate because I keep buying and then nothing fits after a month or so) (wish I could go to Goodwill or something but that doesn't exist here in Paraguay) -- anywhoo -- the scale was only gonna cough up a bit, but I'll take the bit! Hope you all had a good week too -
I was at my son's school the other day when a teacher's aide said, "That outfit looks great on you because you are so skinny. You're a runner, aren't you? You exercise a lot, huh?" I sheeply replied, "Yeah, I do exercise." I walk for a half hour an average of 3-4 times a week, so I don't exercise a lot. I couldn't believe she was talking about ME. BTW, I'm not skinny; I have a BMI of 24 which is awesome but definitely not skinny. So now people think I'm a runner? Man, that is awesome.

For years, I've had an elevated resting heart rate (110-125bpm), and even in July when I had my well woman exam, my resting heart rate was around 98. We (myself and my medical professionals) always attributed it to my obesity, and the fact that I do smoke. I had hoped that with my weight loss my heart rate would level off, but it maintained 110-125 bpm up until July when it registered below 100. I was absolutely thrilled, but my PCM was only willing to wait another 6 months before sending me for a cardio work up. After the orthrostatic hypotension diagnosis in March, it really became apparent that my body was still adjusting. I still have bouts of hypotension, and my bp drops to 80/45 occasionally which is downright scary, but I just increase fluids and sodium again, and then I won't have bouts of almost passing out for a couple of weeks. With all that being said, my resting heart rate is down to 82bpm. Yes, it's still HIGH, but for it to drop from the 100's is amazing. I would like to get it down to 70. I'm sure working out is attributing to this improvement, and I'm hoping when I go back for a follow up with my surgeon on the 20th, he'll be pleased with my heart rate. I know that quitting the smokes will definitely help, but we all know my story with kicking that habit. Just thought I would share because NSVs this far out are few and far between.

I was at work the other day, and 2 of the nurses I work with were joking and said that they loved me, but I really needed to get some scrubs that fit me because I was swimming in the ones I was wearing. I knew my scrubs were getting pretty loose, but I have been so overweight for so long that I am afraid to try on new clothes because I worry that they will be too small. When I look in the mirror, I still see the old me. Anyways...and I hope I don't gross anyone out with the next part....the nurse manager of the ICU called me and said there was a patient on the surgical unit who was crashing and they wanted me to go out there and start an IV medication to keep her blood pressure up, stay with her and monitor her until they could get the ICU room cleaned and ready for her...off I went. While I was in her room taking care of her she started to vomit....and it was not pretty..I will avoid the description since I know this will be too much information for some...but I quickly turned her on her side to keep her from choking while I was turning on the suction. Unfortunately when I did that she totally nailed me! All down the front of my pants and my shoes!!! I am usually a quick dodger of all things nasty, but I was so worried that she would choke I was right in the line of fire. When she got transferred to the ICU, I went back to my unit and told my manager that I was leaving to go get some new shoes and uniform. I ran across to Wal-Mart and didn't have a clue what size to get. I had been wearing 3XL before the surgery and 90lbs later was still swimming around in them. As it turned out, I bought an XL!!!!!!!! I don't even remember the last time I wore that size!! I was smiling as I checked out in my barfy pants. That was NSV #1 NSV #2 - I got back to the hospital, ran into the bathroom to change clothes, threw my old scrubs and shoes in the trash and walked back into the ER. EVERYONE who was working freaked out!! They all couldn't stop talking about how good I looked. I do have to admit though, that it made me feel pretty uncomfortable. I am used to being large and in charge lol but not all of this! I had my back to the door of the triage room when one of the night shift girls walked in and she told me that she thought "Who the heck is that?" when she saw me from the back and then when I walked out she was stunned it was me. Feels so good, but a little un-settling at the same time. After Christmas, I am buying all new scrubs and getting rid of the old ones - after all, I will never see those sizes again. Oh, and by the way.. my coworkers from the morning cheered for the lady who barfed on me because she is what finally made me get something that fit me!

I was wearing a pair of hand-me-down jeans, yesterday. they were very loose, and I was tired of pulling them up. We were at Sears, Christmas shopping. I said how about if I pick up a pair of jeans? he said, "You know, I was happy to have to buy you new clothes, but you are getting clothes crazy, now" What a great thing to do, because I am now wearing size 8 Lee jeans! I am down from 22w since Oct.30,2009. I am now. officially smaller than when I had my son 36 years ago.Congratulations to us all, with our NSV!!!

I am so excited, I just got off the phone with my primary care physician. November 2009 I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes, with an A1C of 7.4 ~ which gave me a slap of reality and triggered my weight loss journey. I was banded 10/21 and have lost a total of 62 lbs since 11/09 (30 lbs. post-op)... my latest A1C is 5.6!! He said I no longer have to take medication for Diabetes. :bananajump: This is in edition to my two other nsv's of having to buy all new winter clothes because nothing from last year fits and being able to cross my legs comfortably. This really reassures me that I made the right decision getting my band.
