    Any March 2021 Sleeve Patients?

Mine is March 9. I had two weeks of mostly meat and veggies (yogurt and jello or popsicles for snacks) and now I am on two days of “liquid” which is protein shakes, jello, popsicles and yogurt. I am dreading dinner cause it’s going to be so hard to convince my mind that a shake is enough (although I was fine for breakfast and lunch so I know it’s in my head)

    October Bandsters!!!

Hi all, I am on day 5 of a strict liquid diet (broths, liquids, 4 total servings of protein shakes, yogurt, low fat cream soups). I have been good. I have not cheated althought the opportunties of food being pushed in my face was happening all the time. I have lost about 10 pounds in the time frame. today, I started to feel real lathargic. i don't have a lot energy. I happen to be off of work today. However I have 2 twelve hour shifts coming up in the next two days so i am a little concerned. I also have 3 more 12 hr work shifts before surgery.

    October Bandsters!!!

Mine is October 12 as well, I'm going to start my pre-op diet tomorrow. I did find out though that i am able to eat SF Jello, LF/SF Yogurt and LF/SF Pudding in addition to my 2 shakes and soups for dinner. I told my husband today that I wanted to have my "last meal" tonight.

    October Bandsters!!!

Congratulations! Now you can join us on the October post surgery post. BTW. I had some probiatic yogurt to get the things moving again about 4 days after surgery. One was all it took.

    October Bandsters!!!

Good Luck to everyone tomorrow and the rest of the month! I was banded Tuesday morning at 8am and in recovery by 845am...much quicker than I expected! I ended up staying the night because my heart rate and blood pressure was really low...the surgeon said that it's pretty common though so nothing to worry about. I was released at 10:30 this morning!! Pain level is about a 4 right now...I feel very similar to the way I did when I had my c-section. I'm much more comfortable sitting on the couch than laying in bed. Lots of walking today so no gas pains yet...hopefully they stay away! All in all....everything was much easier than I had expected. I am not at all hungry but have been eating and drinking like they told me to. Cream of Wheat for breakfast...4oz tomato soup and 2 bites of yogurt for lunch, chocolate milk in between lunch and dinner and soup again for supper and 2 bites of jello. Anyone else have trouble sleeping? I'm exhausted but have only slept a total of 6 or 7 hours since Monday night. The hospital bed was horrible but I figured I'd sleep all day when I got home. Slept for 45 minutes and then 1.5 hours again this afternoon and haven't been able to go back to sleep.
  6. My mom always used to make these no-bake peanut butter/chocolate Cookies at home, and they were one of my favorites. I just switched the recipe up a little bit to make it LB friendly. The recipe is half of the "normal" and makes about 16 cookies, feel free to double it. Use no-sugar added cocoa (Hershey's makes it or look for baking cocoa). Also, I used reduced fat Peanut Butter and instead of butter I used Brumblen Brown (spelling?) yogurt butter spread (1/2 the cals of butter). All in all, these are pretty tasty and not terrible for you. Ingredient/Cals/Prot: 24 pckts Truvia/0 /0 1/4 c skim milk/22.5/2 4 tbsp cocoa/80/4 1/4 c PB/760/28 1/4 c yougurt butter/180/0 1 1/2 c oats/450/15 Total/1492.5/49 Per cookie (16): 93 calories and 3 grams of Protein Boil sugar, cocoa, milk, butter and salt for 1 minute. Remove from heat and add peanut butter and oats and vanilla. Use a tablespoon to place dough out on waxed paper. **If you want, you can go ahead and add the PB and the vanilla before you boil it, it doesn't make a lot of difference. Tip: 24 pckts of Truvia = 1 cup of sugar (For those that don't know, Truvia is a zero-calorie natural sweetner derived from the Stevia plant, I like it better that Splenda. Tip 2: Instead of cocoa powder, you could try choco Protein Powder to make these a little more guilt-free.

Hey Paige, Did you mention a smoothie with Peanut Butter, banana and flax oil? What else goes in it? Yogurt? I'm not even sure it was you except for the flax oil part?? Thanks!!!

    Anyone From India?

Neil, 3 months out with a 62 pound loss! That's amazing! Being a vegetarian in America will definitely be much easier than in India. There is a larger variety of Protein options available to you. Natural, low fat cheeses, greek yogurt, low fat milk, powdered Peanut Butter, protein powders, nuts, and soy products. All these items are staples you should have in your house, to provide yourself with daily variety! I'm in California. Good luck to you!

    Labor Day Challenge 2012

Three weeks post op Challenge weight: 203.4 Last week's weight: 199.4 Today's weight: 192.8 (down 6.6 pounds) Goal weight: 180 (down 10.6, 12.8 to go) Starting to each purees and I'm shocked by how little I can eat! But I love having tuna, scrambled eggs, yogurt, and refried beans. Yum! This beats a liquid diet any day. To get off the rest, more liquids, more protein, and stick to the exercise. Doing well on tasks but need more fluids and protein to really meet this goal.

    May Bandsters!

It's crazy how every doctor differs. I wasn't allowed shredded meats, fruits or veggies at the puréed stage. I can start having that as of tomorrow. I bought strawberry yogurt, turkey patties, garlic tilapia, deli meat, sweet potato, canned green beans, oatmeal, diced peaches (lite syrup) and some berries. I may try chili too. The binder my nutritionist gave me says I can have up to 1 cup in a sitting, once on soft foods. I also verified that w/ her in person. But considering i had a miserable evening after doing close to 3/4 cup of beans, im gonna take it 1/4 cup at a time. I REALLY do not want to overeat and hurt myself. Lala - With puréed, everything has to be applesauce consistency in a blender. Soft foods are things that are moist, or mashed, and easy to chew down.
  11. Hi Bright, It's really hard to kick a sweets habit cold-turkey, so I'd suggest you not even try. My poison of choice in the sweets department is ice cream--which, thank goodness, is mushy so I didn't have to go without for long. Too much of anything creates cravings for what one is avoiding, I find, so my goal is balance. Protein first doesn't mean I can't have a small dish of frozen yogurt for dessert, if I want it. I'd imagine a WW-type "points" system would work just fine post-band if you assiduously take care to get in all your protein. Remembering that the quantity you can ingest will have been cut in half or so, you'll have to make choices based on nutritional priorities rather than just what your taste buds want at a given moment.

The Prune Yogurt we have in Canada is called "Activa". I'd be surprised if you didn't have it in the U.S. Keep checking. It's yummy!

    February 2007 bandsters!

I haven’t much energy right now, but I wanted to touch base before too much time went by. My surgery was at 8:30am on the 15th, and I came home (to my parent’s house) at 4pm on the 16th. The procedure went well, and I felt really good yesterday except for some very strong pain at the actual port site. Bending over to do ‘anything’ is so painful at the port! I was up & walking around very well by 6:30pm. I even went to the Lap-Band support group that happened to meet last night at the hospital. I crawled into bed at 11pm feeling so encouraged, despite the port pain. This morning at 3am, however, I woke up to pee & felt flu-ish (as if every muscle ached). I could hardly move my legs & chalked it up to sleeping the hospital bed. By 7am, when the nurse woke me to check my vitals, I couldn’t even left my head off the pillow. :sick And I had a slight fever (100.6), too. But my surgeon checked me out & said that flu-like symptoms were often a side effect of anesthesia. I feel like I’ve been hit by a Mac truck, but so be it. I left the hospital with my hubby at 1pm, dropped of my Vicoden Rx, and browsed through a discount store next to the pharmacy while waiting on the prescription. After that we came back to my folks’, I hugged on my babies (who were none the worse for my absence :-P) and took a nap. Now I’m off for my dinner of a protein shake. That is my main diet for the next 2 weeks. My clinic recommends 16-24 oz daily of protein shake made with skim milk, supplemented by plenty of water, and broth, Jell-O, pudding & yogurt for the 1st 2 weeks. Such fun! Well, my shake is gonna separate if I don’t get to it soon, so... Good luck to all of you, too!

    Holy mother of god!

This is actually the first day that I am a tiny bit hungry. I stayed only 1 night in the hospital and have been walking around my neighborhood since Wednesday. I feel good, sore, but good. My dr. Said not to worry about the Protein till Sunday. That has taken a load off. I'm just sipping my decaf diet iced tea ( very weakened). Sunday I will attempt some shake and then the following day yogurt. I am actually excited and nervous about the yogurt, who would have thought. Lol Hang in there. Just keep moving!
  15. I'm 11 days post op and I'm mostly liquid. When does your nutritionist let you move on to something soft? I'm up to two teaspoons of plain yogurt. I'm taking an antibiotic because I've had a fever so to avoid a yeast infection I'm doing yogurt for me 3 "meals" this week. Have you eaten Jello? That gave me the sensation of eating while being on the liquid portion of my plan. I also like Popsicles because it's almost like a bite.

    February 2007 bandsters!

Silry, if it helps, even with the pain and discomfort I'm experiencing, I would still have gone through with it, knowing that it will all be worth it. I'm even thinking that maybe since I didn't have it so easy, like some do, that I'll remember that when I'm struggling to make a better food choice later on. Instead of having ice cream, maybe I'll go for the yogurt, you know?:decision:

Unflavored protein powder might help...I mix it in with creamed soups, applesauce, yogurt, & mashed taters...I usually use 1/2 a serving of it just to keep the foods 'normal'!!!

    Help! I'm Hungry Lol

Yes! I do have plain protein (Unjury). . .haven't decided what to put it on or in yet! Do you have any suggestions? I can have: broth Creamed Soups Blended (chicken, tomato, potato) Protein shakes Yogurt (no fruit) SF jello/pudding 32 or more Water a day Anything I can put in a blender (ie, smoothies)
  19. I love the new look of everything here, I thought I had gone to the wrong website! I decided to modify the two protein shakes a day...I have one in the morning, then at lunch I am having a sandwich with fruit, then dinner is lean meat with yogurt and a veggie and fruit. This is working, I am already down 2 lbs. and this will be the third day. So maybe I can lose some of the 12 lbs. before my next appointment.

    July sleevers please check in..

Hi, Surgery 7/30 Beginning Weight 224 Pre-op 215 Current 198 I'm pleased with the results so far but I wish I could comfortably eat something besides yogurt and the Protein drinks. I tried some fish tonight, tilapia, ate about 2 oz. It feels like the whole portion is sitting in my throat. I'm pretty miserable, really. I'm exhausted all the time and am totally constipated. And I feel like I need an antacid every three hours, when the prescription is for every 12 hours. Sigh. I am praying to feel remotely normal soon. I have so much to do and really, all I want to do is lay around. I haven't left the house in two days for more than 20 minutes. Sorry to complain, I know this is temporary. (God, I hope so!)
  21. Yep still have some pain. Mostly in my back and the incision on my right side. Lots of gas still. Water doesn't go down well but I can get back Protein shakes down and yogurt. I can't wait until I'm all healed up. Good luck everyone.
  22. Convenience is also a thing to consider. For example, Jello makes ready-made sugar free Jello cups and sugar free chocolate pudding cups. I always have these on hand for my chocolate craving that pops up every now and then. I also always keep Sarrgento low fat mozzarella string cheese and lower fat Babybels on hand. I always have Chobani zero sugar Greek yogurt on hand as well. I know you said it makes you gag right now and I went through something similar because i honestly dislike Greek yogurt but I have learned to eat it. I buy multiple flavors to keep it "fresh". I can finally eat fresh fruit and vegetables so I buy a bag of frozen blueberries to add to my yogurt cup. That really helps the yogurt go down smoothly. I also still drink a Premier protein Chocolate Peanut butter ready-made shake every day. That is the only one I can get down without difficulty although the cookies and creme does taste just like Oreos! Maybe try a different brand/flavor of protein shake. I'm 3.5 months post sleeve and just met with my nutritionist. They love protein shakes for us and told me to continue to drink them. I have not had bread, pasta or rice since my surgery 3.5 months ago. That was something I prepared myself for prior to surgery. I will make enough dinner to have it as a leftover for lunch at work the next day. There are so many lower fat/ no sugar options. Use cauliflower rice instead of regular rice. Add salsa to it and you have Spanish rice! Use zoodles or spaghetti squash for pasta substitute. Use a lettuce leaf instead of bread for burgers. Use plain Greek yogurt instead of sour cream. Dip veggies in hummus or ranch dip made with greek yogurt for more protein. I think if you make changes as everyone has suggested you will be successful on your journey. Don't get discouraged because you've already realized you need to change how you eat. That is already a win for you! Good luck, I know you will be ok! We are always here for support!

    Any April 2021 surgeries?!

@BluesLily: None whatsoever. I tried eggs, no problem. Second time, cramps galore. Cottage cheese, first time, crazy pain. Second time ok until half way through. Pain with peaches. Pain with Greek yogurt, but not light yogurt. Fine with Tofu, until halfway through second portion. It’s random and VERY painful.

    November Bandsters!

.Also, just wanted to let everyone know I fell in love with a yogurt smoothie made by Dannon...It is in grocery stores for all of you who dont know...It's 70z., 0 sugar added, I think only 60 calories and 3 or 4 carbs....They are delicious.... I think they are called the lite & Fit. They are great. I buy the assorted pack at Sams Club. They are purple bottles, right?

    November Bandsters!

I use the Kraft "South Beach" bars. Kind of like a flavored Rice Crispie bar. Sam's has a big one (210 calories) in Chocolate Peanut Butter that's pretty good. They also have a smaller one (140 calories) that comes 18 to a box, 12 peanut butter, 6 chocolate. I think the bigger bar has 19 grams of protein. Can't do them right now because of restriction but it's one of my Snacks. Another snack I rediscovered that is high in protein and relatively low in calories is pork rinds. Salty snacks have always been my weakness so it's a nice "cheat" for me. They come in various flavors (salt & vinegar and hot & spicy are my favorites) and give the salt and the crunch my body craves. Of course, 1/2 cup is a serving (*NOT* the whole bag!) and is 80 calories and 9 grams of protein. The flavored rice cakes are a nice treat too that are fairly low in calories although not overly high in protein. Speaking of Sam's Club, they carry a 12-pack of Dannon Light 'N Fit yogurt smoothie. Only 60 calories for 7 ounces with 5 grams of protein. (Wal-Mart, Meijer and Kroger all carry a 4-pack but it's almost 1/2 the cost of the 12-pack at Sam's unless it's on sale.) They're easier to eat than regular yogurt as you don't need the spoon and it has a screw on lid so you can sip at it and put the lid back on. Tom
