  1. I was sleeved just a week ago. Last night I was eating a pudding, and probably a little too fast..LOL. Well I took a big bite and felt like it literally stretched my sleeve a bit. Like I could feel it, kind of a stretchy pain. Now all day today I have a weird pain if I eat or drink anything. It's near my belly button. It's more of a sore overworked muscle feeling than like a sharp pain. Knowing me I probably damaged something!!!

    Thyroid problems

I have been hyperthyroid for about 2 years. I have been in normal range on meds. for over a year. When I got my labs for my 3 month post op checkup my thyroid was off the chart as hyper again. My Thyroid Dr. wants to iodine radiate my thyroid and get rid of it. Does anyone know if this surgery can effect your thyroid? I don't believe it was a coincidence that my thyroid changed just at the time of surgery. My instinct is to tell him to shove it and up my meds and see what happens. What do you all think? Thanks, zippykat--Kathy
  3. You know my struggles in maintenance were a rollercoaster. We never thought I'd get to 160, I passed that and got to goal in 6.5 months which landed me at 148. My body slowed way down once I got to goal. I mean I didn't lose weight for 4-5 weeks, then I'd wake up and be down 3 pounds with no change in my diet. I was actually eating more calories and carbs, and still sporadically lost. I don't have any answers because I struggled with continued loss. My body did finally just stop losing, and now I bounce between 120-125lbs on any given day. Don't be surprised if you wake up one day, and are down a few pounds. I'd say up your calories, carbs, and Protein, and you might see the scale drop again.

  5. I just researched some of the medicine I am still on and the say they cause weight gain. I am 3 weeks post op and now scared to death these meds are going to slow me down in my weight loss journey. My goal is to be off all my meds as the weight comes off but until then is it sabotaging my weight loss? Does anyone else have this concern?
  6. I was losing a pound a day, and then suddenly one week out, I was losing four pounds a day! Three days of that, and I didn't lose anything for three days... this morning I weighed myself after a three day stall, and lost another 3 pounds. I think it is a strange hormone/pms/bowelm chain of events which cannot be considered on a daily basis. Think holistically in the greater scheme of things.

    Am I doing this right?

I forgot to address the calorie part. I would not restrict your calories. Weight loss can in fact slow to a halt if you go into that starvation mode. Eat what feel right, calorie wise. Sometime a little boost of extra (healthy) calories boosts the weight loss. At 9 weeks post op I was eating between 650-900 calories a day, soft, dense protein.
  9. I had my sleeve on July 18th, 2017. I am 9 weeks post op. My highest weight was 222, surgery weight day I weighed in at 210 and I am 190.8. I have been following the diet to a T. My sister who had the sleeve surgery done a few years ago eats cheetos, drinks soda and ate crap food and the weight just FELL off. She started at 225 and is now at 143. For me, yesterday I had a protein shake, two quest bars and a few bites of chicken salad. In total about 750-800 calories. My doctor told me to stay between 800 and 1000 calories but the weight is sloooooooooow to come off. I have read others that are eating between 300-400 calories a day and it's working but my doctor says NO to that as it throws your body into starvation mode. Can y'all tell me your input on this? Should I lower my calories anyway?? I'm feeling very discouraged today and really don't know if I should be eating more or less... Thanks for your help!

    Am I doing this right?

@macaleigh Well, I am no doctor nor am I a nutritionist so please make sure and get advice from them, professionally. However, I can tell you some things from my own personal experience and what I learned over the past year. First of all, from your stats, you have lost 20 lbs in 9 weeks. That IS significant, and completely par for the course. You are moving right along and 20 lbs in less than 2 months is a big loss! As far as your sister goes, without being disrespectful of others choices, I have to say that eating the crap food she is eating raises a lot of questions. Those choices are unhealthy no matter what you weigh. WLS should be a tool for not only weight loss but fitness and general health. Please do yourself a favor and do not look at her choices as a victory. Stick to your plan, a healthier lifestyle, for good. Everyone has their own journey, and I encourage your follow your high protein, healthy foods plan. The weight will continue to drop. In the long run, I can almost guarantee that you will look and feel better than anyone who maintains their diet regularly on junk foods. Best of luck to you and fear not...YOU are on the right path!

    I have a question

Hi All, What do you mean by the term "full liquid"? I am a week post op and was on clear liquids for 2 days and according to my doctor's instructions I am now allowed only pureed food (I thin it with liquid) for the next 3 weeks. Is my pureed food the same as what you refer to as "full liquid"? Thanks.

    What makes you stuck?

I've always had "stuck" issues, since waaaayyy before banding. The same things still cause the problem. I quit eating bread years ago unless it was toasty rather than soft; bagels were particularly a problem and I don't miss them at all because of the misery they caused me. I love peanut butter but it occasionally stuck before and now it sticks every time (I've tried it 3 times), so no more peanut butter:bored: -- I'll miss it but I won't miss getting stuck.

    Surgery Day!

Today is day 2,going on day 3 I'am in a little pain from the surgery but not as much as I expected, I'am having trouble eating certain things I guess its the diet taste but I'am trying to push forward in this process I Thank God for getting me through the surgery and now I'am praying for him to see me through this eternally so you guys that are thinking of getting this surgery make sure you have a strong mind to do so because you will need that!
  14. I was down 54lbs on 5/11. I went from a 2xl in a men's tee to a Large. A size 20 in pants to a 14 275lbs from the day of surgery to 221 at 5'7.
  15. I had my band put in Dec 1, 2009. I lost 15 lbs right after surgery. I have a 10cc band and have had 3 fills so far for a total of 5cc. I have gained back almost all of my post op weight that I had lost and I am starting to get really down on myself. I find that I am "graizing" during the day, not eating a lot of food throughout the day though. HELP, I look at everyone's losses and wish it was me! I feel like a total failure!! Any suggestions or input would be appreciated! Is anyone out there in the same boat ?? Thanks, Marcy

    Not losing weight at all!

I have a bunch of follow up questions: 1. Are you journaling your food? I use SparkPeople.com faithfully, even the "I shouldn't have eaten that" food. Seeing my food and nutritional values tallied up on the screen keeps me aware and honest. 2. What are you eating? Are the carbs piling up? I know I'm eating more than my surgeon recommends and my weight loss slowed down - but it's still coming off, and the carb level is well below what the recommended range is. 3. Are you exercising? It makes a huge difference in how you feel and how the weight rolls off.
  17. My doc said something about the microwave drying things out when something similar happened to me with chicken last week. Of course, that didn't explain the hour and a half of NOPE that day.
  18. Good morning. If you have already had surgery, was there anything you did ahead of time (like during the 6 month weigh ins) to prepare yourself for the surgery? Or, is there something that you wish you had did that you think would have made things easier for you? I ask this because i am wondering, would it be good as I get closer to only have 1 meal per day and drink shakes the other 2 meals to make it easier for the 2 week pre-op liquid diet?

    How Much Water?

I would say that your water intake is based on you body, i am a larger guy so my doctor advised to get at least 100 oz a day. i was getting down around the recommended 60 oz but i had to go back to the hospital for dehydration 3 days after leaving the hospital. i would say get as much as you can. i dont think you can really get " to much" water"
  20. I am 2 1/2 years post op. I lost 100lbs total and I was very happy about it. At about the 2 year mark, my OB Doctor started me on a hormone medication in an attempt to achieve pregnancy. This was unsuccessful, and caused me to gain about 25lbs in a two week period while taking it. The OB said it can be normal to gain weight while taking this, and some of it should go away once I stop. I haven't been taking it for about 3 months now and I have not lost a pound yet. My eating and exercise habits haven't changed at all. I am incredibly frustrated and depressed. I feel like a fool for "messing up" my weight loss journey in an attempt to have a baby that failed anyways. Has anyone had any similar issues that they may have any suggestions for me? I also have PCOS.

    Pureed Stage

Has anyone moved off of the pureed stage sooner than 2 weeks, either by doctor guidance or just because you felt it was the right thing to do? I ask because I'm only taking in about 300 calories and 20 grams of Protein per day. I feel like it would be healthier to move on to soft foods to get the proper nutrition.

    QUESTIONS ABOUT GAS

You are doing great! I could not hit my protein or water targets until about a month after surgery. Keep sipping your fluids, if you have to choose between protein and water, choose the water. Pretty soon you will be able to get it all in, but for now do the best you can. 12 oz every 4 hours is probably 6 oz more than I managed on day 3. Sip, walk, burp, repeat. If you are foaming, take smaller sips and wait longer between sips.
  23. Yes. Bled constantly post op. Went on the pill. Didn't work. Ended up going on provera tablets then getting a sterilisation 4 weeks ago and an ablation on Monday. Sent from my SM-G935F using the BariatricPal App

    Wow!

The doctor had me on 1 protein shake in the morning, for lunch and dinner 3-4 oz. lean protein (chicken, fish, turkey) and 1 serving veggies (from a list). I chose broccoli and carrots because I am very picky! Lots of water, sugar free jello, sugar free popsicles. It actually has not been unbearable.
