Gastric bypass- Toronto Ontario - they wont do a sleeve?
shedo82773 replied to stefanie0804's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I know many people state that the RNY is to invasive for them but...even tho they reroute our pouch etc think about the Sleeve they are removing your stomach like 85 to 90%. Thar is pretty invasive if you ask me. Also if you have GERD the Sleeve tends to make it worse. I do know some have to be revised to the RNY. Also I see that your weight is 245 right, my STATS are: Highest weight 249#'s Surgery weight 232 Current weight 125#'s. I went below my goal weight because of Strictures ( kind of like scar tissue) I got down to 117#'s and both my PCP and my Suregon were worried that I was losing muscle instead of the fat. I managed to gain 8#'s and it is amazing how healthy I feel!! I did get to my goal weight in 6 months and have managed to maintain at 125#'s. Just check out your options. It also depends on your diet if you love carbs sugar etc the RNY gives you restriction and the malobsorbsion too. Which means you don't absorb as many calories. Like I said do your research because noone can decide which is best for you. -
Age, menopausal and under active thyroid
this sucks replied to ovaw8ovathinka's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm looking forward to joining you on the loosing side too! I am 53, also have hypothyroidism/Hashimoto's and had a full hysterectomy in December of 2014. I'm revising from LapBand to VSG-just waiting on insurance approval/surgery date. I'm hoping that VSG will finally give me the opportunity to get to a healthy weight. I was down to 200 and stayed there for almost three years with the LapBand, but since I started experiencing swallowing issues, my weight has increased back to 235. I'm okay with losing slower, I just want to lose. I have an entire wardrobe of smaller sizes that I can't wear anymore and I really liked the way I felt and could move, etc. You know, they say 50 is the new 30:) -
New to the forum from Dallas!

Welcome . I'm 3 weeks post-op band to sleeve revision, had the lap band before that for 8 years. I think the best way to deal with frustrations pre and post is to keep "hanging out" on the forum here. People are really nice & love to answer any questions. One can learn a lot just reading the forums on a daily basis. Best wishes on your journey. ^^ -
Starting to worry
RJC5197 replied to Autumn Riley Arnold's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I too had same issue and grateful for it. I just means we are not as sensitive, and need to measure and eat the right amounts to satisfy, and not eat to the full feeling. Eating to the full feeling can be very painful and not good for the pouch long term if done too often. I had a revision and to this day have never felt "Full" and can eat anything, unlike many others. The WLS is a tool only and we cannot depend on the pouch to control us, just use it the best we can. Good luck in your journey of seeing what works best for you. -
Best Decision I Ever Made.
Travelher replied to nursey10465's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I have mine scheduled on October 4. I'm hoping for a revision to bypass. What my doc said to me is that it depends on the scarring. He said if the scarring is too bad he won't be able to do a bypass because they won't be able to properly close the incision. So I was given 2 options. If the scarring is bad, they will remove and then I'd have to go back later once the scarring reduces or they can do a sleeve in which case they just work around the scar tissue. I've told him to do the sleeve if he can't bypass. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App I'm planning to take, one week and then 1 week working from home. Band to Sleeve people, how was your recovery?
Gerri918 replied to Sai's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had my revision on Monday and this is painful. I finally had gas today but it didn't smell like most others said it would. I chalked that up to the pre diet requirements. I had to take tums and Benefiber during the liquid stage. I'm not hungry but I do have to follow the 4 week diet. I hate the pain. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
I did the revision and the 6 month PreOp is required I had the revision on Monday (9/19) Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I had my followup appt w surgeon yesterday. EGD showed chronic gastritis. They unfilled my band (yay), which hurt because of port area pain. The nurse was surprised that my port was located at the waistband area. The insurance paperwork gets submitted today or tomorrow. The surgeon doesn't expect them to deny band removal, and said if they deny the revision, he will still do it for a small fee ($500?) to cover use of stapling equipment. So I'm expecting to have surgery in 3-4 weeks. Sent from my SM-N920P using the BariatricPal App

Complications with Banded Plication?
IMissVegas replied to jesse_ca712's topic in Gastric Plication Surgery Forum
I never heard of this before, so googled it. They fold the stomach into a smaller shape, similar to a sleeve, but don't cut the stomach. Is this being done in the US? The website says the procedure is in the "investigative" stage. The website said it was a lapband revision surgery. http://obesitycontrolcenter.com/surgery-options/gastric-plication/ Sent from my SM-N920P using the BariatricPal App -

NEED HELP! Smoking.... possible Chantix?
KristenLe replied to Heatgirl03's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Smoking can cause significant issues post-op - I'm very surprised your surgeon didn't say you had to quit completely. I'm glad that you're not taking his advice. My surgeon had a patient that quit for surgery and started right back up post-op - she ended up ulcerating her stomach/pouch - requiring emergency surgery and a revision. Needless to say - they are even more strict about it. It also increases chance of blood clots - which is the number 1 cause of death following WLS. -

Good luck! I go in for my band to bypass revision on October 4.

My band was placed in July 2010 and now I'm in the process of revising to VSG. I wish you all the luck in the world in your process. I had limited success with the band and am looking forward to being able to swallow food without getting pressure in the back of my throat.

No drinking with meals?
starlight_dreams replied to gustavio's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If it can happen to the small little pouch of gastric bypass then common sense and hundreds of revised sleeve surgeries would tell you it can happen to either sense they don't take as much of the stomach like they do in the gastric bypass. JS Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

My doc said our "pouches" cannot be stretched because the elastic portion of the stomach had been removed. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App If you couldn't stretch your stomach then why would they have sleeve revision surgery? Is VERY possible to stretch your new sleeve or pouch out. That's a huge reason some have issues with weight regain after a few months post op WLS Sent from my SM-G920V using the BariatricPal App Well I'm not trying to start a debate. OCTOBER GBs where are you?!?!
Tammy Shannon replied to jtellechea001's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@momto3E, PB2 is not bad. It comes in regular Peanut Butter and chocolate peanut butter. We always keep it on hand, as my children like it too! As for issues with my band...I could never tolerate more than 4cc's of Fluid. I had 4cc's for about a year with no problem, and all of a sudden I got the worst acid reflux ever. I didn't realize it was the band until after suffering for a month and half before calling my doctor. I felt INSTANT relief once he removed the fluid. We tried to put the fluid back in, but I only got back up to 3cc's. I think i'm just really scared to go any further. When I was sick, I had real difficulty eating healthy foods (no salads, vegetables, most meats) and I resorted to ice cream and potato chips. Bad choices, but I was hungry. Why are you having a revision? Tammy -

Laliza: during my consult the surgeon basically said that, that " many people are havibg bad gerd 4 to 5 years out, from the sleeve". The surgeon said "the sleeve is easier and faster". He also said i could have a revision if I had problems" I said I dont want to chance it. RNY is the way I will go. Sent from my SM-N920P using the BariatricPal App
