Hi Erin I tend to have eggs for breakfast - a favorite of mine before WLS - I find my day gets off to a god start with some protein and veggies. I usually have them scrambled or poached with a couple of slices of low-carb toast or add veggies & 1 oz low-fat cheese instead (mushrooms, peppers, tomatoes, green onions etc). Here's some other ideas I got from various WLS sites - hope they help - good luck. Egg Salad 2 boiled eggs, 1 tablespoon reduced-fat mayo, 3 Ryvita crisp-bread. Total calories = 364 Strawberry Nut Oatmeal Cook ¾ c dry old-fashioned quick oats with water (to desired consistency), and top with 1 c strawberries or blueberries and 2 Tbsp pecans. Total Calories = 375 Vanilla Fruit-and-Nut Parfait Mix 1½ c whole grain puffed cereal with 6 oz fat-free vanilla yogurt, 1 c blueberries, and 2 Tbsp almonds. Total Calories = 354 Southwest Breakfast Tacos Fill three soft corn tortillas with the following ingredients: ½ cup egg whites, scrambled; ¼ cup sliced Hass avocado ¼ cup low-fat shredded Cheddar cheese, and ¼ cup salsa verde. Total calories: 363 Breakfast Pita Warm 1 multigrain pita and fill evenly with 4 scrambled egg whites or ½ c liquid egg, ½ c fresh baby spinach leaves, ¼ c salsa, and ¼ c sliced avocado. Total Calories = 329 Toast and Cheese Toast 2 slices sesame-sprouted whole grain bread and top with ¼ c nonfat ricotta cheese and 2 Tbsp walnuts. Serve with 1 medium apple. Total Calories = 372 Cashew Crunch Top 1 slice sesame-sprouted whole grain bread with 2 Tbsp cashew butter and ¼ c raisins. Total Calories = 400 Mediterranean Breakfast Wrap Fill a 100% whole wheat wrap with ½ cup egg substitute, scrambled; 1 oz feta cheese; 1 diced plum tomato; and 10 large sliced black olives. February 2016 sleevers?
nicky2221 replied to NYGirlxo's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a hard time because of hunger and tiredness the first two days. Wednesday and Thursday weren't as hard but I was still hungry. Today I had a harder time because there was a Superbowl Party right behind my desk, but I have fantastic friends that brought veggies and low fat dip and a strawberry salad. I had raw veggies with a little dip and a salad with some raspberry vinaigrette. Not too much sugar and I didn't veer far off the path too far. I had a shake an hour ago because I stay hungry! Do the best you can. It's a struggle but you can do it! it's hard isn't it,I'm on a liquid only diet so I'm allowed 8 yogurts a day with 1 pint of milk that's all :-( the yogurts are making me feel sick though so only managed to eat half of one today and yesterday! But I've lost 8 pounds so that's good I guess! Thank you for your support :-) we can get through this ???? 10 days left until surgery!! -
Protein Shakes after surgery
DanaC84 replied to Timberleah's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
But if you’re hitting your protein goals without them and you hate them, why bother? On those days you’re not quite hitting your goals maybe do a yogurt or string cheese or cottage cheese or any type of protein you actually like. This road is rough enough without having to force yourself into something you truly dislike. But I do get how easy of a grab and go they are. Have you tried any of the protein waters? The brand I was drinking pre op makes me gag now (so I totally get it!!) Good luck and let us know what you find! -
I am so sorry to hear the fills have been such a struggle. I had my second one yesterday and it seems to be okay. But I am feeling like it is pretty tight. I couldn't even eat yogurt this morning. So i am back on the Protein Shakes (yum, I know!). I am trying some that are in the refrigerator section and have more calories. They are more expensive but are much better than what I had before and its only for two days. I lost 3 more lbs since my last fill three weeks ago. So getting close to the 20 lb mark. I also read a very inspirational book called Lapband and Laughter. The author went through all of the ups and downs of her 3 year experince. I would recommend it for anyone needing motivation. Here's the link: http://lapbandsandlaughter.com.au/ All the best, Melissa PS I am going to the Bahamas in January and think that is a good goal for a little more weight loss.

Hi tdosal, In the meantime, while you are waiting to get a de-fill (if you should decide to do that) you can have things like hummus, or a combination of rice and beans, milk, yogurt and eggs or egg whites if you can't handle whole eggs. I would see how you do over a couple of weeks, as sometimes adding food makes our body have to adjust and then it will realize you aren't starving yourself and use those extra calories. At least I'm certainly hoping so! And that's the theory I've heard. Mary

Time for Liquid Diet and SCARED... HELP!!!
BlueEyedBaby replied to StacieM's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have been on the liquid diet since last Tuesday. I was kinda nervous about it at first but I have challenged myself to find different "allowable" liquids to "eat" so I won't get bored with it. There are many different types of liquid diets but the one I am on allows me to have a limited amt of cottage cheese and yogurt so I do get a little variety. Beyond that, as long as it is sugar free/low carb and liquid I can have it. I have discovered several types of "broth" Soups. I fill up on egg drop Soup and have tried a new recipe that I will soon use as a "gravy" for different meals. I truely loved the taste. Just mix 1 can of Campbells beef consume' soup (It is a broth type soup but do not use beef broth) and one can of cheddar cheese soup and heat to boiling. I also have added a small can of tomato sauce to it along with a touch of splenda to take the sour out of the tomato. It is scrumptous. Low cal and low carb. If you will view it as a challenge, it makes it easier to handle. Hang in there, you will do great! :whoo: -
April 2014 RNY/Bypass Post Op Support
Swhitton85 replied to Amyllf2's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hey everyone, I'm exactly 3 weeks post op today! I have been feeling GREAT! No pain since 5days post op other then some soreness. I went back to week last Monday so it was 13 days post op & I did great (office work) other then feeling like I had no energy 1/2 way thru the day! I have not had any nausea since I left the hospital. At my 1 week post op appt my dr have me my new menu which consists of scrambled egg, cheese, yogurt, vegetarian refried beans, mashed potatoes, tuna, & grilled fish. I have been doing great with all the above I've tried! When I go to my 1 month post op next week I get a new menu. I can't wait. I'm getting tired of the same 7 items lol. I lost 21 lbs the first 2 weeks post op & then gained 1.5 lbs & have stayed at that weight the last 6 days. My clothes are definately getting loose on me. I have dropped 1 size. I hope everyone else is doing good & good luck to u all. I will keep u updated! -
HELP How do I get all my protein?
BLERDgirl replied to chip305's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ask her to give you a sample diet to follow. I meet my Protein requirements, but I do have at least one Protein shake a day. I eat between 600 - 800 calories a day. My Breakfast is a shake using Isopure unflavored whey Protein powder, ½ cup of Fage 0% greek yogurt and either a bit of fresh fruit or a tablespoon of almond butter. Occasionally I add ½ a tbsp of raw honey. To this I add ½ a cup of Water and mix it in the nutra bullet. I drink half before my morning workout and the other half post workout. This yields 30 - 38 gms of protein. The rest of the day is easy since I've now gotten most of my protein in. I then eat regular lunch. Pretty much whatever strikes my fancy. Sometimes it's just a soft scrambled egg with a tsp of salsa and a bit of avocado, or it could be blackbeans with a sunnyside up egg and a sprinkling of shredded cheese. I spend most of the afternoon sipping water. dinner varies from Soup to a small salad with a hardboiled egg and/or a meat substitute (I am vegetarian) That could be tofu, tempeh, seitan, and occasionally Beyond meat products. I typically dress my salads with a bit of EVOO. My avg protein consumed this week is 67.5 I am not saying it can't be done, but if she wants you to keep your calories that low, meet your protein requirements, AND not use any Protein shakes, she needs to provide you with some specific examples. -
HELP How do I get all my protein?
samuelsmom replied to chip305's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@chip305 I couldn't possibly follow that plan. I know one of the dangers of WLS is grazing, however, I just cannot eat that much at one meal and am hungry about 2 hours later. A snack of greek yogurt or a cheese stick works great for me. If this is something you can do, great, however, I would recommend a call to the nutritionist if not. For Protein ideas: Fish, eggs, and meat are all good sources. As are lentils. Peanut Butter (if you can tolerate it at this point) is a good protein source also. I usually do have one protein shake a day to help me meet my goals. I also think it a good idea to ask for a sample menu as recommended in a prior post. Good Luck! -
I'd respectfully disagree with Grady here. Advice varies in the medical world & each body/stomach is unique. You may require the odd nutritious snack, especially if its high protein. I'm exercising at a level that requires more protein than many at my stage (I'm pretty new to this too!) My nutritionist wants me to have protein yogurts or bars post work out to prevent muscle loss. I know someone who has a long thin stomach & can't fit enough in at normal meal times so must supplement by snacking.

Any August 2019 people out there?
mr.sean replied to big_ange's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow that sounds like me in the first 2-3 weeks, not 3 months. By 4-5 weeks I could eat a yogurt in a few minutes. I think it's a good thing though? You'll probably be in the top percentage of weight loss. -
No Pre Op Diet Ordered?
Anaisa replied to ucmgrad2001's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine was 2 weeks liquid diet . 4 protein shakes a day , 64 oz of water a day , sugar free jello, sugar free pudding , 1 hard boiled egg , fat free yogurt. Im already done w my 2 weeks im down 9lbs my surgery is in 48 hrs . Sent from my SM-G965U using BariatricPal mobile app -
yep - the others are correct. It's the added sugar that they want you to avoid (or really limit). Most of the sugar in yogurt (unless it's got added sugar in it because of the flavorings) is lactose, which is naturally occurring in milk. I eat yogurt every day and have since my surgery nine years ago. I eat very little meat, so having Greek yogurt for breakfast starts my day off with a good amount of protein.
-
That's the stuff you have to buy online right? Can you give me the link again. I do drink at least 64 oz of water per day. Most days more. I just put some fiber one in my yogurt. I read somewhere to put it in a coffee grinder and mix it in foods. That benefiber doesn't help me either.

becky!!!!! girl, we have been going through this together...banded same date. and have ran into each other several times with similar experiences. in my opinion, you are not getting enough solid foods. I WOULD BE LOOKING FOR food ALL THE TIME IF I ATE THAT...but that is just me. i was tight, where i was eating like that, and i was miserable. you didn't have anything solid until dinner. now, i know that some people on here do the same thing, and if that works for you great, but those liquid calories in Soups and instant breakfast, and yogurt add up really quick. i think the instant breakfast has like 90 cal, yogurt usually the same, they do have Protein, but mixed with milk you get more calories than protein. but again, i am not perfect. this is a typical day for me: breakfast---around 10..nothing before.. 3/4 slimfast high Protein Bar (190 calories and 15 grams of protein for the whole thing). 3/4 of a 1/2 of a tuna sandwich for lunch..on wheat, with some fritos in the sandwich ( i know weird). for dinner, 4 bites of solid meat, hamburger steak, real steak, chicken...whatever, 2 bites of veggies, and if i have room, starch. ...that is typical, definately not the rule though. for instance last night, i forgot to eat cuz i wasn't hungry, then i had sugar drop, got the shakes, inhaled some tuna salad on chips, threw it all back up because i didn't chew very well..then had nothing else for dinner. so i had nothing for bk, 1/8 of a nacho bell grande taco bell (weakness), and then nothing for dinner....know what i did??? pigged out on ice cream snickers right before bed... that's what i get for not eating. you are eating healthier than i am, but i think you would get less calories with more solid Proteins. my doc has a rule....he doesn't like for us to have milk..EVER...i don't like milk..so no problem for me, and he doesn't want us drinking our food. period. i thought the only way that i could lose weight was to be super tight, but i was wrong. and i feel a lot better now that i'm eating. i lost 4 lbs since last week!!!!

Bandster, WOW, what you said really made sense to me. I've fallen in to the soft foods 'easy' trap! I've been eating soft foods because they are easier to get down and that might be where I've been running into problems. I wrote down everything I ate yesterday and today when I got on the scale, I was up a pound. This is SO frustrating. I'd be happy with 1 lb. a week at this rate!! I'm getting VERY close to getting VERY discouraged/disappointed! This is what I ate yesterday - if anyone has any feedback, I'd be very interested in hearing it. 3.5L (~120 oz.) of Water 1 Cup of Tea 2 Instant breakfasts (one morning and one afternoon) 1/2 cup of yogurt, granola & strawberries 1 cup chicken vegetable soup for lunch 1 oz. cheddar cheese 1 cup skim milk 1 shrimp enchilada I didn't exercise because I'm doing Curves 3x a week (and today is my day to go again). Any ideas anyone? Thanks in advance for your help!!

2nd Fill - Too Tight???
2beskinny replied to 2beskinny's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Aaaaahhhhh....much better  Got .5 taken out today. I was able to swallow Water again immediately and then had a bowl of veggie Soup (mostly broth) for lunch. The surgeon who did my fill was in surgeries today so his PA did my unfill. She did a great job and wanted to go the whole .5. I asked her if we could do .2 or .3 as I was trying to avoid feeling the NO restriction feeling again, but she assured me that it was best to go .5. I was very swollen and got immediate relief. I still felt some restriction with the soup (probably mostly the swelling) but I'll take it. Being overfilled is miserable! It kinda made bandster hell seem OK. It was a learning experience I couldn't even exercise this morning because of the weird feeling in my chest after just 2 sips of water! My next fill is in 5 weeks. She made the observatioin that most people with the 10cc band that I have feel restriction between 4-5 ccs. Maybe the 3rd one will be the sweet spot! I'm at 3 now after the partial unfill, plus maybe a touch more from the priming procedure during surgery. Kydman - my doc says eat "lightly" the day of the fill, then after - clear liquids only for 24 hours. Then pureed for 24 hours, then soft for 24 hours, then regular food again. I can tell you that with my first fill I had no problems whatsoever. I felt I was pretty swollen from the surgery for only about 3-5 days. After that initial period I didn't necessarily feel hungry, but I could eat a container of yogurt or 4 oz. of cottage cheese, etc. whereas the first couple of days I could only do a couple of bites. I remember thinking that I might not get my first fill as scheduled because I really wasn't hungry. By the time the date rolled around, I felt like I could handle it and did fine. My doc, however, is only 20 minutes away, so I always have an option. I know some folks travel quite the distance to their docs so you have to choose what makes sense for you. One more week into the healing process can make a HUGE difference in how you are feeling -
Please share your yummy stuff!
pixistix replied to hokiemama's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I make Ranch dip with plain Greek yogurt instead of sour cream, then dip tomatoes, broccoli, baby spinach, carrots. Yummmmm! Just use dry ranch salad dressing/dip mix and add 16 oz plain Greek yogurt. Delicious and unbelievably good for you. -
I was working a job that I had to leave my house at 7 and had an hour drive. Luckily I had the type of job where I could eat at my desk when I got there. I would have greek yogurt; and in a baggie bring the following to mix in: half scoop vanilla whey isolate Protein powder, tsp benefiber, splendra. This makes the yogurt even thicker. In a second baggie I would carry 1/4 cup Kashi Go lean high protein Cereal. This makes for a really thick mushie. Doctors are concerned that someone will have a Protein shake and being liquid be hungry a hour later. Then the person will be tempted to eat that donut because they are starving and it's hours until lunch.

maybe just give solids a try for a week or so ? bananas, sliced apple, nuts, yogurt, 1/2 of a protein bar , or my personal favorite , turkey jerkey ! ( high protein, low in fat and calories.)

Mine is October 12 as well, I'm going to start my pre-op diet tomorrow. I did find out though that i am able to eat SF Jello, LF/SF Yogurt and LF/SF Pudding in addition to my 2 shakes and soups for dinner. I told my husband today that I wanted to have my "last meal" tonight.

My 2 week post op appt is Wednesday. I am so freakin hungry I can't hardly stand it! I've been sticking with yogurts and soups because I don't want to do too much to soon and mess something up. Today is the first day that I have been absolutely miserable and hungry.

Suggestion on add ins to protein shakes
SWChitown replied to SWChitown's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My Dr says no fruit or yogurt etc in the pre opp! It's very strict, water + protein powder + anything sugar free flavoring wise & then 4 oz of meats, cheeses or eggs.
