Failure, forgiveness & getting real
busybeebug replied to Nibbler's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I've been using genepro. I count the scoop as on 15 grams because it doesn't sound right that the scoop is,equal to 30 grams of protien. My Surgeon agreed with me. I put it in hot beverages ( under 140 degrees). It tastes better in Apple sauce or oatmeal. -
Failure, forgiveness & getting real
Bufflehead replied to Nibbler's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I want to push back a little. Why do you need to drink protein instead of eating, say, chicken, fish, lean beef, etc.? I personally don't use Genepro because I don't trust its claims (gram is a unit of weight -- you can't get 30 grams of protein out of 15 grams of substance). But if I did use it, I'd probably check out prices here at the BariatricPal store, Amazon, and EBay and figure out who has the best price and shipping deal combined. Good luck! -
Went to my 12 mo. post op last week. I've lost 90 lbs. total but have not lost a pound in the last 4 months. The PA said i'm doing great and that stalls are common however you and I know I should have lost some weight in the last three months. Very frustrated and to be honest quite weepy over the whole thing. I swore that I would not be one of those that fail. I'm doing everything different this time (this diet) than I have done before. First thing I did was to forgive myself for gaining it all and allowing myself to be kinder and gentler with myself.....well I think I forgave myself into one too many slices of apple pie. I also increased my activity and have been walking/bending/stretching/hauling (we are clearing land of dead trees....thats some pretty awesome exercise). I have struggled with low Protein numbers since day one. I developed a sensitivity to the Protein shakes early on as i had to do the pre op diet twice because i had to cancel surgery due to a death in the family. It kind of scared me off all Protein drinks and I just can't eat enough to get enough of the protein in. Getting real......I need to put my big girl pants on and drink the damn protein. Its the answer to my problem I know this. I need to increase my Water intake....two simple things that I can do to be successful. The PA at my Dr.s suggested MR Musclegen Research GENEPRO medical grade protein (amazon.com) Its flavorless and I've only had one serving (in coffee) and it went down ok. The thing that sets this apart is a different method of creating it that is supposed to be more gentle on your tummy and it contains 30 gm in one tablespoon. My question.....have you used this product? What are you mixing it in? can you bake with it? Where are you buying it from...this stuffs pricy? Any other helpful tidbits for those of you past the 8 month stall?

Heightened smells and gag reflex

Are you having any Protein drinks or shakes? Do you just keep going back to liquids? What protein are you keeping down? Sent from my SM-N920V using the BariatricPal App I can put GENEPRO in my yogurt and sometimes get a premier Protein shake down(I have to force myself but it depends on if I can get my gagging under control). Nothing tastes the way I remember it. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
My doctor also suggested a product called GENEPRO. He said there is 30g of Protein in a tablespoon. It is unflavored and can be added to Water, crystal light, oatmeal or anything. I haven't tried it yet but he says it is great. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Full liquid suggestions?
PorkChopExpress replied to mollydeez's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There are other options for protein. Get some of the flavorless powder like Genepro and mix it with other liquid stuff you're eating, like yogurt or even Crystal Light. It works well and gives you a nice change from those shakes. I agree, after four weeks of almost nothing but shakes, I was ready to be done with them. -

Taste Buds
PorkChopExpress replied to allamericanguy80's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I hated Isopure, tasted pretty nasty...every flavor. Very strong medicinal taste, to me. Get yourself some GENEPRO powder. It's almost totally flavorless and mixes nice. I have mixed it with Crystal Light, Hormel Chili, and even Taco Bell pintos & cheese. One tablespoon is 30g of Protein, so it's a great alternative to protein shakes. I'm with you, after four weeks straight of surviving on them, I was so sick of those shakes I couldn't stand it. The Genepro has been a great discovery. As for the taste buds, I'm fortunate that my surgery didn't create any changes in how I perceive the taste of things. I don't know if that'll be a permanent thing, or if it's hormone-based, or what. But some people do say that their tastes change after surgery, in which case you kind of just have to find new things that will work. In terms of Water, I'd try to see if purified or R/O water makes any difference. It might be the metals in the water or something else, that are bugging you. -
Do you like mashed potatoes? I love 'em. As long as you get it without chunks and it's smooth, that's close enough to puree. Mixes nice with flavorless Protein like GENEPRO, too. Throw some cooked chicken in the food processor with a little bit of chicken stock, and add some seasonings. I know a guy who did a touch of fat-free ranch and some buffalo wing sauce, and had it that way lol... You just kind of have to get a little creative. You can also grab some Hormel chili and throw that in the food processor, blend it until it's basically a paste. If you have a food processor, you can more or less puree anything. It's not going to be like eating solid food, but you don't have to do it forever.

I use propel all the time. According to my surgeon it is very acceptable. I like to mix GENEPRO flavorless Protein in with the strawberry/kiwi flavor to get my protein in. It does change the color but definitely not the taste! It has been a life savor especially since for a while I could not stand the thought of milk based protein.

Need help with protein

I LOVE GENEPRO!!!! I have been using it for almost 4 months now. I add it to my coffee. Which I am a hard core coffee drinker so using the GENEPRO is a win win for me!! As far as Isopure I commend anyone that can handle it!! YUKKY I only wish I had found Genepro a long time ago. As I'm 3 years out and I would definitely hate to know how much money I have spent on different Protein drinks!! -

Check out GEnePro, I believe it has 30 grams of protein, tasteless, and add it to the mashed potatoes. I add it to V8 and no taste whatsoever. -
It's going to be physically impossible for you to consume too many calories, unless you literally eat every time your stomach empties, and drink Coke between meals. I am eating four meals a day now, with two 30g Protein scoops in crystal light, and I don't break 500 calories. Then with my 30 minutes of elliptical, I'm burning about 200 calories. So when my TDEE is around 3,300 calories and my total input is 500 calories, I'm not too worried. Trust me, get an app like MyFitnessPal and start programming in everything you consume, in the exact quantities. You will see that it would be phenomenally difficult for you to eat too many calories. You'd have to actually work at it. Just follow your surgeon and dietitian's recommendations and you're going to be fine. Just never touch any drinks with sugar in them, or carbonation! I think Hormel chili is great, very easy to begin with (and also good to mix with a flavorless Protein powder like Genepro). I also liked Trader Joe's turkey meatballs, with a bit of mashed potato. Very easy starter foods. And scrambled eggs! Don't forget those. Just chew everything until you could suck it through a straw, before you swallow it. Let it sit for a while before you take another bite, because it'll feel funny at first. Get used to the feeling, and pay attention to how your stomach fills up. Eventually you'll know exactly how much food it takes to fill your stomach and you can pre-package it, which is what I do. Works perfectly.

I HAD GASTRIC BYPASS SEPTEMBER 22 from Grimsley TN
mike4276 replied to Tammy3826's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I'm three months out and still struggle to get enough Protein and drink enough fluids. Before my surgery I could drink 7 or 8 bottles of Water in a day. Now I force myself to drink one. I have found out I can drink decaf coffee, sugar free hot chocolate, tomato juice, etc better than water. I found a product available at Walmart, Meijer, & Amazon called New whey. It has 42g of protein in only 3.8oz of liquid. I like the fruit punch flavor. It's much easier to get less than 4oz down than 12oz. It is kind of expensive at $14.99 for 6. My doctor just recommended a product called GENEPRO available on Amazon. One tablespoon is 30 grams of protein and it is unflavored. He says mix it with a drink or oatmeal or Soup and I will never taste it. It gets very good reviews. I'm going to try it. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

Which brand and where did u buy it Sent from my HTC Desire 626s using the BariatricPal App GENEPRO unflavored Protein powder seems to be popular. You can mix it to almost anything. Just be careful not to heat it, since it can lose some of it's potency. You can add it to warm broth but don't put the protein in the microwave. It also mixes to cold stuff like milk or yogurt. Use unsweetened almond milk if you have problems with lactose. Nilla -
I bought the GENEPRO. I'm 2 weeks post op and using it to supplement. I'm drinking premier Protein shake, eating cottage cheese and Greek yogurt to get protein as well. I'm not sure if it's a scam as I have read both sides. How can you tell who is telling the truth. I will ask dietician at my one month post op appointment. But I figure at this point as long as it's giving me some extra protein and doesn't have too much taste it's better than nothing. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
