  1. Very good NSV! I can totally relate! My husband is very large (400 or so) and we have to choose tables and we can never eat on the patio if it has plastic chairs. While that fact is startling to me, it is taking him a while to wrap his head around it. Congrats! Enjoy this!

    Yoga Moves For Big Folks

Try to look for classes or shows that have modified moves. The instructor at a local fitness center where I'm at does that. She is, of course, in excellent shape, but not everyone in the class is, so she always shows at least 2 or 3 different variations of some of the more complex poses for people who aren't as flexible. Don't give up on it though...yoga is my absolute favorite workout. I have come a really long way since I have started doing it and I can get my body into better positions than some of the smaller ladies in my class. I kind of look at it as an NSV Good luck!
  3. Congrats on one great NSV, Floridays! You deserve all the compliments you get! (Go Seminoles )!!Karen
  4. I'm getting toward the end of my journey, and it's funny how things are so different from the inside looking out. I've realized through this journey that while each NSV and every mini goal met is significant and praise worthy, the most significant loss I had was the first 30-40 for me. It was when I hit the middle of those numbers that I realized that I WAS doing this! I AM going to succeed!! I CAN keep losing this weight!! It was the true marker for me and the green light to realize that my body was changing, I was shrinking and it was the first and probably the biggest boost to my confidence that I've had this entire journey. That being said, the first 30-40 lbs of my loss was probably the most insignificant to those around me and who saw me on a daily basis. It was enough for them to see that I'd lost 'some' weight, but let's face it when you're as big as we all are/were a 30-40 lb loss LOOKS like maybe 10-15 to the untrained eye. I don't even think my first 30 I went down a pant size yet! Hardly anyone noticed those first blocks of weight when they were shed, but I knew. I noticed, and I was proud!! Now, as I'm battling my last 40-30 pounds it seems really insignificant, I've already battled away over 100 lbs of loss, what is 30 or 40 more? It's nothing! BUT! To those that are outside looking in, I think this is the MOST significant 30-40 pounds. In my last 10 pounds of loss I've had more compliments, comments, people noticing how small I've gotten. They marvel and wonder aloud 'How much more are you going to lose?!'. It's funny how that flip is switched. For me to say 'Oh, just 30' now the looks are of shock and awe! When I lost my first 30, those who asked how much I had lost and I told 'Oh, just 30' very excited and bubbly, they'd respond with maybe a glance and an over the shoulder 'Oh, that's good...'. It's funny how people perceive those who are going through a change. Ultimately, I'm proud of every last pound, every last inch. This transformation has been amazing! I'm not the fastest loser, but I'm not giving up!! I'm going to do it! I'm going to reach my goal, and I know each and everyone of us can and will!!

Need help with the LBT acronyms

Heyas Ms. Vicki NSV is non-scale victory. Benefits of weight loss other than reading the numbers on the darn scale. PB is productive burp. Nice words for a very unpleasant event which occurs when we don't chew well, eat slowly, or choose wisely. The food gets stuck and has to come back up. Not a pretty sight. DH is darling husband. ILs is in-law's. DD is darling daughter, DS darling son, etc. There are many more of these types of abbreviations in the thread that StrawartS has references in her post above. Click on that link and you'll be taken to that thread. *laughs* K@t you beat me to it. Hi K@t! *waves cheerfully*

Great NSV... congrats! I agree the tape measure is more of a friend to me that the scales; I haven't lost a pound for 6 weeks... but in that time I have dropped a trouser size????

    Scale and NSV

I am at my June goal weight...200 lbs. I can't believe it. I feel so good. I am down a clothing size from 18W to 16 regular. I saw a co-worker today I haven't seen in a couple of months. She looked me up and down and said that I am getting so skinny. That felt so good! It is worth not eating the bread (not sure if I can or not---just gave it up) and lettuce. Thanks!

    My happy little NSV

  11. So yesterday was my 9 years wedding anniversary and the hubby took me out for dinner to Logan's and,I ordered a grilled chicken breast with a baked sweet potato and I shared my meal with my 2 year old baby. I asked for a to go box before I start eating my meal and I took out of my plate the food that I was not going to eat I was so full with 2 bites of chicken and 2 tsp of sweet potato. I was so happy!!! Before I could eat the whole plate and ask for desert Yay for my sleeve. I took home the left overs and my daughter and my husband had some. I just had 2 bites of the chicken for lunch. Now that I am not allow to eat much I realized the ridiculous portions of food that restaurants serve here in America and is worse in Texas lol I just wanted to share my first experience dining out
  12. Thanks for the comments. Glad to know it's normal. I know I shouldn't sweat the stall but I was hitting my goals more often than not so I was concerned. As for weighing everyday I am working on getting better at not doing it. The NSV help me not want to run to the scale everyday burst here lately the stall junk has me doing it more often than not. I guess I will just keep doing what I'm doing an wait out the stalls. Thanks for reassuring me that these things happen!

    OMG!!! me = 18/20 top

That is a fabulous NSV! You look great and I can tell by your smile that you obviously are feeling fantastic as well. Congratulations!! :biggrin1:
  15. That's a great NSV, but I want to remind you that even if you were still fat, you're STILL not that person. Fat is something we do, not something we are. You will always be you, and you'll always be awesome and have value, regardless of what shape you show the world. I also would like to offer a suggestion for your husband. Because this student is a kid, even if he's an older kid, this can be turned into a teaching moment... At some point, he could say "I know when you look at this photo all you see is a fat person, but that's because you're a teenager and don't know how to look beyond the surface. As you get older and your brain finishes growing, you'll be able to see more than just that." There's probably a way to tie this into an art lesson, about seeing beneath the surface, and trying to paint what's inside... Or whatever. But if he gets angry, he's telling the kid that he's right... And he's not. He just doesn't know.
  16. Jenn1214...that is such an awesome NSV. I have to admit...I still get perturbed at comments and actions like that. I just want to scream at people..."You don't like the way I look now??? You shoulda seen me 3 1/2 months ago!" But...it doesn't do any good to get angry over it. We only hurt ourselves when we react rather than respond. I may need to have tattooed on the inside of my arm so I don't forget what I just wrote. LOL.
  17. Yay you!!! That’s one of the NSV’s im looking forward to!
  18. The focus of 2016 for me will continue to be centered on my health and weight loss journey. I plan to reach my goal weight by my birthday in March, but even if I don't I will continue my eating plan. I'm a bit of a foodie and love good food and wine but now realize that alcohol may need to drop off the menu along with the recreation of trying out new restaurants. My husband wanted to take me out for a big New Year's Eve dinner at a highly acclaimed restaurant, but when I saw the menu I realized I would be overeating ( several courses were being served) and over drinking. I didn't want to feel the regret of going off my plan and trying to eat all that food or the sting of him paying for food / wine I can't eat / drink. We opted for a fun evening with friends and I was able to take a few healthy appetizers for their buffet. Their celebration was alcohol- free. Surprisingly, neither one of us felt deprived and we had a great time. Even though this is sort of unrelated, I have been the recipient of some of my mom's estate - antiques and household items. Although I really love her, I'm not an antique kind of person contemporary and minimalist is more my style. The realization came that all stuff has been in my garage and storage for about 5 years, cluttering my space with its physical and emotional weight and costing extra money to store. My resolution is to find a way to let go of her things ( keeping the great memories of course) and lose the burden that having it entails. Having surgery has helped me to become lighter in so many ways that I cannot imagine the act of divesting myself of all the stuff I've been holding onto will not further enhance my journey going forward. So many things about having VSG have come as a surprise. I'm looking forward to more NSVs, optimizing my health and helping my hubby as he begins to lose weight too. Looks like we're off to a good start????????????????Happy New Year and wishes for your success to all my Bariatric Pals!

    Another semi NSV

Funny how those closest to us turn out to be our greatest critics, sabatouers, etc. I guess my greatest NSV was when I told the lady at Curves how much I weighed BEFORE she put me on the scale and she said 'there is no way you can way that much!'. Strangers have a much more objective view and those who know us or live in close proximity to us seem to have a need to 'keep us in our place', so to speak. Sad.. Not sure how big or small she is, but take heart in thinking in your own mind, maybe you can offer her your own clothes as you no longer need them. If your stats are up to date, you've lost over 90 lbs!! There is NO WAY one could not notice.. what a witch! Great job!!!

    NSV at DMV

Hurray! How fun for you, great NSV!
  21. I've been on this forum for almost a year and there are still things I don't know......what you can you add: NSV - Non Scale Victory SMO - Super Morbidly Obese....(just learned this one) Slider food - means it goes down easily and has little nutrional value, I think WLS - Weight Loss Surgery PPI - not sure what this stands for, but I know I took one (Nexium) for the first four months NUT - short for Nutrionist I know there are a ton more; many I don't know.....let's get them all down in one place!

    NSV at DMV

Now that's a great NSV, and one of the more peculiar ones I've read. You must be on top of the world?
  24. The NSV... I went to my nephew's brass band concert last night. It was held in the auditorium of my high school alma mater. This auditorium is pretty much like most high school auditoriums across America... not too comfy, nor too roomy. I not only was able to sit in the seat with room to spare, but I could even sit with my legs crossed! The catty comment... Since my nephew has been in this brass band, I have found out that a girl I went to kindergarten thru hs with also has a daughter in the same band. I have not seen her since we graduated from hs (1988 :frown:). Pretty much since the 4th grade, she has made nasty remarks about not only my weight, but my mother's weight as well (ie. call xxx-xxxx and ask for "FAT A$$"). Well... I do believe that she has gained the 80+ pounds that I have lost since being banded. Unfortunately, she arrived after the concert had started so I couldn't go up and say hi to her. ISN'T KHARMA A BEE-OTCH!
  25. Trying to stay positive and focused but feeling discouraged I started the living healthy process in October (298 lbs) and had my Sleeve surgery on 3/21/12 (248 lbs). From October to March I lost 50 lbs (pre surgery) on 1300 calories a day – high Protein, low carb eating and enjoying bariaatricchoice.com foods. After my surgery, I lost 13 lbs in the first two weeks. However, I have only lost 12 lbs in the last 6 weeks. (I realize this is a 2 lb a week average, but it feels slow.) I am only eating 700 calories a day and this is primarily from Protein shakes and lean meats (80 grams protein), all my liquids and Vitamins. I walk about 2-3 miles a day and just purchased the Fitbit (it is charging for the first time as I type). I don’t have regrets, but I am feeling discouraged as I thought I would lose significantly faster than I did when I was on 1300 calories a day. I know I should be feeling great about my progress and feel a bit guilty that I am even posting these rambling thoughts, but I am at my ½ way point and wonder, “What if this is it? What if I don’t lose another pound? “ I am healthy – I have always been healthy – I used to say I was the healthiest morbidly obese person around. I do feel better and I have subtle yet significant NSVs. I just want to figure out how to turbo charge my weightloss. Thanks for being there for me!
