I love salad and the texture isn’t an issue for me but it was the first and I believe only thing to come back up since surgery. I have a huge sensitivity to strong flavors and smells like garlic now. And oil. Anything oily makes me super nauseous so a little light French is my normal go to. Which is weird bc I’ve always been an Italian lover but not anymore.

February 2019 weight loss buds

Looking GREAT! isn’t it funny? Many people seeing us for the first time would never guess that 8 months ago we were scheduled for bariatric surgery. This morning I had an early Pilates class and it was a beginner level class bc that time slot was the only one that worked for me. There were a couple brand new ladies in class— both of them fairly overweight— I’ve done Pilates for 7 months now and know all of the mods to make my workout tougher. One of the newbies said something about it and yet another member said “maybe we can do those things if we can get as skinny as her” Felt surreal to hear that -
October Surgery Roll Call

I just returned from having a mini gastric bypass on October 1 and I have to agree with @ypease, Dr. Ilan and the whole staff at Hospital BC are amazing! I have never had such attentive nurses at any other hospital, the level of care was outstanding. I had some nausea after surgery but once that passed I could not believe how fast I was up walking around and feeling great. Also, If you do go, take the tour. I was not planning to go but I’m glad I did because I had such a good time. -
October Surgery Roll Call

OK kids, here's my Sleeve story - I flew down 9/29 to Hospital BC (Bariatric Pal) in Mexico. I spent the night and had my procedure the next morning. All went well! I came through like a champ. Recovery was goofy as always with general anesthetic. However, by about 6 pm I was ready to roll. The only pain I had was muscle spasms from the gas. I didn't ask for pain meds. When I left, the hospital supplied me with all the meds i needed and 1 prescription for blood thinners. The valet took us directly to a pharmacy where they give a nice discount for your purchase. So I was set to go home. If you are considering WLS in Mexico, please go to Hospital BC! Dr. Illan is a marvelous surgeon with tons of accreditations (plus he is just a wonderful fun person). Every Valet I saw and or met was super attentive and the nurses and other doctors were fabulous as well. BTW, the hotel you go to...The Real, just let me say I think it's a 5 star. The rooms are spacious, modern, have all the amenities you would look for when vacationing +. The tour through Tijuana? That was out standing as well. Our guide Juan is knowledgable and also seemed to know the conversion rates darn well. Cesar's where we had lunch was outstanding! A bit of old Hollywood glamor (dating myself a little) style yet modernized. We watched as they hand tossed salads at "other" tables, and feasted on a sumptuous Onion soup. After a hard day of shopping and sight seeing we went back to the hotel. WOW! Was it hard to fly home today. I'm just saying, please oh pleas, consider BC Hospital. Of course you can find wls surgery for less, but why when you can go be treated like royalty by Dr. Illan and his Team? -
2 years out and weight gain.

Thank you all for these tips. I found through my weight loss I became very obsessive and would be self conscious anytime I ate something I wasn’t suppose to : which is good and bad, good bc I’m aware, bad because I beat myself up over it. The weight gain was fast and unexpected. I started today my do over diet, I didn’t realize how off track I. W.a.s because I found myself lost at what to pack for lunch. I appreciate all your support, I forget that this is a life long journey not just a quick fix and I really do need to work at it. I’m happy you guys responded to me and helped. Thanks so much. -

I’m 8 months out and struggle mightily to get in >800 calories daily. I’m probably an outlier though bc I avoid carbs (unless they’re in salad packs) and eat primarily meat and cheese and other dairy. Those things take up a lot of room in a sleeve Until you can get in 65gm protein daily with ease, I would focus more on TRE than on trying any kind of fast over 16-18 hours. Even now I pretty much live in a 16:8 or 18:6 zone. Every now and then I’ll do a 24 hour fast, but I waited til 6 months post-op before I tried that -

I ❤️ this post! Losing 87 pounds is crazy good progress! I’m feeling you on the excess skin. I’m kinda bummed to realize that for me to truly achieve ALL of my goals, then skin removal might have to be in my future. I’m almost beyond any hope that the places that are really loose and saggy are going to fix themselves, but for now I’m going to take it one day at a time. I posted this in the OOTD thread, but I’m pretty excited bc an outfit I ordered came in and the weather finally turned cool enough for me to start wearing tights and boots. If you would’ve told me that I’d be wearing size medium 8 months ago I would’ve danced and not stop dancing. Now I try to not be upset about having to wear the tights to keep the extra skin sag from showing because it means what used to fill out all that extra skin is now gone -

I had my surgery on the first as well. Feeling great! Some gas pain of & on but otherwise ok. 4 incisions & not sore. I found sleeping on my stomach helps with the gas. Hospital BC In Mexico (BariatricPal) is a great place to have your wls done! -
Okay so I’m asking for advice ladies (and any men who might happen to be lurking) I’m learning that carbs freak me out. As in if I log over 20gm carbs in a day I’d probably cry kind of way. This morning I weighed 156.4– which quite frankly stuns me bc I struggled for 3 weeks to go from 162 to 159, and then I go from 159 to 156 in 4 days, but that kind of thing had happened before. Now that I’m under 2 pounds from goal, it’s becoming more real. One thing I know my brain won’t handle well is any kind of bounce once I get to under 155. I’m asking for help in transitioning. I don’t want to end up with any food phobias and want to stay focused on health first.

Remember that each of us starts in a different place. Even if we were to find someone the same age, gender, height,HW, and SW, you STILL wouldn’t be able to compare yourself because there are so many many complicated factors and biological systems involved with weight gain and weight loss. I guess about the only people who could compare themselves would be identical twins, and even that could be dangerous. As of today I’ve lost 88 pounds PO and my surgery was 2-6-19. I know many in my February group who’ve blown me out of the water in number of pounds lost, but I’m less than 4 pounds from GW and couldn’t be happier with my progress. My progress was “slow, and steady”, but I’m almost there. I won’t quite hit GW by Saturday, and the story of this entire process for me has been falling short of monthly weight loss goals (I think in the 8 months PO, I’ve only hit a goal on time just ONCE) but I’m going to keep plugging away and working the plan. Guys, this is a marathon, not a sprint bc it is something that will have to be managed for the REST OF OUR LIVES.

Omg. Dear you are literally shrinking with each and every OOTD Lordy I’m glad my daughter hasn’t seen your posts bc she wants to adopt a new kitty every week. Problem is, she lives in an apartment with a 1 pet/ household policy and I know who would end up with them. 🤣🤣 The two I have are from her. Lol, can’t have a 3rd....or 4th... or more It is adorbs though

Okay so I’m in! Personal goal: hit GW this month. I’m less than 5 pounds away. Surgery type: VGS on 2-6-19 Weight as of last Friday was 158.8. BMI 24.9 (finally NORMAL range) I’m going to choose anywhere abs Honestly don’t have a fave sweater bc this is my first fall PO. prior to this year, I didn’t have many sweaters bc I’ve always been so hot-natured. Gonna need to find a fave. How fun! Oh and because its October, I’m gonna put this here in honor of myself and all of my sisters who have battled, or who has had a friend or loved one battle this beast.

Speaking of fashion, I spent a big part of the day finally going through all my stuff from years past. I’ve sorted and I’m kind of sad because I know the great majority will end up at goodwill. Not saying that’s a bad thing, but I really wish there was a way I could give it all (and I honestly wouldn’t ask for money for it) to someone just having surgery and a size or two bigger than my old clothes so they’d have some stuff to wear while they transition. I did keep one pair of size 22 pants and xxl top that I wore last year during the holidays. The pants I’m keeping bc I can remember not being able to zip them up easily last July when I hit my 10-year HW of 259. I had zero shorts, or capris, or dresses or anything. It was a billion degrees outside and I had crammed myself in these cargo-style ankle pants and tried to pretend I wasn’t miserable. I have a hard time remembering what I ate for dinner last night, but I clearly remember last July 4th when the realization that I’d gotten so fat that I had about 10 things to wear almost crushed me. I couldn’t wait for the holiday to just be over so I could start this journey. That was after almost 6 months dithering and researching WLS and deciding yet again to diet and exercise on my own. Cause you know.... that method was so successful for all of us. The top I’m keeping there’s a photo of me in it from Christmas Eve 2018. Probably one of 3 photos I allowed to be taken of me in the last couple of years. Anyway, I spent a lot of time going through all of that stuff which kind of felt like a combo between a root canal and counseling session with my therapist.

bruises running down my spine I noticed just yesterday. no doctor had even looked at my back. I told my PCP yesterday i was still in a lot of pain and she said to go back to the ER. um, no. i am so disaffected by my medical care this past week. i am taking some leftover meloxicam and tramadol, as needed, and the prednisone and i will persevere without any more BS. it is a *bit* better, i think. or it could be the prednisone helping. i have a short window in the mornings where it doesnt hurt so bad i can function. i missed almost all week of work last week so I can't do that again. Thanks for the responses guys. It’s really hurtful right now and even though I knew it wasn’t me (I try very hard to fly under the radar, but it’s not exactly like you can “hide” losing over 90 pounds) it’s nice to be reassured. I make very sure that I don’t mention anything about losing weight, buying new clothes, or how good I feel to anybody except you guys and very very close family members and 1-2 friends who I know are absolutely rock-solid love me no-matter-what kind of relationships. As I was stewing over this (because it’s cut me to the core and I’m kind of past the point where I can lie to myself and make yet another excuse up for this girl to avoid me now) I started making a list of positive changes in relationships. 1. I’ve got lots of friends all over the country and one of my long-term-yet-not-very-close friends and I have been reconnecting weekly via text and FB messaging bc she’s lost over 90 pounds (not WLS, just totally gave up sugar and now regularly does duathalons) and that relationship is awesome bc we send each other selfies and report on our progress and hold each other accountable. 2. All of you guys here. As if I didn’t realize how important coming here daily and posting was, the new IOS update really brought that home when my ability to be here is limited to when I can get on my pad. 3. The people I’m seeing daily at the Pilates studio. Okay, so it’s not as easy to make new besties at the age of 50 as it is at the age of 5 (which is a shame really) but seeing these ladies daily in class brings on a feeling of camaraderie that’s really nice. 4. Myself. Probably should’ve listed this relationship first, but the relationship I have with myself is a complete 180 from where I was this time last year.

How long till you were pain free
Sheribear68 replied to Dee2938's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Disclaimer: I had a completely complication-free surgery and recovery. Within 3 hours of surgery, my team took me off of all pain meds except for plain Tylenol in my IV. The most significant “pain” I had was a feeling as if I had been punched repeatedly in the solar plexus and it hurt every time I tried to swallow liquid. Which sucked bc you have to drink 68 ounces liquid before they let you out. I slammed 2 ounces per hour (yes it hurt, but I had to do it regardless) and then finally got to where I was drinking 4-6 ounces/hour as time was running out. Again, it hurt, but I knew I’d hurt worse without it. Luckily I have a cast-iron stomach (sleeve now) and didn’t puke once. The chronic pain in the solar plexus lasted about 2 weeks, but the funny thing is that even though I’m close to 8 months PO, I can still duplicate that pain if I eat too fast, eat too much, or swallow too big a bite of food. I welcome that pain though, because it acts as a reminder to slow down The first 2 weeks just really stink, but they’re totally worth it -
So what are you unable to eat now?
Sheribear68 replied to mlmx1138's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
That’s amazing insight. See, I equate obesity with metabolic syndrome and metabolic syndrome = insulin resistance which is caused by too much processed sugars and carbs. I’ve got the kind of body where if I introduce any refined sugars or starches, the cascade of insulin resistance hits and hits HARD. Then I have to mindfully try to override that lizard-brain that doesn’t want to listen to anything rational bc my body is sending out major signals to eat, eat, eat bc starvation is imminent. Once I finally came to terms with this brutal (and quite unfair) reality the answer was simple: Have WLS for the metabolic reset and treat all carbs like the devil. 🤣🤣🤣 It amazes me that any of you guys can eat small amounts of carbs because even when I go over 30gm carb daily (and healthy carbs at that) I find myself struggling like crazy over the next couple of days to get cravings under control. In a way I’m lucky: I never had any kind of food addiction per se: my problem was I always felt like I was starving and any time I tried to cut calories it would work for a couple of weeks, then my body would fight back and I’d have all sorts of stuff from general lethargy and light-headedness to full on flu-type symptoms until I started eating to my body’s set point. I just can’t go down that rabbit hole again and one thing my surgical team made crystal clear to me was that during this honeymoon period, my body is secretly recording everything and once it’s over, my future set point will be in a large part due to what I ate during these first few months. Which is why (except for a handful of days when wine was consumed) I don’t ever plan for >30gm carbs daily. Soon I’ll hit maintenance and I’m going to have to try to increase my daily calories (I’m usually between 600-800 daily) but I’ll add in fat for the calories before I get back on the carb roller coaster. -
I had gastric sleeve 6 years ago but I cannot get this to change any of my information and it has me as pre-op I am 5 ft 9 in and I lost 133 lbs and just stopped... I got to 200lbs I’m taller so it was ok-ish but now I’ve gained 20 lbs and I’m getting scared bc I never really got to where I was wanting. I do not have loose skin, I kinda look like a small fat person... I wear a size 9/10 in women’s clothes BUT naked I look like miss piggy. I never got the loose skin, I still have thicker fat on my abdomen area and lower belly hangs but it’s thick. I need help, I’ve went to the gym, I’ve walked, I’ve ran... I don’t know what to do.

Intermittent Fasting Daily Menu/Results/Accountability
Sheribear68 replied to FluffyChix's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Okay so I caught up for 2 days. Really hating that I can’t use the app on my phone ATM I’m going to adjust my vitamin regimen on days I OMAD or 24 hr fast. Didn’t realize any of them would throw me out of fasting. Bummer, I figured only the chewable would. Today I had planned on a regular ole 16:8 (my usual) but I had a weird work day broken up with 2 doctors appts, and a total of 3 Pilates classes. It’s supposed to be my staycaytion week, but we got extra hours in our budget to give flu shots, so I worked in two 2 hr increments today doing mini flu-clinics. As a result, I flat didn’t have time to eat (bc of such a weird scheduling day I didn’t pack food) and by 2pm, I was sitting in my PCPs office with my stomach gurgling LOUDLY. Lol, it was definitely complaining, so I grabbed a quick container of milk when I got back to my store and then got home and ate dinner at 7pm. So..... besides the milk, I had almost another 24 hr fast without the benefit of loading up the day before for it. If I got in 40gm protein today, I’ll be shocked. I’ve got a similar day to tomorrow so I’m definitely bringing a PP shake -
Tummy Tuck with liposuction, Inner Thigh liposuction with Fat injections in the Breast
okayestmom posted a topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
So, the VA referred me to plastic surgery to have a cyst removed from my knee. The surgeon said I qualified for skin removal because of the amount of my weight loss. I had no idea they would cover this, because they don’t cover Bariatric surgery unless you are on tri-care. The nurse practitioner said he is a good surgeon and that she would let him do work on her. I requested the referral and my Dr. put it in. We met and he said he could do the tummy tuck with liposuction and even make fake abs if I want them. He said the skin on my thighs isn’t as bad but that he could liposuction my inner thighs during the same operation. He also said the fat could be injected into my breast. I already met my deductible because of my gallbladder surgery, so I scheduled for December. I can do all of this or nothing. Still not sure what I want to do with my belly button either. I always had an outie, but when they did my gallbladder surgery they “repaired my hernia” which means they chopped off my belly button. 😂 I like to make phantom belly button pain jokes. the ladies at the gym say I should get the abs. I have been flat chested my whole life. I bought bra’s in the kids section and couldn’t get a nursing bra in my size when I breast fed. This should be interesting. I am 49 now do I really need to do this? Probably not, but I think I am going to because if I am getting one thing done might as well go for it and do all the pain at once. Hubby is worried about another major surgery but is supportive of what ever I decide. has anyone had all three of these procedures done? The tummy tuck would involve muscle reconstruction and liposuction on sides. What should I do with my belly button? I feel like it is already missing. 😂 -
So the original "keto" as developed in the 60s and 70s by Dr. Atkins was much lower than todays' present iteration of the diet. For a normie Keto Diet based on Atkins 72, most fat % were in the 60-75% range. When I followed it as a normie, I had to be between 55-65% fat in order to lose the best. Most of the LCHF/keto docs agree that the amount of fat in your diet entirely depends on the amount of adiposity on your body. That means, that even with a keto diet, you still must operate in a caloric deficit so that you burn the fat stores in your body rather than the fat in your diet for energy. And for the most part, you must expend the energy from your diet before you tap into your fat stores. As @AZhiker and @KarenLR75 say, there is no need to inflate our fat to "today's keto" range. For most of us PO, it would be difficult due to surgical malabsorption. Even VSGers can have difficulty with higher fat. By simply reducing carbs to 20g net or below per day and putting your personal prescription for protein into the equation (given to you by your surgeon), then you can back into your target calorie goal and figure out your fat grams/percentage based on that. Any additional fatty acids you need (and the ketones produced through lipolysis) will then be able to come from the fat strapped to your booty and middle (and total body) rather than the fat bomb or MCT oil, or butter coffee -- or whatever ridiculous bolus of exogenous and unnecessary "keto bs" you consume. I knew that in order to lose I needed to maintain a range between 650-850 calories/day. I know, because when I got to 850 calories or above, I would stall out and not lose anything. I also knew from my surgeon and RD that I had a broad protein range (in the early days) of between 60-80g protein daily--with an optimal amount at 74g for my LBM and are based upon height, sex, age, physical status. Males and females of a different size will have different macros. Here are the macros I've used to lose 157lbs:

Intermittent Fasting Daily Menu/Results/Accountability
Sheribear68 replied to FluffyChix's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Pretty much the same here. I think AZhiker’s needs aren’t good for OMAD bc of the intense training which requires much more protein than those of us not in that kind of intense training I’ve done OMAD 3-4 times (depending on how strictly you want to define it) The main reason I tried was to experiment with a little bit of everything so I could know what kind of stuff works/doesn’t work. When I OMAD (and I did it today) I still take my vitamins in the morning. I have both chewable and regular capsules so I do the swallow ones (with no added carbs) during the fasting phase and I do my chewable probiotic and iron when I’m eating. Also, I had 8 ounces beef bone broth with some sea salt in it around 2pm. I consider this not to be breaking fast, but I know that a lot of purists will not agree with me. So I got home tonite and had dinner around 7pm— 24.5 hours past when I’d started eating dinner last night. I extended dinner into a couple small meals and I had a protein shake with my calcium chews initially and then about an hour later I had a few meatballs and ricotta cheese. Skipped the salad because there would’ve simply not been room. Didn’t get in quite 500 calories, but I did get in over 50g, protein so I’m thrilled with it. As I’m winding down post-shower, I’m about to have my probiotic and iron chews. -

Haven’t posted here much lately bc I’ve been having chicken or pork and salad about 80% of the time. Here however is my lunch from yesterday. Are every bite -
Well feel stupid now that I posted that. Looking back to the first time. It had been a busy day and that was my first time that I sat down that day and ate something. Today same thing. Not a “meal”. So I’ve answered my own question. Bc this has only happened those two times and they were both days I got too busy to sit down and eat a meal u til later. Usually I’m really good about it. Well there ya go. No way to take down a post huh?

I put this on here bc I’m on maintenance too. I’m 14 mos post op.
