What to eat day 6 Post Op please help
zobee replied to CHERITCH's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It depends on your doctor's orders. I was still on Clear liquids on day six, so it was pretty much broth for me, I'm afraid. Day seven was full liquids, and tomato Soup never tasted so good! Day fourteen was mushies. That opens up quite a few options. Scrambled eggs are a good source of Protein, as is cottage cheese and yogurt. Just make sure you're following your doctor's orders for your post op diet. You don't want to push yourself too fast. Good luck! -
Help I got piles. Do not know what to eat.
WASaBubbleButt replied to fofo's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Four hours? Great! I learn something new every single day here. I've not heard of anyone having success that fast so it's good to know YMMV! It's a different kind of fiber product and for that reason it can take a bit of time to work but I'm glad to know that it can work quickly. That's great. BTW, how are you doing with the new band? Everything going well for you? -
What kind of complications did you encounter with the band? No surgical complications. What kind of side effects do you deal with on a regular basis? PBing, but that only happens if I eat too fast, lol. What side effects did you have that went away with time? None. Would you do the operation again even with the problems encountered? yes, absolutely. Do a search on thread by donali, who had her band removed, and by DeLarla, who had her port removed. There's others, but those are the ones that stick out most in my mind. A girl named Erin recently had her port removed, but for the life of me I can't remember her screenname here.

Ketosis and Blood Sugars for the Diabetic
HotButterFly replied to tonydepalma's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Tony, I'm at a loss just as you are. Have you tried fat-fasting for 2-3 days? -
There are three classifications of slips: (a) Pouch dilation above the band. This happens when people eat too fast on a chronic basis. This leads to reflux and heartburn, as do all of the slips ( Pouch dilation with slip. The pouch dilates, as it dilates it pulls up stomach above the band. This is the most common type of slip that we deal with © Pure slip. Easiest surgically to deal with- happens when something gets stuck and people try to force it out. Slips are a complicated topic - and they are best avoided by (a) Not having the band too tight ( not eating too fast food goes through the band quickly- or we hope quickly. If it stays above the band for too long it can cause problems. We have more on our site at azlapband.com/blog -- hope you find the information helpful there.

Thinking and researching the lap band
Alexra replied to cindyn's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
my first fill could have been as soon as 6 weeks post op, however, I was losing weight fine and didn't have a fill until 12 weeks. Even after that fill I had little restriction and kept losing weight. I had my second fill in November, had a bit more restriction and my last fill was in January and I think I have enough restriction.... could I use more, sure, however I'd rather be comfortable and losing slowly rather than PBing all the time and losing fast. -
Letting Muscles Rest/recover Between Workouts...
massindex replied to BKMama's topic in Fitness & Exercise
So this isn't an easy answer. There are several types of muscles, most notably fast twitch and slow twitch muscles. Fast twitch muscles are for explosive utilization like jumping, sprints and powerlifting heavy weights. Generally, these muscles require more time to recover between workouts. The slow twitch muscles are designed for endurance activities like jogging and they take less time to recover. Also, the more intense your workouts are, the more time you need for recovery. Your list of activites look like they geared to fast twitch muscles which means longer recovery periods are required. If anything, I'd take your Thursday activity (Zumba) and move it to a slow twitch activity like jogging or walking. That's my take... -
I work in the school system so I am with Kids everyday, all day. Heres the problem.........THE STOMACH FLU. AGGG yes the kids are starting to get sick and you know how fast the stomach ful gets past around. I am scared to death to get it. I am afraid to throw up like that. I talked to a friend that has been banded for about 2 1/2 yrs and she say she hasn't gotten sick since she has been banded so had no advice. What do you all suggest. I know all about "Washing my hands" but when you are helping students you can't help but be right down near there faces and germs get pasted. I just dont want to vomt ( sorry about that) and have my band slip!!!!!!!!

I"m almost 3 yrs out and I still have a hard time eating slowly. I learned to eat fast in Army basic training. If you didn't eat within 5 mins, you didn't eat. I've never lost that.. My husband constantly reminds me to slow down. I make the mistake of waiting till Im starving, so I wolf it down. Small utensils may help the bite size, but not how fast you eat. You have to control this. Over the last over 2 yrs, I vomit frequently from eating too fast. It finally caused a slip recently. So I try really hard to slow it down. Good luck to u Marci

Hey I was banded yesterday by Dr. Sim's in Waco, TX I had surgery at 7:30AM and I was in recovery around 9:00AM and went to my room at providence around 9:30AM. I never knew what hit me once in surgery. However I can say that I really hurt today and my stomach is just growling big time too! But I only desire the liquid diet at the moment. I did find out that if your not having the gastric bypass then things at the hospital are different than it states in the Patient Manual at least it was for me. I was really disappointed. The 4th floor is not just for Bariatric/Lap Band patients it is for all having surgery. Whe you have the foot pumps on well good luck when having to get them off to go to the bathroom. I was not able to bed forward so I had to wait on someone to come and help me and well after an hour of waiting last night to go to the bathroom and yes the dam was ready to break someone finally came in to help me. I was told if you had bariatric surgery not the lap band then you get 2 nurses and 2 assistants per patient if you had the lap band you get who ever you can get. Now Dr. Sims was vary nice and professional I seen him 3 times before going home. He seems to be a very nice person and I was glad to have had him as my Dr. I cannot wait for my first fill. I passed the fast food resturant test this evening while waiting for my perscription at be filled at Walmart my hubby and I went and sat down in McDonalds he ate a fish sandwich and I just sat there, trust me I had no desire to eat it much less smell it. Well good luck with your up coming surgery. Sharon

So I am 14 days post op. I have been able to eat anything and it does not bother my stomach at all. I feel like I can eat more then I should. Still a small amount but more than I think I should. I'm still only getting maybe 500 calories a day maybe more depending on the day. Can anyone tell me their story about feeling as if they can eat more then or basically whatever I want. Within reason don't get me wrong. I puree things and I can drink pretty fast. Ughh Sent from my SM-N920V using the BariatricPal App

Supervised diet 4 insurance approval & losing weight!
HoustonTexanFan posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have been currently completing my insurance requirements for approval to get sleeve. I'm doing the 6 month supervised diet program now an I'm losing weight fast. If I loose to much weight will I still be able to have wls? Don't they go by your initial weight? I've lost weight before with diets but the weight always comes back worse! I would rather get the surgery for the long term affect. -

Starting This Journey....
dwbrown1978 replied to dwbrown1978's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Thank you for the very nice replies. A quick update.... Met with the surgeon on Friday 8/31. He said I was about 75% there already which was nice, but there were still a few things I needed to do before he could schedule my surgery date. I needed a x-ray of my chest, some blood work and schedule at least one appt. with a nutritionist, and have a psch/mental health eval done. Since yesterday was a holiday, I had to wait until this morning, but I have everything scheduled for this week and next week. Also my doctor called this morning and asked me to get a ultrasound. I was able to schedule that too. Whew! The pre-op diet consists of 7 day liquid Protein fast, which doesn't seem so bad. I have certainly done those in the past, so I don't think I will have too hard a time with that. Keep on keeping on..... -
Yes. You will get to the point that you can almost wrap your fingers around it. Some people lose so much fat around it that they have to have it reseated deeper or moved to another location. I never had it moved but I understand that it's a fast/easy surgery that often happens in MDs office.

UPDATE: I am scheduled for a port revision surgery Monday the 29th *this Monday* They worked on getting me in there fast. They said it will only take about half an hr. They are not even knocking me all the way out. They are giving me a heavy sedation and numbing me. I hope that works and I don't wake up and feel it all I was charged 2,000.00. That was for the sedation and the use of the facility. I will be posting and letting everyone know how it goes.

20 days out and not losing?
☠carolinagirl☠ replied to kandj2005's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
to gain actual/true weight is to eat more calories than one burns off... 3500 calories is a pound ate or drank.......and if you dont know or believe, but if one loses inches, they are losing weight regardless of what the scale says or dont say..(no matter which WLS one has) scale goes up and down all day long........you are way toooo focused on that what you should focus on is healing, learning how to eat better foods (when that phase arrives) and last but not least, understand, you wont lose it all over night...if you cant be positive now, while losing sorta fast on liquids what will you do when it does really slow down?? give up? bit* , p*iss, moan??? NO, you keep doing the right thing and let the band, or any wls work and we help by doing our part...its a day in and day out process.. -

Well, Howdy!!!! LittleBird, it's only 4 days away to a banded you. I feel your excitement!! Try not too worry to much, everything will be okay. They'll give you a dose of the "GOOD" stuff. This will put you to sleep. It will creep up on you so fast you won't feel a thing. It's like a really good drink you know like a Long Island ice tea times 2. If you don't drink then imagine laughing so hard you pass out? Before you know it you'll be awake and ready to go home. My doctor had me stay overnight just to have someone watch over me. But what I really hated was all the med students coming around feeling on my stomach. They woke me from the best sleep I've gotten in days. Well, except there was this red head. I think he was playing undercover. He checked me once the day of my surgery. Then he came back the next morning at 4:30am and then again at 4:40am. I don't think he wanted to rub on my stomach for his health. Yeah, yeah, I know they have to check for swelling. But really he just wanted a piece of Mohka to take home. LOL. I don't mind, take me away. Just wheel me in my bed to your house. (kidding) You will want to have someone there with you. My mom's a nurse so it was good to have her there. She woke me up every hour until midnight to do the breathing exercises. I was told to do them once ever hour. But when you are a sleep (which you will be doing a lot of) I thought that didn't count. WRONG!!!! I had to apologize for cutting and rounding my eyes and whining. I have a reason.... It was the drugs. Take it easy. P.S Washington as in the movie... Sleepless in Seattle? I love rainy weather. byebye -
Solids already? I know every doctor is different, but nothing I read advised solids in the first week. My f/u is Monday, and I'll be able to move onto runny oatmeal and grits. Check with your doctor to be sure you are not moving too fast.

Sample Meals, I posted some and Need Ideas please!! Thanks!!
Mim replied to 2KpUpwithAvery's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My favorite meal is actually a cooking method, not a particular food -- my George Foreman Grill. Everything comes out crispy on the outside, moist and tender on the inside. Some of my favorites are salmon, tilapia, cod, chicken, hamburgers, zucchini, broccoli, carrots. Nothing takes more than 10 minutes to cook. It's been a life-saver that's prevented more than one trip out for "fast-food" when I'm tired.
