Everyone has the three week stall... or almost. It's normal for our body to say "Hey, wait a minute here!" and take a break from losing... and it doesn't only happen at 3 weeks. I've had a couple of stalls in 9 months, and one spot where my weight loss was incredibly slow. BUT, and it's a big But, during the stalls is when I've lost inches and sizes. I walked out of my pants during my first stall, and I've watched my body reshape itself literally during the last 3 months of super slow weight loss (compared to weight lost at the beginning). Just this morning I noticed that my tummy has changed shape completely in the last few weeks. Keep to your plan during the stalls. Eat your Protein and drink your Water. Change up your exercise and either add or remove something. I changed from the recumbent bike to the elliptical and I'm going to add in the arc (killer elliptical) in a few days, just for some variety. Most importantly, ditch that lying scale from your brain. Take your measurements and then re-take them when you feel like you're stalled. Watch the inches come off your body and enjoy living this new life and journey that we're all taking. Good luck! I know you're going to do fine!

"slow Losers" And Long Term Results?
nikki264 replied to Carly's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would consider myself to be a "slow loser". I am 13.5 weeks out, and am down 51lbs. I had the typical three week stall, but have now been sitting, (actually bouncing between 252-256 - started at 304), for the last two weeks. I expected the stall with TOM, but hopped it would go away after, and it has yet to do so. While it is frustrating, I know it will break eventually. My body is still adjusting from this major surgery, and things will be whacky for a bit. I saw my surgeon and NUT a month ago, and they both say I'm doing great and already consider me a success story...that's nice to hear from a doctor! I to am of the belief that we didn't get this done to be on a diet forever. I had this done so that I could be a normal, healthy person. If I'm craving something, I'm going to have it. Obviously, with the restriction our lovely tool provides us, it's awfully hard to over-indulge, (at least, I find it to be so). I try to maintain a healthy balance. I don't restrict my carbs, or fat, etc. I make sure that I'm getting all of my Protein in each day, and once that's done, I'll allow myself a treat. I'm ok with my steady, slow loss. -
Stall? Only Two Weeks Out?
emily_0192010 replied to Lisa's Hope's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh yes!! It is actually extremely normal... you hit the "three week stall". It sucks, but it happens. I believe it is just your body's way of dealing with the all the changes. You will break out of it! In the meantime, focus on your water, protein and vitamins and don't worry about the scale (well, try not to!) -
I am wondering and I bet a few others might be too but.... I have seen it common for a rather large group of us to experience the "three week stall" (right after surgery) - but are there any other common stall times that commonly occur during the post sleeve journey?
-
The reason that the last part is harder has to do with the amount of energy you expend with your current exercise or normal routines and your current weight vs. when you were 200 - 180. Someone that weights 250 uses up more calories per minute than someone that weights 150 doing the exact same thing. If every single day you do the same routine, walk a mile, 3, 5 or 10, it becomes the norm. Something usually has to change for the last push and of course you know that there's not just a "three week stall" there are continual stalls. How about switch up your exercise routine, if you usually walk or ride a bike, try step aerobics with weight training, get a tape like The Firm. Sometimes something as easy as switching your routine will help move it along. More muscle you have the more fat you burn. I haven't had surgery yet, but I've been through this myself. I used to run 10 miles a day, lift weights, do aerobics and kick box before I got sick and regained all my weight back. Good luck and hopefully the last 25 will melt off

Vsg & Hiatal Hernia Repair
emily_0192010 replied to pamr's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hello I'm glad to hear you are doing well!! I also had a hiatal hernia repaired during my operation and didn't find out until my follow-up visit! I'm not sure if it made my recovery harder or not. Apparently it is very, very common! I also agree that wearing something tight actually helps in some ways. Once my incisions weren't sore themselves (just general soreness) I wore a spanx-like thing all the time. I still wear it! Immediately after surgery I wore one that was technically a size or two too big, that way it held me in but didn't add pressure. Good luck on not stepping on the scale! It is very tempting at first! Also, be prepared just in case you hit the "three week stall". Totally normal, but it can still hurt to see it. If you do hit it, just remember "Water, Protein, vitamin" and try not to dwell on the number! -

Lose A Pound Only To Gain A Pound. Frustrated
Newfoundlove replied to nikki82's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm three weeks out and my NUT told me not to be surprised if I hit a stall about this time. Therefore, I'm not getting on the scale until next Friday. Do a search on this forum for Three Week Stall and you'll see other posts about this. They can last a week or two apparently. -
Oh, Neva, Everyone hits that three week stall. Yours may have come early since you have a lower BMI than a lot of us. Just keep looking for those NSVs and the SVs will follow right along! You're doing great!!!

Haven't Lost Weight My First Week..
BenisaMartim4 replied to jaymzee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
They pumped 10-12 pounds of IV fluid in me while I was in the hospital. It took me more than a week to just get back to the weight that I was when I went in. I also had the three week stall and IVs 6 more times, so my early weight loss was a constant roller coaster ride! You'll be fine, don't stress it. Don't want to lose those fluids too fast or you'll end up like me; with a needle in your arm every other day -
27Ibs Loss After 4 Whole Months...feeling Horrible!
andi0120 replied to Mizz Diva's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My pounds loss isn't great either i was sleeved on 2-29-12 but i have lost a ton of inches. My doc says because i don't have as much weight to lose I'm not going to lose as fast. My NUT has me eating 1/4 cup of food 5 times per day. My protein should be at 80 but I haven't mastered that yet. I'm also required to do 60 minutes of exercise 6 days per week. I started off walking but have since joined the YMCA. Now I have much better variety and love water exercises. My doc says if I'm not drenched in sweat at the end of a workout i didn't work hard enough. So maybe, you just need to change some things. Good luck just got off a three week stall so i understand. i also love to compare pictures don't let the scale discourage you -
Guess I've Hit The Dreaded Stall Already
Pennie replied to CHELL's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Your doctor was sad about 9 pounds in 10 days?!?!??! WTH??? OK, let me tell you something... a week after surgery, I was still the same weight as the day of surgery. I was so pumped full of fluids in the hospital that I came home weighing more than when I went in! So it wasn't until a week after surgery that I even finally began to lose weight. I definitely hadn't lost 9 lbs in the first 10 days. I think some surgeons try these tactics to "motivate" patients to lose weight and stick with the plan. The reality is that you've lost 15 lbs in 19 days since surgery, and that is REALLY great! Stalls do happen. They suck. I had a three week stall early out from surgery, even though I was following all the rules. You just gotta keep on working through them. You are doing great! Hang in there! -
So Very Annoyed! Not Losing
Pennie replied to kwindham's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You've lost 24 pounds in just over three weeks! That is 100% incredible. Your averge is still over a pound a day! I know when you lose really fast, it is easy to develop the expectation that this is the way it will always be. In reality, most sleevers do stall from time to time. I had a three week stall just weeks after surgery. It was frustrating, for sure. Just keep following all the rules laid out for you, and trust that the scale will begin to move again. Trust me, it will! After losing so much weight so quickly, it isn't suprising that your body is taking a little break. Hang in there, you are doing fantastic! -
The best way to get the scale moving is diet, exercise, and patience. Nearly all of us hit the three week stall (give or take a week). Believe me, you have no where to go from here but down. :-)
-
Never fear. You've hit whats commonly known as the "3 week stall". During this week to two week period, you will see very little to no weightloss but you'll start seeing INCHES come off you. There are numerous posts on here about the three week stall you can search and read on. Just have to wait it out and keep doing what the doctor told you. I lost two pant sizes during my 3 week stall. So keep an eye on the inches!

Checking in....still having no issues at all from surgery which is a blessing. I had the dreaded three week stall but it has finally broke and the scale dropped 6 pounds since then. Whew. I am down 21 pounds since surgery and 44 pounds over all. I am so glad I did this and only wish I had done it sooner.

As someone said the three weeks stall happens to almost everybody I'm 3 weeks out as well and I've been reading how important it is to try to increase your calorie intake and keep on taking your protein shakes and water those are the keys to success. Harder for some than others. In my case I'm feeling great but I avoid the scale because I know we're all curious but I'm trying my hardest to do it once a month 2 the most because it happens to all of us at some point. Down worry it will get better

More Water, less walking time. You definitely need to get in your Protein, water and some calories, but you're having a couple of issues. One, you're in the classic three week stall. Search for it here, you'll see that almost everyone has this issue. Two, muscle weighs more than fat and walking 2 miles a day definitely builds muscle. So, you're actually doing a good thing with the walking. It also will boost your metabolism and help prevent sagging skin down the road. Patience is the number one thing we all have to learn. Don't weigh yourself every day and enjoy the journey! That last one I'm learning from other posters here, like FavoredOne. It's a great lesson to aspire to learn.

The scale can be so aggravating! Stalls happen, whether you've already had the sleeve surgery or not. I had a THREE WEEK stall just weeks after my sleeve surgery. It was so disheartening because I was eating 650 cals a day, following all the rules and the scale just wouldn't budge. You can try changing things up a bit - changing your exercise routine, increasing Protein even more, increasing Water... even adding another 100 calories to your daily intake may shake things up. BUT, I think it is far better advice to just keep following your diet plan "rules" and trust that the scale will eventually start moving. Anyone that thinks weight loss is as simple as a calories in/calories out formula has never been significantly overweight and dieted! There are SO many variables that can make an impact on the scale - water weight, hormones, muscles, stress, etc. If you stick to your plan, at least you know you are doing everything you can. It'll move. I promise! Hang in there. Your body might just be in a bit of a shock (or state of stress) due to the change to the liquid diet. As a result, you may have a lot of water weight. It'll pass... literally lol! You'll probably drop a couple of pounds overnight. (((HUGS))) I seriously think the pre-op diet is the hardest part of the journey. You are doing great! Good luck!!

3 Week Stall ( Frustrated)
chitowngirl replied to tonyrizz's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I'm also at my three week stall for the last week and a half. It's annoying, however it does come with the territory. I am just trying to be patient and learn how to snap out of these stalls. Best of luck. Have faith that we will make it passed these stupid stalls. -
To you seasoned sleevers....how long do the stall's last?? and do they happen frequently? Is this something I can learn to expect??
-
I have just finished my three week stall. I started peop at 293. 285 day of surgery and was at 263 untill today. I have been working and eating mostly what I was told to. I am a nurse and have been thinking about this. I think part of the stall comes from our body being in starvation mode and conserving any calories we consume. The othere is we have completely emptied out our GI tract with the prepped cleanse and liquids. So as our intestines fill with waste it will add weight. Untill start having regular bowel movements. The reason to increase calories is to get your body out of starvation mode. Also need to increase water intake to wash awaw all the biproducts. Just keep doing what u are I dropped 3.5 lb in 2 days as hard as I try I can't go a week with out checking the scale I know I should not. Hope this helps.

3 Weeks In Surgery - Weight Is Stalled
MzPecanBrown replied to hgor's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's completely normal and happens to most of us. Search for "Three Week Stall" on the site and you'll find tons of info. Personally, I stalled for almost 4 weeks during my 2nd month. It drove me CRAZY but I was relieved to know that it is just a part of the process. -
Am I Considered A Slow Loser?
happy1957 replied to EmilyIsSleeved's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I too am a slow loser, but so far I have lost consistently each week with the exception of the famous three week stall that lasted 3.5 weeks. My surgery was 12-28-11, I have lost 29 lbs since my surgery and that includes the pre- liquid diet. Most people think I've lost much more. So far the skin is pretty good considering I'm and old lady. I have always been a slow loser, have less than some to lose and have age against. It came on slow, so I will be patient. I see huge life changes already. At to months I was afraid my Dr would be upset, she was elated, also counted the weight I lost prior to surgery and thought percentage wise I was ahead of schedule. I had feared her reaction and she actually made me feel so successful. Keep up the good work!
