    Seeking Buddies 5'2" & Under

Hey all, I'm 5'2", and sleeved 07/23/15. I'm at four weeks post-op in two days. I haven't been losing any weight since the first week. I started at a BMI of 34 (176.5 lbs), and lost 12 lbs pre-op )2 week diet), and 12 lbs since surgery. Any of you with low BMI experience such long stalls (almost 3 week stall here) Thanks!!

    Any March Sleevers?

Only lost 2 pounds this past week its that's "3 week stall" everyone talks about. 18 lbs total. That doesn't sound like a lot to me for what I've been through and for how little im eating. I know it will keep coming off and 18 pounds is actually good for 3 weeks. Its my rational vs my emotional. The GREAT thing, however, is that I can't just say "screw it" and eat myself into oblivion like I could pre op. And I know that it'll come off. One way or another, fast or slow...it WILL come off. I just need to be patient, get the protein and water in, and start exercising more!!

Hey lovely ladies! Ok so I'm so naughty I had a very little bit of skinny girl Cosmo mix tonight two sips and I was tipsy but omg I have been abused today! So I asked on two Facebook "support" groups how long people waited until they had a drink and hoe far out I was and that I was considering a drink not bottles just one teeny weeny drink and this one chick told me off!!! But before that I called the emergency line at lap surgery and then Mchenry called me back and he went off tap at me had me in tears! I get that it's for energencies and mine was a general question but they didn't tell me when I was discharged if I could or could not drink! So then hubby calls him back and let's him have it! Then hr apologised for bring such an ass. I said to him they never told me and that on discharge I was allowed to call and ask in fact they preferred if I called and asked instead of doing things that might damage me so aren't I better off calling before I make a mistake instead of u telling me to figure it out on Monday! Like wtf!!!!! Nasty!!!! I get it's for life threatening things but seriously to be yelled at I kid u not he yelled at me my jaw dropped!!!! Seriously I'm so dissppointed i know maybe it was trivial but I found out through MY OWN RESEARCH later of course that it can give u an ulcer and some people say wait 6 weeks some say 6 months some say 1 year like how am I supposed to know! Anyway he said that a few sips is ok after we had a 15 minute arguement he could have savec himself and me a lot of heartache if he just answered the question. I now feel like absolute crap that he spoke to me like that and then I got attacked on FB too seriously! Btw the drink I had was amazing u drank about 100ml over like 3 hours or something so it's ok I think! But I don't know.... I'm so glad I have u guys I can vent to I'm sorry for going on do much but thank u for listening!!!! So today I hit 119.6 kg on my scale when I'm naked so happy days!!! I'm coming up to this 3 week stall so I think it's time to work out on the cross trainer oh and I haven't walked in 2 days I went back to work today but I'm at a desk job and sitting for a long time made me sore so might have to take some painkillers to work on Monday!!!! On the number 2 I think I should be more diligent with my fibre right now I feel a bit lost... Chez have u started pre opp? How are u feeling?
  4. With such a huge calorie deficit, we are tricking our bodies into thinking we are starving. We go into ketosis where our body starts shutting down and our metabolic rate falls. It registers there are limited carbohydrates and fuel to burn and initially stops everything in an effort to save our lives! That's why that 3 week stall is so predictable and happens to everyone. Our body then starts using up our extra fat storage for fuel. When ketosis happens, it throws off the whole input/output theory. You may follow the program to the tee one week and not see weight loss at all as your body is trying to keep you alive! Eventually it starts to shift and this is where patience comes into play. Slow and steady. The weight will come off. Just focus on developing new lifestyle habits that will continue after this honeymoon phase of wls ends 6months to a year out. Eventually we will be able to eat anything again and as I'm already learning it's easy to rack up calories once you introduce normal food in your diet. Using my loseit app on my phone has been key for me.

march sleevers the good and the bad

I just posted my before and during picture to my profile here for anyone who is interested... The pic difference represents 59 pounds lost from when I first booked my surgery date. For the month of March I've lost 21 pounds. 7 pounds during the two weeks preop and 14 since my surgery on March 13th. I'm THRILLED with my March loss even though I know that there are some who lose much more.. but I've been on 800 calories a day since the beginning of December so I didn't expect super dramatic results! I'm pretty sure I'm entering a stall now. My weight loss pattern historically always includes 2-3 week stalls followed by big losses so I'll just have to ride it out!
  6. Hello everyone, I'm a 34 yo young woman who is very grateful for this forum. I can't tell you all what a great support group this is. I have spent hours and hours and hours here reading posts and finding answers to my questions. Thank you for being here. I'm day 73 post op. I feel like i'm not losing as much as i should be, but i've found myself not exercising as much as i should be. I'm trying to make a commitment to myself to do so so that i can do this the right way. After a 3 week stall, i want that weight to come off! Thanks for listening and hello to all. 01.01.2010 Highest weight 289 03.18.2010 Day of surgery 262 05.29.2010 Current weight 217 Dr. Van Wagner in St. Louis, MO at St Alexius Hospital
  7. I am just at 4 weeks and had that 3 week stall that lasted 6 days. Finally started dropping again. I had mw follow up with the surgeon yesterday and am now cleared to do more than walking for exercise. I am anxious to see the effects of gym visits on my loss.

    September bypass buddies??

I hope we both start losing again so! Hopefully this is just a small bump in the road. I try to stay positive. I guess i am just having a bad day. I did find this article that made me feel a little better about the 3 week stall. https://www.mybariatricdietitian.com/mbd-blog/the-3-week-stall-after-weight-loss-surgery
  10. I had a 3 week stall myself. Then I'd lose a cpl and put 1 back on! What?! Lol. Finally down to just losing and consistently again. Down 47 total since surgery on 4-20 (23 pre opp) and first day back to work today. Sent from my SM-G900T using the BariatricPal App

    Any December 30th Sleevers ?!

Alrighty. It's been 4 days without seeing much change on the scale. I've stalked the bulletin boards enough to have read about the mysterious 3 week stall but didn't expect it at 2.... At first I thought it was because things weren't moving through and miralax and prune juice assured me that wasn't the problem. I started looking for more "sciency" reasons other than some magic weight loss elf taking the 3rd week off. This is the best sciency reason I could find. I found this http://bariatricfacts.org/threads/the-three-week-stall.743/ - A nice lady named Diana Cox wrote that: A "stall" at this point is inevitable, and here is why. Our bodies use glycogen for short term energy storage. Glycogen is not very soluble, but it is stored in our muscles for quick energy -- one pound of glycogen requires 4 lbs of Water to keep it soluble, and the average glycogen storage capacity is about 2 lbs. So, when you are not getting in enough food, your body turns first to stored glycogen, which is easy to break down for energy. And when you use up 2 lbs of glycogen, you also lose 8 lbs of water that was used to store it -- voila -- the "easy" 10 lbs that most people lose in the first week of a diet. As you stay in caloric deficit, however, your body starts to realize that this is not a short term problem. You start mobilizing fat from your adipose tissue and burning fat for energy. But your body also realizes that fat can't be used for short bursts of energy -- like, to outrun a sabertooth tiger. So, it starts converting some of the fat into glycogen, and rebuilding the glycogen stores. And as it puts back the 2 lbs of glycogen into the muscle, 8 lbs of water has to be stored with it to keep it soluble. So, even though you might still be LOSING energy content to your body, your weight will not go down or you might even GAIN for a while as you retain water to dissolve the glycogen that is being reformed and stored.

    September surgery buddies!!

I have been good and trying not to weigh myself every day but today I got on the scale after 4 days of not looking and my weight did not go down, it actually went up .2. I just got done with a 3 week stall 2 weeks ago and mentally I am having a really hard time dealing with possibly being in another one. Its so hard to stay positive when you work hard to do everything as right as you can and then it feels like you are failing. I can't just stay off the scale because I need to know if I'm in a stall so I can at least try things to help but being in a stall is the worst thing ever. I have been hitting all of my goals, have increased my exercise a little bit, not drastically. As in I walk 30 min instead of 24 on the treadmill. I have been trying to do my strength exercises, but not with any actual weights, just my own arms. So its not likely to be an exercise and muscle gain equaling me out. I have been on the low end of my water and calories so I'll increase both but honestly if I was just on a regular diet right now, I would just give up. I'm glad I can't give up really, so I'm appreciative of the surgery but still sad.
  13. Your weight may fluxuate throughout your weight loss honeymoon. Keep in mind that there may well be swelling, water weight, and overall body confusion about what just happened. Use your logic.. if your eating 500 cals a day, your not gaining "fat" weight. At three weeks, or there about , there is something called the 3 week stall... many people just stop losing for around 3 weeks, for me it was closer to 5. Just breath, it will pass, stay on track and the rest will take care of itself. This topic is addressing what happens after the honeymoon is over. Statisticly, most weight is re-gained after 3 years out (but can be earlier...) and this post addresses that phase of the "journey".
  14. Uve probably hit the dreaded 3 week stall. I'm 3 weeks out today. Stuck at 248. Although I'm weighing everyday so seeing stalls more often. Are u weighin everyday? I know I'm the pot calling the kettle black but try to weigh every week instead, probably will never see a stall

    September surgery buddies!!

I weigh myself every day and the scale has not really moved in the last 4 days. So I might be in the dreaded 3 week stall. I think that you can gain weight even with the low calories but I don't think its fat, I think its water weight or constipation. Eventually your body will get the clue and let go and you will see the scale move. I would call your dietitians though and let them look over your food log and see if they have any suggestions. My dietitians said usually the stalls are caused by either not enough calories, low protein or not taking vitamins. But I would talk to your team and see what they think. It should at least help your anxiety and give you some input from the experts. Good luck!

    ❤JULY 2019 CHALLENGE❤

I'm on board too... June has been kind of hit and miss for me. The 3 week stall really got in my head and, combined with other unpleasant post op stuff, I sort of lost focus. I need to get myself recentered and up my activity level. I'm hopeful that the stall is maybe busted and that the scale will start moving again. And while I don't have the equipment to do all the exercises listed, my arms need a lot of work. Me in a nutshell: RnY mid-May 2019 Current weight: 215.8lb July Goals: Walk 5km (using nordic walking poles) five days a week Do arm workouts/photo challenge daily Participate in Camp NaNo (a creative writing challenge... 25000 words in 31 days) Look super-awesome at my hubs' high school reunion
  17. I went to my nutritionist this afternoon. I'm 17 days post op and down 15.5lbs, but no movement on the scale in days. In spite of everything I've read about the 3 week stall I can't help but get worried. She is a lovely woman--but blunt! She said "Knock it off. Your body will release the weight when it's ready. You will not stay at 228.8 forever. It will come off." Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    one month post op

I've just come through a 3 week stall..it isn't fun! At surgery 119 kg First 2 week Post op 116 .. by 6 weeks it was 112 kg then a stall Of 3 weeks so frustrating ( it was only the fact that clothes were getting looser that stopped me having a melt down!!) Weigh in yesterday 111kg So hopefully??! I wonder how much age is a factor ( I'm 66) plus I loss about 15 kg in the year prior to surgery) Just trying to plod on and stay sane ( or sane-ish!) Good luck
  19. You need the water to keep you hydrated and to give the fat a vehicle to leave your body. Also, your body is traumatized... It might not want to work properly. Also search for 3 week stall.. Mini stall that happens in the third week... You might just be an early bloomer

Let's Check In November 2012 Sleevers!

Loose the scale!!! I had to as I was obsessed as well. Eating before bed isn't good either as you're metabolism slows way down when you sleep. Sounds like you aren't getting enough protein. Drink a protein shake. I had a 3 week stall and added protein and water and changed up my exercise everyday. I read that your body will get used to it and slow down. Also do some weight lifting. That will help your metabolism as well. My weight comes off slow some weeks and in chunks the next. Remember as long as the scale is going DOWN be happy!!! I set mini goals. Right now I am hoping to lose 10 by end if January. I am down 5 so if I can lose the next 5 then I am going to Good Will and look for new jeans????. And if I don't well I will shoot for it still and get the jeans when I get there. (I want to desperately be under 200 and this goal gets me there. What's your goal?

    African American Sleevers

Every thread I have read talks about the dreaded 3 week stall. It is the first of many. Your body is in major adjustment phase, trying to hold on thinking it's in starvation mode. Keep working the sleeve and you will see results. Don't stress because that's no good either. Never before had your body lost at this rate so be gentle and understanding with what it does. You will be a big loser! Lol
  22. I'm in the same boat. :/ I was sleeved on 3/31 and given the goal to lose 20-25 lbs per month. On surgery day, I weighed 330. The first month, I lost about 25 and then 10 the 2nd month and about 10 the 3rd. I went through the famous 3 week stall... and I bounce back and forth between 5lbs. It's frustrating. Unfortunately, my bariatric team is 2 hours north of me and I had to postpone my 3 month appt. I'm thinking I should check in with them and see what kind of advice they have for me. Just wanted to chime in that you're not alone.

Where Are My April 2012 Sleevers?

any one sleeved around the 24th I was ,and I have to know should i be worried. The first 12 days post op 20 pounds feel off. After that nothing. I have heard of the 3 week stall but i am now past 4 weeks and have gain 2lbs back. Am i doing something wrong ? I was given the go on solid foods this week and of course thats ok, I am averaging 400 calories a day and 50 grams of protein. I wasnt able to walk in week 3 due to a abcess and being in alot of pain when standing, anyone have any ideas to kick start the weight loss back up ? I really thought by now i would be down at least 30lbs.
