    Clothes?

I kept all of my size 18-22 clothes (size 14 since December). Hasn’t been that long, but I don’t yet have confidence that I can maintain the weight loss. I feel I can continue the healthy habits I’ve adopted, but my body has seemed out of control for so many years that I don’t know that it will continue to “make nice” with my new habits. That I can control what I eat, my sleep, activity, etc., but not how my body will respond as far as weight. I guess time will tell. But I did keep all my smaller clothes from around 2004 and was glad to wear the classic ones again!!

    Weight gain or standstill

OMG! I so needed to read this thread bc I gained 11lbs in the hospital and been discouraged every since!
  3. Hey! So I'm still hanging in there. Weight loss is still very slow. I'm down 42lbs it's a daily war seems like but I figure some progress is better than none. Sent from my SM-A716U using BariatricPal mobile app

When did you get back to exercise?

3 weeks out and I was cleared for low impact exercises. I like to do low impact walking exercise videos from growwithjo. I’m not cleared to lift weights until 2 months out which will be April 27. The first two weeks I walked a lot getting almost 10,000 steps each day and I am currently 26 pounds down.

    Too much protein

It depends on lab work. The tests can tell the surgeon/dietician how well your body is absorbing the protein. Some people for various medical reasons don't absorb protein well. It can also depend on which weight loss surgery you choose. The malabsorbtive type surgeries can cause you to not absorb protein/vitamins as well as before surgery. That's part of the reason follow up labwork is so vital to your success. So sometimes your protein/vitamins have to be tweaked.
  6. Thanks , that helps me understand some, I have a group meeting tonight and i’m going to ask the nutritionist if she knows anything about the reference to the prior weight loss from my previous wls.

Want to be a part of this site

agreed. It also depends on what you're asking. If you're asking how many carbs you should have or post that you're three weeks out and haven't lost any weight in a week, you'll get at least a dozen responses.

    Thinking about revision

it's done mostly for sleeve patients (usually for severe GERD that can't be controlled medically). They go back in there and convert it to an RNY (gastric bypass) or DS (duodenal switch). (NOTE: it's not common, but what I mean is, people who get revisions are usually sleeve patients) it's kind of rare to do a revision for a gastric bypass, because they have to reverse the whole thing and then do a sleeve or DS. Only a handful of surgeons in the country are qualified to do that particular surgery. I can't imagine converting from an RNY to a sleeve because the RNY is a more powerful surgery. But I've heard of some RNY patients revising to DS, which is even more powerful than the RNY. But again, it's a very complicated surgery, and very few surgeons do it (in these cases, it's usually done for greater weight loss, usually. I can't think of any medical reasons to do it other than further weight loss)
  9. Everyone is different... Everyone. Revision is something later later on for many end up with issues for example severe heart burn that do the sleeve. Just keep working at it... The weight will come off if you stick to the plan. you may loose more than others or less. your surgery was not that long ago so you still have a decent way to go.
  10. all those numbers you've cited are just averages. You could lose more or less than those, depending on your level of commitment. for example, the average weight loss with gastric bypass is 70% of the person's excess weight. That doesn't mean you, personally, are going to lose 70% of your excess weight. That's just the average - and with any average, you'll always find people who fall outside of that. We have people on here who only lose 20% of their excess weight- and others who lose 100%. It all comes down to your level of commitment. So I'd take those numbers you've been given or read with a grain of salt. Yes - they'll give you a ballpark idea - but they're only averages, and depending on how hard you work at this, you could do better..or worse...than those averages.
  11. Can somebody please help me….I’m reading so many different things on revision wls and I’m so confused! I know weight- loss is slower, but it’s been coming off pretty good for me so far (55lbs dwn) since Nov.8th. I’m stalling now for the 2nd week! (Frustrating, but expected). Where the confusing part is how much weight I should expect to loose, my doctor told me I should loose a 100lbs, but my research is stating something in the area of about 60-70lbs, but it’s also stating something about my weight-loss from my previous surgery(btw it was the sleeve). So if I’m to understand correctly I’m only going to loose a total of 100lbs ,including my weight-loss from previous wls? I’m so confused…

    Clothes?

I try to never throw the old clothes away. It is better to give them to someone you know or donate to organizations that need clothes for poor people. Also, you can cut them and make some new clothes or things from them. Or at least you can cut them into pieces and use them around the house as rugs. I did so with some of my old suits from https://www.gentlemansguru.com/. They were too loose for me after I lost weight. I just donated it to a local charity collecting clothes for different needs. For example, suppose nobody of their beneficiaries would take the clothes to wear themselves. In that case, the volunteer will cut them and make dolls or something else from them. I think it is a more proper use for an old piece of clothing rather than just being thrown away.

Not your target audience but I started off at 276 lbs and 4.5 months after gastric sleeve I'm overweight (rather than morbidly obese) for the first time in 10 years. Surgery is the only way to lose a significant amount of weight and have a good chance of keeping it off. I could not be happier with my choice to do this - only wish I had done it years ago!
  14. So my team green-lit everything at 1 month, including raw veggies, bread and alcohol. Had first raw veggies/salad around 2-3 months cuz until then, there was no room after getting my protein in. Went pretty uneventfully when i did. Bread I didn’t have (by choice) until well after weight loss phase and discovered harder, dryer bread went down much easier and in larger volumes than soft fluffy bread. Still the same now at 3.5 yes post. I do have bread on occasion these days. Regarding alcohol, i had like 2-3 sips of red wine at 3 weeks post. It burned a little and I swear i felt it travelling through my intestines. Next try was at around 2-3 months post with a soju/sake drink and i had one of my worst dumping experience ever. In all i must have had maybe 5 partial drinks in total during weight loss phase, and i got pretty tipsy/drunk each time (though I sobered up surprisingly quickly) Now though, I’m basically an alcoholic (at least according to the North American measure of it. Apparently women who consume >= 7 drinks per week are alcoholics. Soooo… *raises hand* 🤷🏻‍♀️ And yep, i smoke too (at least right now i am, i’ve been quitting and un-quitting for the last 2 years) MANDATORY DISCLAIMER: i am in no way advocating what i do for anyone else. You know your own limits and can choose as an autonomous adult whether you choose to stay within these limits or beyond them. …and…don’t judge me! Good Luck! ❤️

What do you guys think of this video?

Yeh it makes sense that your scale won't move much, so if one is focused on those numbers it may seem counterproductive. But when you build muscles, you still lose fat. It's just gained muscles balance it out hence scale stalls.

What do you guys think of this video?

Yeh I believe he exaggerated right there. Weight training doesn't need to be waited until you hit your normal BMI. But I believe he was making a point about post-Op diet and calorie deficit. A lot of us are on major calorie deficit until we hit our goal. So I wonder with such reduced calorie, is it enough to build muscles if there is sufficient protein intake of between 60 to 80g? 🤔

VSG to RNY - Not excited

To put less [apparently] catty. We each obviously have different requirements and situations. I had far, far, FAR more weight to lose, "Eating a full meal" obviously meant something very different to you than to me. I needed to change what "eating a full meal" meant. I wanted to change every last eating habit, other than my preferences for protein and cheese. I had people try to sell DS to me on much the same terms you use, "eat a full meal", "no restriction", etc. Honestly there was a large appeal to it, but I knew I could easily (EASILY) out eat any such surgery. You may have been sure you would never wake up and decide you wanted out. I wasn't so sure, as I knew my path wouldn't take months, but years to get to goal, if in fact I ever got near it. As I said, I had a long row to hoe. When I lost 200 pounds, it was a promising start. RNY's are often modified, not that I counted on nor cared about that option. I am every bit as enthusiastic about my choice and my reasons as you are yours. I was once even as evangelical as you are. I've mellowed, which surprises me somewhat. Good luck and continued success. Tek
  18. I was waved away from bread because it tends to ball up and plug the pouch, which I eventually learned first hand. I don't recall how long I waited, or waited after discovering the reasoning was true for me. I've since learned to sip a bit with bread to thin the resulting paste. Raw veggies, like salads? Never been much of a fan, so don't remember how long I left it alone, but I don't think it was an actual rule, at least not one I recall now. I eat the occasional salad, but not in normal rotation. Alcohol, I have to believe there was a prohibition of some length, but again, too long ago to recall the specifics. I don't believe I drank until I lost all my excess weight. I had pretty much abandoned alcohol years before surgery as I tended to binge, well, everything. I've had alcohol since surgery, it goes to my head quicker than pre-op, and if I drink over much the hangover hits quicker and ends quicker so by morning all effects have passed. I really only drink now on vacations with fruity drinks during the day and after dinner cognac. Good Luck, Tek

I was 363 and have lost 165 in 14 months after having gastric sleeve. I’m 64 and have had to work up to walking longer distances. I’m very happy with my results and plan to continue losing until I reach my goal weight of 150. It’s been hard work but doable. Good luck with your journey!
  20. I am - not "may be", am - biased, but there's no way MGB won't overtake RNY at some point. Higher weight loss, fewer complications, simpler surgery, easily revisable and reversible in study after study over a 25 year period.
  21. lots of people have done that revision. The thing is, like with VSG, you're going to have to change your habits and follow the program to lose the weight. The surgery will only take you so far. I lost a truckload of weight, but I worked really hard at it. And yes, the revision should at minimum improve, and will likely eradicate, the GERD. btw - weight loss is never as strong or quick with revisions as it is with virgin surgeries, but that said, there are people who've been very successful with revisions. If you are committed, you'll get there.
  22. I would like to think MGB would be an option, the surgeon is at Duke. With that said, he didn't mention it as an option. When I think 'mini,' I would assume that wouldn't be better for weight loss but I honestly don't know.
  23. Is MGB an option for you at that practice? The weight loss approaches DS, with fewer side effects, and there's a proven great effect with VSG-->MGB revisions. The DS revision wouldn't do anything for your reflux, so that'd be on borrowed time anyway. The MGB could solve it.

    September Surgery Buddies!!

Congratulations to you! Best wishes as you continue! I'm finding my 7th month has really slowed down with the weight loss, but I expected that. I figure it might take 6 more months to get the remaining pounds off -- unless I can find an additional hour to increase exercise!🏋️‍🚵‍♀️🤸‍♂️🤽‍♀️

    liquid diet :( lol

It's funny how treating people like adults make them behave like adults. E.g.: WARNING: DO NOT EAT ... on swimming pools in America. Edit: OP, best of luck. Remember the point is to lose weight to shrink your liver. It's all you need to do.
