    Plantar Fascaitis?

What a pain!!! I had this for years...my Dr. said my weight had little to do with it... he said he had never had a farmer with this condition... nurses, factory workers, teachers...folks on their feet, on concrete, with poor shoes...he recommends walking shoes..good ones~ the best help is exercise...get a 2X6 or a 2X8 about 3 feet long...place the ball of the feet on the edge, raise your self up on your tip toes and count to three, then drop your heels down to the floor and count to three...repeat about 10 times 3 times a day---- it took me about 3 months but I was back to normal ,,,they do surgery for this but I know another teacher in my building who had the surgery and she is still having trouble... I recommend doing the exercise and trying to get back on your feet that way.. it should have no effect on your surgery...it's just tendons and ligaments that are too tight... GOOD LUCK with your feet and surgery..if you work where you cant wear athletic shoes..get your dr to write you a note --- you can not get this to get better wearing dress shoes...that don't offer you good support!

    Frozen Meals

Congratulations!!! What a great accomplishment! I love grandma's chicken and cheesy rice by Stouffers. It comes in a big size, and is about 4 meals. About 18-19 g protein for 1 cup.
  3. I'm so sorry that you had a bad day. I completely went through the same thing. Believe it or not, tomorrow will be so much better. As for sleeping, I slept in a recliner for about 10 days. It let me sleep propped up which helped and it was easier to get in and out of. I was really sore, so to lay flat and use my stomach muscles to get in and out of bed hurt. If you don't have a recliner, try sleeping propped up on the couch. I feel like the 2 week mark was a turning point for me. I wasn't really sore anymore. Sometimes, I would have a pain here and there, but nothing like week one. As for liquids, I went on full liquids on day 8. Creamy Soups helped so much because they gave me more flavors than the clear liquids. So here is something to look forward to....yesterday (7th) was my official one month. I have lost 17 lbs and I started at 202. This week, several people in my office noticed my weight loss. And my last win, I went shopping last nt and am down one size!! Hang in there!! It definitely gets better!!

    One week till surgery

Good luck to everyone's success. I am 12.5 weeks post op but truly remember these feelings. A few things I did not know to expect after surgery... It is difficult to drink enough Water. The nurse told me to sip from the tiny medicine cup and she was so right! I used that cup for like the whole first week to 10 days...tiny sips. Lots and lots of tiny sips! If you don't have one, get a body shaper for when you go back to work. Sitting in a chair all day is much more difficult than sitting on your couch. The body shapers support helps ALOT Don't even try to eat bread - it hurts! I know we are supposed to do all low carb but even a few bites are terribly uncomfortable...just not worth it. They told me not to drink 30 mins before and after a meal, they are right...you will be sick if you drink while eating. I could hardly imagine not drinking when I ate, but you just can't. While there was some discomfort, it was not anything I would not do again in an instant! It took me 6 weeks to get back to sleeping in my bed, I was much more comfortable sitting up in a recliner. Take biotin!!! I am losing my hair like crazy - take biotin! I just recently started that, no one told me that...now my hair is very thin. Best wishes to all - it gets better! I feel so great being able to feel more comfortable in clothes, sliding into a booth at a restaurant I am going on a zip line next month with my sons Boy Scout Troop. I did not go last year when I found out the weight limit was 250 lbs and it was one of the things that drove my decision to have WLS. I am down to 237 today and know I will be further in my journey by the end of next month!

    Hot Or Cold

Yep, ice cube here, too! And I used to NEVER EVER be cold. My hubby misses it, he used to be able to snuggle up to me for warmth at night, and now it's the other way around! I could sleep in a 60 degree room with no blanket, just a sheet, and the ceiling fan going on high. Now, I have to pile on the blankets. During the day if I get cold, I'll have to go for a very brisk walk for at least 10 minutes to get warmed up. I still can't quite wear sweaters to work, because I still get too warm sometimes during the day, but I'm a lot more susceptible to the cold now than I've ever been.
  7. Hi all! I was banded in Knoxville,Tennessee on 12-18-2006. I weighed 255 and now weight 231. I will get my first fill on 2-2-06. I was astonished by all the burpies and flatulence after surgery. I also didn't expect to come out of surgery so BLOATED. Seems this is a side affect of laproscopic surgery. I was a terrible pre-surgery patient. My physician wanted me to lose 10% prior to surgery and I couldn't! I also wouldn't! I'm an emotional eater and I knew that if I did not get insurance approval that it was probably going to be a no go since I have 2 girls starting college. My biggest wisdom is...even being banded takes WILLPOWER. You don't get to eat alot of the things you could but the reality is...one can still eat. I have still had hunger pains but not as severe as pre band. If you think that all of a sudden you don't want food...that is simply untrue. If you ever want to ask a question...feel free to e-mail me! Take care!

    Back and Banded, too!!

I felt the same way you did --I was banded last week 10/19... The gas was awful the pressure and the pain in my left shoulder and back . My plane ride was really awful too --I was alone though... I am feeling so much better everyday though. I hope you do too. I am so glad it is over but I knew going in no matter what I had to do it and I would see it through. I had to be strong , follow the directions given to me about everything and pray it would be the tool I need to get me finally going. So far I must say it is.... Mexico was hard alone but I am waking up everyday happy and hopeful . I hope you feel better soon take it easy...

    Lapband-allergan

I've never heard of any band coming pre-filled right out of the package. I'd be irritated with your surgeon too. I have to wonder if he or someone else messed up your fill records somewhere along the way. For example: a local acquaintance (banded in 2007) thought she had a 4 cc band and was puzzled because seemingly aggressive fills made no difference to her restriction. Then suddenly some OR notes showed up in her file and the NP who did the fills admitted that she actually had a 10 cc band. I've also heard of fills that didn't get recorded in the patient file at all, fills whose amount was illegible in the handwritten file, fills that missed the port altogether... It's hard to trust medical professionals when something like that happens. Apparently surgeons are human, just like the rest of us, whether they care to admit it or not.

    Vsg Versus Roux-En-Y ?

The reason you find more people with RNY is because more people still get RNY. My guess is you will see that tide turning in the next 5-10 years. I agree with this statement. I believe that insurance companies are more likely to pay for RNY, but I see that changing too. I know medicare pays for RNY, but last I heard, didn't cover VSG.
  12. Okay good question, 10 grams protein per 8 oz. 29 carbs/8 oz.

How does a gastric band REALLY work?

Great article but we don't have 20 cent pieces here in the states and a 5 cent piece is a nickel here and is bigger than I would think the hole would be? Can you think of something more universal? Marbles? Pencil diameter? 10 millimeters ID?

What is everyone eating on a typical day?

I usually do a south beach protein cereal bar around 10 for breakfast two sticks of 100 calorie high protein cheese for lunch and then a small portion of whatever is for dinner. I finally have restriction though and am just starting to loose..
  15. I'm wishing that I'd seen this post about 30 minutes ago. It might have prevented me from going to the kitchen... again! I found out Thursday that my surgery could be as early as next month when I thought it wasn't going to be til this winter sometime. Sooo, I just realized tonight, after I'd finished my snack, that I was doing exactly what I didn't want to do. Meaning I think I'm hungry, (not really) and I'm eating everything I can get my hands on. I just told DH yesterday that I don't want to do the last meal syndrome or say forget and end up gaining weight. I want to keep losing up til surgery. Ain't gonna happen at this rate. The surgeon was fine knowing I'd only lost a little more than 5% (class requires 10%). I don't want to go in there having gained any weight. I've got to knuckle down and get serious and pay attention to what the heck I'm doing!! Thanks for posting this and for all of the responses. I KNOW it's not last meal or f' it time but I've got to keep that in my head. I'm so much closer to my goal now that I thought I would be, I don't want to sabotage myself.. again.

Recommendations on Doctors in J.C. TN

This is good to hear. I will be seeing Dr. Hodge for my first visit on Dec. 15. I just got the appointment today. I'm very anxious. I was disappointed that it will take 10 WEEKS before I can even get it, but I suppose that speaks for their skill. Everyone must want to see them.
  17. I had my surgery on 05/04/10 and started getting worried on day 4 with no bowel movement. I took a full dose of strawberry flavored Milk of Magnesia. I got over night cramp free relief just like the bottle promised. :scared2:

    Slow post-op weight loss

The first 6 weeks after surgery is not about weight loss it is about recovery ! Any weight loss during that time is just a bonus . My best advice , Concentrate on healing, Follow your post op diet , and from this point on don't compare your weight loss to anyone elses. There are SO Many factors that affect everyones weight loss you just can NOT compare , even some one who was banded on the same day as you . Your setting yourself up for disappointment ! Your doing great, the 10 pds you have lost is a great BONUS , a great head start. Keep up the great work ! HTH mindy
  19. I've been reading a lot of posting where some of you have lost close to 20 pounds in the first 2 weeks after surgery. I'm 3 weeks post-op and have only lost about 8 - 10 pounds and I'm strictly following the full liquid diet. Anyone else experiencing this?

    The beginning

I will have my band surgery on Feb 10, 08, all being well. I need to loose 80 pounds to reach my goal of 135. I don't have any pre-op diet requirements, and that concerns me somewhat. Nevertheless, I am spending the weekend prior to the surgery away exploring Medain Saleh, in Saudi Arabia, where I live for the time being. At the moment, I don't know how much time to take off work.

    Need advice before monday please

Pati, I would go for the two year deal. No one knows how many fills you will need. I have had 5 fills and one unfill in 19 months. You would be better off with someone who will offer you a program for your first two years that is local. You may not need more than 1-2, but most bandsters need 3-5 in their first year during ongoing weight loss. The need for a fill should slow down as you get closer to goal. So that would be my advice. Night time snacking problem...help!

I have found South Beach Bars are really good - 19 grms protein - they are big and 210 calories - Last night had one - cinnimon something and it was good - they have peanutbutter & choc too..

    Protein

My understanding to determine your protein need is to multiply your weight by .03. So a 200# person would need 60 grams of protein to maintain their muscle mass. I was also told to eat high quality protein using the ratio of 10 grams per 100 cals aprox. Food that is close to that ratio is good protein,( salmon, eggs, ham, turkey ect).
