  1. Got the answer today from my insurance company. If there are complications with my band that deem my revision surgically or medically necessary, there will be no waiting period. Otherwise, 6 months Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G890A using the BariatricPal App

    Hospital Stay

When you had your revision (if it was one procedure removing band and converting to rny) did you have to stay overnight or was this an outpatient procedure? My band was outpatient. Since I have a 3 year old, I'm hoping for outpatient again. My mother-in-law acted like I was nuts when I told her I thought it was outpatient. Am I crazy? Lol. WOW!!! I live in Roseburg, Oregon!! I also had Tersigni do my RNY. One thing for sure he is a good surgeon but no bedside manner at all!! I had problems with Strictures and I had to have 5 endoscopes with 4 dilations. He referred to me as a PROBLEM CHILD!!! I finally kind of fired him after I went to OHSU with my hubby and found out they would take me on as a PT. He also tried to do a Revision from a Lap Band to a RNY on my hubby but his band had eroded into his liver so they removed his gallbladder and closed him up and told us in 3 months he would do the RNY. He got abscesses and almost died. He was sick for 9 months and 3 months he doesn't even remember!! Long story short because he is Diabetic OHSU wanted his A1C to a 7 or below and to lose 20#'s before they could do his surgery. He could get his A1C down but his weight would go up. And if his weight went down his A1C would go up!! We ended up going to Juarez Mexico, he was supposed to have the RNY but his whole right side was solid scar tissue so they couldn't do it and he ended up with the Sleeve. Not much restriction so his weight loss is very slow. He has lost 60#'s since June 3. But I had lost 132#'s in 6 months. Then I did have a 8# gain but I was way to low at 117. It is just totally amazing that just 8#'s made that much difference. We really wished we would have gone to Tijuana. We have heard real positive things about them. I can say this for sure I WOULD NEVER NEVER recommend BELITE the Coordinator .The lady who set us up couldn't keep herself straight about who she was talking too. So SAD!!! Did your MOM and SISTER have good results with Tersigni? Anyhow I guess we are neighbors. LOL Look forward to talking again.

Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G935A using the BariatricPal App No, I haven't but I have seen and talked to a lot of people who has gone through it. When I went to my check up at my bariatric center, I spoke to one girl who said she cried every day since her revision, poor thing . Yeah, I'm worried about hairloss too. I didn't go through it with my band because the weightloss wasn't as drastic, a normal 2-3 lbs a week or slower... So I'm a little worried this time around because our calories are sooo much lower.I have only loss 15 pounds in six weeks so my weightloss is not to drastic but they said it would happen because of the stomach hormones loss. After my anorexia, I swapped seats on the titanic and gained 100 lbs. So I still value OA meetings online from time to time since I have a tendency to switch back and forth. Well, I think you did the right thing. Being overweight is just too risky for us. I'm happy that at least you don't have any serious issues with your sleeve. The risk factors are so low now since it's become a common surgery, thank goodness. Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App

  12. I used Dr Fernando Garcia and would use him again. The facility was perfect, everything went so smooth. No time to be nervous. Its done before you know it. I used OCC the first time around and Dr Ariel Ortiz was first class. I just couldn't afford to use him for my revision to sleeve. I would highly recommend both doctors.

    How did you decide?

I had the sleeve a little over 2 and 1/2 years ago, Its been great except for the severe reflux. I had GERD before hand but thought my doctor would repair my hiatal hernia and all would be well but it just didn't happen. I am now scheduled to have a revision to the RNYs in October. I hate the thought of another surgery but am looking forward to getting rid of the reflux. If you have any reflux don't get the sleeve. Good luck.
  17. Yeah, I thought about that too but I went ahead and had the revision done. I was very attached to my band. I thought exactly what you posted when I thought of a revision surgery. I know someone who had the bypass around the same time as my band, and now they are twice as heavy. I initially went in for a fill since I've been traveling, working and moving, I hadn't seen a fill doctor for a couple of years since I was still doing well and losing with the level of Fluid I had. So when I finally made an appointment with my current bariatric center, just to check my fluid level, and maybe get more added, they suggested the revision, and an unfill right then due to an enlarged esophagus (Too tight again, 2nd time for me). Gasp! I wasn't a happy camper because I knew I was going to gain some weight back once they unfill me. No way, I just want a fill please. Um, no can do... Either rest my band for months again and get refilled & struggle to find that sweet spot again or rest my band and get a revision. That's why I opted for the revision so I wouldn't go through the weight gain-weight loss cycle again since I had a habit of being too tight. I was still working to get to goal again after my first enlarged esophagus episode. I almost didn't go through with it. I'm happy with the results, the physical sensation that I get from the sleeve vs the band when I eat, as well as the weight loss results so far. I'm 24 days post-op and I'm down 22 lbs, and it's been relatively easy staying on program. Haven't thrown up or slimed yet. I guess from the band all these years, I know when to stop. That familiar pressure in the back of our throat... Stop or else. ^^ But, having said that, It is all very new to me though so check back in a few months lol. Since you're at goal, does your doctor still want you to have a revision, do you have issues with your band? Either way, hope it works out for you.
  18. in all of canada no matter what city they will only cover rny unless medically needed to perform sleeve. they say it's their "gold standard" and they see to many revisions from sleeve to rny. Skin and Sex...

So, I am seeing the surgeon tomorrow about a revision to either sleeve or bypass. I think with either I will likely lose a lot of weight, and I'm worried already about the excess skin. I didn't worry before my first surgery because hubs and I didn't have sex very often at all. I figured if I looked ok in clothes, it would all be okay. I didn't plan on being with anyone else. Long story short, hubs and I had sex exactly twice since my lapband in 2009. However, I'm in a different relationship now. I have asked my boyfriend of 2.5 years to give me his serious opinions on how he will feel about the excess skin I will probably have. I even sent him some pics to consider. Our relationship is long distance and we never see each other any less than 6 weeks between visits. So, he will not have the chance to gradually get used to the skin. It will be a big transition between visits. He admits the visual might be tough to get used to, but he says he loves me for me and it will be okay. My question is have any of you had any issues with skin affecting your sex life. Also, do you have any lingerie tips or anything like that for concealing the skin? I've not had a revision, and I'm already worried about feeling sexy in my skin. I'm accustomed to feeling sexy even in my large body. I'm just no so sure about a thin but saggy body.

    Freedom Fighters Weekly Weigh In

Hi Amy, I am here, hopefully there are other '09 bandsters here also. I also had a baby back in may 2011, I haven't been back down to my pre-pregnancy weight since. I am very discouraged, and am only down 15 lbs from surgery. Good luck with the surgeon appt. tomorrow, I am scared to have a revision, or any other surgery. Please keep us posted.

    New Mom and gaining weight

I understand your frustration. Here's my story. My pregnancy was complicated too, but in a different way than yours. I was banded July 7, 2009. I started at 283 and got down to 218 by March. I held steady between 223-228 until I got pregnant in 2012. I had a very tough (but so welcomed!) pregnancy and got up to 244. I was hospitalized Dec 20 and she was born Dec 28. I was discharged Dec 31, but we didn't go home until Feb 23. By then, I was back at 228. Fast forward until today, and I'm sitting here at 267. Apparently, the stress of her birth sent me into a Hashimoto's tail spin. My thyroid was decimated, but I didn't know that until this March. My levels were all over the place but because of staff changes at my primary care office, no single person was really keeping track. Thankfully, my neighbor who is now a FNP working in that office took a look at saw that something was fishy. She referred me to an endocrinologist. Despite being prediabetic and having PCOS and thyroid issues, I had never been referred. I have tried to get back on track several times, and nothing seems to work. I used a trained for months, I did weightwatchers, phentermine and Topamax, myfitnesspal, you name it. It was the old me again... I had to have my band completely unfilled while I was pregnant due to hyperemesis. I was at 5cc in a 10cc band. Since then, I have not been able to tolerate a fill over 2.5cc. Still about 3 days a week and sometimes more, I can't eat anything except sliders stuff until later afternoon or early evening. By then I have either eaten a ton of garbage or am starving. When I can eat, I don't get full any faster than before surgery. It's like the only thing my band does for me now is cause me trouble. My endo wants me to have a revision to sleeve or bypass. I see the surgeon tomorrow. I don't know how I feel about this. I chose band for many reasons, and I'm sad to now think I made the wrong choice and have to essentially start over.

  23. I'm thinking this may be my situation. Probably 3-4 days a week, I can't eat things I should because of my band. I'm thinking the issues with it may make it so that I can get it done sooner as long as I'm a candidate for having the revision in one surgery.

    What to tell people?

I only told family a few close friends. At work just said having procedure and will be back in about 2 weeks. I am having revision to sleeve and if surgeon can't do all at once don't want to have to explain. Once I go back and start losing if someone asks I will be honest. No one but family knew I had the band. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
