    Proudgrammy's problem is back again

So are we all better now Kathy? I'm praying so you'll still be my bariatric god-aunt, my natural family's pretty well died out. I need you, Fluffy Chix, Creek Imp and Little Green to have my back, life has been pummeling me recently. Sent from my VS880PP using BariatricPal mobile app

    How did you?

so if you go to mybariatricpantry.com click shop and it will take you to the samples page, if you go to bjsbariatrics.com and scroll down the first page you will see the nectar sample pack and you can choose your own flavors or you can call 1-866-333-7403 Ext. 803 mon-fri 8-5 central time and request the nectar sample pack for 15.99. at ohyeahnutrition.com click sample kits and they have different samples you can order pretty cheap. at bariatricchoice.com you can do a live chat and request the bariatric surgery sample pack for free. I also ordered samples of Celebrate bariatric vitamins at celebratevitamins.com they give you one of everything they sell for 3 dollars. hope this helped.
  3. I went though the NY Bariatric Group -- that's pretty much all they do; can do all the testing on-site, have good follow-up and also a plastic surgery group too. I'd recommend them.
  4. I was banded by Dr Enochs @ Bariatric Specialist of NC 919 459 0091

    Dr. Titus Duncan

She was pleased. I went with Dekalb medical because several people that I knew who had even sleeve or full bypass a gone with Dekalb were extremely happy. Also my youngest daughter is a surgical tech and she had assisted my surgeon on several procedures both general and bariatric and she said he was absolutely phenomenal.

    I'm 60 +

Hi there I am doing great I lost 42 pounds already other than having a little problem in the beginning with the small infection that has cleared up right away. Even though I always had a life that I was sitting down watching TV and eating things that work the best for me I am now walking everyday and getting these weak legs of mine a run for their money lol. Hope you're doing this is a journey I probably should have done years ago but I'm glad I did it now. I'm on a regular bariatric diet which means I can eat mostly anything if it agrees with me and looking forward to what the future brings I hope you're doing well on your weight loss Journey take care. How's it going PO peeps?

Congrats on your smooth recovery so far! PS: Those Bariatric Advantage chews are disgusting. Actually, i tried muleiple brands. They are are unbearable, for me anyway. I know some people like the Bariatric fusion brand. They were the best of the worse for me. I still couldn't stomach them daily. Luckily I was cleared for pills and large capsules at 2 weeks. Good luck, I hope you find something you like.

    Frightend Man

What exactly are you afraid of...I'm getting it done on the 10th of November and I am afraid of nothing but dyin! Bring on the hair loss, bring on the pain just keep me alive. So to soothe my fears I went about doing my own mortality study and here's the facts: new lap band studies as reported by Bariatrics Today indicate that 3 of 16,000 died from Lap Band...all three were injuries to the stomach performed by surgeons who have done less than 20. Further, here's a great number 1 in 100 die of a hip replacement, more than 1 in a 100 die of hernia repair, 1 in 5000 die of simple liposuction! I'm saying this surgery has amazing odds! I'll be scared to death til the minute I'm put under, but I have faith that I'm coming out of it to a far better journey!
  9. I was just thinking about this the other day... My weight was 250lbs for years...I was well above it... then...when I went over 300, I figured it was too high to be 50lbs less...so i made it 280... well, I'm now 224...and I have a year until I renew...hopefully I'll be at goal and not have to tell a weight fib! Insurance Finally Verified...have a question

I have a different Blue Cross plan. Under my plan, the out of pocket max is the max I'd pay in a year for all services - its intended as a safeguard if you have a catastrophic injury or illness. That was different than what I paid for any given service. Does your blue cross plan have a SErvice Benefit Brochure online? If so, it will likely list bariatric surgery and say what you need to pay depending on if the doc and hospitals are preferred providers or not. Also, note that this cost is JUST for the hospitalization. I ended up with costs for the hospital, surgeon, anesthesiologist, and lab work. It was far lower than my out of pocket max. I saw three surgeons before I decided on surgery, the only one that would have required me to make such a big payment up front was someone who did not take insurance and was covered as a non-participating provider. Again, my insurance may work differently than yours.
  11. I today ran out of my vitamin starter pack from my Dr. I plan on ordering a package plan around the 5th of July (waiting for payday). I am not sure why or how I waited so long to get more. 🙄 So my problem is I need to get something that I can take for a week or two until my bariatric vitamins come in. Does anyone know how I might can find something? Thank You, Tracy (RNY gastric bypass 5/23/22)
  12. Hi! I had the sleeve on July 16, I've been doing ok with trying to get my shakes in but I'm having a terrible time with my vitamins. I'm not sure if it's the brand or just taking vitamins in general. I got my vitamins from bariatric advantage both the multi and the calcium. Aside from them tasting terrible, I feel like vomiting shortly after taking just 1. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!!
  13. My surgery is scheduled for March 2015 and I'm going alone to Tijuana Mexico with Dr Gustavo Yanez. I chose him because he specializes in both Bariatric surgery and Cosmetic surgery. My fee is $4999.00 and I don't pay on anything until the day I arrive for the surgery. I'll stay one night in the hospital and two nights in a hotel. I need a surgery partner
  14. Thanks for the link! I heard her on This American Life talking about fat acceptance, and it's really interesting to read her WLS experience. I thought this was crazy: "A nutritionist cautioned us not to visit online forums about bariatric surgery, and I heeded her advice" What kind of frigging advice is this? I understand doctors don't like patients to hear competing medical advice. But this is also a terribly emotional process, and the medical staff often don't understand those issues if they haven't been through them. So many of the issues she talks about are things people here talk about. I feel like Roxane wouldn't have to feel so bad and confused about how the surgery has changed her life if she had the chance to talk more with others going through the same things.
  15. hi, i have surgery in 2 weeks. i changed my pcp to one that works with bariatric specialist. my bmi was high enough to qualify at 43 but insurance required that i visit dr each month and talk about weight and fill out form with doctor for 6 months min. our hospital has a class each month and then you find out who does the surgery and what insurance company needs or requirements are. it will be 11 months since i started process. i explained to pcp doctor what i wanted to do and why. laying out a logical explanation to him. i think he understood my need and after visiting each month i felt very comfortable to ask for referral..i see him in morning for final visit before surgery with pcp. july 6 i see the surgeon for preop. sell it! sell the idea that this is for you. good luck. i am not sure but they want you to make the big commitment for health.
  16. Check out a product called ageLOC. A friend of mine recommended it to me, though she hasn't had any bariatric surgery, she says she can tell a difference.
  17. I eat a lot of fruit relative to other bariatric patients and am not a big meat eater (pre or post gastric bypass) and I do not dump, not once; even the occasional dessert does not cause me any issues. YMMV
  18. Well first, I'll say congratulations on your decision to take care of yourself in this way. This is not an easy decision. I think sometimes the 'intrinsic value' that society and 'our' culture puts on the diet and exercise mentality is easy to internalize. It's easy to feel like 'well I 'should' be able to this on my own.' The truth is for most of us, if that were possible it would have been done already. Staying in that place can be depressing. But the bottom line this is a life changing decision. It's empowering. This is an opportunity to rebuild, create an even more authentic identity for yourself. Is there a counselor/therapist that specializes in bariatric patients? You can do this!
  19. Hello! My doctor has a weekly support group that is conducted at a few different locations in Northern Illinois. Ok Guys

Love how you post in the Mens Room and get mostly female answers? Upper GI endoscopy is probably the test. (The tool is an endoscope, the procedure is endoscopy, and upper GI is where they're going.) You'll most likely be in twilight sleep for it, and completely unaware - or maybe slightly aware. I can remember being wheeled into the room. I remember them telling me "We're going to stick this in your mouth" and it looking like a big beige Tylenol with a hole in it (they thread the camera through it), but I don't remember it going in my mouth. I also remember them telling me they were going to spray the stuff that numbs the throat (limits gag reflex) but I don't remember tasting it or anything. I just remember these things as snapshots after the fact. It's truly no where near as horrible as I expected it to be. Usually insurance companies are wanting "documented" weightloss attempts (e.g. those mentioned before, for which you would have a receipt, or log, or weigh-ins, or could somehow verify you really did it). But not always. Write down anything you can think of: what you did, what you lost, etc. In my documentation for my first bariatric surgery (lapband) I included a crazy, but successful diet I did ~1995 where I ate whatever I wanted but no more than 10gm of fat a day. I also documented my Atkins diet attempt, for which I printed out logs I'd kept on an Atkind diet messageboard. DcMak72 - it indeed will be here like *that*. Use the time to get your preparations done - find a few Protein powders you like, start making the behavioral changes you'll need post-op (e.g. chewing everything to goo - breaking bad chewing behaviors is harder than it seems it would be), if you don't yet start ensuring you're taking in 64 oz of Water a day, at least -- if you're going high protein use 64 oz as your base, and add 8 oz for every 25 lbs of weight you need to lose. I had to wait about 6 mos between my band removal and my sleeve (insurance fiasco), and about 1.5 mos between being scheduled and surgery date. At the time it seemed impossibly long, but overall it flew by. Best of luck!
  23. I had a horrible headache today too. I was drinking the Bariatric Advantage shakes until I realized that the taste and smell of all of the added Vitamins were giving me an instant headache. So I got some Total Lean RTD shakes from GNC and some Body Fortress whey from Wal-Mart and it was all good. I've done liquid diets in the past, so between 4 shakes and the Water, I'm not hungry. Plus I get one low-carb meal a day and can snack on cucumbers and sugar-free popsicles, so...so far so god for day 2.
  24. All of my prerequirements were done, some twice, quite a story behind THAT, had my presurgical July 17th, found out that day when it would be. Started on my liver-shrinking diet August 1st, met with a Internal medicine resident, who went over in great detail my previous surgeries, any reaction to anesthesia, went over my med list with a fine toothed comb, a lot of meds on there but truly boring type stuff. Gave me 2 bottles of a prep diet solution, one at midnight, other 2 hours prior to surgery.Made by Abbott Labs, the folks that make Ensure, also headquatered in Columbus, do I sleek a slight kickback there? Wanted to give me a nice big bottle of Hibiclens, get that nasty stuff Away from me, found out at previous surgery ( on my left knee) I am quite allergic, looked like somebody thrown acid on my poor leg. So I got special instructions , Dial Gold liquid soap, double shower, 2nd shower leave on 5 minutes and be sure to scrub your navel. Hnnnh? Turns out my surgeon Dr Needleman uses there as one of his portal sites, so I got 7 , one in the navel so it was made clear. At 6 months they have faded some much into the surrounding stretched marked territory they are not easy to find. Only one still clear is the one just below the sternum kinda between my breasts, that was where the liver retractor went in, and the liver shrink diet work, lost 15 pounds that month alone and he said my liver was small, sleek and smooth like a newborn calf, once I was certain he wasn't going to sell me for veal I felt pretty proud of ME.. Would I do it again? Oh no doubt, I have not had a textbook recovery but I'm more mad at my crabby old 73 year old body for mal- healing than I could the hospital, surgical procedure or my wonderful surgeon, in my ❤ he was and is a miracle worker. And to my dying day, and I don't plan to do that for years, I will be intensely grateful he took a chance on me when many programs would have turned me down on age alone. I fought seen and unseen hostilities for 3 long years to get Precious Pouch installed, although she is an ornery brat who rules my life, we will still make our final peace, the GERD freedom makes up for a lot of things, the blips, twists and turns in my bariatric journey . Basically we each write our own journal, in our lives, mine will be a cliff- hanger, you won't go to sleep if you read mine. 📝
