How do you get in enough Calories a day?
VSGAnn2014 replied to reachbree's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Add melted cheese to the Beans. You will LOVE that. Then add chopped (pureed?) chicken to the beans / cheese. And some seasonings. Mmm ... mmm! Find a luscious flavored Greek yogurt. Twelve grams of Protein at the very least. Most people love it. I did. I was also into nonfat milk -- am a milk drinker. Make some chili and puree it a little (not all the way). Add a dollop or two of sour cream. Did I mention cheese? Mmm ... makes me want to do a week of "soft foods" again. -
I feel like I can hold too much..
hbrhonda replied to Mjohnson4631's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Make an effort to measure your foods anyways, even slider foods. Your new tummy is still healing. My favorite new thing is 5 oz dixie cups not quite full. I drink water, zero gatorade, protein shake, and put yogurt, measure out soup. Then Voila toss them out!! -

I agree. I felt same way on full liquid/cream. Now on mushy foods like chicken salad it is a few bites and if I eat too fast or don't chew not good. When on soups, shakes, cottage cheese, and yogurt I thought I could eat much more than the serving. -

Apart from a couple shakes I usually have a small 6oz cup of cottage cheese and fruit, or a cup of yogurt, or I can even hold a whole egg and slice of cheese.. I'm 3 wks out from surgery. I see people a year out that only hold a few bites.. It makes me concerned about my intake.. I'm not overly full either. Suggestions? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
I feel like a huge baby, especially after reading other posts about people being hungry after surgery. I'm sorry if I sound like a huge baby, but this pre-op diet SUCKS!!!!???? My surgery is 7/25. I started my pre-op diet yesyetday. I'm allowed two Protein shakes a day (Breakfast and lunch) and 2 oz of lean meat, and 1 cup of veggies for dinner. I am seriously so hungry! I've drank so much Water today to try and not be so hungry, but it's not helping so much lol. Did anyone else have a difficult time during their pre-op diet? I gotta say though, my kid is freaking awesome! My 12 yr old daughter has decided to give up all sugar, sodas, Snacks, and unhealthy carbs during my pre-op phase; she's doing amazing! Then today, my stepson wanted to try it with us too. He said he loves it lol. Now all the kids want to eat healthier which makes me SO HAPPY!!! My fiancé has 3 kids, and I have 2, so in total we have 5. My fiancé fully supports my decision to have surgery, but he said from the beginning that he wouldn't want to change his diet with me, but he did today. He loves chips and dip, and instead of having that as a snack tonight, he had a yogurt and a banana which made me really happy. I also needed him to pick up a few things at the grocery store this evening, and he told me he had ice cream sandwiches, but decided to put them back. I am so unbelievably thankful for the support I have, and that's just at home. Sent from my SM-N910P using the BariatricPal App

Feel like I'm eating crap

Icelandic yogurt is great as shared. There are many brands and sometimes it is called Skyr. It is smoother and not bitter like Greek yogurt. I wouldn't eat it all day because it has much more carbs -- I don't think I have ever seen it in plain flavor. -

I know what you mean with the lack of options. I'm very adamant about eating clean - artificial ingredients actually make me ill & finding all natural foods that fit what I'm allowed to eat does not offer much variety. Look for this yogurt called Smari, it's Icelandic yogurt. It's higher in Protein, lower in sugar, and in my opinion tastes better than Greek yogurt. Target carries it. magoosmom replied to charley27's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeah I am ready for some real meat and not so many carbs. I don't eat a lot of carbs normally so having grits, mashed potatoes, refried Beans, Etc is not my cup of tea. I have had Greek yogurt but dairy and I never got along too well. But it's just a little longer--one more week--and then I can have fish and other higher Protein. Inner Surfer Girl replied to Alaa1986's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was sleeved in April of 2015, so I am over a year out. I have lost over 200 pounds from my highest weight and still have quite a ways to go. Fortunately, I have rarely experienced nausea or other issues related to eating. For me, drinking plain Water was the hardest thing to do post-op. I get my 100 grams of Protein by eating a lot of Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, tuna, turkey, Beans, chicken, fish, cheese, etc. -

KristenLe replied to abreland's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@abreland Go with a high proten/low carb. Protein - tuna, chicken, fish, cottage cheese, cheese, greek yogurt, Beans, etc. Some good carbs would be fruit and vegetables (no Pasta, rice, bread, sweets, etc.). Good fat would be avocado, nuts, olive oil, etc. My plan suggests less than 5 gms of sugars (added sugar) and less than 5 gms fat in a serving of what I eat. Your nutritionist should be able to give you more information and guidance. Ask questions - and write everything down - ask for handouts for anything you may need too. Good luck. -
@...when eating food are you tracking carbs?....I know for me staying below 30g of carbs is what it takes to see the scale go down............I eat mostly chicken or fish, greek yogurt, and non starchy veggies.....no breads, pasta, rice or potatoes.

So confused...
justhere4theshow replied to justhere4theshow's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have been getting about 80 grams of protein, as much water as I can hold, and I eat a meal replacement bar for breakfast, for lunch I have greek yogurt with a scoop of protein powder, in the afternoon I get really hungry and I will usually have a small snack of chicken salad with about 5-6 Ritz cracker chips (which are less than 100 calories) and then for dinner I either just have a protein shake or chicken. I have snacked on some fruit here and there (fresh peaches) but I have pretty much stayed under 1200 calories which is what my surgeon advised. I feel like the surgery has literally had no effect at all. I have a call into my nutritionist. I can't take much more of this. -
Nighttime leg cramping.
KristenLe replied to ag0177's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
@@ag0177 It could be dehydration, low potassium, low calcium, etc. I would also be concerned about a blood clot (DVT). Try using some compression stockings to see if that helps. Try drinking something with electrolytes. Depending on the stage you are in - you could add some foods with potassium - Beans, bananas, squash, potatoes (with skin), yogurt, avocado. If it gets worse - don't hesitate to call your Dr again - blood clots are extremely serious - but so is low potassium. -

Refried Beans with a little cheese or unflavored greek yogurt (tastes like sour cream but higher protein). Cheese sticks (loved string cheese in the early days) chicken or tuna salad (I love doing chicken salad with a few red grapes chopped up, some mayo and a touch of curry powder) -

Greek yogurt is really good with a scoop of unflavored Unjury powder. Packs a good protein punch. It won't be long before you can spread your wings a bit. Just let your tummy heal. You'll get there. -

I started my journey back in February 2016, at 266 my highest. I disgusted with my doctor. And she mentioned the biaratric surgery that can help me with my knees, because I was struggling just to walk. So I called my insurance company and ask them what I needed to do to get it done, they said get a psychiatrist and a nutritionist and they will take care of it so the Journey Begins. I did everything I was supposed to do within a month of talking to my nutrition and changing the way I eat, the hardest thing was to drink 30 minutes after I eat or before so by the time it was time for me to meet my surgeon I had already surpassed their goal for me. For me that was a lifestyle change, she wanted to have my surgery within 2 weeks but my nutritionist had to help me with mine Water intake. June 23rd was the day I had my surgery, they kept me for 5 days due to the fact I couldn't urinate at the appropriate time so had to come home with the bag attached to me until I saw urineologist, and he took good care of me and that was over. So by the time I left the hospital I was on stage 3 Protein liquids, yogurt following directions and I was good the first couple of days. Then I ended up back in the hospital for 2 days because I was dehydrated water was tasting metallic to me, so they gave me fluids started me on stage 4 pureed food before I left. Basically I was eating like two ounces of pureed chicken + 1 Protein Drink that was my meal, but before I left the smell of the protein drink was turning my stomach, so when I got home it continued so I went back to just applesauce and and Multivitamins Calcium the meds they gave me. And I thought I was on my way here I am today: July 11th food won't stay down still drinking water and went back to applesauce waiting for my nutrition to call me. I am taking one day at a time, I have know regrets. I can walk, I walk around the track at 5:30 am every morning, except today. I've gotten up to two miles, taking my time. It is a blessing because a couple of weeks ago I couldn't make it through the grocery store without the scooter. As of today I am at 230lbs and ticking. I had Gastric Sleeve surgery in January of 2016. Since the pre-surgery diet, I have lost around 115 lbs. Long story short, a few months ago- I got sick every time I ate. Didn't matter if it was yogurt, chicken, beef, etc. Within 30-60 mins of eating, I was in the bathroom with severe diarrhea, vomited once, had a pain in my upper stomach when eating ,etc. My surgeon did a CT with contrast and found that I had a blood clot in my stomach as well as pancreatitis. I went on a pretty low key "diet" of just Soups, yogurt, liquids just to calm things down. He also gave me some Carafate to take before eating. After a few days, the problem resolved. Long story short- the same symptoms have come up again, only this time I have blood in my stool and quite a bit of it. I called and they had me go to the local ER last week for a CT with contrast again to make sure I didn't have a leak. CT looked good, blood work, and urine tests came back fine. Once again I was given Carafate and sent home. Here I am on about day 10 of the symptoms and nothing has changed. Still getting sick when I eat, always on the verge of vomiting, blood in my stool, diarrhea, pain in my stomach when I eat, etc. Any one else have these same symptoms before? If so- what has helped? I don't want to be a pain to my doctor, but I'm really worried about the blood. I have lost 4 lbs this past week. Mostly due to the fact that I can't eat anything. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Not losing weight
justhere4theshow replied to tobesleeved's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved on 5/23/16, and I have had similar struggles. I didn't really start seeing the scale move until I ate MORE. I was stressing about overeating the other day, and I lost 2.5 pounds not long after that. My Protein intake has greatly improved since I started adding unflavored unjury powder to my greek yogurt. I love it and it gets me to my protein goal much better than I was doing before. I feel like we just have to experiment a little and see what our bodies respond to. I can't have a lot of carbs, but that might not be a concern for you. I have just been trying to listen to my body and doing what my program says. I am a firm believer that we lose better when we eat a little more (healthy choices of course). We have to let our bodies know that they are not starving. I hope things turn around for you soon. -
Hey everyone, Just started week 2 of my full-liquid diet today, and I'm dreading stage 3... Puréed for me starts next Tuesday, and I don't know what I'm going to do. I've been looking at some baby food, but I'm worried I won't be able to tolerate it since my attempt to have yogurt almost made me dry heave. My one thought was to do another 2 weeks of liquids, but I really should make some kind of attempt to thicken what I'm eating so I can be following the program. Anyone have any suggestions or recipes that got you through the purée stage? Tomato Soup is my favorite thing during this stage, so if anyone has a thicker tomato soup suggestion that would be great... Looking forward to hearing what you guys think. I was thinking of getting some chicken and cooking it, then purring it inside some tomato soup... I'll eat/drink anything in tomato soup at this point to get through those two weeks LOL. Thanks in advance. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
