    Please help me!!

Hi Noosh, I did have my surgery on 12-29-08. It went well, and although the incision where the port is was a little more painful that I expected, it hasn't been bad at all. I've lost about 15 pounds (not surprising, since there's not a whole lot that i can eat!), so I've got about 60 more to go. The first week was a little rough, between some pain (though not bad) and wanting to eat. Since then, it's been easier. I will be getting my first fill on 2-11, and I am looking forward to being able to eat real food again soon. As far as the process went with Aetna, it was really painless! The insurance guru at my surgeon's office did basically everything, and the fact that I had been seeing my primary care physician for about 6 months (and had 3 consecutive monthly visits...make sure you get those done) and had tried other way to lose (Meridia, Pfen-Fen, Weight Watchers, etc.) really helped. My out of pocket expenses were about $2000, including my co-pay and the classes that I took through the Bariatric Program that works with my surgeon. I've submitted the fees for the program to Aetna to see if I can get reimbursed, so we'll see how that goes! Good luck to you, and if I can do anything to help, please let me know!

    Weeks 3 and 4 exhausted

Well, it's possible that your body is working to readjust again to the new intake "style". However if it doesn't improve in the next week or so, make sure you talk to your doctors!
  4. First, let me just say I am sorry for your frustration and that I completely understand. I'm 5 weeks post op and and don't have a fill in sight- I'm self pay so I have to save up for it. But that said, I am running on straight up will power! And it has been a struggle, but I'm doing it. And you can too! What worries me is that you said you are eating what you did and how much you did before. Ask anyone- the band is not a magical cure. It is a helper. We still have the same obese brain we did before! We can't do anything about that. You really just need to learn to change your thinking. Try tracking all of your food. I use myfitnesspal.com. It's wonderful. I eat 1200 calories per day and also track my exercise there too. I have no restriction right now so I really need to watch what goes in my body. We all do! And this way, I'm training my mind to eat the right foods so that when I do have proper restriction I will stay on track even more. I lost 10 pounds pre-op and 12 so far post-op. This past week was a struggle and I stopped losing but I refuse to give up or gain. Remember, it's completely up to you! You/I/We are our own worst enemy... Work on the mental side of it until you can have the physical part on your side. That way you can be even more successful. If you don't tackle the mental part then you will always find a way to "cheat" the band- so I've heard.... Good luck, and keep us all updated!

    Restriction? or Too Tight?

Wow, I am going through the same thing you are. I got my 3rd fill and I was on liquids and mushys for the next 4 days. On my 5th day I went on a business trip to Vegas and I have not been able to eat anything at all. I can only drink Water, shake and eat Soups. But not creamy soups. It's not a good feeling because everything I threw up everything. So, my first two months I lost 19 lbs. for the last three weeks I hadn't lost anything at all. Then after 5 days of not eating anything, just liquids, I lost 7 lbs. How does that happen? I was thinking about going to the doctor but I have lost so much weight that I don't want to go. Oh and another thing, I am not hungry! So, here it is two weeks after my 3rd fill and I've decided to just eat soups until my next doctor's visti (in two weeks) so that I can loose more weight because I was at a plateau!

    Restriction? or Too Tight?

I seem to be having sort of the same issue. I had my 2nd fill in January and have not needed to go back as of yet. Until the past 2 weeks I was comforable and now I can not seem to keep anything down. I am scared to have some taken out for fear of gaining, but at the same time I know I am not getting what my body needs if I am vomiting all the time.

    Increased Energy?

I'm only 3 weeks out but by week 2 I found myself--less lazy lol I don't know, I never wanted to do dishes and waited for my husband to do it. I tidy up my closet, my living area. I'm not sure if it's because I'm resting at home and have a lot of spare time or what but it's strange. I hope I still want to be energetic like this when I go back to work. Still have 2 and a half weeks of sick leave. I love that I can go walking in the park for 2 hours everyday. Now I'm feeling pretty much like my own self, no longer exhausted like the first week even I'm living on very small amont of food. I'm pretty convinced now that maybe we don't actually need a lot of food to survive. The "normal" portion of meals probably is even too much and unnecessary?

    The 3 Week Stall

I went 3 and a half weeks with no movement. Yes it is disheartening, but just know it will move. Mine stalled at 229. When it did start moving, it moved pretty fast. Five pounds a week. Just keep on what you are doing. Get your water in. It will move. There's no way for it not to if you are making the right choices.

    Breakfast?

i'm pretty boring with my breakfasts. I generally rotate through greek yogurt, cottage cheese and egg bites. For the egg bites - think crustless quiche baked in mini muffin pans. 2 sometimes 3 of those make a breakfast for me. I change up the veggies and meat added to them for variety.

    Really Sick Of This

Have you tried eliminating dairy? I was extremely nauseas and hospitalized for a week 3 wks post op. Even the IV meds didn't work...took dairy out of my diet and was better within 24 hrs. I tried sour cream today, just a little, and have been nauseas most of the day. It sux something fierce but I feel a lot better. Hope you feel better!
  11. I had my surgery last week and had staples removed today. The asked if I've had any problems with acid reflux or heartburn and I haven't but I've read on here were a lot of people do experience it. The nurse then asked if I was taking my prilosec and I had completely forgot, as soon as I got home I took my first dose, an hour later I had the worst case of heartburn and stomach bubble...this is very strange to me. Other than this little issue everything else has been going great and I've lost 22 lbs:)

    Love To Walk

I love love love to walk. I was walking 2-3 miles a day my goal was 4 miles aDay In an hour. I nan do 2 miles in 30 min. So doable. That is until an old hip injury resurfaced. I had surgery on my left hip in 04. And was part of the reason I gain the weight. Now I'm lucky to get a day where I can get my 2 miles in Then I'm laid up for a few days in pain from the hip injury. Winters coming to NNY. So I planning on getting a gym membership. Any suggestions. Anyone out there suffering from chronic pain in their joints too.

    Cardio -vs- weight training

I have been working with a personal trainer 3 days a week and here is what we do on those days... 30 minutes of strength training (weights) then 30 minutes cardio. She/he (I work with a woman 2 days and a guy one day) both said always do weights first - and it I can only get one thing in to make it the weights because you burn more calories and tone more by the strength training. But I think it really depends on your goals -and the most important thing is that you just get to the gym and exercize! Here is a good short article on this topic... My link
  17. I don't mean to gross anyone out but I have had constant diarrhea for the past 2 weeks. I am 3 1/2 months out and have never really had this problem. Anyone else experience this?

    I Have A Date! :)

Yay! I got my surgery date today! I have to go in for my pre-op appointment next Monday and my surgery is scheduled for Thursday, July 19. I am so happy that they were able to schedule a date so soon. I want to be off of my modified liquids diet before I go back to school (work). I will be 4 weeks post-op by then, and 12 weeks post-op by my brother-in-law's wedding. I can't wait for my body on the outside to match my personality on the inside. I am so excited! I am motivated to get as much weight as I can off before the wedding. Wahoo!

    Need some female advice please

I too had the Mirena and was surprised when I bled for the first few weeks. It was light, but I usually didn't get a period. That being said, this January (1 yr. post-sleeve) I started bleeding again and found out I had a large fibroid that led to a hysterectomy. Most ob/gyn's will tell you if you are bleeding in a way that is abnormal for you, you should get it checked out because it is a sign of uterine or ovarian cancer. Luckily for me it was neither. I know it is very expensive, but peace of mind and assurance that you are healthy is very important!

    Talapia

It's better with cheese melted on it and then a big ol' squirt of BBQ sauce on top of that on a bed of french fries. LOL. Just kidding, that does sound really good and 3 oz Tilapia filets are easy to find at the grocery store for cheap usually. Bill
