  1. I had surgery the day before you did - the protein shakes and unjury powder really kept me from being hungry, but I felt VERY FATIGUED. It was when I was able to eat protein again that I felt more energetic. I have had to experiment with how much food to eat, to learn to stop BEFORE I feel full. I use 8 oz plexiglass ramekins to get a good visual of how much I should eat (NOT THE WHOLE THING FULL! Just the bottom of the dish...). I have been managing about 3 oz of protein with a couple of bites of veg and fruit. I chew, chew, chew, and if I don't chew enough and I eat too mindlessly, I can feel the stretch in my sleeve. I agree with Suepeeps...if you are following instructions, the likelihood that you are doing any real damage is LOW! Also, at first, it seemed like I had a hard time distinguishing hunger from the sensation of my stomach being empty, or even just feeling thirsty. When you feel unsatisfied, tried sipping on some water or crystal lite and see if that helps? Good luck and thanks for your post!

    Really Really Upset

I'm sorry you're having a hard time. I wonder if you could be building lots of muscle & that's why the scale is moving slow? Have you lost inches & sizes? I've had 2-3 week periods where the scale only moves a half pound or so, but I lose inches. But no matter what, 46 lbs is GONE & that's gotta feel good!! Hang in there & try to focus on how much healthier & stronger you are.

    Really Really Upset

Hey, I'm at 6 mos. also and I'm only down 52 lbs. I really don't care about the speed of loss, just that I'm losing. But, could it be that you're not getting in enough calories for what you're doing each day? I had to up things to get things moving again when I had a stall. I've got about 25-30 lbs to go and I'm trying to find a balance with calories in & calories out to maintain the loss w/no stalls. We've done well so don't beat yourself up. We're in this together. :-)

    Lifting weight restrictions

i was banded on 1/17/11 and I have a 15 month old and another who will be 3 next month... I know that you are not suppose to pick them up for a while - I didnt make it. Within days I was picking them up (I had to get them into carseats etc.), but I made my husband do most of the lifting whenever possible. I usually sat down and made them climb on my lap (or have your baby handed to you). I would say you can't pick them up at all for 1 week and really should try not to for 2 weeks. So far I have been fine, no slips or problems - maybe I was just lucky. Dont worry, you will be fine.
  5. Well I made it to my two week post op and I am down 28 pounds since I left the hospital. My doctor was very pleased with my results. I went home the day after surgery and I will return to work tomorrow. The first few days post op were rough, but now I am doing much better and each day it gets easier to get in all of my Protein and fluids. My right side still has some pain, but I don't even take pain medication for it. I was very surprised that I have healed as quickly as I have, since normally it takes me a long time to recover from surgery. I hope you all have a very Merry Christmas today. I will keep the updates coming.
  6. I had mine on 1/18/16, lost 20lbs in the first 10 days, then gained back 6 and have stalled. I'm encouraged that at least I'm not the only one who has stalled, but the weight gain is what has me worried. Guess we'll have to have patience and wait it out, which is always fun...
  7. Soooooo, I'm 9 weeks post, down 39 pounds. 5 pounds away from one-der-land. (Which i am beyond happy about) I had my first family gathering with family I haven't seen since Christmas, easily 39 pounds ago. Not one of them noticed or mentioned my weight loss. They don't know I had surgery, or at least I don't think they knew. I have to admit, that was a bit of a total bummer. I have gone from a stuffed size 20 to a Baggie 16 and not a word. Ugh! Has anyone else had that happen?
  8. My first consultation with surgeon is tomorrow. He repaired a large hernia for me a year ago so he is already pretty familiar with me. We talked about the sleeve gastrectomy after my hernia surgery and now I am ready to go through with it. I started the 3 month medically supervised diet program June 7. Any words of wisdom? I have about 180 lbs I need to lose. Thank you and best of health to all!
  9. Not weighing was the best advice I received from the site and the best decision I made. I only weigh when I have a doctor's appointment and don't own a scale so there will be 3 months between weighs this time. Today was my first NSV I tried on a pair of size 15 (from a size 22) jeans in the juniors dept and they fit like a glove. I don't get excited from my weight because it seems to be moving slow but moving none the less but those little jeans made me come home and wake my husband up to brag lol... whatever decision you make will be the best for you Good Luck!

    Post op with toddler?

In my experience, I had to separate from my child for a full week. My situation is different than yours because it is just my son and I living together in a house. I sent him away to live with his grandparents for a week and he was actually opposed to it. My son is much older than a toddler, but the point I'm going to touch on doesn't have much to do with age. It brings on more stress when your child is around and you are not well enough to play or even hold him. My own son did not understand how I could be sick when I looked fine on the outside. He ended up thinking he did something wrong, which broke my heart and made recuperation even more troublesome. My son did come over three times briefly during the week he was away so that he could see for himself that everything was going to be okay when he got back. I showed him my staples so that he better understood why I didn't feel well or get anymore incorrect notions about why he needed to go away for a week. I talked to him on the phone everyday, of course. I don't think it is a good idea to let your child see you in the hospital. This is just my opinion, and my situation is different than others. My own child had to deal with the death of his father at a young age and is a little more sensitive. I have worked with young children for 15 years (preschool director and public school teacher) and can tell you that they are more effected by a parent being sick or hurt than you may ever realize. It usually comes out in their paintings/drawings, dramatic play, or even aggressive behavior. Whatever you decide, just make sure that your young child is reassured that everything is okay. Any change in their normal routine could be confusing or upsetting and they need that reassurance and understanding. Good luck!
  12. Indeed I am!!! I don't have my date yet but I'm praying they will let me schedule it this week. I'm starting my prep diet Monday no matter what. If it means I'll have to be on it longer than the 4 weeks then so be it.
  13. I started my wls journey on March 1st at 557 had to do 6 month dietician supervised diet had surgery on 10/28/14 weighed 482. Today two weeks later I am 441.5. 14. Hi all - I am scheduled for a sleeve this Saturday 11/22. My biggest concern? Post-op healing with a 14 month old at home. Hubs is taking off two weeks to help me and we have an amazing sitter. But i am not able to lift my kid for four weeks. My demanding little chicken is not going to stand for that. To sleevers with young kids - any advice? Tips?
  15. Hi guys! So I'm just at 9 days post op and I just started to introduce protein shakes/thicker soups back into my diet. It takes me *forever* to eat, though, and every time I swallow what little bit I do put in my mouth, I get this weird pain/nausea/heartburn in my chest/upper stomach area. I take small, slow spoonfuls and space them out time-wise. Anyone else experience this or anything like it? Any tips?

    Post op day 5

Here's a tip I got - don't eat for more than 30 minutes. I am nearly 8 months out and cannot eat 3 oz chicken at one sitting. You can eat again in a few hours but if you just keep eating, your stomach is emptying and you keep filling it. You don't want that. Good job on the Powerade Zero. It takes time to get used to all this. That is why they tell you to sip slowly all day.

    How Long After Fill

I think it depends significantly on how good the person doing the fill is. When my doctor does it, I'm fine -- no soreness at all. BUT, the one time I had her nurse do it, I was sore for a week and was worried that he messed up my port. I now privately call him "Nurse Roughstuff" and refuse to let anyone other than my doctor do the fill. Catherine
  18. Hello all, I am a week post op from my gastric bypass surgery at Forest Park Dallas. I have lost 10 pounds so far and I am now pain free. I am amazed at the progression I have made in such a short time. I could not be happier, and I am ready for this journey to begin. I have been heavy all my life, and was the kind of girl who was always told, "You have such a pretty face, if you could just lose some weight." I was always thankful that if I had to be fat, at least I was pretty!! I am the "healthy fat" person; no diabetes, BP, cholesterol, heart issues at all. Most of the reason I chose to have the surgery was pure vanity. I have never been able to shop in a normal store, wear teal summer clothes, a bathing suit, fit in a bathtub, not have my thighs touch, and a whole miriad of other things that I want to do before I die, lol! I am tired of being hot all the time, sweating while I am getting ready for work, and always being the fat friend. However, I do have a family history of all the things mentioned, and I do have a 3 year old son to raise, so here we are!! I am now at the lowest weight I can remember which was in 2005. I have no idea what I am going to look like when this is all over, but I am ready for the ride!!!

    Post-op brain fuzziness

Yes I was very very fuzzy until about 2 1/2 -3 weeks out. It delayed my return to work. I am an application developer so working brain fog is not an option. I am sure immediately after surgery anesthesia and pain meds make you fuzzy but then the change and diet starts to take its toll. I told my doctor at my 2 week appt. They thought I was probably getting low in vitamin b. They cleared me to start taking my vitamins and start adding more protein to my diet and both those things helped. It will get better.! Hang in there!

    2 weeks post op

I have lost almost 20 pounds since my surgery on July 28. I just started introducing soft mushy foods today and I was able to eat three meals: Half a cup of hummus, half a cup of lentil Soup, and an Asian broth with soft tofu. For a snack I had quarter cup of cottage cheese and I felt totally totally full all day long. You do have to eat very slowly. It's a nice change of pace considering I used to eat so so so so quickly. Looking forward to the days to come. Tomorrow I plan to go to Boston market to get mashed potatoes and creamed spinach.

    Monday evening chuckle...

MELANIE (age 5) asked her Granny how old she was. Granny replied she was so old she didn't remember any more. Melanie said, "If you don't remember you must look in the back of your panties. Mine say five to six." STEVEN (age 3) hugged and kissed his Mom goodnight. "I love you so much that when you die I'm going to bury you outside my bedroom window." BRITTANY (age 4) had an earache and wanted a painkiller. She tried In vain to take the lid off the bottle. Seeing her frustration, her mom explained it was a childproof cap and she'd have to open it for her. Eyes wide with wonder, the little girl asked: "How does it knowit's me? SUSAN (age 4) was drinking juice when she got the hiccups. "Pleasedon't give me this juice again," she said, "It makes my teeth cough." DREW (age 4) stepped onto the bathroom scale and asked: "How much do I cost?" MARC (age 4) was engrossed in a young couple that were hugging and kissing in a restaurant. Without taking his eyes off them, he asked his dad: "Why is he whispering in her mouth?" CLINTON (age 5) was in his bedroom looking worried. When his mom asked what was troubling him, he replied, "I don't know what'll happen with this bed when I get married. How will my wife fit in?" JAMES (age 4) was listening to a Bible story. His dad read: "The man named Lot was warned to take his wife and flee out of the city but his wife looked back and was turned to salt." Concerned, James asked: "What happened to the flea?" TAMMY (age 4) was with her mother when they met an elderly, rather wrinkled woman her Mom knew. Tammy looked at her for awhile and then asked, "Why doesn't your skin fit your face?" The Sermon I think this mom will never forget.... this particular Sunday sermon..."Dear Lord," the minister began, with arms extended toward heaven and a rapturous look on his upturned face. "Without you, we are but dust." He would have continued but at that moment my very obedient daughter (who was listening!) leaned over to me and asked quite audibly in her shrill little girl voice, "Mom, what is butt dust?"
  22. Does anyone know if cutting your hair will slow down hair loss? I have mid back length hair and I am 6 months out from surgery. The last 2-3 months I have been losing my hair. My PA told me to get Biotin but I was wondering if a shorter hair style would help. I get between 70-90 gr Protein a day. I am 67 lbs down, can anyone help please.
  23. Well i got up this am and weighed and after a little under a week I finally lost another pound!!! Thank you God!!! I wonder if it is because I'm having problems with going to the bathroom. Anyways y'all have a great day!! Blessings, Tammy
