Getting ready to have this surgery

Do you have specific medical issues that necessitate you eat three “meals” a day because my nutritionist was fine with my having just a protein shake for breakfast. I would ask your nutritionist when you speak with them but if it was for medical reason I would ask the surgeon.

Getting ready to have this surgery

I have been averaging about 15lbs/month since surgery 12 weeks ago. Today for example, I restricted myself to only getting my protein bc I have been enjoying some various foods that I hadn’t been previously (small slice of veggie pizza, few French fries, bite of a sandwich, etc.). Yesterday I did a strong leg workout, too. Today I woke up and the scale was up .4 lbs and just said okay. Get to work. Have had 2 protein shakes and a packet of quest protein chips today. Met my goal. I’m not hungry - just drinking water, getting my vitamins / calcium - will maybe have a small salad or some fresh sweet peppers a little later. Fiber is always nice. This is mostly in response to you saying you skip meals. Just make sure you’re hitting your goals. This is a dreamy procedure when you stick to the plan!

How did I get to this weight?

It only takes a couple of weeks to break sugar's hold (unlike nicotine!), so after two weeks of pre-op diet and the first 3 weeks post surgery I'd broken its hold. Right after surgery, my taste for sugar was gone and it still isn't really back 8 months on. Sweet things were suddenly horrid, it was like a switch had been flicked. This happens to quite a lot of us, so hopefully you'll get that add-on bonus too! The only sweet things I like now are fruit (apples, grapes and berries, mainly). Anything that contains processed sugar makes me feel sick if I have more than a small taste. Quite the change from someone who could make a batch of hokey pokey and then proceed to eat it over the course of a single day!

    I'm struggling losing weight

3-4 weeks of stall. Majority of us have gone through it. When you're losing a huge amount of weight right after surgery (water weight) you're bound to stall for few weeks (as you regain water weight while lose fat/muscle simultaneously following weeks). Do watch the above shared video. Stalls will happen and you should be ready for it. Good Luck.

    Protein HELP

I dont think my plan is that far out with beef and honestly at 3 weeks out I have tried ground beef and did not have any trouble with it. Now that being said it was probably a teaspoon and a half only. I dont want to rock the boat lol

Getting ready to have this surgery

Most do really well and since its a tool some have better weight loss than others. My Dr told me it is not uncommon for some to lose 30 lbs in the first month post op but again depends on the person and the circumstances. I am 3 weeks post op and have only lost 14 lbs. I struggle or I should say my body does with letting loose of the excess weight. I am however losing inches everywhere. so thats a positive.

    I'm struggling losing weight

I have not lost anything in a full 3 weeks!! Im so aggravated beyond measure! I lost I think 22 lbs fast before surgery. after surgery (May 3rd) by day 9 I was down another 14 lbs. Nothing since not a single pound. In fact I go back and forth with gain a pound then lose the pound. It is very frustrating to say the least. My team tells me I hit an early plateau after 9 days.. because I lost 36 lbs quickly. But dang lol 3 weeks out and still nothing. Now all that being said I cannot exercise much because I am pending a knee replacement as far as walking goes. I used to tell myself it was because of that but the 22 lbs I lost pre surgery I did not exercise either. So unfortunately for me I have to suck it up and trust the process and hope for the best at this point. I am very discouraged tho to say the least. It wears on me pretty heavily. I do notice clothes fitting loose and my boobs have took a big hit to my husbands dismay lol. Thighs and hips also are seeing inches coming off but that darn scale doesnt move lol

    2 1/2 yrs. Post op

Thank you for answering. Went to Dr. it was an extract oil I had started taking. Dr. Said to take at night instead of morning. Relieved not associated with surgery. Other then this incident I have had great success with my surgery. Very happy I did it and worth every uncomfortable moment in the beginning. I am down 3 sizes, lost 75 pounds, feel so much better. Dr. said if I had surgery to get rid of excess skin I'd loose another 5-7 pounds. Due to limited movement from an injury, I am considering it, as I am unable to do the great workouts I use to do. I still see myself as an overweight, obese person. But everyone tells me how great I look. Went to three weddings recently, I look at the photos, cannot believe I see the person in the photo!! It's me and I look damm good!! Keep the faith and you will succeed!! Sent from my SM-G960U using BariatricPal mobile app

Yes I lost five pounds my first week but not everyone does. Lots of things like inflammation and fluids can affect weight that early out. It is hard. It’s good that you are already starting to distinguish head hunger from actual hunger though. Are you allowed to have sugar free popsicles and jello. I had lots of those because I felt like I got to chew which helped.

    I'm struggling losing weight

If you truly are logging and measuring everything precisely, and your intake is under 600 calories it is impossible for you not to lose weight. It has to be the three week stall. Sometimes it can last a little while. I know it’s hard but try to trust the process. The weight loss will start again soon.

    May 2022 surgery?

Yay! I'm still a week away but can't wait. I am really looking forward to some refried beans and the ricotta bake.
  21. I know y'all are probably tired if seeing my post lol. But I'm struggling at losing weight. It's been 5 weeks since my surgery and I haven't lost anything in 3 weeks. My dr said it's sluggish. I'm going to call my nutritionist but not sure how much help she will be. I'm not cheating at all. I'm completely on the plan. I thought maybe it was my protein. (Not getting enough). But even with getting 60g or more. I still haven't lost. What's going on with me 😭😭😭. I'm still under 600 calories. Geez how can I not be losing on eating 600 calories or less. I need to get this figured out.

    Sore throat

It could also just be a sore throat which unfortunately was the first symptom my husband just had with COVID last week. I would get a test.

  24. Hello surgery buddies, for the past 4 weeks when i pee, my peel smells like my protein shakes. I take the fairlife ones. But am drinking my liquids, i dont make it to 64, usually 50 something oz daily. And my nails stopped growing, and now britlle and breaking that it hurts to grab things. My hair loss is better, stopped thinning and got a hair cut last week. I had my RNY Nov 2021 down 107lbs today. Im meeting with my dietician in 2 week in person to shop at the store and read labels properly. Thank you! Sent from my SM-G973U using BariatricPal mobile app
  25. I experienced the same thing. Was eating less than 900 calories when I reached my goal & struggled for a while to physically eat more at any one time too. I had to snack & increased them until I was snacking 5 times a day. And yes I felt like I was eating all day long. My weight loss continued albeit very slowly & finally about 11 months after goal. I was still seeing my dietician through the first 6 months of this 11 months (Covid hit). For my snacks I added a second sometimes third serve of carbs (multigrain crackers), hummus, nuts, 1or 2 serves of fruit, protein bar, cheese, liverwurst, peanut paste, chia pudding, & used salad dressings. My dietician also suggested adding milk powder to my milk but I found it too sweet except in chia pudding. I eventually reached about 1300 calories. It can take a little time to sort this out in a way the best suits you. While you may lose more initially, you may also have a bounce back in your 2nd/3rd year as @catwoman7 said as you settle into a way of eating that complements how you want to live & enjoy your life. I eventually was able to eat about a recommended portion size of most foods (& I do eat slowly) & reduced my snacks to three a day. I am careful about what I eat 90% of the time. At my lowest I was 48.2kg but settled at 49kg for a good year. I put on 2 kgs a few months ago after I went on a higher dose HRT med & I had to add more protein to my diet due to an absorption issue (from my gall removal last year not my sleeve). I made some small changes to my diet but I still eat more calories as a result of the extra protein so the weight gain is understandable. All the best.
