    Anyone for October 2020?

No soft food until week 4-5 - yikes. Did she/he provide any recommendations on how to get there other than siping on protein shakes all day? And by soft, can you have yogurt, cottage cheese, and oatmeal now? Adding another protein shake would add some calories and plenty of protein until you hit week 4 later this week. Even then, an egg is only about 6 gas of protein compared to the 20-30 in 11oz of protein shake.

    Anyone for October 2020?

Looks like your post was cut little short, but glad to see you are acclimating to the new life and getting around. I have three more days of liquid and can't wait to jump into the next phase. Hopefully the addition of some yogurt will help with the "black tongue" issue I've noticed of late.

    Atkins protein

My preference is making my own using Syntrax Nectur w/ yogurt and/or frozen fruit & Silk milk. I keep Premier Protein shakes in my refrigerator so if I'm in a hurry I can just grab one & go. I order Premier Protein from their website. You can get a pack of 18 which you can't get from Costco. I get my Syntrax Nectur from Amazon or The Vitamin Shoppe.

    Best way to get protein

At almost 2 years out I can almost eat anything. Some meals are always the same. Breakfast is always Greek yogurt and berries. My lunch is usually a bit like pick and mix - a bit of a few things, Which could be a selection of these, Smoked salmon, deli meats, burrata, cashew nuts, walnuts, blue stinky cheese, any fruit, tuna, boiled egg or any left over from a previous meal. The evening meal is usually food cooked from scratch for the family with carbs that I can not fit in my stomach yet, casseroles, roasts, pies, stews. I eat what I can. Later in the day I either eat my meals, left overs or have a protein bar or a protein yogurt. My protein is about 80 grams a day now and my calories are between 1200 and 1500

    Ode To Pumpkin

Pumpkin also delivers a punch of potassium, a comely amount of copper, an interesting bit of iron, a pleasing amount of magnesium and a fair amount of fiber. A caution for bariatric patients is the 10 grams of carbohydrates found in a ½ cup pumpkin puree. And who doesn’t love carving Jack-O-Lanterns with your children (or just for you) for All Hallow’s Eve? Who has not posted adorable pictures of their kiddos in your local Pumpkin Patch? You can prepare your own pumpkin puree or stock up on the canned type. Perhaps our greatest love of pumpkin awaits us at Thanksgiving with our beloved pumpkin pie. One estimate says Americans eat 50 million pumpkin pies at Thanksgiving. Alas, a pie is known as a confection loaded with sugar and fat. What is the bariatric patient to do? Modify the recipe, of course! Lower the sugar and fat and pump up the protein is the goal. Try the Pumpkin Pie pudding recipe on the BariatricPal website. If you need a pumpkin treat before Thanksgiving, there are many pumpkin-flavored protein shakes, protein bars and yogurts in the stores right now. So, pumpkin can be a health partner this season. Enjoy!
  6. IndioGirl55 Thanks for your reply. I did call my doctor and he said it is from the hiatal hernia repair. It is causing a vaso-vagal response because of the swelling. He said to give it 4 or 5 more days without the jello or yogurt and try it again.

Newbie has question about carbs and sugar

Blue Bunny makes a great low cal/low sugar/low carb yogurt.. it is only 50 calories and I LOVE it.... I can only find it at Wal Mart though. :frown:
  8. the turnaround for me was under a week! I am pre banded(enduring the 6 month doc sup deit) but wanted to try some of them Proteins drinks to find one I liked. The Unjury is GREAT. I have had al but the chicken Soup. I can't bring myself to try that one. I don't have them hot. I make a 1 scoop unjury shake in the morning with a 1/4c of frozen strawberries and 1/4 c FAGE Yogurt. Yummy and super nutritious. I wonder about the bits of strawberry post op. I will probably wean myself off of the fruit. I make the same shake with Van, Choc and strawberry flavors on different days. I last signed up for auto delivery which yields a small discount. :rolleyes2:
  9. I ate pretty regularly. I was just really label conscious. It will work for you, and everyone's body is different. Also, my sleeve is shorter than most patients since they had to remove more tissue during my leak repair. Your sleeve may be a bit bigger than mine, or your body may be adjusting differently. Some days, I can take more food in, but I think a lot of my issues go back to having to eat so slowly, and chewing excessively. I still don't have hunger, and if we go out to eat, my husband and son, know that we'll be at the restaraunt for at least an hour. I have trained myself to eat super slow. It's a habit now. If I take my time, I can eat more at one sitting. I relied on greek yogurt and laughing cow cheese. When I got to soft solids, I ate deli meat with laughing cow. I did have a couple of weeks where mashed potatoes were my staple. But, I only ate about 2 oz of them. They were super filling. I would say that 90% of the time I stayed below 30 grams of a carbs a day. Some day, I would have a few more, but I never got over 50 carbs a day. It was just a rule I followed within my surgeon's and nutritionist post-op diet. Now, I'm getting in more carbs because I'm trying to maintain.
  10. Vitamin deficiency please help

I do the Procare Health one-a-day capsule with 45mg of Iron. I have no issues taking large pills, but if you do, you might have to open it and put it in Yogurt or something. They also make a twice a day capsule that I assume is smaller if that's what you need? I looked at the specs on eight different bariatric vitamins and felt like the Procare Health capsule was the best. (It was also the ones my team recommended.)

    Protein shake recipes

If you like milk, there is a heap of protein in it. Add milk powder or yogurt with fruit and its good and easy on the pocket
  13. Hi all, I had a fill today. First in 2 years. Apparently I have a 10ml ring and I'm at 6ml today. Came home, had some drinking yogurt. Took me about 30 mins to drink 150ml, tried coffee a while later, not much luck. My esophagus has a bubbly sensation and is making funny noises. Will this go away? Will die of embarrassment in public. Dreading solids if this is how I react to liquids. Doc is so far. Only three in the country Sent from my SM-G925F using the BariatricPal App
  14. I feel the same way, PoohBear22! I'm hungry too! Just watching my family eat everything has been very hard. I have just had Protein shakes & popsicles. This Thursday, I can have yogurt, oatmeal & fudge pops. Bring it on ; ) Hang in there!

    February Surgery Buddies!

Hugs and prayers to all who've had surgery already. I pray you are feeling better each day and able to accomplish post-surg goals with ease!! To all who are still yet to come in February! Remember the liquid diet from hell is only temporary and we can endure anything for 2 weeks! I can attest that once you're on the other side, the liquid protein phase is a cinch to undertake. No hunger, easy satiety with the liquids, no feeling of deprivation or food angst! It's hard to imagine such a severe about face once post-surgery but it's true!! I'm doing great. It's now 4 days post and I'm up walking, drinking normally, yesterday got in 98oz of liquids including proteins. This morning had thinned down yogurt for brekky and did great. Now having protein iced tea and loving it. So all is well. Have already walked 2 times today and will do another stint here after lunch. Naps are my friend! Oh how I love mah naps! Cheers everyone!!
  16. I saw the dietitian today and I thought I might share the type of diet she is putting me on before and after. For those of you who like natural, not processed foods this is a good one. Before Breakfast 1.5dl of milk (2% is fine but 1% or skim is better) or 1 light yogurt 1 piece of bread about 25g (any type of wheat, or grains type as long as it isn't a cake type of bread) may have light cheese, fresh cheese, butter(1/2 tb), or a slice of ham/turkey/chicken to put on the bread (may toast if you like) (don't mix meat and cheese, choose either meat OR cheese) Mid morning snack 1 piece of fruit (medium sized apple, 8 strawberries, slice of melon etc.) 1/2 piece of bread or 4 crackers (saltine) (you must always eat a piece of bread or crackers after eating fruit. It helps absorb the fructose in the fruit before your body does.) lunch 2.5dl of vegetable Soup (see my thread on Portuguese vegetable Soups eggs 2 small potatoes or 3 soup spoons of rice or 3 soup spoons of Pasta (cooked) salad (as much as you like, olive oil and vinegar dressing or light low fat dressing) Mid afternoon snack 1 light yogurt 1 piece of fruit 1/2 piece of bread or 4 crackers dinner You can do a repeat of lunch here, or 1 bowl of soup (vegetable not chicken noodle or something) 1 bread or 4 crackers 1 slice of cheese, or fresh cheese, or ham or butter. Just before bed 2dl of milk or 1 light yogurt Conversions: 1 cup = 2.37dl 1 oz = 28.35g 1 fl oz = 29.6ml Drink Water, or tea, or fresh squeezed fruit juice. She said you can put sugar substitutes in the drinks. *no more then 2 eggs per week After 1º phase +-15/30 days liquids between 50 to 100ml for each meal Eat at least once every 2 hours Only eat things that go through a straw May eat any of the following: liquid yogurts (full fat), milk (2%), soups that contain no fibrous vegetables and that have been completely liquefied, natural fruit juices with no pulp, and 2 nutritional supplements called Fantomalk and Protifar (one is for carbs the other is protein) May NOT eat:sugar, any thing fibrous, anything solid 2º phase +-15 days Mushies +-100 ml for each meal Eat at least once ever 2 hours 3º phase +- 1 month solid food Chew VERY well Select food that you can tolerate well and don't force those foods that you cant. Pay attention to the quantity you can eat at each meal. Eat at least once every 2 hours 4º phase 2 to 3 months after surgery Solid foods Chew VERY well Eat at least once every 2 hours Introduce almost all of your normal foods (the types of food on the pre diet) Try not to at thing very fibrous or of a fibrous consistency Enjoy and message me if you have any questions or if something isn't clear.

Some good, quick, healthy breakfast ideas??

Of course this is all dependant on what you can tolerate (I've heard some bandsters have trouble with eggs). A Protein bar is good if you're on the go. When I was traveling a lot for work, I'd do a quick Protein shake in the A.M. and drink it in the car. I also used to make a few hard boiled eggs to keep in the fridge and eat one on the go/in the car. Light yogurt with 1/4 cup cheerios or honey nut cheerios serves 2 purposes-protein AND fiber. And its good, too. I know, sounds gross, but it's really good. Those yogurt smoothie drinks. oatmeal I love toast with peanutbutter and a few banana slices *I ALWAYS make an effort to have protein with breakfast, even if it's only peanutbutter or milk. It holds off my appetite and gives me energy.

    August Band Crew!!!!!

For those of you who are feeling tired, a nutritionist friend of mine said to be sure to drink lots of Water and take in lots of Protein. I have at least 120 grams a day. I eat lo-fat mozarella sticks, yogurt, drink Isopure and add unjury to just about everything. Yesterday I was able to eat a small amount of chicken (about 1/4 of 1 small breast) and 5 pieces of cooked asparagus and felt full and fine. I chewed till the cows came home before I swallowed. I had a mid evening snack of popcorn which presented no problem. No hunger, pain, or gas, can sleep on my stomach, and have returned to full exercise. I take in around 800-900 calories per day.

Losha- If you are ready for the surgery, you are ready for a life change. I've been morbidly obese for 15 years, and you must realize that this is not a cure all, and that the liquid diet, the semi soft diet, and following your doctors orders will be your goal. I've had the band since 8/2/06, and even tonight, I realized that I ate my yogurt too fast. There will be days when you don't loose weight, and days when you do. It will stop the yoyo syndrome, and you won't be able to eat a lot at one time, but you will suceed if you follow your doctors orders, so that should be your goal - my best to you and good luck Caroline
  22. guacamole. applesauce. Refried black beans with fat free sour cream. Egg drop soup. Fish (tilapia) poached in seasoned chicken broth with summer squash. (YUM) whipped sweet potatoes. Baked butternut squash. mashed banana. Cauliflower cooked in broth and mashed. yogurt. creamed spinach. cheese souffle. egg custard. cream of wheat. red beans and rice mashed. smooth peanut butter. These were my favorites during "mushies". May not be your preferences, but they're suggestions.

    Fell off the wagon...

I would like to introduce you to my two new best friends...Frozen Wild Bluberries and Frozen Sunburst mangos. These two things are great when you have that "head hunger". It is really hard to get out of the habit of eating while doing mindless activities (like watching your fav tv show). So I will put my 1 cup serving of frozen fruit into a bowl (the mangos I have plain, the blueberries with 1/2 cup of vanilla fat free yogurt) and watch my show and munch away. The mangos are like having a little treat. They are like a little fruity sorbet. You can't eat them fast because they are so cold and they are conveniently cut into bite size pieces. My nutritionist recommended them for those time when you really want to eat something, but don't think it's stomach hunger, or for when you are really hungry and need to tide yourself over until meal time (like afternoon or late evening snack). I've founds them to be extrememly convenient as well as satisfying. I absolutely HATE yogurt, but putting the blueberries in is great. They are naturally sweet and as they thaw they give off quite a bit of juice which makes the yogurt really sweet and not tasting like yogurt at all. This is a bonus for my fellow yogurt haters.

Jamie, I'm sorry you're having such a rough recovery. Hang in there, it'll get better each day. I weighed myself this am and am "only" down 6lbs since surgery on 8/15. I haven't lost any weight in the last 4 days. I have no idea why this is so discouraging for me, but it is! I mean, heck, I'm only getting about 500 cals a day, shouldn't I lose SOMETHING????? I know the healing time is supposed to be about healing, not losing, but with only eating Soups, pudding, low fat yogurt, and runny oatmeal, I figured I'd lose. I think it's making me worry that, if I can't lose weight on this super-restricted diet, how am I going to lose when I progress to soft and regular foods. I have my follow up appointment on Tuesday and am paranoid they are going to be disappointed in how little weight I've lost since surgery. I know I'm being mental about this and need to just quit weighing and quit stressing, but man! I'm going to drive myself nuts at this rate. No more weighing from now on, except on Fridays!

Kmwwmk... unfortunately I think you're just gonna have to suffer it out. I doubt there's a way to get it to digest any faster. Maybe sip water or hot tea? I think this happened because you're eating too fast. I've had yogurt and felt like I was going to explode after 6 oz and it was because I didn't eat it slow enough to give my body time to tell me STOP! I hope you feel better soon.
