  1. Hi all. Ive been a lurker of this site for quite a while now and finally joined tonight. Im currently researching getting the band, im very excited by it all. I dont have a appoitment yet to see consultant but soon will. Im going to advanced cosmetic surgery in Dublin. Has anyone here ever been banded there? I havent weighed myself in ages so dont know what i am but last time i did i was about 19 stone which is terrible. I am 21years old. Im about 5 foot five in height so as you can see im seriously over weight. I have tried various diets including unislim, ww, lipotrim, atkins. Nothing worked for me. I am really at the end of my tether, i feel so lonely, depressed (not even wanting to go outside now) I have a gorgeous 2year old daughter and a fab fiance. My weight really started to creep up when i became a stay at home mum. My partner is great, & very supportive. He only weighs 10stone so i feel very uncomfortable talking to him about my weight. I have always been big, national school, secondary school, college. And now still. I want to start living my life and once and for all get rid of this weight. Ive already had my gollstones and gallbladder out. Cant wait to get chatting on the site Sweet-tooth!!:cheer2:

  3. How much weight have you lost?? I had surgery on February 23rd weighing at 254lbs Current weight 210.2lbs
  4. Look at peoples tickers or info on the side - that should give you some ideas I lost all of the excess weight in about 6 months. On the last 15 lbs to goal
  5. The sleeve has an up to 70% of the excess weight loss rate in the first year. Going off your call out. At 6 foot 1, 394.9, your projected losses are: 61 lbs by 3 months post op 103 lbs by 6 months post op 144 lbs by 12 months post op. Calculations drop to 60% of the excess for the next 2 years or so, and then 55% for the next 3 years. https://www.bariatric-surgery-source.com/gastric-sleeve-success-rate.html

    Slow Weight Loss

I haven't been sleeved yet, but maybe you should think of it as for every ounce/pound lost is an ounce/pound you WILL NEVER GAIN BACK AGAIN Isn't that nice. Bet you couldn't say that before. By the end of the month, add up all those ounces/pounds you have lost so far and I'll bet you will be happy. I only hope I can follow my same words for myself, as I know I am a slow loser - I mean really slow. Good luck

    Now post op

Good luck!! I'm 5 days post op 1/8/15 and have been in the hospital since ! Got discharged on night but had to go to the ER again due to extreme nausea and lightheadess. Have low potassium but my issue I have not had a bowel movement and weight 2 lbs more than surgery date!!' any similar experience ? I have gas and need to pass gas and walking isn't helping what do you folks suggest ?
  8. My surgery is 2 weeks from tomorrow. My surgeon doesn't do the liquid diet so I'm just on a really restricted low cal/low fat/low EVERYTHING tasty diet I've lost 15 lbs. so far. My fear is this won't be enough to make a significant difference in my liver size before surgery. I'm hoping to lose more before surgery but my weight loss slowed down a lot once I hit about 14 lbs. How will I know if I've done enough? I have a pre-op appointment with my surgeon and the hospital tomorrow and I'm not sure what to expect from that or if I'll have to do liquids in the last few days before surgery either.

    Frustrated and Pissed off!

AMEN! I see sooooo many people on these forums every day complaining about their "slow" loss. Hell, I've been one of those people! But this race to the finish line is a remnant of our old diet mentality. In the past, when we have tried to lose weight, we have wanted to lose it fast, because we wanted to be "done" with our diet. We'll never be done with WLS. We have permanently altered our digestive systems in such a way that we can never fully return to our old habits. And we have to work every single day to get in our Protein and Water and exercise. That will never stop. When we get to goal, we still need protein and water and exercise. So what is the rush? Why does it matter if it takes 6 months or 16 months? I know it can be frustrating. I've lost weight faster "on my own" in the past too. I've been in a stall for over a month now and it's can be pretty trying at times to stay motivated to keep on track with my food and exercise. But the great thing now is I'm not gaining. In the past, had I reached this point on my old diets, I'd be regaining like crazy. At least this is just a stall.

    Peanut butter!

Be very careful with Peanut Butter and peanuts or nuts in general. I know from personal experience that they will sabotage your weight loss if you consume too much. I didn't lose weight for over a month because I was eating a few teaspoons of peanut butter in a bowl with a spoon every night and/or peanuts during the day.

    Medicare?

Did any of you have to require to lose or what happens if u gained throughout your nutrition classes
  12. JustJulie

    Medicare?

I haven't been to a Nut class or seen the surgeon yet but I am trying to lose anyway. I've lost 28 pounds since first of December. Gained back 11(was on prednisone for a week) and now lost 4 more so total of 20 pound loss in a little over 2 months. I have slowed down on my sofa I take, started drinking more water- I made it to about 57 ounces yesterday- so I'm getting there. I assume the dr will want me to lose some weight before surgery - but just have no idea what to expect until I see him. Right now I'm waiting for my pcp to send in letter of recommendation and the hospital will then submit to my insurance. Then idk what to expect.... but I hope it doesn't take too long! I am so ready to get this surgery and lose this weight.
  13. Hey everyone! My name is Melissa and I'm 20 years old. I'm working towards getting banded with Dr. Ben-David at Shands at the University of Florida. I've already been to my consultation and also to my psychiatry evaluation. I'm really nervous about everything. I am trying to be positive but it's so hard sometimes. I'm not use to not being in control of things like this and it sucks to have to have insurance make the final decision. I will seriously cry my eyes out if I don't get approved. I was told by Dr. Ben-David to try and lose 20 pounds by surgery which is yet to be determined when and I'm having a really difficult time trying to lose weight. I'm so scared that he won't operate if I don't lose anything! I'm one to worry about pretty much anything and everything. I've never wanted anything more in my life and if I don't get this, I will be devastated.
  14. You aren't fat. You weren't even that fat in the before picture. In The after you have an hourglass shape. Slim. highest weight = 228 DOS = 219 CW = 201 DOS was May 7th 2013
  15. I'm 2.5 weeks out...lost a good amount the first week I think it was 7 lbs. The next week I weighed on my own scale but the scale at doc and mine do not match. I'm just going with my scale and it put me at about -24lbs in 2 wks. I've been weighing daily for the past week and it seems I'm losing about .5lbs a day---so minus 3-3.5 a week. Sound about right? I think I like that number.

    Starting to Freak Out (Hair)

I lost a lot of hair from months 3-5. Judging from the diameter of my pony tail I would say 40-50% of the volume. But, literally no one can tell, unless I pull my hair back and the loss at my hairline and temples becomes obvious. And everyone will be so amazed at how good you look from your weight loss, they won't even notice your hair.

    South Beach Diet

Hi All, I've just moved from Texas to Buffalo, NY and am seeing a new doctor. I have been instructed to go on the South Beach Diet in order to facilitate weight loss. I've not been doing very well on the band. I lost 40 lbs in 11 months and then regained 12 in the past 6 weeks. Anyone had success with South Beach? Anyone not had success with the band? Apparently I'm a rare case. Lucky me. Monica
  18. My Dr. told me one year. Hes upset that I got pregnant 4 months later but only because he says you lose the most weight your first year. I will get back on track as soon as my baby is born!

    What about the skin? ?

I agree with the above statement it depends on how fast you loose the weight, where you hold the most weight s well s how your weight was distributed and of course your elastic in your skin. I work out 5 days a week and so far I'm looking great and I have lost 98 pounds so far and I am 8 months post opt. My skin Is handling the lost great so just try to exercise as much as you can and then you will know for sure . I am 44 years old so I think I look great so far lol.

    Pre Op Help

Hi! I was in a similar situation. I saw a psychiatrist and did not get cleared over miscmmunicatipn with his intern. My surgeon would not give me a date so I got a new surgeon and his psychiatrist cleared me for surgery. I am now waiting to get my date. It kind of sucked BC I lost my 400 dollar program fee with my first surgeon but now I'm about to get a date so I don't think about money lost. I say if you don't get cleared get a new psych evaluation and don't be so honest and open about your feelings. If you feel you are strong enough to do this show them that and don't focus on how bad the weight is making you feel. Talk to someone on the side about that. They mainly want to see you are mentally stable enough for surgery. Put a smile on and I hate to say this and it's probably bad advise but lie lie lie your way if you have to. I hope this helps a little even if it just makes you smile
  21. Hello everyone! I am so excited and scared but happy to be soon joining you all as a loser lol. I am from NC and since 2005, I have wanted the surgery. Unfortunately, at that time I was at 34 BMI with no health issues. Fast foward to 2009 I was at 43 but no insurance anymore. Today I am at 41 and as my my says, have cash, will travel lol. I know there are many other docs in Mexico that are better known but the one I chose seems to put me at ease and also is what my budget can afford since aftercare will be self-pay as well. I have been on a low carb diet since the 7th and lost a total of 18 pounds so far but will fluctuate a day or so before the number changes. I don't mind that as long as it goes down sooner or later. But the pre-op diet is coming this Sunday so I am really gonna miss having the option of a meal if I want for about the next couple months though I am sure my heart will love the weight loss! Anyway, just wanted to say hello and though I doubt anyone is, just seeing if anyone else is gonna be using or used Dr. Ponce DeLeon in Tijuana?

    No change to A1C

Maybe not enough weight is off yet. Or like my mother they could have thought it was type 2 and it turns out it is type 1 and not too much weight related. Congrats on the 54 pds I hope you solve this issue!
  24. I think really and my Doctor said the same thing once I got down to my goal weight he set me at which was 190 and I actually got down to 185 "awesome" right ? Sadly no, for me I was a large man all my life and when i reached the 185 mark, really looked like I was using drugs. I even was drug tested a few times from my employer > guess they had thoughts of me on something ? Anyways, I actually work towards gaining a little weight just to look and feel healthy. That is what the weight loss surgery's are for to get your body to a healthy way of living. So with that I gained 30 pounds just to look normal and not all bones at the beach. funny how I use to be bullied all my life for being Fat and when I got so skinny, I was being picked on like I was skin and bones. Ah the way life sends you humor.
  25. After a long month of complications following my brachioplasty I finally got my sutures removed! Looking forward to being able to get in the gym again for sure. I have a lovely 17 lb weight gain to work off. Despite the complications, popped my running stitch & had major gaping, I'm so happy I did it. Looking forward to feeling comfortable wearing tank tops!
