  1. How was the procedure? How are you doing now a year later after revision? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  3. Hi NYC1992, Congrats on your new journey!! Sounds like you are doing great! I had just created a new post to ask for people's stories on skin revision surgeries and the pain they had went through. I have seen shows about skin revisions, and they all seem horribly painful. Would you mind advising your experience, and if you would recommend it? Thanks!!
  4. Hello everyone!! I am just a month post-op now and have lost 34 pounds already, so I am thrilled with my progress so far. I know this was the right decision for me, and although I am only one month out, I am concerned about what my body will look like once I am down to the weight I want to be. I know I will have saggy skin/chest, and I knew that was a strong possibility before I decided to have the surgery. Its not something that would have ever changed my mind though. I have watched so many shows about people having skin revision surgeries, and they seem to be in so much pain!! I have had 10 surgeries in my life, so I am no stranger to pain, but, I just don't know if I want to put myself through it. Here are the surgeries I have had: 1) broke my leg in high school so had to have a rod put in my femur 2) had a bone infection for almost a year, so after my leg was healed, they took the rod out 3) c-section 4) c-section (and to add, my boobs are already saggy because of these 2 children, LOL!) 5) gallbladder removed 6) lumbar laminectomy with fusion 7) got infection from the back surgery, so they opened me up to clean it out 8) had to go back in again because of the infection 9) had cyst removed from my palm 10 gastric sleeve My back surgeries were by far the most painful surgeries I have ever been through, but skin revision surgery really scares me. I don't know what I will look like once I am done, but I can only imagine I will need a lot of work. If I do anything, it probably would only be my stomach and a breast lift. I would probably just live with my arms and legs. The gastric sleeve surgery was probably the easiest surgery I have ever had...that and the cyst removed from my palm. The only pain I really had from the sleeve was from lying on my back for the 2 days I was in the hospital. I cannot lie on my back anymore (comfortably) since I have had my back surgery, so that caused quite a bit of pain. The gastric sleeve itself was almost painless. Anyway, long story short, I was wanting to hear from people who have had skin/chest revision surgeries, and how the pain was for them. I know everyone is different, but I was just interested to hear some stories and if people would recommend it, or say it wasn't worth it. Thanks in advance to everyone!
  5. Day 3 or 4, I felt really good with the exception of stomach muscular pain (like overworked ab muscles). After 7 years lap band, I had the band to sleeve revision which may be why for my speedy recovery. Decided to add this: I did have trouble feeling hungry and that bothered me, but after day 16 when my stomach swelling went down, the fake hunger feelings dropped off. 6. I don't know how much I CAN eat, I just know how much I do eat in order to maintain my loss. The latter is much less than the former. I also know from years of watching postop WLS patients come and go from my support group that those that let their surgeries dictate their portions never reached goal or always regained. And this is true for all surgery types. It's the mental work that determines long term success. In general, those that had revision surgery were not any more successful the second time around than the first unless they put the time and effort in with a therapist. The best thing you can do, going into another surgery is work with a mental health professional to figure out 1) why and how you became obese in the first place....those answers will help you change what needs to change. 2) figure out why your pouch stretched and don't repeat those things with the sleeve. There is much debate whether or not a sleeve stretches, but even the smallest sleeve can be made useless with poor food choices, grazing, etc. The fact you are looking for an excuse to be able to eat larger portions isn't exactly a good starting point.
  7. @shedo82773. Years ago the procedure was much more dangerous. It was done as an open procedure and there was a high mortality rate. Now it is a relatively safe procedure There is regimented vitamin protocals and structured diets and numerous protein shakes that do not taste like chalk Hence the high success rate. That's why I chose the rny as a revision

    Best Decision I Ever Made.

I had band removed in February 2016. Weight started coming back just got revised to rny. Weight is dropping Proves if you follow the rules RNY works. Once you have the taste of being normal weight for eight years , it is hard to go back. Best of luck to you

    Pregnancy complications?

I had a baby after being sleeved in 2012, got pregnant 11 months after sleeve. Baby is healthy, had to have a revision from sleeve to gastric bypass after. Stay positive, don't think it's your sleeve. Sent from my XT1585 using the BariatricPal App
  10. I am 16 months out since getting the sleeve. Had revision from band to sleeve. Now in this maintenance phase i see that it is much harder to maintain the weight loss since the " honeymoon" period is basically over and now the hard part of this lifestyle begins. I been going up and down with weight. I was down to 179 lbs and now i see my weight going up and down to 185-188 lbs range. Don't know what to expect now in this stage and also the reality that now i am going like a yoyo with my weight. I am aware that after one year you are more hungrier and the ghrelin hormone does climb up more. Need pointers from fellow sleevers on what their experience has been and i know many or some of you can relate to my situation. Thank you. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Not my best self lately...

I am weighing in at 186 this morning and it is near my lowest sustained adult weight and yet I feel like a FAT failure. I am 18 months post op from band to sleeve revision and I was supposed to weigh 135 pounds (in my mind) by now. Instead? I got down to 169 pounds around month eight but could not sustain. Have mainly hovered at 182 for the past year but this past month I have been up and down from 185-192 pounds. I started a reset today and really need to get myself back on track. I need to get to goal! I am worth it!

    3 month bloodwork

@@Shaunie That's great! I don't know why but I'm really excited to see my first blood work too. My pre-op for my band to sleeve revision was perfect, and although I feel really good (post op day 29), I so want to see another blood test to see how my body adapted to my sleeve. Congratz!
  13. I am 17 months post op band to sleeve revision. I reached my lowest weight of 169 at month 8 I think. But I would move 3-5 lbs up and down. I sat at 180 for a good 4 months but this past month I am up 5 more pounds. Reading these posts is inspiring. I am doing a full reset starting now! I was never at goal let alone going back to fat! This final 35-40 pounds needs to get and stay gone! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  14. Has anyone gained 70 or so back? I had mine done 8 years ago and 5 years ago i became pregnant and had a beautiful little girl. I didn't get approval from my new insurance until this year to see a team that deals with patients who have had the surgery done. I had to take the long route and ask for a revision to even get approval. I didn't want another surgery but if it was the only way to see the doctor and his support team then so be it. But after the baby i became depressed and basically im finally getting back to my normal self or well adjusting to a new normal. And the team is wonderful to me. I am currently doing a reset of 48 hours but i tend to emotionally eat. Im alot better but there are times when it hits me out of the blue. I do see a psychiatrist twice a month. But, if anyone has regained a huge amount what was the things or items that helped you get it back off? Im not cleared for anything other than a slow walk right now. Im hoping after 3 months of getting back to Vitamins and Protein shakes and higher protein foods that i can get back into kettle bells but right now Dr. Condor says just walk about a half an hour a day. Thank You!
  15. Yeah surgery done. So happy was able to have the revision. Dr said my band was wrapped around my esophagus like a necklace. Extra day in hospital cause my blood pressure dropped way low but going home today. So happy I did this just getting down sips of Water with no problems just can't stomach broth for Breakfast. Hope everyone is doing well Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  20. Two people in my life had Lap-Band. One of them had it revised to a sleeve. The other person, (who is my wife, but we're separated) I saw struggle with the Lap -Band in the presence of a significant eating disorder, including bulimia. She has managed the bulimia to some extent and has kept off about 60 lbs. Seeing her struggle has been one of the reasons I put off surgery for so long. Another reason was that I didn't want any thing "permanently" left in my body (yes, I know it can be removed through surgery). I also knew I didn't want to have my organs and intestines rearranged through bypass surgery, so I stalled...for a few years. Neither felt right. Recently, at the end of May/ early June, I came across an article on Gastric Sleeve and felt this would be the best surgery for me. Everyone's needs and wants are different, but I just wanted to share my experience, so far. Also, my surgeon (Dr. Atwa, East Setauket, NY) said that he removes more Lap-Bands than he puts in. I think him and the other doctors no longer do the lap band. Good luck on your journeys, whatever surgery you choose. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using the BariatricPal App
  21. I sell chicken for a living so yes, I can relate. Most of what I sell is breaded, deep fried bits of yumminess so I'm expecting it to be a bit challenging. I have a lapband currently but will be revising to VSG as soon as approved. The toughest part for me is when I participate in trade shows but I've been doing it for over six years with the band.

    Worried about maintenance

Man, I can totally relate to this topic. I had surgery in March, and have surpassed my original goal weight (185), and now am less than 10 lbs away from my revised goal weight (165). Who knows, I may revise my goal again just to avoid maintenance, LOL. It is such a mental game. Yeah, I know what I need to do, but I'm afraid I'll slip into old habits. Even after losing FAR more weight than I ever have, even after changing the way I approach food, and maintaining that approach for almost 8 months, I STILL doubt myself. With good reason - I have lost so much weight (never this much), so many times, and always regained. Failure, after failure, after failure. I know it's different know, but I still fear it. I have been successful at losing weight many times, but have NEVER been successful at keeping it off.

    Surgery FINALLY scheduled

It's not easy. When I had the band I cheated throughout the two week liquid diet phase. Now with me getting a revision and getting sleeved, I'm taking it so much more serious this go round. My liquids start on 10/12 and I'm going shopping this weekend to get a variety of things ( in compliance) so that I don't get bored. We can do this! It's not fun and I'll be whining in a few weeks but remind me of what I said, ok? Lol! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Dilemma

Didn't know that, @Sai. I thought they'd just do the revision. I would probably gain half back in 6 months without any fill. SMDH. Thank you for the heads up. I hope you are doing better after the car accident. Thank you for you input. Big decision for me. Thank you, I'm leaning that way after all of your input.

    September Sleevers!

Just make sure you are drinking your 64oz+ water, and you should be fine . I had my revision to sleeve on Sept. 2, and I'm 26 lbs. down. I am a bit surprised because I've had the band since 2009 and expected a slower weight loss since it was a relatively successful band.
