  1. Is this pre op diet only Yogurt and cottage cheese ? If it is I will die ! I hate cottage cheese and only yogurt will kill me ! yasmina
  2. Every doc and nutritionist says somethng different so you should go by what your doc says and what works for you - but i just had an extensive consult with my nutritionist and band surgeon and he said i could eat three meals and two snacks a day - my snacks were suggested to be calcium rich like a yogurt or small cup of milk - she said watch out for cheese (my weakness) but that was ok too in moderation. They she said each meal should have 1-2 oz of protein, a vege, a fruit and a carb - the carb should be one USDA serving which includes 1 slice of bread, a few crackers or 1/2 cup of a starch - she said be careful with fats and stay away from oil (use pam and use the spray low cal salad dressing) she also said it is ok for me to eat my salad first as i love veges. I got an unfill and have been finally able to eat without every bite pryaing it goes down - i have to exercise more restraint now but i am so happy to eat like a 'normal' person. I have learned to stop before (way before) full and my head always wants more but i can do it. Chewing and going slow have taken me a year and it is still challenging at times. As long as you are not pbing every day you are right it is a learning expereience - you don't want to get in a vicious cycle of pbing, getting swollen and doing it all again. Most docs want you to go on liquids for a length of time after a pb cuz of the swelling, even if you cant feel it.
  3. Banded 6/28 and 1st fill she said she put 4cc but went back today 6 wks later and she said it was almost empty and added another 4cc but not saline, she said it was something thicker to have better restriction. Has anyone heard of this other solution? and why are they starting my fills at 4 cc when by reading this everyone else starts at about 1 cc? Just curious.... I have drank some water and ate a little yogurt so far but not hungry.

    Post-Op Liquids

I have to do 2 weeks liquids... 2 weeks pureed/soft foods (like yogurt, cottage cheese, mashed potatoes.... then 3 weeks of slowing intro other softer foods. I can't wait until Dec. 26th, as I begin soft foods, so I can get Protein from scrambled eggs, etc.... I have had enough of this liquid already... but I am doing it!!!!!

    So...what's up with SALAD?

Hey Pam.. I am ok with salads too - I really don't have any no no's - sometime salami will stick a little - but I have had toast - grilled cheese - have rice most nites - only had pasta once in a great while and haven't in a long time - you get more rice for the calories than pasta.. I have pb'd on pudding or yogurt if eating too fast - for me that's what will bring on the pb being a little piggy and eating too fast....

    Avocado

Just tried one yesterday (I am 2 and 1/2 weeks out) didn't care for it. Nut. said greek yogurt 0 fat was fine I actually put a tablespoon of honey on it, she said as long as sugars were under 15% would be fine. This helped me get Protein (go for high ones) and feel like your eating something. Pre made Protein drinks make me ill, just can't stomach them. Plus try Soups but make sure you puree them up. Must admit this gets old but thankful to the heavens that I do not have to go weeks and weeks like some brave soles. Have no problem with liquids but thicker foods I really need to train myself to eat slower because it hurts. Muddling my way though this, hope you enjoy something.

    Yogurt options pre-op

I didn't like Greek yogurt either, until I did what my support group suggested. I got plain Greek yogurt with the lowest sugar content, also got sugar free Jam. I mix a spoon full of the jam into the yogurt, then I add a spoon or two of splenda (it wasn't sweet enough for me with just the jam). Once mixed, it taste like any other non-Greek (regular) yogurt. Very low in carbs, because you minimize the sugar. My group also suggested another Greek yogurt flavor by also getting plain and adding a spoon full of creamy low sugar peanut butter. It adds protein and also limits the sugar. Also, if it isn't sweet enough you can add splenda. At work, and at home I keep a the big baking bag of splenda (store the splenda in a tupperware container). EDIT: The added sweetness masks the tart associated with Greek yogurt.

    Yogurt options pre-op

Great idea! The higher protein Greek yogurt can be blended into so many things. I'm going to try it as soon as I am off full liquids. Sent from my LG-LS997 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Yogurt options pre-op

I don't like it either, due to the texture, but I did like the triple oikos Greek yogurt, by Dannon maybe??, ok. It was better than any others, if you stick with Greek

    Yogurt options pre-op

If it is because the texture is too thick, you can add just a bit of water and stir it well. It turns out to be just like regular yogurt consistency. Sent from my SM-G900T using BariatricPal mobile app

    OCTOBER 2014

My surgery date was October 1st. Its nice to read all the positive comments. I feel great! I can see my body shrinking. I have lost 11 pounds since my surgery date. Just ate a weight watchers fudge popsicle I hope it dont make me sick. I am looking forward to Oct 20 thats when I will get to introduce more food. I currently get 5 foods, cottage cheese, yogurt, beans, sf pudding & egg white. I have not tried an egg yet. My NUT said if anything bothers me it will be the egg. So I am scared. Getting my water & a 50 gram protein shake in daily. Thank you for starting this thread.

What Are U Eating 3-4 Months Out

High protein foods: cottage cheese, cheese, tuna, haddock, salmon, chicken, turkey, chili, meatballs, greek yogurt, shakes with high protein soy milk. I also love roasted veggies: broccoli, cauliflower, zucchini, red peppers, rutabaga, green beans, asparagus these keep well in the fridge and you can just take out a portion as needed. I tend to eat these as one of my snacks, delish!!
  13. Okay. Started out with a lot of pain in my chest and my feet were very swollen, thankfully 4th day the swelling went down and now for the most part the only pain I have is when I eat. Been on soft foods for two days and vegetables and fruits do not go down well. Yogurt has been the easiest.

    OCTOBER 2014

@@Luna222 I wonder why we are getting sick again? Last night, I was sick for the second day in a row. I had two slices of homemade pizza with mostly veggies and good stuff. Not sure why I am so sensitive all of a sudden. I don't even know what I should eat. I try to stick to yogurt and other easy food but my Protein intake is not enough. I had a Protein Bar (16 gr) and some milk with my tea but that's it for today. I am not hungry at all. Last night was not fun. The nausea was horrible. Blast. I think it's harder for me to do dinner because I am sitting down with my family and eat faster then I do during the day. I tend to snack on my meal. One bite, then I do something, a few minutes later I take another bite and so on. Dinner is all at the same time. I chew very well but I think my stomach can't handle that much food at once. It's only like 1/2 cup but It's still too much. I actually lost a bunch of weight this week. No idea why since I didn't do anything all that different. I have been outdoors a lot: waterpark with the boys, etc. I guess all the heat has re-ved up my metabolism. I am 1 pound away from 100 lbs lost. I suppose I should be happy, and I am.

    What was the point?

Dont get discouraged!! Im at day 13 of my stall and I "used" to weigh myself every morning...religiously...like clock work! I put the scale up last week and I only get on it once a week now. I had my surgery a day after you so we are within the same time frame. I have been eating creamed Soups EVERY DAY. I did try some salmon on Monday but could only eat a few bites before it got stuck. I try and stay away from oatmeal and cream of wheat; that's the previous "zero carb addict" in me from my pre-sleeved life. I think if you try and transition from the oatmeal and c.o.w. to stuff like eggs w/ a lil cheese for Breakfast, and tuna, etc that will help. I *was* a fast food junkie cuz i dont know how to cook. But I am being forced to prepare my meals and try and be creative. I have never had an avacado or spaghetti squash in my life! I dont like yogurt and can barely stomach cottage cheese. Try and see food as fuel; try to look at it differently. I was always eating in my pre-sleeved life; everything i did was centered around food!! movies=popcorn, lunch=McD's #2 value meal, friday nite=dinner at restaurant, happy hour w/ coworkers=appetizers, saturdays=bbq grilling w/ friends!! Now, I have had to switch my focus and do other things. During lunch, I walk. No more eating out= soooooo much money saved in my bank acct!! I don't watch as much tv becuz of the food commercials so i find stuff to do around the house. Change your thinking, change your life!! Keep your head up beautiful!!
  16. Haha yeah I felt that way in the beginning but just remember the full liquids are still liquids.. pudding, jello, drinkable yogurt (yogurt with milk added), etc.. I found pudding to be super delicious and filling and went down nicely and gave me a “liquid” that I could feel was like a food since I’m eating it with a spoon. Much of this is trial and error. It gets easier
  17. This is the post op diet that my surgeon suggests Post - Operative Lap-Band Diet Week 1 Week one is the "clear liquid" stage. Below you will find the liquids that are appropriate for this week. Jello Popcicles Crystal Light Koolaid Water Tea Coffee Chicken Broth Beef Broth Lipton Diet Green Tea Campbell's Soup At Hand Fruit Juices ** Purchase chewable gas tablets, such as, Gas-X or Phazyme. Very discouraged.. and worried

I am 1 week out before having the lap band. The statistics that I was given is 40-45% of weight loss of your total ideal weight over 2 years. Are you being too hard on yourself? Don't give up. It's only been 6 months. So if you are 300lbs you will loose about 120lbs over 2 years which translates to 5 lbs a month-which is what you are at now. I have no idea what your starting weight is but this is just an example. You are not a failure, keep trying. quote name='Ninababy' timestamp='1294677423' post='1557873'] I am 6 months out from being banded.. and I have only lost around 30 pounds. I feel like a huge failure! I am doing what I thought was right.. but I still get very very hungry at times and I know eat more than I should but I keep it to Protein if I can... I am working much harder than I thought! I have had 5 fills!! I have about 8.5CC in a 14 CC band... I thought I would be down so much more! the scale does not budge. I have yogurt ( greek) for breakfast... some greens with Tuna or chicken for lunch with lemon juice... and then protein ( chicken, turkey or fish) and vegs for dinner.. and very tiny amount of Carbs... like a spoon full. I get really hungry after dinner!! I have a little high fiber cereal and skim milk... I drink tea..decafe... with splenda.. I just have not dropped in a couple months. Not a pound... I am starting to think this band is not working for me... Anyone ever have success after a very long plateau? What jump started you....? give me some hope... or otherwise advise...
  19. @@Alex Brecher, thank you for your suggestions. This will be my first Thanksgiving where I really think about what I'm going to eat. Next year will be a different story because I will probably not eat anything but Protein shakes and Greek yogurt. Hoping my taste buds change by then. This will be such a challenge!

    September Sleevers!

I am so sorry to learn that you are going through all of this. I was on liquid pain killers. Hydrocodine and I had a pill for nausea that desolved in my mouth. You should still be on liquids and creams. You might want to have some yogurt so that you can tolerate your meds. It's gonna get easier. You are 2 weeks behind me.

    Little rant about "diet"

Oh Chris!!! I'm so excited. Tell me what you learned and how the support thing goes. I go to my first one tomorrow night. I'm a little nervous. I don't want anyone looking at me with that.....you know....look that says "Why haven't you lost since surgery, look at how wonderful I've done!" look. I know, just in my head I'm sure, but I'm still nervous. After reading my little temper tantrum above I realize just how hungry I must have been when I wrote it. I was sitting at 2 on the hunger scale obviously! Now that I'm finished preparing for my sub tomorrow and writing my semester tests I finally got to come home. 7:30 am to 8:30 pm was just TOO long of a day I guess. I had some yogurt down in the kitchen I should have gone and eaten, but I didn't want to take the time. Shame on me!! I'll have to be better about that! I came home and had a bowl of cream of wheat and a couple handfuls of soy nuts. Did you know they have a TON of Protein in them? I chewed really well and after about 1/4 cup things were looking up. Enough so that I don't think I need to midnight graze tonight. I'll be on the road tomorrow to go to get my first fill, my first dietician appointment and my first support group. WOW it sounds like a lot to take in tomorrow. I'll be popping in and out in the evening. Let me know how tonight went and how the exercise one goes too. Steph
  25. I also do not think that consuming more grams of Protein will make you feel more satisfied. It is a liquid and it is not filling. I also could not stand the smell of the Protein shakes, but I started preparing them in the magic bullet. Some of the things I've mixed are chocolate Protein powder with milk and a heaping spoonful of Peanut Butter and this actually did make me feel full. I have also done vanilla protein powder with milk, a banana and peanut butter. Since the powder is mixed in so well I cannot smell it like I could when I was preparing it with a spoon in a glass. Here are things that are on my stage one-liquids only-list: Light yogurt (I got the kind you drink) SF pudding or custard cream soups-strained cream of wheat (drinkable consistency) Fruit and Veg juices broth protein shakes fruit smoothies At this point I am into the mushy stage and that has been helpful, but yesterday was the first day that I have REALLY felt hungry since my surgery on the 3rd. I did manage to satisfy my hunger, mainly with yogurt and cottage cheese-which I just ate until I finally started to feel satisfied. The other night I pureed thin strips of beef prepared in the crock pot. Tasted fine if you can get beyond the look and texture. My 4 year old was pretty thrilled by it and ate a whole cupful... I was not so thrilled. But I did get it down and I felt satisfied afterward. I used quite a bit of the juices from the cooking process to puree it.
