  1. This article just came out in my local paper. 8 people in my state have contracted the "super bug" in Mexico and one has died. There are many good doctors out there. But do not use Dr. Almanza. Every patient used him who contracted the infection. I personally recently had surgery in Mexico but I'm fine and I've had a great experience. I researched and followed the facility for 4 years before I made the leap. Please do your research. Cheapest isn't always the best. https://www.sltrib.com/news/2019/07/22/utahn-dies-after-weight/

    7 Pounds from Goal......

Way to go! So close! You know it slows down as you get closer to goal, right? I'm just getting out of a 10 week stall!
  3. 8 people in my state have all used Weight Loss Agents, had surgery by Dr. Almanza, and have become infected. One has died. https://www.sltrib.com/news/2019/07/22/utahn-dies-after-weight/
  4. Grape has a funky aftertaste which comes in the original box. My favorite is the fruit punch in the tropical "variety" pack but usually end up with 10 pineapple which I dont care for either.

  6. I just got my RNY surgery date for August 19th and my insurance approved me early. I’m in TOTAL SHOCK and almost in tears. I’m in month 4 of 6. And now it finally feels real. Finished up with pre-surgery registration today. I see my surgeon for pre-op appointment 8/1 and then next is 8/19 SURGERY DAY.... I feel like shouting from a roof because I’m just that darn happy (but I’m not). Only 2 people know about it. ☺️☺️☺️ I was so anxious I blew through all of my clearance visits in 3 months.... my doctor said “YOU ARE MY ROCKSTAR PATIENT” 😃😁

Day 1 on the Pre Op Diet!

I began reducing my volume and caloric intake about 8 weeks ago. I slowly, slowly lost around 10 pounds. Hard to know because I only bought a scale half way through. I began the pre surgical diet 3 days ago and my scale has shown a drop of 4 pounds! That encouraged me! I have no problems until night time. That's when I get hungry! I have been splitting my delicious shakes in half. Taking a 20 minute break between the two halves. I also make a bowl of sugar free jello in the morning and that is my evening snack. So I think the actual fact you can loose weight on the presurgical diet is a huge motivator. I am having problems with some friends who are really all about just staying fat and enjoying their lives. They are very against me doing this. My supportive friends are all really into eating healthy, and they are into smoothies and shakes already so its pretty much easier with them. All kinds of people are drinking protein shakes and smoothies for breakfast and lunch so that should be easy for you at work. Best of luck! I am going in for a tune up of my pouch and RNY, on July 31.
  8. I go in on 8/2/19 and have been hitting the gym 3 times a week.. My question is should I let me body rest 1 week or 2 days before the surgery.. I think ima post this in post op forum also 11 days to go can't believe it Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-J727AZ using BariatricPal mobile app

    No weight loss

Obvious typo is obvious typo. I get you! It's frustrating. I'm 2 weeks out tomorrow and have only lost 10 lbs. I know that's 10 lbs lost and all but I started at a high weight (295) so I was definitely thinking it'd be more the first 2 weeks. I am following the program exactly to the T and walking 1.5-2 miles a day. It's frustrating but how can we not lose weight at this amount of calories? It's bound to happen.. but I get you. 10. I had a 10 week stall and thought I was in maintenance even though I thought I was doing everything right, getting in my protein, exercising, getting in water, 800 calories/day. Then I started on a "diet" with my husband, sort of like Atkins, and I'm eating MORE calories and the weight is finally dropping again. Maybe I was in starvation mood with too few calories? Bottom line is that stalls are frustrating but inevitable and you can't give up but have to keep following the program.
  11. I originally said 199 and they said no problem (after being 300+ for years, 199 sounded like a pipe dream!). When I got down to around 220, I told them I wanted to aim for 170-180. They said as long as I worked really hard at it, that should be do-able. Got down there no problem. Once I got there, I said I wanted to be a normal BMI, so I was aiming for 150. They told me that that was pretty unrealistic - only about 10% of their patients who started at my weight could achieve a normal BMI. They said my weight at the time (around 175 or so) was perfect for me. Ha! That was pretty much all the incentive I needed. I doubled down and got down to 150 - actually, below!

How to choose a realistic goal weight

Great feedback. I think I will pick somewhere in the middle of my ideal weight and my first goal, which is 10 pounds less that I have been in 30 years or so. Now I just have to learn how to edit!
  14. I'm ready to launch into a Les Miz song -ONE DAY MORE!! Tomorrow- 7/22/2019 is SLEEVE DAY! I'm ready! Let's do this!

How to choose a realistic goal weight

I initially set mine for 140 which seemed realistic and yet so far to me, but it gave me something to shoot for. Around March I was beginning to wonder if I was being too ambitious because my weight loss slowed down to a crawl. I worked hard and hit 140 about 5 weeks ago then decided to aim lower. I’m 58 and I do think age is a factor for most of us when trying to lose, even after surgery. Please note, I am shorter than you and I weighed in the 140’s 10 years ago. We are all different. My advice is to pick a realistic goal weight so when you reach it you will have a better grasp on how you feel, how active you are and your diet. You can always change your goal. Psychologically it would be tough for me to set a goal I might not reach. So many people lose a bunch of weight yet still feel like they failed. I believe hitting a goal boosts your confidence and morale, at least it did for me. Best of luck to you.

    Weights vs measures

Sounds like you have a lot going on. Try to let go of stress you cannot control and continue to follow your Dr advice. I hope this week is better for you. New_Me 2019
  17. I was self pay and went to Mexico for mine. Surgery was 6/12/19. I'm 5'3 and was 199. My bmi was 34.9, high BP and cholesterol. A little over a month out and I'm 169. I did a two week pre op diet and a liquid diet for two weeks after. I feel 100% better! I've removed all processed foods, caffeine, soda, all white potatoes, pasta and sugar from my diet. Good luck!

Don’t want to leave my house.

I am so like this. One thing I am doing in my house, because I am on the presurgical diet and entertainment by food is not an option, is working on a list of fast tasks. Things I can do in 10 to 30 minutes. Otherwise, besides going to the pre-paid gym sessions, I would stay home with the curtains closed. That is my nature. Glued to the recliner. My list of tasks include: . Load or Unload the dishwasher . Do a load of laundry . vacuum . sew that button on the shirt (the one that has been waiting 10 months . steam the wrinkled clothes that have been waiting for weeks. . clean the fridge I set the timer to 30 minutes and tackle a task or two. At the end of the day I feel better and it keeps my mind off food. I am avoiding going out because I am also a recovering shop-acholic. That is one of my fat time things to do. Avoidance. To mitigate the risk of shopping for things I do not need: I have a list of errands to run that I postpone because it requires I wash my hair, put on something other than sweats and leave the house AND not shop or stop at starbucks! I just focus on the list, bring a big bottle of water and try and drink it before I get home. Also: I am wearing my best clothes because they will be too big next month and I might as well! Also, been putting on makeup cause, why not. Anything to get my mind off food. I smile and say "thank you" to everyone. Ask the clerks "how is your day?" Then, they smile back at me and I feel I have achieved a small thing. Finally, another thing I did was ease myself into the pre surgical diet by using noom, the app, which set a 1200 calorie goal for me, and 3K for steps. Why not do that? It helps to motivate you, noom helps you work on that lazy bones attitude too. Good Luck. Getting outside feels good once you actually get yourself out the door!
  19. Hi. I just had vsg July 8, 2019. I was alwaus below the 35 bmi and have many health issues. I know some may not like it but I put on a few so I would qualify. So i went to a 36 bmi and my insurance bcbs did away with the 3 month weigh in but my surgeon required it. So my primary dr and surgeons office told me to lose weight or stay the same each month but do NOT go under 35 bmi and do NOT gain. So it was a crazy juggling act. I started at 203 and went to 200 or 201 for last visit. I was literally approved in a day from bcbs. I was 193 on day of surgery. Monday will be week 3 and i am 184. I was taken off my blood pressure meds already. My surgeons office is pretty well organized and gave me a binder with tons of info. A timeline for all the tests and labs etc. You will need a psycatrist approval Sleep apena test Endoscopy Monthly visits as your insurance requires A letter from your prinary Lab work closer to surgery A chest x-ray Attend informatiinal session and a group support session Msra and mssa test they do the nose swab with labwork Thats all i can think of. I did start the bariatric vitamins a month or two before to make sure i wasn't anemic etc. You will need comorbilities with your bmi which i am sure you know to qualify for insurance. Everyones liquid diet seems to be different before surgery. Mine is strict. He stressed how important itbwas to follow to the T for a better surgery and qjick recovery. Mine was a full 2 weeks of clear liquids, protein shakes and tomato soup only. Some get 1 meal or so many calories etc. Not mine 😆 I was in hospital overnight and also had a hiatel hernia repaired. Good luck to you! Reach out anytime

    July 2019 - Surgery Schedule

Well, I am July 31 - RNY and Pouch revision or "tune up", as I like to call it. I was worried that I would be too late for the July group, so I was also going to follow with the August group. My pre op appointment is July 29th where the Internist will review my test results before giving the final go-ahead for the 31st. I am doing well on the pre-op diet, and have lost about 10 pounds in the past month total. My tests show a fatty liver so I am really following the protocol closely. So if it is not too late, Please include me. I have met all the requirements for surgery already, in terms of test results so I am pretty sure it will be a go ahead. I really would like to be involved in the post surgery followup, to see how you are all doing!
  21. I’m so nervous for my revision surgery! It’s scheduled in just a couple weeks. If you’ve done this- how much different is the post-op experience? I have terrible GERD, and have had only a small amount of weight loss.

    Need advice

You have not screwed up. Life’s stresses happen. The great thing is you got on this before a significant weight gain. Many of us have had the 15 to 20-pound gain years out. You are not alone. Glad you reached out for support. I am a sleeve. My restriction is noticeably less but my stomach is not back to full size. All I can offer is what has worked for me. Some things to try for hunger and filling the extra space you may be experiencing. Get back to basics. Log your food stay within your weight loss calories/macros, hydrate and exercise/activity. (Food log aps myfitnesspal or baritastic) Get temptation foods out of the house go shopping for items on your plan. Just because we can eat more does not mean we have to eat over your calories and gain weight. For me, simply staying in my calories and macros and the scale moves. With your protein and other items on your plan. Allow yourself to eat as much veggies until full Extra carbs and real sugar can make you crave them more and cause hunger. Detox off them. Keep healthy options on hand to satisfy sweet and salty cravings. Night snacking. Keep a veggie tray and some berries in the fridge allow yourself to snack on these items. If you try to bargain with yourself for other options its head hunger. Some will offer advice on pouch reset (going back to liquids and progressing back to real food stage) Decide for yourself if this is too restrictive. it may cause you more hunger. For some it helps to feel restriction a bit more – It does not shrink your pouch. We have a weight loss challenge for support and motivation. Eating

Hi there One idea - go into your profile and tell up some details - height, weight, date of surgery, surgery type. Your profile still says pre-op so it’s pretty hard to say anything useful. Only getting your protein by supplements is fine if you are 10 days out from surgery, but not so much if you are 10 months out!!
  24. I’m 10 days out from my surgery. And I felt like absolute hell for the first 5 days. I didn’t do much but take my meds, sleep and I’m between sleeping walked a bit and sipped my liquids. I was amazed that day 6 I woke up feeling like a normal person..lol. You didn’t make a mistake..focus on what you are able to do and REST. Your body needs it for recovery. Take your meds and by all means call your team if you think something is not right. You got this!! Hang in there. What a difference a few days will make .
