I am 9 months post op also. I don't exactly hate eating but I don't love it or enjoy it anymore either. There are days when I get a sad because someone is eating something that I used to love like cheesecake or a burger from Red Robin but then I remind myself that those foods put my health and life at risk. Lots of the foods I used to eat, I avoid now because I can't tolerate them but most of those foods were unhealthy to begin with. Everytime I get a little depress about not being able to eat, I look at my before and after picture on my iPhone. I now go for foods that I know will be easily tolerated like salads, oatmeal, yogurt, tuna salad, fish, soft cooked veggies. The one thing a really miss is a big glass of ice cold milk. But I am a size 0 now with no high blood pressure, no pre diabetic signs, normal heart function, no back pain, no ankle pain, no knee pain, no snoring, etc... I can live with getting a little sad 3-30 mins meal times a day in exchange for a healthier me.

I love so many of the ideas here! I'll have to try the hummus in hard boiled egg halves, sounds great! I have Greek yogurts when I'm extra hungry or I have a Wasa cracker topped with tuna salad, soy Protein crisps ( I like the BBQ flavor), smoked almonds, a Protein Bar, Protein shake made into frozen smoothie in the blender, teriyaki flavored beef Jerky, cottage cheese, a cold piece of grilled chicken. Those are some off the top of my head. BUT that being said, I happen to have a lapband doc that is hugely against snacking as a rule and would prefer I make one of those things a meal instead of a snack. He says I should rely on Protein shakes if I feel some true hunger between meals. I need to start living by that rule again, I have sadly been slipping where that rule is concerned.

Calories, Carbs, Fat, Protein, Oh My!
Jazzieperfections replied to happytobehere's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i stuck to the protein drinks and bars. I also ate weigh watcher meals a day while watching my calorie. I wrote down my calorie and how many protein in a day. i stared like a protein in the morning i still ate a yogurt as my snack. then lunch i would eat a half of a weight watcher meal. or a bake potato or noodles and cheese a infant plate full. or if i didn't eat food i would have another protein drink and a snack which was a yogurt or a sugar free jello cup. For dinner i would have corn, (two tablespoon), a green veg, a meat bake or broiled.the size of a cracker depending on if the meat was cut up very small and cooked in a cream or gravy or baked real soft. I would drink crystal light in my bottles of water, i don't really like water all day long, but i woul try to get in 8 cups. which i brought the small bottles of water. -
Anyone for August 2020
JenniferNu replied to MotivatedMomma's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just wanted to update for those who are headed to surgery soon. I am one week and a day since sleeve surgery and I’m pretty much feeling 100%. I didn’t really ever have pain from the wounds. I did experience gas, I wouldn’t call it pain but it was very uncomfortable. It lasted about 24 hours and got better with walking. I had minor pain when I left the hospital but Im a single mom with a one year old and it was hard not to pick him up. I had to lift him onto the changing table, give him baths, etc you know regular mom stuff. That pain subsided pretty quickly too and I didn’t have to use pain meds much. Being on liquids again for another 2 weeks is the worst part but it’s not unbearable. It was difficult for me to get a protein shake down this first week. They just felt heavy and sweet and weren’t setting right but I kept trying different ones and found ones that I could tolerate. Protein water has been a life saver. I found some sipping soups yesterday that have been helping me feel more satisfied. I also talked to my surgeon’s office and they told me I could try some Greek yogurt and that went well today. I went back to work day 6. I’m a teacher and all my student are virtual for now so I’m basically just sitting in front of a computer all day. I was feeling really tired like I needed a nap midday and then super exhausted when I got home from work but not today. Today I felt great. You feel better every day. I’m just so excited to start seeing results. I have lost 11 lbs since surgery. -
Can you get de-banded after being banded?
JENNIFER7375 replied to Erin18's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Im not really sure about the yogurt but I think that might still be considered a mushie and a bit too much for your stomach right now. But what about sugar free popcicles. They taste good and help with hydration. I almost lived on them my 1st few days post op. -
Can you get de-banded after being banded?
sue in ne replied to Erin18's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There are several yogurt brands out there. there are Light, nonfat, and sugar free versions. I think Dannon and/or Activia has a smoothie drink. Whatever you choose it should be w/o chunks- No "fruit on the bottom". Weight Watchers has some you may like and don't seem to have fruit pieces; they are lo fat and sugar. I try to check the amt. of protein grams / serving in the container. Some are as low as 3 while others are 7-8.. Some use gelatin and others do not. Yoplait has several Whips. Lights., and regular versions without fruit pieces. -
Another snack I like is sliced cucumbers with veggie dip that I make with plain Greek yogurt and a low sodium veggie dip packet. 2oz of dip = 5g Protein | 30 calories Ingredients: 1 packet Kroger Party Dip Ranch (I used Kroger since it is cheaper) 17oz tub Fage Total 0% greek yogurt (I used 0% to save on calories)

Tastes nutty, good in yogurt or plain.

Garden burger makes a vegetarian hamburger that is to die for--the chiken dishes are okay but the hamburger is fabulous!---also eating alot of Greek yogurt and cottage cheese--90 calories for 13 gms of protein

I agree. I noticed that MANY people have a pre-op diet of nothing but liquids. I don't have that. My pre-op diet is breakfast consisting of either egg, toast, fruit, or yogurt. (allowed 2) , lunch is protein drink and dinner is lean meet with green veg. Not near as strict as many of the pre-op diets.

I go through days like I am so hungry and feel like I've eaten all day, and then others where I forget to eat and still feel full. Not sick or anything. I realized though that on the days where I feel I've eaten a lot; I have probably only eaten a small portion. Some days I just buy food but don't eat it. It's like an old habit/compulsion. I'll go to Bojangles and buy 2 wings and a sweet tea, or buy a kitkat or last week went to mcdonalds and bought a french fry and a hot fudge Sunday. At Panera, I might buy a scone, coffee, and Mac and cheese. As soon as I try a bite of any of these things, I'm satisfied (or repulsed) and I bring them home to my husband or the trash. I ate a salad for lunch today and picked up a cookie on the way out off of a salad/dessert buffet and brought it home. I guess I'm doing this as a "I used to love these!" Kind of deals, but it's so weird. And costly. If I do try to force myself to take a bite of say fried chicken or Mac and cheese, my stomach rebels as soon as it's in my mouth and can't swallow and I immediately want something cold and clean like watermelon or water. It's not even a head hunger or craving that makes me buy. I think it's habit. But then I'm like, what the heck? I don't even want this! I'll throw whole sandwiches in the trash or give them to the guys at work. (Who are vultures and like that I'm on a 'diet' so they can eat my food.) I don't do this a lot, but maybe once a week. It's like a comfortable blanket to just have it near me I think. I once had an eclair in the fridge for over a month and my daughter asked me if she could throw it out and I told her no. She asked why, bc it was practically moldy, and I told her that I like it there. Later, I wondered why. Is it bc when I open the fridge and take out a yogurt that I actually "chose" the yogurt over the eclair? Is it a reminder of where I've been, or of something I used to love and want it there like a blankie to reassure me? I think I like looking at it sitting there, and I smile to myself and shut the door. Like, "you don't have power over me anymore!! See, I don't need you!" Idk. A psychologist might have a field day with me but I feel like I did when I was having food funerals, only I was sad then and powerful now. On most days I eat a protein bar on the way to work or a yogurt, a cheese stick as a snack, chicken with nuts and fruit for lunch and then maybe a protein shake for a second snack. For dinner, I eat maybe taco salad, a cup of chili, or chicken salad. Something lighter so I don't feel heavy when I go to bed. Plus I'm not usually hungry by then. Watermelon, berries (all kinds) and cantelope are my daily friends. That's where I am on this 11th month, still trying to honestly understand my relationship with AND without food.

@@tacycakes My doctors NUT has us not take any lactose products for the first 6 weeks. Only yogurt because it is easily tolerated. I am on skim Lactaid. It tastes great and I can't tell the difference when I mix it with my Unjury vanilla powder. I was also told your lactose intolerance will resolve itself once all your stomach enzymes stabilize however some become lactose intolerant. I pretty much think I will because I was borderline before anyway and both my mother and her mother are.

Dairy allergy....how to get protein?
Zoes.Realm replied to Dk370's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Dk370,I am big time struggling with the same thing. But I am about to have yogurt even though I can not have milk, lactaid, fairlife, soy or almond milk. My dietitian for the program tells me to keep try different Protein shakes. She mentioned isopure or take the shakes with Water. Atkins now has a protein water. It has 21 grams per bottle. I wasn't a huge fan of it but my mom loves it. It all depends on the person. Hope this helps some Sent from my SM-G935P using the BariatricPal App -
MCT Oil, Keto..an alternate way to eat Post VGS
Nancy MBGC replied to GeTnBackuP's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wouldn't try tuna with yogurt. Sounds absolutely ghastly! It's been my experience with the NUTS that I've worked with in the hospital, that discussing fats is difficult. They don't tend to be big on any fat, bad or good. -
So i have to do a liver shrinking diet 2 weeks prior to surgery. Which is substituting 2 meals w/ protein drink from an approved list. 2 snacks low calorie or fat free yogurt, cottage cheese or 1/2 of fruit and 1 meal consisting of 4 oz lean protein and vegetables. Except corn, sweet potatoes, lima beans and potatoes. 64 oz of water. I should have no problems because i basically been eating this was since February.

rcarter76 replied to rcarter76's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I keep my carbs under about 60-80 and my nutritionist said not to worry if the carbs come from things with Protein like cheese, yogurt, refried Beans etc. So I am not sure what it is, but I haven't heard from ANYONE else that they have hit a plateau like this... It is hard not to get depressed. Thanks for the response girl! -
Hey professionals (or anyone working full-time)
samuelsmom replied to pindoctor's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi there- I have exactly the same schedule and a teenage daughter! After the 2 weeks you will probably be on puree foods. I kept it simple by using pre-made shakes, greek yogurt, scrambled eggs, and homemade bean or lentil type of Soups that I could smash up really good since I had no desire to puree anything. Considering that I was not hungry at all it was very easy. It has gotten much harder since I have been on solid food. What works best for me is having a shake or egg for Breakfast, Soup from the cafeteria at work, a cheese stick, greek yogurt or Protein bar for a snack, and then dinner after I get home. I just don't have the time or interest to pack a full lunch so this is easy! By 2 weeks out I felt pretty good. I did work a couple of day at home which helped. -
Calcium Citrate after RNY
catwoman7 replied to c37king's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
in the morning I mix a scoop of Upcal D powder into my yogurt (it'll supposedly mix into anything, but the filler is kind of sweet - so it works best in sweeter things like yogurt). During the day, I drop two Calcium citrate tablets into my 16 oz two-scoop (fruit-flavored) Protein shake. I mix fruit flavored Protein Powder with Crystal Light lemonade, so the acid in it makes the calcium tablets dissolve (takes awhile, though - but then I sip on the shake all day long, so it doesn't matter). after dinner, I take a Calcet Creamy Bite or a Bariatric Advantage chew. Both taste like dessert. They're also both kind of expensive, but then, I only take them once a day. -
Thanks, everyone, for the fantastic recipes! I've been experimenting, and here's a game-changer I discovered: the "Berry Bliss Delight." Blend together 1 cup almond milk, a scoop of vanilla protein powder (I prefer GNC brand), a handful of mixed berries (frozen or fresh), and a dollop of Greek yogurt. It's a burst of flavor, packed with protein, and totally masks the usual supplement taste 🍓🥤💖 see my work info

Any November 2009 Bandsters??
bridget1701 replied to 120inside's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mainly liquids...so far I've done Carnation Instant Breakfast (no sugar added), protein shakes, sugar free jello, boullion, low fat cream soups...I need to buy some sugar free yogurt. I was a diet coke addict, but so far I've done ok without it! How about you? What diet are you on? -
my local health food store makes great peanut butter protein shakes. so now i just make my own at home with protein powder, ff vanilla frozen yogurt, banana and some peanut butter (also maybe some ice cubes). my band is pretty tight & i'm quite restricted so i don't mind the extra calories and it's sooo good. highly recommend
