Malabsorption of psych meds? Or any meds?
ZubaanJCP replied to Briswife15's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
The Zoloft Concentrate that I'm on I take it twice a day, two pill drops full (i think it equates to 10 ml - it's the equivalent of 100mg of Zoloft twice a day), because before I was on 200mg of Zoloft once a day, the doctor decided to break it up. The bottle comes with droppers that measure out everything. -
Fleet enemas work best for me. It brings everything down within 10 mins.

I lost 6 pounds the first week and 1 pound the second week and so far 1/2 pound this week, so I'm happy with the movement and progress. I think I was in "starvation mode" the way I had been eating and now eating more calories is helping, plus the overall premise of the "carnivore" diet magic seems to be working. I'm 10 pounds away from being "Overweight" instead of "Obese" so I'm looking forward to that milestone.

Hello! I found these forums yesterday while I was anxiously awaiting for my insurance to approve my surgery. I'm so glad I found such a great wealth of information and support here so I wanted to share that as of this morning my insurance, Excellus BCBS, approved my gastric sleeve surgery! I haven't spoken to the surgery scheduler since I've heard, but my tentative date is 9/30/19. I have so many emotions; excited, anxious, nervous, motivated... I'm just glad to be moving forward towards getting my life back or starting a brand new one. I'm looking forward to following all of your stories and sharing my own.

What mind games do you play???
catwoman7 replied to Krestel's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I only kept those that were one size larger. Everything else - out!! Figured it'd be an incentive to stay where I was weight-wise. I did have a 12 lb bounce back after hitting my lowest weight (and keep in mind a 10-20 lb regain is pretty common). Also, having a few things in the larger size helped after plastic surgery because I was too swollen to fit into some of my things (esp pants). But I had no need for size 4x and 5x things anymore... -
Hi! What state are you from? I'm not looking to date but more to make like mined friends! I had surgery on March 14th 2019! 4 months out and I'm down 100lbs. I go to the gym 1-3 times a day. I'm trying to. 1)keep lean muscle on as I'm losing weight. 2) Feel as accomplished and energetic and as amazing as possible 3) Optimize the first year window of weight loss and 4)...well... I honestly just love going to the gym and feeling great about how I've just spent my time. I love showing others that it can be a joy and not a chore. I love love LOVE being active. Every person is different. Your young age is a big advantage for you. Your skin will be more elastic. If you lose more than 100 pounds, you are going to have some loose skin, no doubt. But.... there are ways to cope and your health is a lot more important than outward appearance. I am 63 and I have loose skin, but by golly, I earned every bit of it! I feel quite wrinkly and old looking, especially in my face and neck, but more than a few people have told me I look 10 year younger. Go figure. Maybe I look younger because I FEEL 10 years younger, have more zip, and am much happier and more confident. As you get thinner and feel better, I think others pick up on the positive vibes and don't even notice the wrinkles or looseness! They just see the new you!

Starting weight 200 or less get vsg???
Screwballski replied to Milaa's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Folks, don’t worry. I know you want it all gone now...I did , too...but it will happen! I am 5”6”. I was 209 at my consult. I was approved by my insurance companies and given my checklists (all the boring poke/prod stuff). They scheduled me for 3 months later and I set about doing all the stuff they’d scheduled. All they told me was DON’T GAIN ANY WEIGHT OR YOUR INSURANCE COMPANIES WILL DECLINE SURGERY! Okay. Got it. So, I got super vigilant and began LOSING weight. I showed up for surgery weighing 180 lbs with a BMI of exactly 30... apparently, the OTHER number where MY INSURANCE COMPANIES WILL DECLINE! Uh, wait...you’ve got to explain this stuff upfront! (However, since I had a complication, my Doctor got it approved on that day and off we went.) Anyway, this is the long way of saying, I had my surgery at 30 BMI! I kept and continue to keep copious notes on my weight loss. Initially I lost 8-10 pounds per month. Then it slowed to 5-6 pounds. I hit my goal very quickly but then I decided that was my Doctor’s goal. MY goal was 35 pounds lighter. So I kept going. Now I look back and think how the time flew and what I’ve accomplished. But, in the moment, I thought it was taking forever! Don’t spend time worrying about how quickly it will happen. It’s different for everyone. Comparison is fruitless. It gets you nowhere and it robs energy you could be using to make sure you get where you want to be! i wish all of you the very best. -
July 2019 - Surgery Schedule
NancyLF replied to Mom_of_Chaos's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am HOME!! I had my VSG on Mon 7/22. My surgery started just past 9:30am. I was #2 on that days schedule. There were 4 scheduled that day.My Mom & sister were there for support. The supporting staff were amazing. They explained everything that would be going on. In recovery, my family was shown in. They then followed as I was brought to my room. Once I was settled in, they went home at about 2pm. I spent the rest of the day getting my BP taken, being checked on for pain. One concern was my O2 levels. They want it to be around 95 - mine was in the low 90s... high 80s. This actually didn't surprise me. That's always been an issue . They decided to put me on a HPAP machine which is similar to a CPAP. UGH!!! What a nightmare! They moved me to a private room so it wouldn't disturb my roommate. They had me walk about 10pm. Walking is difficult for me due to a bad hip. Luckily, I wasn't having a problem with gas. In fact, I didn't have any of the issues described by many people who have undergone the same procedure. They told me I'd be going for x-rays at about 10:30 or so. I alerted my family & asked them to stop by the pharmacy to pick up the meds that were called in the day before. Mom & sister came at about 1pm, fully expecting me to be dressed & ready to go. NOPE- I hadn't been to the x-ray yet!! They came for me shortly after. I have heard of people having difficulty drinking the barium liquid. No big deal for me. When I got back to my room, I was brought 3 one oz "shots" of Snapple diet iced tea & a small bowl of chicken broth. Then an 8oz cup of ice water. I was able to consume them with no problem. The next thing I knew- they told me to get dressed & the nurse would come in with my instructions. So at 3pm I had my marching orders. We were all laughing & had a great time. My sister joked that the best thing about having anything done at the hospital, is getting another pair of socks! LOL! Jennifer (the nurse) said, "Hang on a sec!" She came back with 2 pair of socks (grey & yellow) for the 3 of us!! She was amazed that was recovering so well. In fact, all of that day's surgeries went off without a hitch & all 4 of us had no problems! I have some soreness, but no real pain. I was home at about 4:30. All is well! -
My ballpark date is the first week of September. Diabetes does suck. I'll never forget the ay my doctor looked when I went into his office for my follow up from getting my results from my blood work the first time. I really thought I was going to tell me I had cancer. I really never struggled too much with my weight. I weighed 94lbs until my mid 20's. Then I was 120 until I got pregnant with my son. After I had him I weighed 170lbs. I worked out and lost it. Only weighed a 130lbs when I gave birth and lost last as well, and my third one got huge and lost that. I was hanging around at 108 lbs for years. I walk in my doctor looks at me and then at the results rubs his hands over his face, shaking his head with the perplexed look on his face. He tells me my cholesterol was 398 and my fasting blood sugar was 400 something. I had a hysterectomy in 2010 gained some weight after that surgery. I had to move myself and my kids from on military base from the East coast to the midwest. My husband was deployed. Me, 3 kids (15yrs, 12yrs, and 8yrs old at the time) 3 cats, and a dog in a minivan. Needless to say, I was at the hotel bar drinking a few adult beverages after 10+ hours driving. Alcohol has way too many calories. I gained weight from that and then the big one was I broke my ankle in April of 2018. I could not walk and they could not find the break. I went all summer and a 10 day trip to Disney World on a broken ankle. When I go back my primary care Dr. told me to stay off it. I did. I had to go on extra meds to control my blood sugars. I was gaining weight rapidly. In September I told him that I could not walk from the front of a store to the back to get a gallon of milk without being in agony. So we got an MRI and bingo. They could not get me into surgery till Jan 30! Then I had reinjured my ankle in May this year, Hairline fracture in my tailia. So, I get to start physical therapy again next week. WOOT. I did lose 45lbs with just my diet but I have not lost anymore in months. I know I can not lose this weight by myself this time around. I am using this chance to take back control of my health. Bread, my own homemade chocolate chip cookies, and ice cream are my weaknesses. I have read that cravings and your taste buds change after surgery. I hope my brain will forget as well.

Finally Feeling Great about Gastric Sleeve
bookworm88 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
SW: 274.4 Surgery Day: 265 CW: 231.2 GW: 159 Surgery Date: May 23, 2019 I am almost 9 weeks post op, and it was the most challenging times in my life. Never think this is a quick fix! I have lost 43.2 lbs, over 15% of my body weight. I feel so much better, but eating is still a daily struggle to change old habits. I finally notice the inches lost and the energy gained, but still have 72 lbs left to lose. Has anyone lost the excess weight and got to a BMI under 25? It seems so far away. 1 week Post OP and feeling weak/fatigued
Krestel replied to EstyJami's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It took me a good 10 days before I even felt human again. Even something ss simple as feeding the dogs was impossible. Getting their dogfood down and then leaning down to put it on the floor was too much. It took me a good 2 months to get totally back to my pre-op exercise routine. So give yourself a bit of a break and remember that everyone is different. The most important thing right now is to take care of yourself and relearn how your body works. -
Thank you everyone. See you on the other side. New_Me 2019

Wondering about stretching your pouch?

I also love adding 1tbsp of cocoa powder (Hershey's Extra Dark) with a sprinkle of ground cinnamon to hot decaff coffee in the evenings. Feels like you're sinning for no extra sugar or artificial sweetener. Great polyphenols, a hit of magnesium, fiber, and serious satisfaction for very very few cals. Add some canned whipped cream for about 10 cals and <1g of carb to feel even more decadent! -
Looking for encouraging positive stories

Hi from an American Cousin! Things a little different but I do share in your Hopes and Dreams. Nope, me neither! So Frustr8's Sartorial Rebirth? Colors, prints, Maybe polka dots? Leggings, always envied others wearing them, Now I do in 17-19 JUNIORS,my original goal was a 15 Junior, so Achievable? Oh Yeah!.And a NSV - type Victory? Saw my profile as I passed something Reflective, I am still a Larger- than- Life person, this regenerated Tomboy will NEVER BE PETITE, but no booty protruding in the back, little if any Pooch in the front, I actually look like somebody You might want to meet and greet on the street instead of a Train Wreck of Flesh, And I Think I actually look Taller now! And you'll please Excuse my 💦 of Joy because although it too also happened for OTHERS it never did before for ME! Although the Bariatric Clinic has gone out of their way to ignore and frustrate ME, Thank You Again Dr Needleman ! Between your skill and my perseverance ---A Miracle has been Wrought! Surgery tomorrow, 11:30 VGS. Dr. called to let me know of an emergency. He has to leave town after surgeries tomorrow. Another Dr. Will be on call for emergencies and his nurse practitioner will be doing rounds and checking in with him. Do I want to reschedule? Nope, I trust him and know he would not ask someone to cover whom he did not also trust. So tomorrow it is! Best of luck to all of us July 23 peeps! New_Me 2019

What made you realize you needed a revision to your roux-n-y surgery
ValerieInMexico replied to Polishanita1's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I did not even know it was possible until someone told me about their procedure. This person had a revision and lost 50 pounds. I consulted with her surgeon, wondering what he could do to help me with gastric reflux and making my stomach pouch smaller. He explained the choices and then made a recommendation. Really, I would not have thought of it on my own, but now I am excited. My RNY did help me loose 100 pounds, 19 years ago and I kept 80 or so off, so it was successful. I just want to go further and he will see if there is something he can do with the reflux. -
soooo my surgery is on wednesday!! it’s so crazy that it’s already here ! any tips? any advice?

July 2019 - Surgery Schedule
Flo-grown replied to Mom_of_Chaos's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi surgery sibling!! I'm so glad your foot did not delay your surgery! My goal during the pre OP diet was to lose 15 lbs, I'm down 10 lbs as of today. I'm now hoping I'll lose a total of 20 lbs before surgery. I've lost a total of 45lbs since January. We seem to have a lot in common, I got a job promotion end of last year and my granddaughter is 9 mos old. I also have a 5 yo grandson that keeps me pretty active. I struggle to keep up with them but I know it will get easier once the excess weight is off. I still cannot believe how close it is to surgery day!! My surgery is at 1pm on the 31st. My preop appt is Wednesday at 4pm. I pray your surgery goes well and you have a speedy recovery!! Sent from my [samsung Galaxy] using BariatricPal mobile app -
Starting weight 200 or less get vsg???
Cameo325 replied to Milaa's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Following this thread as well. I am 5'2" and started my journey at 213. Lost 25 lbs prior to surgery, so weighed right at 185 at surgery. They say that is why I am losing so slowly now. Only 23 lbs in 11 weeks, averaging just under 10 lbs a month. I guess I'll be happy if I stay losing at this rate, but I'm afraid I'm slowing down even more as we go along. What is everyone else's experience so far? -
I go in on 8/2/19 and have been hitting the gym 3 times a week.. My question is should I let me body rest 1 week or 2 days before the surgery.. Since this site is for post o.o what are some things you would of done diff or the same but what is it that you did.. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-J727AZ using BariatricPal mobile app
