    Eating Post-Op?

my puree phase allowed soft scrambled eggs, greek yogurt, cottage cheese, ricotta cheese, pureed lean meats, etc. I pretty much lived on tuna or salmon pouches or canned chicken pureed with plain greek yogurt for lunch and dinner. breakfast i had an egg, or yogurt or cottage cheese (small curd). I think with the puree phase - you just kind of have to get through it and look at what you are eating as necessary medication to get your protein in.

    Eating Post-Op?

Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, and refried beans are pretty standard for me.

    Liquid protein

My docs plan said to drink 4oz protein drinks 6x daily =about 24oz and in between that I was supposed to drinks 4-8oz of no calorie beverages crystal light, diet Snapple, broths, water etc. I feel fine a week out and have lost 10lbs so far but it is hard to wake up at 8am and take in all the recommended fluids by 6pm. It takes me until about 9pm still. The time it takes is getting better as my stomach heals. I am on full fluids for another 2 weeks but I get to have yogurt cream soups and cream of wheat too so its okay lol Good luck!!!!
  6. Part of it depends on if you are going through TSA PRE. I have not had a problem with my blender, Protein powders et.al. in my carry on. It ticks me off that they consider yogurt a liquid, but I'm not going to get that bent out of shape. BTW, try to travel with some sort of rescue food. When I flew when I was at this stage, I usually ended up buying a Protein shake or Soup at the airport. I'd blend dinner in my room , (it's only for a week)

    What kind of evil monster...

Yes those goodies as I call it! My husband has chocolate chip cookies, chocolate covered Graham's, chips different kinds. So glad my taste changed! I tasted chips at 1 year post and gross! Chocolate of any kind oh except white tee hehe I can't stand. Peanut butter or anything with nuts is yuck to me. I used to love pp&j sandwiches. I can't even drink diet sodas, they burn in my belly? even to stir bubbles out it taste flat. I took a drink of my daughters oh man diet Dr Pepper, big mistake yuckie. Glad my taste has changed, though I eat real food now I will also put yogurt in freezer or now and then a scoop of frozen yogurt that comes in an ice cream container. My husband is not tolerant of dairy so he still love his frozen yogurt! So hopefully one of these days you can look at that "stuff" laying around on a table at work won't bother you as much

    Pre-OP Diet

Thank you so much for such a sweet reply! I will be eating a lot of yogurt and light Protein shakes for sure. For a moment I thought I could only take in 15 grams of carbs a day, but I think it meant per serving, haha. I was like, "How am I going to survive this?!" XD I LOVE Crystal Light. I actually drink it right now even though I'm not on a diet. The lemonade one is so yummy! This week is going to be hard since my stomach is still big. After my surgery, I assume I won't be as hungry as I am now.

    Feeling Horrible

Honestly, the liquid diet is agony. There is no way around it. I cheated 3 times, and I will not do it again. And on full meals, not just a little something to tide me over. We are addicts, and our bodies are purging carbs/sugars/caffeine and whatever else is in our diets. Headaches and lethargy seem to be par for the course. The first few days were the worst by far, and I found that after I ate real food I was back at square one. So, if you stick to the diet it will get better. I am begrudgingly on day 5, one week to go. I do miso broth for lunch, or get bone broths that I season with a little Worcestershire or spicy seasonings, lime, lemon, you name it. Anything to make it more bearable. You can also get unflavored Protein to add to soups if you prefer. I have no experience with them, but a lot of folks including my surgeon has recommended them. My diet does not include yogurt, cream of wheat, meat, veggies or any food other than Protein shakes and clear liquids. Blows. Its suckiness is unavoidable but YOU CAN DO IT. Just power through. Get your warrior swag on and swallow those shakes! If they are truly unbearable talk to your nut. I also use almond extract, cinnamon, and vanilla extract to make them more palletable. I even used pumpkin pie spice in a vanilla shake and it was pretty darn good. Also Thom Kha and Thom Yum thai soup broths are indeed mighty tasty - but steer clear of Tom Kha, it is made with coconut milk which is very high in fat/calories.

    Protein

One thing I wish I had known was how important protein is for health and weight loss. I might have never needed WLS. There are many sources of protein: supplements Meat (beef, poultry, fish, pork, lamb/mutton, goat, frog, shellfish, etc., etc,) Dairy (milk, cheese, yogurt) Nuts, Beans, and legumes (nuts, nut butters, beans, hummus, etc) Vegetables In my program guide there is a whole list of protein sources. Have you met with a nutritionist or had any nutrition education, yet? You mention a couple of times how you don't like chicken. There is no law that says you have to eat chicken. You don't have to eat chicken, it just happens to be easy to find, especially at restaurants. You don't have to eat bland food. You can use herbs and spices to flavor your food.

    I'M SO HUNGRY!

@@reddy4chng Going without Protein isn't an option. You have to force it down if you want to or not, if you feel hungry or not. Keep in mind Protein shakes count toward your liquid intake for the day with most Drs. As well as Yogurt, Jello and anything else that turns to liquid at body temp. 12. I wait like 45 seconds to a Minute between each bite, im only 12 days post op tho so i haven't really ate any real food yet lol. But i can relate tho, i usually cook my food to a high temp to discipline me from eating too fast. Sent From Galaxy Note 5 using the BariatricPal App I am 2 weeks out - what are you eating? I am getting super bored of mushy eggs and stuff.....uhhh, I need ideas! Ha I am 4 weeks out so my diet options are likely more expanded. I cannot drink all day, as I have to do the 30/30 thing. I have yogurt, cottage cheese, some fruit, chicken, ground meat, some cooked veggies --- sounds more exciting when I write it, but 2 oz meals is hard to do more than one item.

    PRE-OP DAY 1

Thanks guys for the advice! Taking it all in one day at a time. Today I have a slight headache..I just took some ibuprofen. I can't have any yogurt. Only shakes, Jello, crystal light, broth, popsicles. .straight liquid..like no short cuts LOL...these popsicles will be a meal LOL.. 14. I don't like that when they take the fat out they add sugar. I used to use it a bit, mixed with Greek yogurt as a dip or sprinkled in oatmeal or a protein shake... Now I just use real no sugar added peanut butter or Syntrax matrix PB Cookie protein powder
  15. @@Laughkc11 - I love coffee, so I'll try adding those to shakes. Yes, I'm allowed no sugar added, low fat greek yogurt that has high Protein, but no chunks of any kind. I can also have skim milk. I agree that the salty soup flavor helped switch things up a bit. When I tried that ProtiDiet creamy chicken protein soup, it tasted like heaven! I hate it slowly with a spoon, imagining noodles in it. I'm sure before this diet I would not have liked it at all, but after 6 days of the sweet shakes and yogurts, it seemed like "real food".

    I'M SO HUNGRY!

Meal Replacement shakes, like the ones I mainly used - SlimFast High Protein/Advanced Nutrition badged shakes, come with some extra calories, typically because they add some healthy fats - those are 180 cals each with just 1g of sugar and 20g of Protein. Three of those a day is 540 cals, add a greek yogurt and you're at 660 cals - not so bad.

    PRE-OP DAY 1

I'm on day 8 of the preop diet. The first few days are the hardest. They say it gets easier day 3. I think it did, but then day 4 was hard for me. I was craving everything. I think it was because I was camping with a large group of people and handling food for everyone. I was so proud that I didn't cheat - not one bite. You can do this!! Can you have yogurt on yours? I can have greek yogurt. I try to do a few different things with it and I find it more filling that shakes. I got some sugar free Hershey's syrup (only 8 calories a tablespoon). I put that on top and put it in the freezer for a little bit. Don't freeze it solid though, it's too hard to eat. If you time it just right, it comes out like soft ice cream! I kid you not! LOL. I also bought some popsicle makers last night and plan to do some yogurts in there and maybe try some Isopure in there. I don't know if that will work or not. We shall see. On day 6 I tried ProtiDiet chicken flavor Protein Soup (the one without the noodles). I ate it with a spoon to make it feel more special. It tasted so fabulous! It was like a creamy chicken and I kept imagining it had noodles. Ha, ha. But I think the switch up of flavors from the sweet shakes and yogurts to a salty soup was great. It's only 80 calories and has 15 grams of protein. https://www.amazon.com/Protidiet-Creamy-Chicken-Soup-Pouches/dp/B001FUEY56/ref=sr_1_2_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1469017521&sr=8-2&keywords=protidiet+chicken+soup I'm trying out the Isopure too. I have to be careful with artificial sweeteners. That has 40 grams of protein and is a clear fruity drink. I think that might be the easiest thing to drink post op. It's different, but doable I think, especially if you're doing it slow. If you have any tips you've discovered, let me know. I have one more week then... SURGERY! :-)

    How restricted is your sleeve?

Don't be afraid of staying on protein shakes for a while. Everyone has their own time frame for healing, and shakes are non-irritating and you get a big dose of protein, even if you can take only 2 oz at a time. I pretty much was all shakes and yogurt for 6 weeks postop. If you'll just be patient, you reach a time that you can eat a few spoonfuls or forkfuls of anything you want. Like a skinny person.
  19. Hi everyone. Coming up on day 7 post op. Down 13 pounds. Very little pain and overall feeling good except for one thing- I AM SO HUNGRY! Everyone says we should not be hungry but I know what I'm feeling is physical hunger. All day I think and dream about food. Not even super fatty food. Just a bite of chicken breast or a cucumber would make me happy. I'm dreaming about the purée stage at this point. I've been getting my liquids and Protein in but that only totals to about 200-300 calories a day. I've been adding GENEPRO to almost everything I consume to get my protein in. shakes started making me sick and I'm even allowed yogurt and SF pudding. Taking a PPI twice a day. What should I do??? I don't feel like this is normal. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  20. It is powdered Peanut Butter. For me, the benefits are taste and Protein with minimal calories. I have added it to pudding, Greek yogurt, and oatmeal.
  21. I add it to my chocolate protein shake. I've mixed it with water to make into a peanut butter consistently-- it's good, but doesn't keep well. I couldn't be bothered whipping up a little each time I got a craving for Peanut butter. So I mainly use it as an add in to stuff now. I've tried it in yogurt, and oatmeal-- I don't love it or hate it that way.

    Pureed Foods

This looks like my post op guide. Lol! All great suggestions. Here's a little of what I've been doing. I made Turkey chili for the family yesterday. Set some aside for myself. Threw it in the blender, threw a little shredded cheese on top. Made a great lunch and dinner for the past 2 days. Good Protein source. (Ground turkey, Beans, cheese) Scrambled eggs w/cheese oatmeal. I use evap milk and a little Splenda for flavor. Fruit smoothies w/greek yogurt. Id like to do a Premier Protein vanilla or strawberrywith a banana blended to give it a little more thickness to make it like a milkshake I also do baby foods 1st and 2nd stage. chicken, turkey Fruit (apples, peaches, banana) Squash, veg medley, Mashed potatoes w/ sour cream Sweet potato pureed of course Just remember most things can be pureed. I have no problem throwing tuna and a little mayo in the blender. Salmon w a little olive oil Protein first!

    Question about Fruit

I'm not sure if it will affect me just yet. I'm 18 days post op. I've been doing about 1 serving of fruit 3-4 medium strawberries (i use a fruit/veg peeler to trim off the skin seeds) 10 blueberries, 3-4 peach slices (no skin) and maybe 1/3 of a banana. I started purees on Fri so recently I've been placing those fruits with a 1/2 cup of triple zero greek yogurt pureed in the nutribullet. It makes about a 6 oz serving and I split it up into 2 servings to have in the morning before my workout and as an afternoon snack. Goes down well. No issues. If I begin gaining, i'll cut it out. For now it's absolutely Devine.
