    I can't hardly believe it's been almost a year! YOU are doing GREAT! I am loving "less space" taking up! I feel like the weight loss was slow, I felt "stuck and hovering" around the same # for a LONG few months! I kept on doing my thing, it's slowly coming off. I am ALMOST to ONEDERLAND!

    I’m struggling a bit, weight loss is very, very slow. BUT diabetes is GONE! I’ve adjusted to my new lifestyle and love my long daily walks, just wish the scale would budge, I’ve been hovering around the same number for 6 weeks

    Slow Losers Club…..officially *sigh*

    Yup, slow loser right here too or at least I do count myself one. 210 surgery date weight 1st month - 18 pounds 2nd month - 10 pounds 3rd month (Feb) - 7.6 pounds 4th month - about 12 pounds And in my 5th month now: Half way through and only have lost about 3 pounds 😂 (I have stalled for more than a week now). Let's see how this month ends. So yeh, more or less I do think I am slow loser with stalls here and there. And yes it does get to you but seeing many others talk about it, I am being hopeful that I'll eventually get there.
  5. Hi all, my name is Carrielee and I am 31 years old. I have battled being overweight / obesity since I was a young child and I’ve finally gotten the courage to taking the steps toward a healthier self. At 31, I’m 5 feet tall and weigh 278 pounds, at a BMI of 54.29, it’s time to do this. I suffer from a myriad of weight related health conditions and fear an early death if I don’t take control of my weight and health. I suffer from acid reflux, hypertension, high cholesterol, Type II diabetes, arthritis, limited mobility, chest pain/angina, sleep apnea, liver disease...I’m slowly killing myself and I’m tired of it. Any tips for a first consult with a WLS surgeon? My appointment is on April 25.

    Can you believe that it has almost been a year?! @Tripletsmom1971: your numbers look fantastic! I am plugging away. Weight loss is definitely going slower, but still fairly steady. I am enjoying taking up less space, for sure 🙂 I am curious to know how everyone else is doing too!

    I am about a year out and I was worried I would lose all the weight and then gain it back like I always do. It’s just because of all the yo-yo diets we have all done that didn’t work out.

    Perfectly understandable. I went through the same emotions years ago. I was walking 10 miles a day, counting calories and I had this irrational fear that the number on the scale would go down, I would lose the weight, BUT I would look exactly the same. 🤔 I think it’s something that many of us think about.

    I start my options classes next month and was wondering about a good surgeon, I live in Bakersfield but would like to get my surgery done in West LA, I'm just a little concern about my regular doctor's comments about if I don't lose the weight I don't get the surgery and I'm just above qualifying BMI with sleep apnea. So I have questions about which doctor isn't as strict about losing the weight before the visiting the surgeon. I'm also doing all the classes online, how does that work about weighing me?

    Not losing weight

    You're in a stall. And your weight loss is in normal range because you started at a lower weight. You lost 10% of your body weight in two months. I lost 11% of my body weight in the first two months. Very similar. You're on track. Pounds wise, yes, I lost more, but I also started well over 300 pounds. Try not to stress as your weight loss is on track. Though yes, stalls are frustrating. I had many, many, many, many stalls in my journey. Several even that went in the 40 day range (which is way beyond the norm which is usually 3 weeks) so I fully understand how disheartening they are. Just keep on track and it'll break in time. The stalls are generally just your body trying to readjust itself.

    Not losing weight

    1) you're in a stall. Just make sure you're following your program to a "T", and it should eventually break 2) you're starting out at a much lower weight than many of us. Therefore, it's not going to come off as fast as if you started out weighing 300+ pounds 3). 1000 calories a day should be fine. I was eating 600-800 when I was about where you are in the journey. That 600-800 from about month 2 to almost a year out used to be pretty standard, but nowadays some surgeons are recommending higher levels. But 1000 should be fine. Again, you're likely just in a stall.

    Cutting hair pre-op

    Shorter hair often looks thicker & bouncier (less weight of the length to pull the hair down) so it can lessen how noticeable any hair loss is. Even though I had long thick hair I started to get that straggly thin look in the bottom 4 inches so I had that cut off about a month into the hair loss. Then I cut it to just above my shoulders after around three months of losing which is when it actually slowed & then stopped. I’ve kept the shorter length - much easier to look after. It doesn’t matter if your hair is long or short if your natural hair loss cycle is accelerated post surgery & with your weight loss, you’ll lose hair.

    Poor Blood Panel Results :(

    So many us us don’t have such regular & thorough health checks as we do during this process. And because some health issues manifest slowly we don’t notice the changes as symptoms or we just blame something else - oh it’s just age or my weight or …, etc. Even though your results have been a set back, aren’t you glad the issues have been identified & your doctor wants to help you get better & healthier. Though you have to wait longer, you’ll be in a much healthier & stronger place to have the surgery. I’m very happy my surgeon & doctor were vigilant all through my weight loss & would monitor or order further tests aberrations & still are. I still have three monthly blood tests & check ups at almost three years post surgery. And generally I’m very healthy.

    Hi ErickaB! My sleeve surgery is May 20 but we are just about the same height and weight!! And I also want to go from 269 to 140!! ❤️

    No weight loss ?

    Ask your surgeon & dietician for more specific guidelines around food choices, portion sizes, protein & fluid goals especially if what they gave you was not detailed enough. Once on soIid foods, many follow a low carb, low fat, high protein diet & reduce sugar intake. Eat your protein first & then any (cooked to begin) vegetables you are able too. You’ll find you won’t have room for much else after your protein to begin. Only eat until you’ve had what you need not until you are full. Eat slowly. Take small bites. Keep food moist & tender. Dry, coarse food can cause discomfort, feel like it’s got ‘stuck’ in your throat or cause your restriction to kick in quickly. I always weight differently on my doctor’s scale so I let them keep their records & I keep track of my own weight loss. You’ll also discover your own natural fluctuations - fluid retention, constipation, etc., even stall cycles, as long as your weight loss trend is going down you’re golden.
  17. Hi V! Glad you were seen by your GI doc. Perhaps some coconut water or milk for a gentle replenish of electrolytes. Some Pro biotic, Yakult or a supplement. There really is more to gain from compliance than there is that we lose in the temporary limitations. Yes I re gained 100% of my wt loss from a RNY 23 yr ago.. I followed everything the first year or two, then over time started snacking, having one more bite, a cpl cocktails, sparkling water and so on. I normalized the incremental weight gain and then it just all got to overwhelming to get off. I was eating everything just like everyone around me was eating. I went through several hoops over the last few years to get my revision. I wanted a surgeon with experience because my first RNY was open so I have a ton of scar tissue. I put aside cocktails years ago. Just a bad habit and empty calories. But changing my comfort foods, grazing, and sugar has been a struggle. The last 6mo have been a Re commitment to myself. The last 3 I have been completely off the grazing behavior, no more carbonated water, sugar very limited. Now I just need to push through to Tue to my Post Op where my diet will be advanced. Be Well!   20. Hi! Is diarrhea normal when on the all liquid pre-op diet? I'm on day 4. My intestines are nonstop rumbling and causing discomfort. I have probably gone #2 about 5-7 times so far and I've been awake for only 8 hours today. I called my surgeon's office today to ask if I can somewhat expand my diet or maybe add some other things to it (like fiber? or chia seeds?) and I was told I'd have to make an appointment and the next availability wasn't until June 9 (LOL my surgery is scheduled for April 26th). I was on such a clean diet and losing weight prior to the all liquid diet. I was at the gym daily lifting heavy too. I stopped going to the gym since I started the all liquid diet. I still try to do daily 1 hour walks to at least get my system going. I'm worried about working out how I was when I'm probably on a 500 calorie diet now... I've had nonstop GI issues for over a year now that I've been working with my GI doctor to figure out. And the all liquid diet isn't helping. I'm not quite sure what I can do or where to seek help. I do have access to a 24/7 nurse through my insurance so I may explore that tonight just for advice from a nurse. Being honest, I just don't feel okay in regards to my digestive system. I'm uncomfortable and constantly running to the bathroom. I feel bloated and gassy. Sometimes the urge to go #2 is super strong and I try to run to the bathroom (which isn't even far from me) and I've already had accidents. I know this is super raw and honest, but I'm so shocked at how my system is reacting. I know I already had other GI issues so this certainly isn't helping one bit. Do people have normal stools during the all liquid diet? Is diarrhea common? What should I do? Any advice or tips?

Did you regain weight after a first initial surgery? I had naturally lost 100+ lbs about 9 years ago and with time, I regained it all. This surgery is my second attempt at losing 100+ lbs.

    Not losing weight

    I had VSG in February and haven't really lost that much weight. I started at 192 the day of surgery, and am at 172 today. I have been 172 for 3 weeks now and have not seen any change I wonder if I'm not getting enough calories. I only eat about 1000 calories a day. I struggle to get my fluids in as well.

    I understand your frustration with the possibility of delays regarding your surgery date. But don't blame yourself, if you do indeed have PCOS, it's not your fault. PCOS causes lots of hormonal issues which in turn causes abnormal lab results. So be gentle with yourself. I'm not sure what your height and weight is, but if you are diagnosed with PCOS, it will help get insurance approval if you don't have other comorbidities. Your journey to surgery and a healthier life may have taken a slight detour, but stick with the program and you will get to the finish line. That's what matters most of all. You can do this! Best wishes on your journey!
  24. Hey everyone, Hope you're all doing well! So, I kind of just need to vent for a bit. I know everyone's experience is different and only my Doctor and Surgeon can give medical insight, but I'm hoping someone may have been in a similar situation as I am. So, before I could schedule a surgery date I had to do all the tests. The last step (which I now wish was the first step), was my blood panel. All results came back good, except the blood panel. The results returned showing that my Vitamin D, B12 and folic acid are all low. Easy enough to fix with a supplement. It also showed the my cholesterol was low, so my Doctor said to make sure I am eating healthy fats (avocados, nuts, fish, etc). *Possible TMI --> She also wants me to get an intravaginal ultrasound as she found heightened testosterone levels and yeast in my urine. Ultimately, she wants to rule out PCOS (which was ruled out in my teens, but that was roughly 20 years ago) But then she went on to explain that my A1C test (blood sugar test that shows my average over 3 months) was at a 10, while normal is 5.6 or less. With this number, it constitutes as Type 2 Diabetes. Because I have never had issues with this before, she is requesting that I wear a glucose monitoring device (in arm) for 2 weeks and begin a weekly injection called Trulicity. Apparently Trulicity will help lower my blood sugar levels, but also could bring on weight loss as it decreases overall appetite. She is hoping to see improvements in the next 3 months, but until then will not issue the clearance. I understand it is important for me to be healthy as my body will need all it can to heal post-surgery, but I am truly discouraged. 1. I'm angry at myself that I let things get this bad. 2. I'm worried that all my other tests will become null and void, since I'm fairly certain they are only valid for 6 months. Most were done in March and with having to wait at least 3 months - it's really cutting it close. 3. Has anyone been in a similar situation? If my numbers don't come down, does that mean surgery is out of the question? I appreciate the listening ears and any input or advice! Thank you and hope everyone has a wonderful Easter weekend.
  25. I have decided to start the process of getting gastric bypass and my sister is doing the same thing and she has her surgery scheduled for beginning of May. I'm just struggling with the whole process! I feel guilty for being hungry and wanting to eat. Like physically hungry not just head hunger. And when I do eat I feel like it's never a healthy enough choice and I constantly hear my sister and the surgeons PA in the back of my head saying I'm not eating healthy enough, or I'm eating too much or not enough? This is what scares me about this whole process because I've tried losing weight in the past and I became SO OBSESSIVE with counting calories that I went days without eating.
