  1. Hello All, and Happy Friday!! I was banded last Tuesday the 12th. I had 1 week of thick Soups, pudding, etc....anything that you can pour. I did fine that first week, I didn't have any pain at all, and I was good with eating. I am now able to eat anything I want, but the Dr. told me to start with softer foods, egg salad etc... Now, when I started to eat regular foods, my problem is that my brain is still not understanding that I can't eat all the foods that I want. I am having a really hard time with only putting a little bit of food on my plate. I think this is because I have been a BIG eater all my life. All of my plates have been filled to the brim with food. So now I am having problems with stopping myself from eating too much. So, I guess I just need to know if anyone has had this problem too. That it takes a little while for your brain to follow your stomach. Because right now, I feel horrible. I feel horrible that I can't stop myself from eating too much. I feel horrible that I can't feel satisfied with 1/2 cup of food on the plate. And this has already caused me to think that I have failed the band. That I am not working it like I should. I know, it has been 10 days since the surgery, so I shouldn't be too hard on myself. But it is hard to sit here and wanting to slap myself silly because my stomach is too full and I should have stopped eating when I felt that it started to fill up....but instead I kept eating, thinking..."well, I hardly ate anything..."!!!! I feel so irritated with myself. Okay, I will pull myself up and start again. I have lost 11 pounds so far, so I will just have to keep it fresh in my mind that I have to MEASURE!!! That seams to be the problem I have....I have to measure my food....THEN WALK AWAY from the kitchen! Sorry for the long rant....just feeling scared and stupid for not listening to my body. But I will do everything I can to work this band! Did I tell you I lost 11 pounds!!! :w00t:
  2. Hi I used slim time and had no problem with them. I got the vanilla and then you can mix your own flavoring in. Dr. Coburn is my doctor too. He's great. I have had zero problems. My surgery went great. I healed in like 10 days. and I'm having great success as of five weeks post op. I have very little hunger, eat my small meals and I'm done. I don't think about food or crave food or feel like snacking at all. I have not had bread, Pasta, rice, for over 7 weeks and don't miss it. Once I have my Protein 3 to 4 ounces and some veggies, I'm feeling very satisfied and there is no room for the startch. and believe me, I used to live on carbs. But no more, I'm amazed every day that this is me, eating sensibly and not feeling like I'm starving or hungry or about to fall off the wagon and binge. You'll do great...Dr Coburn understands us and just follow all of his instrucions and you'll do fine. I go in for my first fill on Sept 14th. I probably won't need much as I already have a bit of restriction. Good luck.
  3. I am very discourgaged right now. I had the band implanted on October 27th and I have only lost 31 lbs. since then. That includes me working out 2 hours per day 6 days per week and I have had 2 fills! I live in Charlotte and I really need a support group that can help me through this. I am so disheartened and I don't want to do! Can anyone help me? Jaime:help: Lap Band Implanted: 10/27/2005 Last fill: 7/3/2006 Total Weight Lost: 31 pounds Charlotte, NC

    Clothes

When I shrink past my stash of clothes I'm going to invade my daughters closet. She has more clothes than you can shake a stick at. She will really be surprised this winter. She donated a bunch of clothes to the church garage sale and I bought them. They are all winter clothes in size 10 and 12 so I'm sure by winter I'll be able to wear them. If they're too big it's not like I spent a fortune on them.

I went in for surgery at 8am and was in the car riding home at 10:30am, the same day.

    lower bmi bandsters

Hi! My BMI was 36, I had no comormidities, so went to Dr.Ortiz in Mexico. I had my surgery on 8/19 and am down almost 40 lbs. and am very happy with my decision. I haven't had a fill yet though, one of the few. I still find it hard to eat sometimes, and I'm losing on average about a pound a week so I'm happy. I can't imagine how much I'd lose if I did have the fill....

    Banded

Way to go. Welcome to bandland. I am 8 days in and have lost 10 lbs this week. No preop diet so its all afterwards.
  8. So today marked day 6 of my pre-op diet. I've generally been doing pretty good with it. I realize I have to do this and I've put my mind to it to get it done. Today was a very busy day. We've recently finished our basement and I had lots to do building shelves and hanging pictures. Right after I started working my knees started to throb. Then my back began to ache. After about an hour I got nauseas and a bit woozy. I struggled through the rest of the day taking many breaks and resting my knees and my back. Once the day was done, I took a shower and realized why I'm about to have life changing surgery in 10 days. Sure, I'd like to look hot again (or as hot as a 60 year old guy can) but after today the real reason came out. I can't live anymore carrying about 150 lbs of extra weight. Although my doc says I'm the healthiest fat guy he's ever seen, I know that if my joints and muscles are breaking down so badly from this weight, the rest of my body can't be far behind. Looking good will be a great side affect from my surgery but truly the best benefit will be being healthy once again.
  9. HI Everyone, I'm new here...was sleeved on 9/9/13....had horrible gas the first two days post op but by morning of day three i had no more gas...I never had any pain except during coughing so after gas was gone I needed no further pain med...my food allowance and progression is 1st week-clear liquids, 2nd week full liquids, 3rd week soft/puree, 4th week regular texture no bread, pasta, for 1st 4-6 months.... so Im on full liquids which includes greek yogurt, hot cereal, pudding, milk, protein shakes, etc,,,so far so good for me, I belch way more than I ever did, and I'm finally able to drink and get at least 32 ounces and get all my protein in. taking my supplements is another story, Im having a hard time getting the pills down.. they get stuck while trying to go down and it burns and causes nausea. today was the first day I had no burning and got the pills down while taking continuous sips....I've decided to weigh myself weekly. started pre-op surgery day 237 and upon leaving hospital I was 5lbs down, one week later 10 lbs down. I'll weigh myself again. on 9/23. im excited about my journey though i must admit , I cant wait to have some textured food....please discuss your experiences...Im excited to hear about others

    need advice

No regrets whatsoever for me!!! And nothing for me was really the "worse part." I could have been released the day after surgery, but my program called for 2 nights hospital stay. If there was a "worse part" it would have been in the first 10 hours or so after surgery when rolling over and sitting up was uncomfortable. But all the walking I did after surgery really helped me with that. Everybody is different. My first week was a snap and it has been ever since. I've been really lucky! Maybe you will be too. Here's the best advice I can give... Be prepared for stalls in weight loss. They will happen soon and more times than you'd hope. Celebrate the little victories of a pound here and a pound there. You're not on the game show The Biggest Loser and your weight isn't going to melt off. Don't let the scale rule your life. I weigh in once a week, but I know some people who only weigh in at their monthly or quarterly doctor's checkup. Judge your weight loss by how loose your clothes get, how slim your face looks, and how much energy you have once you've hit your sleeve weight-loss stride. Good luck and take care.
  11. Had first fill on Monday a month after surgery; I now have 4ccs in my 10 cc band. I had liquids/mushies Monday and Tues. and I was pretty hungry. Now I am back to solids and doing ok. Can anyone explain what restriction feels like?
  12. i'm only 2 days out, but i find that i have to force myself to drink. did anyone else have discomfort while they drank Water / protien drinks / or other stuff? the feeling doesn't last long - maybe 10 seconds or so. i'm a revision patient (from band) and i dont remember having this feeling after i had the band. just curious if others had the same feelings right after surgery and how long it lasted. i hope it doesn't last long because i'm not getting all my protien / fluids in yet. i'm maybe just getting half.

    4 Days Post Op

Please hang tough, the first few days were really rough for me... Like everyone is saying, it gets better each day! Try your best to stay hydrated the first few days post op. I'm 10 days out and feeling stronger everyday, don't get me wrong there were times I thought I regretted it too but I keep reminding myself : "I don't need easy, I just need possible "..... Keep ur chin up, praying for u!

    I'm a Lap Band failure

I bought a digital scale that weighs in ounces. 10-14 ounces of food is more than you think. I was surprised to find how big 7 ounces of steak is. Think of this... if you go to applebees and order their steak from the 2 for $20 deal. the steak they give you is 7 ounces. Its large enough for me. an average size chicken breast is about 10 ounces. I cant stress enough to eat your protein first. then eat your side. I bought the biggest loser scale for $18 and it has multiple options. you can weigh your plate-zero it out then reweigh the plate of food and it gives you the weight of food minus the plate. The band is not perfect, I had it too tight and had to start all over. unfortunatly for me I didnt know how restriction was good for me until it was too tight. I was banded sept 2010. I have lost 80 pounds. I'd say my key is sticking to my doctor appointments and staying with the diet plan as best I could. For the last year i have gone to regular appointments every 6 weeks. I have fallen off the diet wagon many times over this last year. The appointments help reignite my discipline. Hope this helps....
  16. I was diagnosed with bipolar at the age of 26 or so. Have had 3 major manic episodes, 2 of which landed me in the hospital. Escaped the hospital by the skin of my teeth the third time. I've had my ups and downs since then. Been doing great for about 3 years now, stable on meds. I too had to meet with a psychiatrist before surgery and was completely honest. She talked a lot about addiction transfer (I have other addictions besides food). I was successful loosing all my excess weight in about 10 months. 30 pounds has crept back on. I plan to loose 20 of it, I got just a little to thin, or so people tell me. As long as I loose enough to get back into my jeans I'll be happy.
  17. Sounds great!!! I'm 2 wks post op tomorrow & my recovery sounds just like yours. The being tired easy really bums me out! At my 1 week checkup the dr said of course that was normal & will subside. Today is my first day back at work & I'm feeling good so far. I'm down 19 lbs since surgery /lost 20 in pre-op diet too for a total of 39 so I'm pleased. Keep up the good work & congrats!

    Made a hopeful purchase today

Well I think you will be in a size 12. Personally, I have 2 closets. One for clothes I can wear now and clothes I have not worn in years....I have like 12 pairs of jeans from 24 to 16. Yes when I met my husband 10 years ago, I wore a size 16. Now I am a size 26/28. I have this one dress it is a size 20. It still has tags on it. Looking forward to wearing it. Since it has never been worn. I want to wear my jeans again. So apple get in them dresses I am rooting for you. Sugery date: 5/4/2011 P.S. It really home about the surgery today when I got the letter from the insurance company regarding the approval. I realize my dream for the last few years is actually going to come true.

I fell off the wagon and broke my neck!!!!

I'm so glad I found this thread today. I have been telling myself that I will not have ice cream or shakes, heeding the warnings of my surgeon's office. I'm not sure why, but today I started craving a chocolate shake. After sitting there thinking of nothing else for 30 minutes, I said "screw it, I'm having one". My consolation is that I made it with fat free ice cream and a little Peanut Butter (gotta get that protein!) I felt guilty for about 10 minutes and then decided that there was no reason to - I didn't go overboard, it satisfied a craving and it was a treat, not an every day necessity. jkend - don't beat yourself up. It is what it is - just ride an extra 20 minutes on your bike!

Not really a rant but just frustrating

Even during transition, get a supportive, well fitting bra. Sports bras will work but get fitted. You don’t want to add to the saggy baggy boobs by wearing loose bras too. Only buy a couple (one you’re wearing & one in the wash) and look out for sales & special deals. After suffering back pain from my too large & non supportive bras, I splurged on some new (though pricey) much prettier underwear. Made me feel & look better & no more back pain. Just had to buy another lot of new underwear in a smaller size. I’ve gone from 18F to 14F to 10 FF/G. Hopefully that should be it now. Donated my too big bras to St Vinnies.

Not really a rant but just frustrating

It’s also important for you to know that not everyone ends up looking haggard at all. I still look many years younger than my age. Even when I achieved below my goal weight, there was no haggardness. As a matter of fact, I started getting compliments that I looked even more years younger than my age. It also depends on how you lose the weight. Getting more than 86 oz of fluids (mostly water) and 90 grams of protein daily will help your body to heal correctly. It can be a struggle but it is also possible. I’m a living witness. I also worked out 5 to 6 days a week, cardio and weight training (when I was released to start working out). I lost over 160 lbs in 10 months. You can do it!!
  22. Had my surgery on 10/17/12.... up until now was really wondering what the hell I was thinking. Well, really, I'm still thinking that. I'm just out of sorts. My Dr wants me to stay on Protein shakes, Water and yogurt for the first 21 days. That was making me feel so lethargic and yucky. Yesterday I ate three or four bites of egg and instantly felt better. Is it the different type of protein or is it just in my head? I'm still getting weak quicker than I expect. Still trying to find comfort zone. I started this process to be healthier for my granddaughter. To be able to be active and live longer with her. That is my prize, so each pound lost is more time with her, thus worth every minute of any discomfort I may have.

    Plastic Surgery - Who's had it? ...

Hi Parvathi, I had the full abdomnoplasty and also a medial thighplasty 6 weeks ago. I had some delayed healing and I still have an area between my bellybutton and groin that has not completely healed yet. I have to say that I am thrilled with my new flat tummy. Yes, its a huge scar and thats the trade off. I am not sure how I feel about the thighplasty yet. The scars start at about 4 inches above the knee, and do a T around the groin and buttocks. IT was extremely painful and was much worse than the tummy tuck. The drainage tubes at the hips are the worst. I had mine a short time (about 7-9 days). On a scale of 1-10, this combo of surgeries was about a 9. The best way to have these surgeries is to do one thing on the top and one thing on the bottom. I had both on the bottom and it was excruciating. I thought I would never feel better. I feel 100% better. The other night, I went for a walk feeling bubbly and enthusiastic and one mile later, I was struggling to get back to my door. It really takes a lot out of you. Babs in TX 334/189/170 -154

The band just isn't working for me

I hope you start to lose real soon and stay on a constant reduction. I can';t speak for anyone but myself its been 9 months since you had the surgery and you have only had 2 fills I had surgery Februaury 17 2005 and (in cheking my journal I had my 5th fill November 10 2005. I think you need to get a good fill and watch what you eat (protein protein protein)> You iwll lose it it can be done if I did it anyone can I was the worlds worse when it came to discipline and willpower but I learned how to follow the rules my Dr gave me to the letter, i wanted the weight gone. Get a fill and email me once you start losing. I will be there when you want an ear to listen to you.
  25. Have you been able to incoporate physical activity into your life as well? Perhaps a little exercise can help improve the weight loss numbers you are looking for and exercise can really help to kick metabolism back into gear. You also mentioned that you went up 10 pounds with readjusting your diet but you are back down to only 3 above your start point. Did this increase occur during your physician supervised weight loss period? I was just wondering if your doctor was disregarding the last decrease because there has been a net increase since you began. Good luck with everything.
