    1 week post op -19lbs

That's a lot of weight to lose in your first 10 days! Sounds like things are off to a really good start. Nah, you don't really want that cheesesteak, you just think you do. It's also good that you're working to establish a routine. That will be helpful later on.
  2. I put my weight and age and I do check the heart rate often. I stay in the cardio zone.

Fill Or Not To Fill ?!

Wow, I have been banded over 3 yrs., doc says it's only about 5cc in my band. Funny thing is I decided to get a fill next week, saw him last week and low and behold.....I realize that I don't know what I'm doing. I don't understand how to measure my food, (I haven't made much effort in doing so) and I did today. I felt very different when I ate. I am rereading the guide book I was given and I am getting a better understanding. Doc says we should be able to eat most anything, just smaller amounts. Today I had chicken parm, Pasta and broccoli, I didn"t feel stuffed or uncomfortable. The band is supposed to help us stay full longer on less food. There are many who mange to loose without adjustments and others who don"t with many adjustments. I haven't had many problems, that's just been luck; but I am just starting to see what I should have done to keep things moving. I stopped loosing and recently started to gain. HORROR!!! This is what I have learned. My bites are to large, no problem chewing but when I swallow it is to much and I get uncomforatble. This is what makes me eat what I shouldn't. Hunger is not nor never has been my problem, I am a mindless eater. I nibble and such. I forgot that I still need to sip my liquids. I can get the stuck feeling on water; now I am starting to see these things. Today, I feel very different than I had been feeling. I got overexcited about the 63lbs. I lost. I did it without much work, just gave up lots of sugar. Occasionally I exercised, but no rotuine to it or regularity. Because of this I am slipping into some bad habits The weight is coming back, so that's why the fill on Mon. I plan to get my head in it and work with the tool I have. Take a good look at what you're doing and you might find (as I did) that you aren't doing things the way you should. I don't drink with meals, and until today I thought the uncomfortable feeling was the way it was suppposed to be. If you don't find an answere to your problem then a fill might make you feel like it's to much and you end up going in for an unfill. Good Luck
  4. Haven't been on here too much! Using my tumblr blog and my fitness pal! Just wanted to update anyone that cares to listen Today I had my first fill. My surgeon said that based on my weight loss of 42lbs in 3 months (she called me a show off and an over achiever…haha) she would feel confident sending me on my way without one, but it was up to me. I told her that some days I’d been getting hungry between meals and kind of snacking so a small one may help me. She agreed. So I got my fill(painless and easy as hell), sat there for a minute and drank some water to make sure I could get it down, and got a B12 shot! I love how they make me feel! She said that I wasn’t on any dietary restrictions which kind of shocked me cuz everywhere I’ve read it’s always like 2-3 days of liquids or mushies after a fill. The only thing she said was to chew more than I normally do and take smaller bites just in case I’m swollen or irritated because everyone reacts to fills differently. I feel a little tight and a small amount of shoulder pain (kinda like what I get when I eat too fast) but other than that I’m doing great! I had brocolli cheddar soup for dinner just to be safe

    Weight

From what I understand my dr only submitted my initial weight and my last visit weight. I’d check with your surgeons office. If it’s the same for you it will set your mind at ease to know a little fluctuation is not going to derail you as long as that final weigh in is at or under goal

    Liquid Diet

Setting up heart cath to see how many stents then wait at least a yr for surgery. But I'm going to modify the pre op diet to see how much weight I can lose in the next 12 months.
  7. I'm due for my period this weekend and I'm feeling/looking bloated. I also only lost 3lbs this week ( compatrd to 24 the previous weeks).I'm three weeks out. Everyone says I keep looking thinner but I feel yucky this week. Has anyone else experience slower weight loss with their period looming?

    Post Op Pancreatitis

Try not to worry about the weight loss right now. Stay off the scale. You need to concentrate on relaxing and getting well. Your body is fighting illness AND healing from major surgery. You no doubt have lots of inflammation and are retaining fluid too. Even people not ill usually stall around 3 weeks post-op. Binge watch some netflix, do crossword puzzles, anything to keep your mind occupied. I hope you get the medical issues resolved and then can continue your journey. Good luck.

    Bloating/slow weight loss/pms?

Oh yes, that's 1 week every month that I really can't lose weight. Most times I don't gain weight just hold steady but as you've probably lost all of your water/carby weight it'll be a little slower to take it off now and that time of month can really be difficult. Just have faith that it'll come off the next week, also try to watch your sodium and drink lots of water/tea to flush your body.

What surgery are you picking and why?

Hi, I'm 3 years out from my RNY. I was insulin resistant and on insulin and pills for my diabetes. I took 12 different medications, now I take 4 plus my Vitamins. No more diabetes meds at all. I also take 1/2 of my blood pressure meds, I had hoped to get off of them too but I just don't know how to not stress!! I stress over everything even stupid stuff. So still need them. I went below my goal weight in 6 months. Here are my Stats: HW 249 (this time I was 285#'s and managed to lose 32#'s and keep them off) SW 232 LW 117 CW 125#'s. I have gained 8#'s but the difference that they made is nAMAZING!!! My health is great. I exercise 4 to 5 days a week I walk 4 to 5 miles each time. I have FIBROMYALGIA OSTEOARTHRITIS and the beginning of RHEMTOID ARTHRITIS. But I can say since my RNY it has helped with the pain so much. Good Luck on whatever Surgery you decide to do. I look forward to seeing your journey.
  11. I was sleeved back in October. It wasn't the easiest recovery for me. I ended up with a bleed after surgery and was put back in the hospital for a couple nights but after that everything started to fall into place and the weight started falling off. I am now 78 pounds lighter and many of my comorbidities have been resolved. I feel great. I went from size 20 jeans to a size 6. My breasts shrunk and that was the biggest blessing. With the loss off of my breast fat I discovered a lump that I would not have felt 78 pounds heavier. This was 3 weeks ago. It has been a whirlwind of appointments and procedures since but long story short, I have breast cancer. I had surgery to remove it last Thursday. This has all been shocking and overwhelming but the bottom line is, the sleeve saved my life. I am beyond thrilled with my weight loss and now as I go through radiation and chemo I may have some new challenges ahead with getting proper nutrition but my whole team is on board to help me through this. I look forward to being on the other side of this battle, but I will take it one day at a time knowing for sure that my decision to be sleeved was the best decision ever.

I've never had a fill under fluoro. There are cases where it is necessary if the port has flipped or something but my fills and office visits are covered . I have medicare and BC/BS your bmi is high enough but I don't know what Medicaid will cover . I think there is a weight loss surgery group that helps people pay for weight loss surgery. contact Sandi Henderson @ Bandedliving.com she can help you.
  13. I'm 57 and as much as I'd like to say retired, I really am unemployed. I didn't want to stop working, my job was abolished and I haven't been able to find a job since July of 2013. So I finally figured out a routine - daily chores, lots of longs walks, TV time etc when WHAM! my husband retires at 59. So now my routine is gone, he spends all his waking time with me talking about his job of 37 years, and I'm going crazy. I feel younger, healthier, so much better about myself since surgery and a 41 lb weight loss........but yesterday I wanted to just run away from home, no forwarding address and hide. food isn't comfort any longer, so I don't know how to find peace right now. So I guess I understand what you're going through. I'd love to tell you how lucky you are to have an office to go to each day, but I don't want to minimize your agony. But I do want to share that there are other 50 somethings out here looking for more than the day-to-day, same-old, same-old routine. Since you're in a positive relationship, maybe plan a weekend get-away. Not a blow the budget type thing, but a lets get out of town and see something different type of weekend. Sometimes a change of scenery can help. Good luck on your journey. Congratulations on your weight loss. Good luck finding your new "normal".
  14. Wow, so today is 6 months since my sleeve surgery, unbelievable! It went really fast, I am down 65 pounds and 4 sizes smaller. My question is: what happens now??? What happens next??? How do I continue to "just be" day in and day out? Year in and year out? I am still really struggling with how to use my time now that I am not turning to food all day. I guess I use to just graze the days away and do nothing else. (I didn't realize this) Now I really don't know what to do with myself in the hours between my meals and Snacks. It's emotionally uncomfortable a lot of the time. Sometimes I just sit. I also didn't anticipated this, but I feel that I'm at a disadvantage emotionally and physically having the surgery at my age. I am in my early 50’s so my body isn’t doing what I know it would have done in my 20’s or 30’s, etc. I haven't been able to achieve that excited athletic feeling I used to love. (Will I be able to??) My life is also settled at this point: My career is established and I’m in a 9 year relationship. I don’t have all those "future" goals to aim towards. All those youthful hopes, dreams and wishes. Life gets tough for me when there isn’t a feeling of striving for the future, aiming to achieve something, working towards a goal. My life is very routine when I am wanting to be free and adventurous. It feels like such a waste to finally have the body and the look but no freedom to enjoy it. I just have to keep dragging my new beautiful self into the same boring office everyday. I'm struggling with this concept. Weight loss surgery should come with a one year sabbatical!! Even so, I am on this amazing Journey that still feels so completely surreal. I cannot believe I did this and that this is my life and that I have actually been able to lose weight that I've had on me since I was 17. Life is grand!

    Upmc

I was banded at UPMC Magee hospital on May 13 2010. Dr. Courcoulas did my surgery. So far, I've lost 31 pounds since my surgery and I'm doing good. Have you been banded yet BandedKraut? If not good luck to you! Who is/did your surgery? Looks like you are doing very well with your weight loss! Shadena...Good luck with your surgery! Who is doing your band? It's nice to see ppl that are close to me!
  16. I haven't visited the forums in a long time! But things have been great so I wanted toupdate all of you that helped me so much in the early part of my journey. And just a few questions for old-times sake! 1) I am 4 months post op TODAY! and I have lost 67lbs since surgery, and 72lbs since my highest weight. It's amazing!!!! I didn't think I would lose THIS much! now I'm dreaming of weighing 140lbs....I'm only 45lbs away from goal! it's insane! 2) I FINALLY started an exercise program. I bought one of those mini trampolines, and I've been doing "rebounding" it's great, and really fun, easy on your joints. I think everyone should do it!!!! 3) I am a size 14! 5) I don't count my carbs :-x I know everyone was so worried about the carbs. But I haven't been counting them and I do just fine. I make sensible food choices (yogurt, whole wheat Pasta, cheese, veggies, fruit, seafood etc) and it seems to work just fine for me. Lastly....I haven't lost my hair. AT ALL! Is it going to happen still? I keep waiting, and no sign of hair loss!
  17. You are right about that! 4 days at the same weight and I am on program....Oh well, It is a process!

    vacation and eating

Yes, I am the same way about vacation usually being the end of a perfectly good weight loss effort and the beginning of gain. The truth hurts, but at least I have foresight about it this time. I think my mindset is going to be stay the course knowing potential for train wreck.

    Bloating/slow weight loss/pms?

...I am only a little over a month out, but my first one since surgery was late, heavy, and I only lost 1 lb at Weight Watchers when I did my weekly weigh-in...unfortunately, for we women, I think we will always struggle at that time of the month with the scale, the bloat, etc...surgery or not.

To fill or not to fill ... WWYD

I'm struggling with this issue as well. I leave for France April 25th. I definitely do not have enough restriction, but do I risk being too tight while out of the country? My better judgement says don't get a fill but my appetite says get one. I hate to "waste" the whole month with no weight loss because that's what I think will happen if I don't get a fill. I'm still leaning towards no fill and have an appt for the Monday after I get back. Once another week passes there will be no choice but to wait until I get back. Let me know what you decide.
  21. Georgia Sleeve

    Still trying to decide

Hi and welcome. I'm 4' 11'' and now weigh ~174 pounds. I had the gastric sleeve surgery performed at Emory in Atlanta. I have to be honest the first couple days after surgery are the worst. But it all gets better. It also takes hard work to get the weight off. It just doesn't fall off on its own. And you will need support. As much support as you can get. The best thing is how it has changed my life. I was (keyword is WAS) a diabetic, had high blood pressure, and a few other minor health problems. Now I just take my Vitamins and supplements. Oh, and my happy pills. Other than that and the fact that I still need to lose another 50 pounds, my health is great.
  22. Hi everyone!! I am very new to this, I just created my account this morning. Im not sure if this is the correct place to be posting this so if its not please let me know. Let me first start off by congratulating everyone on your weight loss!!! ( green with envy over here) I am 39 years old, 5ft. 6 and 216 pounds. I am wanting to lose approx. 80 pounds. I started researching WLS options about 2 months ago. I am still trying to decide between the plication and the sleeve. My story is no different than so many people I see in the different forums. I have tried just about every diet out there even the lovely cabbage Soup diet (gag). My weight has been up and down for the last 10 years. Im so tired of the yoyo and the emotional scars that come with it. Ok so enough of the pity party. What I would like to know is this: What made you decide on plication verses the sleeve? Or any other one How did you decide on what doctor to go to? Have you been happy with your choice? What about emotional eating? Stress eating? If there is a problem after surgery where do you go? ( assuming it was done abroad and you live in the states) Thank you in advance for any insight you may have.

    Scale not moving, but......

Awesome Job! I just went through some boxes of clothes this weekend, you know the ones that you will lose weight to fit into. Well guess what I fit into them, size 14. It has been years since I have seen a 14. Also my weight is not moving either, but something is working. Keep up the great work!

    Ugh I Hate My Lap-Band!

I agree... I hated the band! Somedays I was so stuck I couldn't get water through, and other times no restriction at all. Had the band fully emptied and still had issues until it eventually slipped and had to get it out the next day. That was a little over a year ago. Since then I had gained about 20 pounds. I am now 11 days post op from the gastric sleeve and have lost 23 pounds already! Could not be happier with my decision, only wish I had done the sleeve sooner!
