  1. I'm having revision surgery on October 18th. So ready to say goodbye to my demon band! It didn't take long to get insurance approval because I've suffered through years of issues-more fills and unfills than I ever imagined would be possible. My esophagus has become worn out from the work of pushing food past the band. I've spent months with an empty band because the PA at my surgeons office insisted that the esophagus would recover. Done, done and done.... In pre-op diet mode now and the band is once again emptied out. Counting down Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Newly banded

@@jhayden1 Had a successful band for 7 years, and just recently revised to a sleeve (preventive more than necessary) but yes, unfortunately I remember those days before the first fill. Some people had restriction with just the band alone, unfortunately, I was not one of them lol. You'll also be having quite a bit of false hunger sensations and that's from the inside healing and/or acid. Congratz and am excited for you. I loved my band
  5. I had the banded plication surgery approximately 3 years ago. Apparently there was a bulge in the upper part of the stomach where they sewed up the stomach. The stiches weren't stitched and half of the plication was there. Would this explain why I have bad food choices and a difference in my diet? I am going to get it undone. Would anyone know what my options are as far as re-banding in the future or fixing this surgery?
  6. Crybaby... I feel for you. We are in the same boat. I just can't lose with the sleeve. I lost 42 pounds in 8 months with my revision to sleeve. During the past 12 months I have wavered bw 175-185....which is the longest I have stayed that low in my adult life. I feel ok but I just do not understand why I cannot lose more. I live in fear bc my scale bounces up and down... each time creeping a pound or two higher then back down. So scared I will be 230-260 again. I am trying to go back to Protein and Water goals which even though I can't eat large volumes I have not been meeting those goals lately. Stress is a BIG factor! Don't give up.... we did all of this for a reason. Keep in touch! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Dr. Does not stand by choice

I had a similar experience with my primary care doc. She told me she thinks I would be better off trying her three shakes and one meal plan (which was available to purchase that day) instead of having revision surgery. Mind you, she has gained a LOT of weight in the ten years that I've been her patient. I've decided that after I recover from surgery I am going to start searching for a new primary care. Hospital Stay

My revision was overnight stay. Insurance approved 3-4 days. But I did great and wanted to be in my own bed. Oh, and the band removal and RNY was all one surgery. Took 2 hrs. 5 laparoscopic incisions. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  13. I wish that I had a crystal ball six years ago when I made the decision to have the LapBand placed. I wish that I had known that I would spend thousands of dollars on fills and unfills because of the narrow range I could tolerate. I wish I had known that I would spend years chasing the elusive "green zone" that could change at the drop of a hat. I wish I had known that TOM, salt, even air pressure changes could impact how tight the band felt. I wish that I had known that my esophagus could eventually become "tired" from the effort it took to get food through the band. There are many more I could add, but I won't. Needless to say, I'm looking forward to revision to VSG in less than two weeks. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Michigan sleevers

I'm being revised from band on October 18th at Troy by Krause. He did my LapBand at Royal Oak. Troy is so much closer to home so I was happy to have the VSG scheduled there. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Pessimistic Psychologist

She's not a surgeon right? Listen to them, not her. I had a similar experience with my primary care doctor telling me that I should use her new Protein shake program instead of having revision surgery. She doesn't know what she's talking about so I chose to not listen. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  16. Honestly? That I wish I never had it done and did more research on the other options. I was, on the outside, a success...but I suffered a lot to lose my weight and am about to go through revision surgery to Bypass. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  17. I wish I would have known that it wouldn't work for me and it would cause me more problems. That I would have episode after episode for the last 5 years. And now have to have a revision to rny. I wish I would have known I would gain all my weight back and my comorbidities would all have come back. I wish I would have gone with the rny in the first place Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App
  18. I am so sorry you and dealing with all this. I think it's time to look for a different dr or push to look at getting your lap band revised to either a sleeve or gastric bypass. I am not having the same problems as you but having other problems silent reflux that is now GERD, only lost 55 lbs and have gained it all back, intolerance to the band and my bareatric center is looking to do a rivision to gastric bypass. I had my band in 2011. And hope to be rny ed by the end of the year. Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App

    The Losing Battle

Saw the new doctor today. He seemed to really push for revision and the bypass. Of all the surgeries I would never get the bypass because I have seen too many friends/family fail with it. He did also recommend trying behavioral health and seeing a nutritionist again. He also put me on the bariatric 3 diet. Basically the same diet you do right after surgery with liquids and mushy foods. This is going to suck, lol Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  20. WoW, Thanks for sharing your story, I had lap band 4 years ago and have had nothing but complications. Therefore, I am having a revision and removing the band and having the sleeve done I am much more nervous almost scared yet excited for the surgery and the adventure I think I amostly afraid of failing and the biggest my addiction with food!!!Fighting "Head Hunger" LOVE...1 is too many 1000x . Also, reading the horror stories on the complications thread lol. Of course there is always risk, I'm still moving forward. I to want the best out of life for me and my future with my other half and family, life is way to short to be miserable and my first surgery was cash pay, but "You know money comes and goes no regrets just do it" a friend said as I though I would have to cash pay again lol...Great story look forward to following more post! Congratulations!!!!! Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App

    Stalled or plateau

A great thing my surgeon told me is that the best exercise I could do is use an elliptical, I don't have surgery till Oct 25 but I have a lapband that will be revised to sleeve. I found one where I live on letgo app for $35 hope that helps. Then I can exercise at home while kids watch tv or something. Sent from my VS990 using the BariatricPal App
  22. Think you'll find consensus here. I just had my band revised to bypass. There is enough research out there now that says that bands don't work. My. Doctor has gone as far as saying Drs still doing it today should be sued for malpractice, because they know they don't work over the long run. Know 4 people removing them this week alone Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    Surgeon's in kentucky

Dr. Benjamin Tanner, Norton Bariatric Weight management center. He is an excellent surgeon. My lap band revision to bypass is scheduled for October 11. He is a very upfront, yet compassionate and understanding surgeon. My whole process working with the center has been very positive. I hope this helps. Steph
  24. Hi everyone!!! I am 44 and just had a revision from Band to Sleeve 11 weeks ago. I have been overweight since childhood, so my entire life. Long story short. I was banded in 2013, port flipped and was non-accessible. My new doctor an I decided a revision would be best since I had regained everything I had lost (60lbs) with the band. So I was sleeved 7/20/16, the loss is very slow. Im down 39lbs from the beginning of preop. I have a different mind set this time around, so I'm hoping for a great journey. 25. Hi all, Am new to the site so please be gentle I love reading everyone's posts. A little back story... I had the band when I was near 300lbs. I lost about 126lb after giving it my all, exercise became my friend and I was absolutely loving life. However, I always had trouble with the band. I hated the unpredictability of it - some days I was fine, others I could be throwing up multiple times a day. To cut a long story short, I am having a band to bypass revision at the beginning of November (after putting on nearly 5 stone). Am very excited! However, I'm sitting here feeling pretty disgusting after eating a family size bar of chocolate. I want to say that's the only thing I've eaten, but that would be a lie. So my question to you folks...what kind of fat person were you? Did you have have a mega sweet tooth? Gorg on takeaways? Just eat large portions? I suppose I ask because I am intrigued as to how you coped with this change post surgery? I most definitely have a binge eating disorder which I am looking into seeing a therapist about. When I had the band, my food portions weren't cut drastically overnight (apart from the initial period). It took nearly 6 months before I had any restriction, so worked my butt off during that time and took advantage of my new found motivation. My concern going forward is that I was always have this obsession with food...that I will always search for that 'full' feeling, that I will push it further than I should. Not out of greed per se, but more out of self sabotage (I seem to enjoy feeling rubbish about myself, it's what I'm used to). I'm scared of my life being dictated by food...or perhaps it always will be and I just need to deal with that? I just don't want to be fat anymore...or lose all the weight again, but just to put it back on again. I'd be interested to hear if anyone has felt the same and what your experiences are? Sorry for the rambling. Lou Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
