Not tolerating chewable vitamins
bobt1 replied to Letsgetgoing2018's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I too tried several chewables and found their sweetness almost sickening. Liquids were even worse for me. Two recommendations on Complete multivitamin in capsules: These can both be gotten with or without Iron, depending on what you want. Celebrate Bariatric Multivitamin requires 3 capsules a day and then the Procare Health Bariatric Multivitamins that come in a single capsule per day. As to calcium with vitamin D, look at the Life Extension Calcium Citrate with vitamin D3 in capsule form. I have found that soft chews for calcium/vitD from both Celebrate and Procare Health to be quite good but more expensive. I especially like the caramel from Procare to be my favorite. So I take a mix of the capsules and soft chews for some variety. -
The only place I would consider myself is Bariatric Pal MX. I'm not saying the rest could not be good, there may be a few ok but Bariatric Pal Founder Alex Brecher underwent surgery last Spring there. He could have afforded self pay in the USA or anywhere else, yet he trusted Dr I plan enough to have his surgery There. If you find nowhere in US , please consider there. And I am not in their employ and never was. I just am a Buckeye lady who tries to tell the truth always..

@dreamingofasleeve From what I read, it is normal to have some reservations and fear pre-op. In the weeks leading up to my surgery, I know I was certainly questioning myself every step of the way, even up to the surgery itself. As they were strapping me to the operating table, I was crying. And, just like Matt, I can say that I'm glad I did it now. That was not always the case. I went through a similar experience as Matt with Lap Band, but I had my band out long ago and lived without my tool for about 8 years before realizing that I needed help. Since I got sleeved, I've gone through what I call a food "mourning" period where I think about what I've done and what the ramifications are to my relationship with food. There was a certain pleasure in eating and for me, it was linked to socialization and love. I have had to come to grips with that and change. I think I will always struggle with it, a little bit. Today, food is fuel. Yes, I still derive a certain amount of pleasure in it, but I don't eat for pleasure. Today, I eat to live. I don't live to eat. My advice to you is to do a little bit of soul searching. Bariatric surgery of any kind is not the end all/be all. YOU need to examine how much you are willing to adapt and change in order to reach your goals. Any weight loss surgery is a tool, a powerful one, but a tool just the same. Good luck!

My vitamins made me throw up :(
ShimmyShade replied to Dfox1984's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I started throwing up my vitamins also. I used the chewable bariatric advantage. The doctor said to just take a break for a bit from them or try taking them before bed. -
I'm not alone!! I had vomited for three days straight and had to go to the ER it got so bad. I'm on my third week also. They didn't find anything critical so they let me go home. This afternoon I'm meeting with my bariatric team to see what might be going on. I can't even handle strong smells and had to give up all my medications and vitamins!

June Sleevers Lets Get Excited!!!
Laughing Bird replied to gully90's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I drink both Unjury shakes and Bariatric Advantage shakes. I have also bought some things from the BariatricPal store that will arrive tomorrow! I'm excited! I was sleeved on June 4 and I use Sugar Free Torani syrup and a vanilla protein shake in the morning for creamer in my coffee. It sets me up with 30 grams of protein right away. Its a good and yummy way to start the day. -
Yea my insurance excludes it too, so Iβm trying to do my homework and get the best deal. The kicker is, I am a physician assistant who works for a Bariatric physician (non surgical) and have been on a vlcd for 5 years with little success. So all I really need is the procedure... IIRC, Viactiv is based upon calcium carbonate, which is not as well absorbed as the preferred calcium citrate. Citracal used to have a citrate chew but dropped the product, though I think it got picked up by one of the bariatric vitamin companies (possibly Bariatric Advantage) I think that they also make a chewable tablet as well - I bought too big of a bucket of them and was using them long after I could use the regular horse pill calcium tablet. Some vitamin makers (Celebrate is one, IIRC) produce a petite calcium citrate tablet that's half the dose and size of a normal tablet that works well for many.

So I have UHC. I am currently waiting for my βplan info to be downloadedβ so a case manager can call me regarding my requirements. Iβve hear Uhc requires the 3-6 month diet and exercise plan. Iβm currently enrolled in the real appeal program through United Healthcare. They pay for it weekly after I Check into the group meetings. My question is..would that program count as the requirement?? Hope so....

Hi, Iβm taking the bariatric multivitamin with iron (Iβll try to attach a pic). The first time I broke it open and dumped a little bit in my mouth with some water bc I wasnβt sure my stomach could handle the big pill or break down the capsule. I instantly vomited (first time since my surgery 4 weeks ago). Then today I took the whole pill hoping it would just break down. It didnβt hurt or get stuck, felt fine digestive wise, but within five minutes my mouth started watering and I vomited again. Ughhhh is there a chewable that has the same thing thisnone has? I donβt wanna take more than one pill a day so thatβs why I bought this one. Thanks for any advice, I really appreciate it!

When you can swallow....these are the ones that I take. Just one pill a day. Then I take 3 calcium chews with breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I love these one-a-day's and they are fairly cheap for Bariatric vitamins. You can order them on Amazon for $45.99 for a 90 day supply.

I get a LOT of recipes from Pinterest. Type in the phase # or name ie:mushy or pureed or even bariatric diet and it will pull up plenty. Just be careful I always seem to fall down wormholes when I visit that site.

Considering a lap band - scared after reading this forum!
Viviparker replied to Elrix's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I had a similar experience. The band had embedded and the surgeon had difficulty removing it. He said there was so much scar tissue and adhesions he was afraid of a perforation. I have big scars on my abdomen from this and the surgeon used clips as he said there was a high risk of infection which luckily didnβt happen. If you are considering bariatric surgery the Sleeve or Bypass is better and probably safer. Good luck anyway. -

SEPTEMBER 2018 SURGERIES AND SUCCESS
Frustr8 replied to Frustr8's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
A very intriguing diet plan, I don't believe I have ever seen this one with all the ones quoted on Bariatric Pal. Each surgeon seems to choose a different vehicle, and travel a different road to Shangri La but we all arrive there in our own good time. ππΈπ -
You're paying her to provide supervised nutrition counseling not to endorse your decision to have bariatric surgery. I'm not sure why it matters whether she's for or against it.

You can get powdered vitamins at gettespo.com You just mix with 1.5 oz of water (if they deliver internationally). They make bariatric formulas. -
I need some advice about arthritis
Lisa K. replied to brians34's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It's interesting that this question came up today because I was just surfing and saw information about this topic on the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery website. The information on that site says that RNY is more susceptible to marginal ulcers and that is why it is more common for surgeons to instruct patients to avoid NSAIDs in bypass patients. My surgeon told me I might be able to go back on my meloxicam at some point after I heal from my sleeve but he would rather I wait until absolutely necessary. For now, I'm feeling great without it. -
I need some advice about arthritis
RickM replied to brians34's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I would want to coordinate between all three - including your bariatric surgeon to get his input. The rheumetologist may know of some other therapies that may help, but the bariatric guy will have the most experience regarding your stomach. Brief rundown on the history of NSAIDs and bariatrics: NSAIDs are a big NO-NO for the RNY as that procedure is predisposed to marginal ulcers and doesn't need any help from any other stomach irritants. Sleeve based procedures are more tolerant than the RNY but still probably somewhat more sensitive than the general population. Surgeons' opinions on this vary widely depending upon their experiences - many are very gunshy about NSAIDs given their experience with the bypass and relatively lesser experience (typically) with the sleeve, so they tend to lump all procedures together with a general "no" recommendation until they get more feedback on the sleeve. Some surgeons who were early adopters of the sleeve (primarily from the DS camp) are much more liberal in their allowance for NSAID use (our doc recommends them as soon post-op as narcotic pain relievers are no longer appropriate; others are somewhere in between.) Most docs are amenable to their use in limited cases, particularly with the sleeve, though I have seen some bypass docs suggest them in some specific cases, so you should get him in the loop on this. From what I have seen, as a none-MD, occasional use is usually OK, but for consistent use as in arthritis or other chronic orthopedic cases, something else is probably preferred. Even for non-WLS peeps, these are serious drugs (even if they are available OTC) and consistent use should be monitored by a physician. -
Where are all the 50 something bypass patients?
Frustr8 replied to choosehope's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Well@dutchamy I hadn't gotten back to you and I do apologize. Yes I did get my,date on 7/17/2018 and not as soon as I had hoped for, with vacations etc. it is September 5th At 7 AM. My Bariatric Hospital gives you a choice of 2, 3, or 4 weeks on their plan.I decided to start the beginning of August and give myself the best boost possible, at 72 this is going to be my one and only foray into Bariatrics. -
Hi all, I have been working with a dietician for 4 months and she is very against any sort of bariatric surgery. I know for the United Health Care and Optum programs, you have to have 6 months of a supervised diet prior to surgery and I am so afraid she is against this. Does anyone know if I would be able to see another dietician through the Bariatric Center of Excellence for my last two months? Would that still count? It would be consecutive months but just with another provider.

Im actually going to get a mani and pedi here soon in a couple of days too! Washing all my clothes doing things that I know I won't be able to when im out of surgery. Eyebrows are also this week haha thats so funny that we are doing pretty much the same things! Probably going to spend some of my "points" here on the BA store to get phase 3 foods that keep well in the pantry. Also I found this nut butter at Costco I had a spoonful the other day its AMAZING! Its called Nuttzo, its so good!!! Also they give to charity which Im pretty big on. But the nut butter itself is def bariatric friendly, paleo and vegan friendly, organic, peanut and gluten free! YAY! https://www.nuttzo.com/product/12oz-organic-paleo-power-fuel-crunchy/
