Hitting Rock Bottom...
carrielee replied to carrielee's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
That is true. I look at my friends that are healthy weights and what they’re able to do with their lives and it makes me sad, but motivated. My blood pressure yesterday was at stroke level again, and I’m on multiple hypertensives. I ended up back in the ER with heart attack type symptoms and ended up diagnosed with multiple PEs. At the ER, my BP was 178/108 and my heart rate was 137. I’m literally killing my self with this life. -
Weirdest None-Scale-Victory - I'll go first
Orinskye replied to chiquitatummy's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I got all those comments today and my dad pulled me aside and told me that “enough is enough and I need to STOP losing weight because now (according to him) I look skeletal and unhealthy” . Attaching a pic because I am not “skeletal” 🙄 -
Slow Losers Club…..officially *sigh*
Tripletsmom1971 replied to TheWeightisOvr's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I think we ALL go thru this period. I felt like a failure too, wondering if I did the "right" thing (surgery). I had lost 60 pounds BEFORE surgery, "so why couldn't I do that ALL on my own?" I'm sure my stats were "low" too at that time frame for me. Just keep on! I am BORING when it comes to food. I could "take it OR leave it". The food smells soooo good. THAT didn't change. My MIND is now "changed", HOPEFULLY forever. It takes a WHILE, mentally, NOT just the weight loss. You are "retraining your brain" to "be aware" of WHAT you are consuming. If you just focus on the GOOD changes, the non scale victories, (there are WAY too many to count!), it will ALL work out. whether it's a year, 18 months or LONGER. As long as that the scale is going DOWN (SLOWLY EVEN), that means you are doing this ALL PERFECTLY!! And DON'T forget this VERY important! YOU are a WINNER!! -

I am feeling well! My liver function tests are still way too high, AST ALT are like 380 and 160. I had a MRI of my liver to check for blockages and they didn’t find any. So the plan is to wait and hope they go down. surgeon said that just weight loss wouldn’t make it go this high so we don’t know what caused it.

Considering this procedure
KathleenCowan replied to carrielee's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
Hi Carrielee, Seeing a bariatric surgeon and getting into a pre-surgical program has been life-changing for me. I am scheduled for a SADI-DS procedure on May 5. I have high BP requiring multiple medications, am nearly a diabetic, and am tired of yo-yo dieting. I also don't want dumping syndrome, which can happen after the traditional gastric bypass. Meanwhile, after seeing the dietician and therapist and getting on a plan, I have lost 48 pounds so far during my preop. My starting weight was 330 lb, now 281.5 lb. My pants size has gone from a 28W to a 22W. My advice is to find a bariatric surgeon you trust. Work with the dietician and therapist. You will lose weight. The surgery becomes another tool to make it more effective. Good Luck! -
Awful smelling stool and gas

⬆️ THIS! Congratulations on how great you are doing! And until your family starts farting and pooping rainbows, stars, rose petals and pink marshmallows, I’d tell them to take a hike! Seriously! Wear a mask and clean your toilet to within an inch of its life…scrub everywhere. Once it’s clean and you are taking preventive measures to ameliorate odors, enjoy the success you are having with your health and weight. -

Welcome to the group. Yea we all reach that point. I reached that point last year too. I am 34 years old. If i may ask. what is your weight and height? You can add that information on your sidebar in your profile under surgery section. -
Thanks. excited to get it over with lol. and i got your PM i will just answer here. Ive been overweight most of my adult life. I am 34 years old. I remember being 18-19 years old and a girl i dated at the time we weighed ourselves and i weighed about 200lb and i am 5'4. From then on my weight started to go up and up once i was out of high school. In high school i was very active being in the Navy Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (NJROTC) always exercising, marching and such. Once i got out of high school i was no longer active working full time typically in a office environment always eating fast food for breakfast, lunch and dinner. By around 2016 i was around 270 and last year i reached 300lb and April 4th when i started my liquid diet i was 317.

I think I’ve hit my rock bottom with my weight and the life I’m living...at 31, I’m slowly killing my self with food and that’s shaken me. My recent ER visits with cardiac / stroke concerns have really shaken me. They’ve been wake up calls, honestly. Just last night I was back in the ER with a diagnosis of a pulmonary embolism so now I’m on blood thinners on top of my already lengthy medication regime for all of my illnesses. I can barely walk without getting totally winded, constantly in pain, labs getting worse and worse...it’s time for change.

Alcohol 3 weeks post sleeve op.
shriner37 replied to Donna zariya's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I think it really is more a question of whether your stomach is healed enough to tolerate alcohol. My surgeon advised to wait two months before consuming alcohol as their belief is that the stomach should be completely healed first. That being said, I did start drinking again a few months after my sleeve, which I believe was one of the reasons I never reached my weight loss goal. I was in a similar situation to yours in that alcohol was a part of my social scene at the time. Along with drinking came poor nutrition decisions and between the two I stopped losing weight 30 pounds short of my goal. I'm two months post revision to bypass and haven't started consuming alcohol again yet. I'm determined to get to my weight loss goal this time (only have about 25 lbs to go) and have now adapted my social scene enough so that alcohol isn't such a big part of it. -
lapband removed hoping to have bypass
Tomo replied to cindyn's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I went from the lapband to VSG to RNY. Revisions were mandatory due to serious side effects from the previous WLS. I wish I went straight to RNY but hindsight is 20/20, I guess. I was in the minority that got severe gerd from the VSG. I had my revision to RNY at 60+ years old, and it has been a great experience, both in feeling better physically and weight loss. -
What surgeon at West LA Kaiser do you recommend?
Acptfw replied to justmeana's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had Dr. Mun at the South Bay Kaiser location. I know some doctors outside of Kaiser don’t require weight loss, but I’m pretty sure all doctors within Kaiser require it. They want to make sure you’re serious, and they want your liver to shrink down enough to do the surgery. I was not thrilled about doing the weight loss before the surgery, but share your concerns with your care team. They are there to help. The Options class does everything online, but they keep your weight confidential. They will not disclose your weight to other members in the class. I think I only had to submit my starting weight, then progress weigh-in on week 5, then final weight on week 10. Hope this helps! Doing this with Kaiser is a journey. There are a lot of hoops to jump through, but I’m really grateful that they made me do these things before the surgery. -
Revision after only a year of Gastric Sleeve
Tomo replied to nidvia's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Mine took a few years to develop after the sleeve. Even then, I kept switching different PPIs, H2 blockers for a few years after that. I recently had the revision to RNY this past August. I'm sorry that I waited so long to have the revision. The revision helped me a lot. Better sleep due to no severe gerd keeping me up, physically it feels the same as the sleeve but no gerd, and I have far better weight control. I'm sorry you are having to go through this. Most don't get this side effect of the sleeve but unfortunately we both did.
