I think I’ve seen mention of “last suppers” and such on here but I’m wondering if this is normal or just me? My surgery is May 24 and for the last month since I’ve found out my surgery date I have pretty much ate terrible! Since Dec. I’ve gained 8 pounds back but I know exactly why. I just feel somewhat nervous and anxious and…etc. my bad habits that were better are now worse. Is this something that happens before surgery? Am I just broken and need to forget about it? I had done so well but now I’m so worried. Any advice?

I am curious if anyone had a full thyroidectomy prior to weight loss surgery? I had my thyroid removed in 2018 and it is near impossible to lose even a pound. I've tried low carb and exercising regularly but I only lost 2 lbs in 4 months. I am so worried that after my surgery which is tomorrow morning, that I won't lose anything. Please let me know if you have success or not with the sleeve.

Patulous Eustachian Tube Dysfunction after Surgery
Katja replied to Katja's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I looked it up in various places besides what the doc said... this is due to losing large amounts of weight. -
The amount of requirements and perquisite's for insurance to cover can be C R A Z Y no matter what state or insurance company you have. I live and work in IL and I have Healthlink PPO. My insurance had no real perquisites per se other than I had to go to 2 seminars for the program. Now I cannot speak for everyone's journey but my own and this is what I came across. Although my insurance had no real requirements to be met, the Dr I chose sure did!! I started my first workshop on Oct 28, 21. Since I already knew my health insurance had little to know requirements I had it set in my head that the week after Christmas Id be scheduled for surgery WRONG lol. I met a nurse practitioner at my Drs office that was like hitting a brick wall LOL. She is awesome dont get me wrong but she set me straight real quick. Depending on the Dr there are loads of tests and other Drs you have to be cleared by first. I mistakenly thought it was my insurance that required alot of this and I couldnt understand why by Feb I still had not been cleared for surgery. This nurse politely informed me that my insurance is not the one that determines the surgery clearance but the DR, they are however the source of payment so a major point to but in my program I had to show I had no weight gain in 6 months/ April was my 6th month since the start. Once I weighed in and still had no weight gain they then sent for insurance approval and like Future Sleeve Diva above, I had approval very quickly and surgery was scheduled within days of that. It can be a long process for some but it will happen in due time. It can be frustrating to have to wait but it will come and when it does then you may start asking yourself if your ready for it lol. PS....I have not had any out of pocket yet except the initial consultation with the Dr ($35) I believe I had 1 other office visit charge of $35 but so far thats all

Patulous Eustachian Tube Dysfunction after Surgery
Katja posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hi! Has anyone been diagnosed with Patulous Eustachian Tube Dysfunction due to losing the large amount we lose after surgery? I have it and could not believe losing this weight would cause something like this! The ENT I see is terrific, but I could NOT believe he said I could gain some weight to lessen the symptoms! I'm not even at 25 BMI yet after my revision to Bypass last year! Anyone? What have you experience with this and what did you do to lessen the symptoms? Has anyone had it disappear after the weight was stabilized after a while? Thanks for answering! -
Hello, I had Biliopancreatic Diversion surgery back in June of 1983 - in fact I was #86 to have that surgery by my doctor. Since then I have kept the weight off, but have had continual digestion and intestinal issues. I cannot find any doctor (medical or naturopathic) that can honestly address my issues and I am looking for other patients that I might be able to discuss their life after surgery and how they found good competent medical care. I would like to find others that have led a long term "after weight loss surgery" life.

Hi, all new here. I was sent by my PCP to have a revision to my RNY. The surgeon suggests Candy Cane Revision and I asked will that help me lose weight? This jackass tells me some but stop eating so much! My 14 yr old said she wants what she is supposed to and no junk foods. He looked me dead in my face and said I doubt that. I am 268 lbs and 5'2. My Doctor along with the original Surgeon who retired and sent me to him are really PO'd about this. Should I ask for a second opinion or seek help elsewhere. I have no gastric issues this is what they are seeing due to tests. Thank You

So tired of this and fed up. I’m back at the ER with chest pain, nausea, etc and severe headache. My blood pressure is sky high again...169/118. I’m on multiple hyper tensives and keep having these hypertensive crisis. I know it’s my body screaming for help. I just hope I haven’t delayed or put off working toward WLS for too long. I’ve considered it for over a year and in that year I’ve gained nearly 50 pounds. It’s time for change and it’s time for change now...I’m so scared of dying early like my mom.

Feeling depressed/hopeless on liquid diet
Hop_Scotch replied to Vivis's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sorry to hear you are going through this. If you've lost a bit of weight since you've started the pre-op diet, the emotions may be related to a hormone imbalance...its something some people feel post op too. It may also be something else. Have you contact a medical doctor yet? 300cals is fairly low for a pre-op diet, most achieve at least 800cals. What is your pre-op diet protocol and are you meeting all the guidelines for it? Does it include low starch veg or fruit? Is there an opportunity to swap out one of the shakes to fish or a piece of lean chicken (not the day before surgery though)? -
Feeling depressed/hopeless on liquid diet
Vivis posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi. I need a safe place to post my feelings and I thought of posting here. I hope I can be as raw as I need to be without getting criticized or judged. I'm on day 6 of the all liquid diet. I'm not doing well emotionally of physically. My mood prior to the all liquid diet was me always happy, active, healthy and on top of my game in all senses. Prior to the all liquid diet, I was working out and eating right and losing weight to the point that the surgeon's team told me I could stop eating right and stop working out because I had showed them I'm fully capable of following the plan and succeeding on it. I didn't listen to them telling me to stop because I was feeling great on my new routine and seeing results, so why would I stop eating right and working out? Now that I'm on the all liquid diet, I get sudden bursts of extreme anger, extreme sadness and I feel depressed. I feel like I'm hurting myself so much. I've had six days of extreme diarrhea. I feel sick. I don't think this all liquid diet is normal or healthy. It's actually making me feel like this is not worth it. And, again -- that is not like my normal self. My normal self is the complete opposite of how I feel and sound right now. I feel like this all liquid diet, because of how harshly and badly my body is reacting to it and my mood, it's making me not even want to try to drink anything, because we aren't eating anything to begin with. This is complete and utter torture. I don't feel like helping myself, and again that is NOT my normal self. I feel so sad and angry and I just want to throw and break things and cry nonstop. This isn't me though. I'm so displeased with this right now. I absolutely hate this and right now -- to be honest, I hate anything and everything. I'm so triggered. I feel like calling out of work tomorrow and taking a day to just be more miserable and see if I can somehow bring myself back up. But I feel so broken, physically and emotionally. I called a 24/7 nurse hotline and they urged me to go see a medical doctor ASAP. I'm probably getting 300ish calories in a day. I feel like someone pushed me, and I don't even want to pick myself back up. Realistically, I know some patients are put on a full liquid diet for 2-3 weeks. I know others are put on an all liquid diet just ONE DAY prior to their surgery. I know others are allowed one solid meal a day. My head is fighting the facts with reasons. I've followed the diet to a T 100%. But I absolutely hate everything right now. And no, it's not a carb or sugar crash. I wasn't eating carbs or sugars prior to the all liquid diet. I've been extremely healthy for the past 2 months...I'm just shocked at how differently, in a very bad way, I feel right now. I just feel...sick.- 37 replies

Weirdest None-Scale-Victory - I'll go first
Tina 2.0 replied to chiquitatummy's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
You look amazing! It will take time for folks around you to adjust to the New Normal. Your body is wise and will know where you need to plateau. The hard work is continuing to listen to that wisdom and stay at a healthy weight. Keep up the great work and keep smiling! Thanks for sharing the experience and the pic. -
Well done on your weight loss! My surgeon said energy levels may be low until the 2 year mark. Try reducing your carbohydrates and going through the difficult process of entering ketosis as an experiment to see whether getting your energy from ketones is an improvement for you. Where is your pain? If you have joint pain in areas without much muscle covering, topical ibuprofen is excellent. You shouldn't be taking oral ibuprofen.

Hi, my name is Carrielee and I am new and just beginning my journey. I am 31 years old and have been overweight/obese since I was a young child. Today I am at my all time heaviest with a BMI of 54. I am 31, 5 feet tall and 278.45 pounds. I have many co morbidities...hypertension (resistant to treatment), type II diabetes, Angina/chest pain, I’ve had a TIA, I have sleep apnea, high cholesterol, PCOS, liver disease, just diagnosed yesterday with multiple PE’s...I’m slowly killing myself and I’m done. I’m on constant pain, struggle with basic ADLs due to my weight. Constantly short of breath. Yesterday when checking into the ER with heart attack like symptoms, despite multiple anti hypertensives and beta blockers, my BP was stroke level (178/108, with a heart rate of 137). My mom died at 48 of a heart attack with similar conditions and was morbidly obese as well...doing this for her to not have the same fate. I have my initial consult with the WLS surgeon on the 25th...

First, congratulations on your weight loss. Whoo hoo! I too struggle with energy. A lot I think is because of my low blood pressure, lowish heart rate & random hypoglycaemic episodes. I seem to have bursts of energy & then it’s like ok have to stop now. But these aren’t really new experiences. I always had a tendency to drops in blood pressure & hypoglycaemia & they always happened more frequently when I was thinner & I’m slimmer than I’ve ever been now. Have you spoken with your surgeon about what you’re experiencing? Where is the pain - joints, abdomen, back, …? NSAIDS, like ibuprofen, should be avoided. They’re too harsh on our much smaller stomachs & will cause irritation to your tummy & even stomach ulcers so if your pain is abdominal the daily ibuprofen could be the cause. My surgeon does allow me to have a single capsule very rarely. I go for months without taking one. I’ve only about 5 single capsules in almost 3 years & 2 were recently when my oozing discs decided to play up - so painful & physically limiting.
