    eczema healing 5 days out

That is so great that your eczema has gotten so much better. I too suffer from severe eczema and completely understand the pain and embarrassment. My eczema was actually getting better during my first few weeks post-op but just last week when I was moved over to a regular modified diet all hell broke loose! I can't even sleep and Benadryl or topical steroids aren't helping I asked my dr about a wheat or gluten sensitivity and they kind of look at me like I have 10 heads. That was really the only difference between now and then. My allergist hasn't found and food allergies either. It's very frustrating! I've decided to kind of test this myself and cut all gluten out of my diet and see if there is any improvement.

    Best support bra?

What size are you currently? When I lost my first bit of weight and needed new bras I found the Soma line at Chico's and LOVED what these bras did for me. I got them from the outlet and they were on sale for $10 each. They are now too big and I really wanted to order more, but refuse to pay the full price...might have to mosey over to the outlets again. Two weeks ago I went to Khols and found a Maidenform bra that gives a little push-up and it's okay. My ladies look good and lifted, it's pretty comfortable, but the straps don't always stay up (and they are on the furthest setting). I tried on so many types and sizes and this was the best I could find there. I also tried Macys and had a lady fit me and recommend a good bra, but it was nothing like the great experiences I've had at Nordstroms (with knowledgeable sales people)...I didn't feel like walking down to that end though. Good luck and if you find one you like please share!

    Driving In The Fast Lane

I have a sister that is 7 years older than me. I learned how to drive in 2003. She learned in 1997. We were on the interstate returning from my mom's house after Thanksgiving. She actually got upset and pulled over to let me drive after I explained to her about the passing lane. It's soooo embarrassing to see 10 cars behind you in the passing lane.
  4. Kykhinkle I'm glad to hear your feeling better it certainly gives me hope that relief is around the corner. My dr called in norco pill form which is giving me more relief. I only got down 2 oz of my protein shake some broth and water. The gas has been traveling to my neck back and shoulder. I've been using a heating pad that seems to be helping. I haven't weighed myself yet because if I've gained any weight I think I'll start crying. when I went got my pre op testing at the end of august I weighed 240 yesterday I weighed 221 so I've lost 19 lbs so far. I'm very pleased with that considering I have an under active thyroid that slows my weight loss a lot.

    Is anybody hungry???

I was banded 10/26. The first 8 or 9 days were wonderful...no hunger but then around the 10th day my hunger returned with a vengence. I can't have a fill for 4 weeks. My Christmas present will be my fill. Meanwhile, I am going to enjoy Thanksgiving.

    Is anybody hungry???

I work with food, so the smell makes me hungry. I'm finding it harder and harder to resist temptation, but I know I have to or all my HARD work will go to pot! I wasn't hungry for a few days post surgery, then at about 10 days bam! It hit! Now I'm counting down to my fill Dec 10th!

    I'm hungry!

Hmmmm, I don't know. Do you now what size bougie your surgeon used? I know everyone is different but I feel restriction and I really don't feel hunger, or empty belly feeling. I just ate a little more last week because I know that there were a few days when my workout was really loaded and I ate a little more. I don't believe in starvation per se, I think if that were true, all of us with a sleeve would be in starvation mode, but I do think our bodies freak out and love holding on to reserves for as long as they possibly can....eventually our bodies will wake up and realize we aren't going to war or a 10 year drought, etc.... Have you talked to your Nut? Are you logging your calories? I log them on livestrong.com/myplate and have found that there were days when I thought I had pigged out, and I had only eaten 600 calories, and days when I thought I was doing "good" and was at 900 cal. It may be worth a chat with your nutritionist.

    New Orleans

I went to dr Kelly but have read a lot of good about dr Alvarez too. I didn't feel unsafe, my 19 yo son went with me and I'm glad I did it. No regrets. I'm losing slower than average due to health history, but IM LOSING! 250 day if surgery 213 now. 265 before preop diet. It has its hard times, but if you are emotionally ready, it's sooo worth it!
  9. Just a gentle reminder to my fellow sleevers to always stay hydrated! Spring is here summer is around the corner so water is essential. I had my sleeve in January 24 2012 so I'm over a year out. Even now im still trying get my 64 minimum! I started at 240 highest and currently I weigh 165- my goal is 140 so 25 lbs away from there! I check the scale every other week because now I dont care about my weight I care about how I feel. By now I can eat anything 6 to 8 oz max if its protein then 6 max. Carbs I can stuff more lol. I ate carby foods and gained 10 pounds and I acknowledge every savory bite. Breaks over!! I'm going back to protein shakes and sticking with my vitamins and I know I'll hit my goal. What I'm focusing on is yoga, cardio and strength training. I love working out! Its an amazing and beautiful experience to know that you can do something and not feel tired in pain. At 24 years old feeling that happiness brought tears to my eyes. I LOVE my body. My scars my tiger marks are a part of me. I'm okay with it. I eat as many fruits and veggies as I want because I can't eat that much anyways. The sleeve works there is no excuse! I can share one slice of pizza with my mom and feel good when before I ate the whole box. Seriously. I share food with my family when before food was something I couldn't even control. Working out is my high. I just need to remember to drink water! Hope this motivated and helpes some good luck and well wishes to all!
  10. WoW! I'm 35 and haven't had my period in 10 years (since I had cancer). It would be so cool if it cam back n I could have another baby

My doctor REFUSED to give me a fill!

I am so glad I read this thread. I have been going back and forth with my anxiety. First I was anxious because I have no restriction and I can pretty much eat anything, but when I do and I get that old familiar stuffed feeling, I feel terrible about myself and life in general and I can't wait for the fullness to go away. I feel hungry often, this scared me to death at first, now I actually really like it. I realized that I have been overweight and over eating all my life, so before getting banded it has probably been more than 15 years since I actually felt a hunger pain in my body. Sure I would say I was hungry, just as an excuse to eat, but I really couldn't even recognize what hunger was once I got banded and started feeling it again. I am long over due for my first fill, and I desperately want one now becasue I don't want the knowledge lurking in the back of my mind that I can actually eat whatever I want, PLEASE TAKE THAT ABILITY AWAY FROM ME, but I actually like being hungry, to me it kind of signals I didn't over eat yet. So far, since being banded I have gotten all the way up to 29 lbs lost, but, with no restriction, one bad weekend put back on almost 10 lbs. I have been trying to set mini goals for myself, but they are so hard to achieve. I figure if they were easy, then I wouldn't have needed the band in the first place. Anyway, I have an appointment for a possible first fill on 10/14/08 and I am nervous and anxious, but really looking forward to knowing what the restriction actually feels like, I am longing to know what not having the ability to over eat (because I have the desire) feels like!!! Stuck for 10+ hours?

I've had my 3rd fill, did fine for about 4 days. last night I ate at a friends house and the soup had shredded chicken in it. I did my best to avoid it, but almost twelve hours later I still feel stuck. No vomit, no PB. Just HURTS! How long should I wait before I call the doctors office? Its Sunday right now, so I'd be calling the on call doc. What else could this possibly be?
  13. Im about 3 pounds from my goal but that was my personal goal, my surgeons goal was another 12 pounds past that. That would put me at 130 and that might be too skinny for me. Once I get to goal Ill be cruising the forum posts on how to maintain if my body doesnt stop losing on its own. Basically Ill be upping my calories with good fats (nuts, avocado, etc. and lean proteins). Congrats on being newly sleeved. Its so exciting and the excitement still hasnt warn off for me 10 months out. I still have to double take sometimes when I look in the mirror. I hope your healing goes well. My best advice for someone early out is to sip sip sip. I cant tell you the importance of staying hydrated. Dehydration is a nasty little monster. If you have troubles with cold liquids, try warm decaf tea. That did the trick for me. To this day I prefer a warm beverage to a cold one for sure.

    Liquid diet

Day 10 for me of my 2wks liquid diet, not including the day before surgery of just clear liquids. I really haven't had much hunger, but I've put a lot of effort into making my shakes interesting. I'll add fruit, no sugar flavor syrups, flavor extracts, etc and try different recipes. For breakfast today, I'm having a pumpkin pie flavored protein shake (pumpkin puree, pumpkin pie spice, cinnamon, vanilla extract, little bit of skim milk and water, and protein powder). Throw it all in the blender for a min with about a cup of ice and voila - a nice frothy (and big) protein shake that takes me awhile to drink. Your body will get used to it!
  16. Hey Jill, I think that you are allready doing a fantastic job as you are aware of what you need to do. It isnt for anyone on this site to put people down as we all have needed help in one way or another and everyones needs are different. Having this Lap Banding done has been a mond blowing learning lesson as i thought i was eating quite healthy, but now am realising that i thought i was doing all the right things. I have lost about 15 kg's so far and was Banded on 12/02/10. My thoughts at the time were that i will loose it all in 6 months and allthough this sounds nice, i now dont want this. It took me years to put on all of this weight and it can take me 2 or more years to loose it and keep it off if at the end i am going to have a healthy mind and body. I wish you good luck Jill and everyone else on this forum and hope that we can all be supportive of each other instead of putting each other down. Good Luck :-)
  17. Hey everyone, I have a quick question. ...what were your doctors orders as far as diet after surgery? I had my surgery on 6/13, was put on clear liquids from day 1-10, soft foods such as yogurt, pudding and cream of soups day 10-20, then mashed up baby like food from day 20-30.

    Yes!

When dealing with the 'Last Supper Syndrome' keep in mind that any weight you gain before has to come off after. It could be discouraging to have to lose 10+ pounds post-op while you regain lost ground. Also, I found that those last meals weren't as satisfying as I expected them to be. I did indulge on old favorites once or twice a week (I didn't 'gorge' myself) but balanced it out by eating better at my other meals. It helped keep things in check while savoring goodies I might not have for a long time, if ever. The mindset for losing really must start pre-op. So indulge, without getting out of control. In the long run it's worth it to deprive yourself of foods that are not good for you. As someone has said 'Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels'. I'm finding that it's a true statement. :-)

    Protein Question

My Dr. said that I need at least 50 grams of protein a day, but he'd be happiest with 60. So that is my daily protein goal One week when I had the flu, I didn't get more than maybe 10 grams of protein a day for about 5 days, I lost a lot of hair about 2 weeks later.

    Protein shopping

I've tried Bariatric Advantage, BSN, Un Jury and Syntrax nectar. The Syntrax IMO is the BEST! If you call them and ask for a sampler they will send you a single serving of all their flavors for $9.99 with shipping. It's a total of 10 or 11 flavors. The number is 1-866-333-7403
  21. Huge HUGS! First of all. Second of all let me tell you a story. I decided to go in for surgery and really thought hard and long about it. I explored other options and this was the best choice for me. The closer I got the more I got a little concerned with the what ifs.... However a wise person once told me, "if we lived our lives in fear of the what ifs, we would never have children, we would never get married or even be in relationships because what if...." So I told myself to calm my fears. I was good up until they rolled me into the "holding tank". They had given me benadryl because I had a rash and I started to feel really loopy. I totally freaked out, as they entered the operating room I told them I changed my mind. The anesthiasologist said, "you have to be committed to the process and I said, "I am but I am not committed to going under Anesthiasa?" "You have to promise me this is what you want," he says and I say to him, "You need to promise me you will wake me up." With that I drifted off, relaxed and okay with the fact that I made it through. I got out of surgery at 10:30 and didn't get pain meds until 8:30pm that evening, then every six hours after that. I got up and walked a lot. Honestly, the surgery and recovery has been pretty easy, what has been the most difficult is the mind. I am on liquids and trying to not take a bite of food here and there. It is a challenge to get throught he post op diet, but once through that emotional hurdle, it gets easier. This is an emotional ride, hang on and know that you are doing what is best for you and the future you. You have to be committed to change, lots of change, physical, emotional but in the end it is wonderful.

    Sleeved October 25

I was done on 10/25 and I still have to take Prevacid and gas x daily. So it not the hunger you feeling. We are still in the swelling phase where we have a lot of gas. The liquids is a struggle for me but I sign up for this challenge and with god help I will be successful. I was nervous in the beginning and hopefully I will be ready for work Tuesday, if not I I'll take another week off. Trying not to be lazy around the house I have no energy. But I wish everyone well while we start this new journey.

    Upcoming surgery

Everyone is different and there are so many physiological changes that there is no guaranteed or average weight loss amount. Some of the things that can effect it is starting weight, gender, age, height, even ethnicity. I personally lost 35 pounds during the first 12 weeks. As for recipes there are a lot of great sites online that offer recipes for different stages of the diet. Even pintrest has boards with recipes. Just make sure you stick with your plan from your surgeon and follow the stages. As for mashed potatoes they are carbs but your intake is so little in the early stages that it's not going to make a drastic difference. I would add protein powder to everything I ate. Mashed potatoes, cream of wheat and refried beans were all allowed on my pureed diet and something I ate. I didn't start solids until 10 weeks on my plan. I was allowed to go back low impact cardio at 4 weeks and was released for regular exercise around 8-10 weeks I believe. I currently try and hit the gym 3 days a week but some weeks I'm lucky to get there at all. Just stay as active as you can and find little ways to get your steps in especially early out like parking as far away from the door in a parking lot as possible and when I'm shopping I make sure I walk down every aisle even if I don't need anything in that aisle. I also will park at the opposite end of the mall when I need to shop there. In the gym I do swimming, treadmill and elliptical mostly but next year I'm going to start dancing again.

    1 Month Out

I lost 17 pounds my first month. I stalled at week three and didn't lose again until my second month started. I lost 11 pounds my second month, and I lost 10 pounds my third month. I now know that I stall for a total of about ten days per month, thanks to my cycle. I'm a slower loser, but that still averages out to more than three pounds a week. I've never lost 3 pounds a week before. Yes, it's frustrating. Yep, we want to compare ourselves to everyone else. Women that were sleeved the same month as me, with similar stats, are already more than halfway to goal. But you know what? I am losing. I'm losing faster than I've ever lost weight before. And even though I feel like the slowest loser in the world I can reach my goal in less than nine months from my surgery date. That's just four to five more months. Once I put it in perspective, there's nothing to be upset about. It used to take me four months of near starving misery to drop 30 pounds before. In comparison, this is almost effortless. Keep up the good work, you're doing just fine. ~Cheri
