    Before and After Pics

I am currently 2 Months Post-Op (had surgery on 5/13/19) this is my current look! 😊

    Introduction

Hi Kristie! I identify with everything you’ve said. I too am having my surgery 8/12/19. I just got home from meeting with my nutritionist one on one. I called the meeting with her because , although I’m thrilled & excited, I was also getting overwhelmed with everything. She completely calmed my fears. Is anyone on your team available to meet with you one on one? I’m figuring I’m going to utilize as much support as I need in order to feel comfortable. Let’s stay in touch since we’re both in the timeline process together.. :-)

    💜AUGUST 2019 CHALLENGE💜

Hello August. Last night was a new moon which means new beginnings. My goal is to drop 6 lbs. to 130 lbs. I gained a little over 10 pounds following plastics and think this is totally doable as also swelling will decrease. I am 5’5” and weigh 136.4 as of this morn. I was sleeved in 2015 and lost about 105. Goal is-125 lbs. I was maintaining until June PS. Fun fact: I held a job as a shadow dancer in a nightclub.

    Diarrhea and work

Do you know what is causing this? Is this normal for DS peeps? I never researched it to find out. But it sounds horrifying. I know what mine was like healing from the gut surgery and it was bad enough at 10-12 times per day. So can't even imagine how bad it would be at 2x per hour!!!
  5. The first few days after surgery were relatively easy. It was when all the meds wore off (they gave me some sort of 3 or 4 day lasting 'pain block' using a medicine that starts with an 'E' (Experal?). I am losing weight but my body isn't caring for the even closer to starvation level calories well. I am getting intense hunger headaches. The hunger is so bad I get that..well, it used to be a normal nauseated feeling you'd get when you truly hadn't eaten and your stomach was so hungry. I had hunger relief for just a few days and man do i miss them. I'm still tracking at about 300 to 340 calories a day so that explains the weight loss but my body is refusing to gracefully accept it. I still have lower abdominal cramping/muscle spasms throughout the day. I FINALLY had my first..um..BM yesterday. It had been almost 10 days and my dr's office SEEMED to have a blase attitude about it. I finally took some dulcolax. I had already been taking stool softeners for several days but nothing was happening quickly. My constipation was SO BAD that I got extremely nauseated and my lower back was killing me. I couldn't sit in a chair for long as it hurt too much. I'm just trying to hang in there and survive this first week..well...actually first 2 weeks since as of today, it has been 1 week since surgery. Does anyone else's doctor have you not taking ANY vitamins at all in your first 2 weeks? I was surprised when mine said to suspend them. Sorry for whining..I knew this would be hard, that is no surprise. What is surprising to ME, is how hard it is to go through this and work 60+hrs at the same time. Also, I NEVER noticed food commercials nor was bothered by others eating in front of me during my LONG 30 day (cumulative pre-op diet phase)...I'm startled now by intense cravings when I wasn't even THINKING about xyz food until I saw a commercial for it! I feel like my brain is waging war with my body.

    weak

Good Morning everyone...... I have gotten so much wonderful information from you all so far... Now.... the next thing.... I had my sleeve on July 22, 2019 and everything is going great.... except I am soooooooo tired of this liquid diet. I know..... I am trying to be patient. I feel good, no pain, lost 24 lbs since I started the liquid diet. No naseua or omiting, getting in all my protein and almost up to the amount of water I should be taking in each day. BUT. ...... is anyone suffering from unbelieveable tiredness and I actually have almost no energy unless I sit down and rest between activities. I had to sit down to brush my teeth the other day. lol. I truly feel like loss of calories might be just running me down. I have my first visit back to the surgeon on August 7th and then I should be put on puree foods, so I am thinking that will help this weakness. Could the rapid weightloss cause the weak feeling. Let me know what you think.

    Where is everyone from??

Hi everyone! I live on Long Island NY. Having bypass 8/12/19. Would love to find a buddy on Long Island. I can’t find support groups .
  8. Awww! So sad to hear of your unfortunate fire down below!!! I'm thinking it sounds like a fat event--too much in your dinner meal. It hits me within 10-20 minutes as well and it's immediately demanding. Did you feel better immediately after the trip to the trone room? 😧
  9. I just got my surgery date of 10/15/19. I wish it was sooner but I know it will be here soon enough. I was a little nervous about RNY when my surgeon recommended it to me over VSG but I’m coming around to it now. For some reason the thought of a remnant stomach floating around in my body seems odd. I also don’t like that they can’t endo ever again in case something goes bad with it. My other fear is that an adhesion will mess up my intestines. I had an adhesion once from C sections that attached to my intestines and had to be cut. Anyone have adhesion issues or experiences? Despite my worries, I am quite excited by the wonderful results I see everyone achieving! Thanks everyone!
  10. Yesterday's Menu - July 31st 5'2" ♀️ 9m post-op 115.1 lbs (maintaining) It's after midnight, so I figure I can write this up now. Spoiler alert: the day ended with a big downer... 10:10 am: 2 cups black coffee (10 cals) 2:30 pm: *only ate 2/3 of this* salad + 2 oz grilled chicken + .75 oz duck breast + 1 oz feta cheese + 1oz carrots (227 cals) 4:40 pm: *ate the remaining 1/3 of my 2:30 meal* 6:30 pm: 1/4 cup low cal ice cream + 1/4 cup brownie w/ frosting (330 cals) 7:30 pm: *drinks and apps at a bar* 1oz beef jerky + buffalo cauliflower + blue cheese dip + 1/2 a vodka caesar (550 cals) Totals: 1117 cals, 53g Protein, 66g NET carbs, 79g fat 10:45 pm: suspicious tummy rumbling begins... TMI ALERT!! So the ride home from the bar was pretty stressful as 2 minutes after I got in the car, I suddenly needed to get to a washroom BADLY..something apparently didn't agree with me and I had some explosive poop as a result. Luckily I made it home before the explosion happened in my pants. I suspect the dumping was due to the blue cheese dip, but it could very well had been the cauliflower, it was especially greasy and I ate quite a bit of it. Or...it could have been the brownie I ate beforehand. The onset of this, however, was much later than my previous dumping experiences as those started within 10-20 minutes of eating the offending food...so yeah, i feel pretty crappy right now
  11. I'll hit one year on August 15. Positive status update: Down 105 pre surgery diet, 90 post surgery. Ideal goal is probably another 5-10 lbs but honestly I'm very happy where I'm at now. I'm 5'7", size 10, and I think if I lose much more I might start to look gaunt. I log my food every day. Negative status update: I haven't embraced exercise into my routine. And worse than that, I've started to indulge in the crap food! Clearly I haven't yet mastered my mind issues with food. I know I shouldn't have unhealthy junk in the house but my husband and teenage kids want it... as do I, obviously. But even if it isn't in the house, if I really want something I'll find a way to get it. I truly do get comfort from eating those slider, junk foods. I've always known that wls wouldn't magically fix it all, so I'm not surprised by my continued struggle. I'm not giving up though! I'm still working to overcome this but I just wanted to be transparent in my sharing here that I'm still on a challenging journey. Sent from my SM-G935T using BariatricPal mobile app

    Post sleeve feelings

Hey guys. All of y’all that have just had surgery in the last 7-10 days, congrats! But seriously.... do NOT rush purées. Stay on liquids as long as you can. I know it sucks. You’ve been on a liquid diet since a few days before surgery and the need to chew on something is overwhelming. For many of you, the thought of yet another sweet drink makes you want to throw your head back and scream. I get it. Been there, done that. The reality though is you’re going to lose soooooooo much weight in these first few weeks and then it will slam to a halt fast. You don’t want to slow that down by rushing purées and semi-solids.

    Anyone use a CPAP machine?

I used mine. In fact they even added the oxygen to the cpap. I had to stay an extra night because of low oxygen levels. New_Me 2019
  15. Hi everyone! I am a February 2019 sleever and I'm down 100 lbs! Yay! But now at 6 months...the scale has been going up. It's about 6 lbs higher than what I weighed at my lowest. I have been introducing new foods and I recently got injured at the gym so I've just been doing cardio... has anyone experienced this at 6 months? A stall or weight gain? Also...what were you eating at 6months? I really just want to take this time as an opportunity and not go backwards. Thank you!! Sent from my SM-G965U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Challenging yoga dvds

Try a service like Daily Burn. It's around $10 a month and you get new workouts, literally, daily at all levels. They give you a one week trial for free. Until I joined a gym, I used it for Pilates.

    "I think you're overdoing it"

Yes! I tell people “for the first time in a VERY long time my body is finally doing what it should have been doing all along —what everyone else with a normal metabolisms body does— by mobilizing stored fat for fuel. As long as I get in adequate protein and take my supplements (which I do) I could do this until every single ounce of excess fat is gone and be completely healthy”. People really don’t know how to respond to that. For people who’ve never had insulin resistance and/or metabolic syndrome, it’s a complete novel thought that your body would not use stored fat. I guess that’s where the myth that fat people always eat and never work out myth came from. 10 years ago when I was 270 pounds, I started running. I lost some weight along the way (got all the way down into the 230’s and it took me 8 months hard diet and exercise) I was running 3-5 miles 3-4 times weekly and everyone kept telling me “good job”. I finally had to stop because of some back and foot injuries probably not helped by 75 pounds excess weight. It’s so aggravating that there are 2 standards: if you’re still overweight, you’re encouraged to exercise more. Lose down close to goal and everyone wants to be a critic.

    Time to eat

10 minutes! Wow, that's pretty impressive...and you don't get any chest pain?

    Time to eat

Okay so I’m actually a pretty fast eater. I don’t get lunch breaks at work. It’s always an “eat on the fly” kind of environment. That being said, I also hate to graze, so it can get tricky. I’ve actually done things like eat a single hard boiled egg in 2 minutes. Not saying that I recommend it.... just saying I’ve done it. Multiple times. My fave food for days when I know we’re gonna be slammed the whole day is one of those P3 packs. I get the one with turkey, ham, and cheese and can finish it within 10 minutes. Again, not ideal, but better than skipping a meal (or drinking a slider-ish protein shake). I’m almost 6 months out and can only hold up to 1 cup food at a time.

    💜AUGUST 2019 CHALLENGE💜

In! 1. Okay so this sounds weird, but I’m setting a personal goal for August to avoid alcohol entirely. Wine had been creeping back unto my diet and then there was a tequila tasting and....well no wonder I had a bit of a stall lately. I want to average losing 2 pounds/week this month and that’s the ONLY way to achieve it. 2. VGS on 2/6/19. Still losing and approx 20-30 pounds from goal weight. 3. Weight this morning was 174.0 and I’m 5’7”. This puts me at a BMI of 27.2. 4. Fun fact: back in 1991 I was eating lunch with a friend at a diner in Shawnee, OK. We were being pretty loud and laughing and dishing about different guys, etc (I was 23yo) and my friend whispered to me that there was some “really cute guy” in the booth right behind me eavesdropping on our convo and laughing. Me being me, I started throwing packets of sweet and low over my shoulder seeing if I could hit him. Apparently I got him a couple of times and told him I was “just sending some fake sugar” his way. After he left, the waitress came over and asked me how in the world was I brave enough to flirt that outrageously with Brad Pitt. My response was “who?” Honestly I’d been in pharmacy school for the last 5 years and had no clue who he was. Just thought it was some random guy.
  24. Yesterday's Menu - July 30th (I had a relatively grazy day too yesterday...but ended up with a low calorie day despite my calorie push at the end because I got distracted and started eating way too late in the day) 5'2" ♀️ 9m post-op 115.1 lbs (maintaining) Gonna do something a little different, I'll put in the times I eat instead of meal number...sometimes I don't consider times I eat as meals... 9:45 am: cup of chicken broth + cup tea (10 cals) 2:00 pm: salad w/ 2oz grilled chicken + 1 oz duck breast + 1oz cheese + (170 cals) 3:45 pm: 1oz chicharrron + vinegar/sesame dipping sauce (86 cals) 5:30 pm: salad w/ 2oz grilled chicken + 1/2 oz cheese + 2oz peaches + 1 fl oz pumpkin seeds (229 cals) 7:30 pm: 1 tbsp chocolate ice cream + 1/2 of a 2-bite brownie + 1 fl oz pumpkin seeds + 33g beef jerky (211 cals) Totals: 704 cals, 83g Protein, 23g NET carbs, 44g fat
