    Dr Trace Curry Cincinnati

I switched to Dr. Curry’s office after I had my LapBand done in 2013. I am scheduled for a band to sleeve revision on the 28th if this Monday.
  2. I had the sleeve done in January 2014. It was successful when you consider why I had it. Which was to be able to get pregnant along with some other health concerns. I didn't lose as much weight as one would think but again it wasn't my intention anyway. I just wanted to get to a healthier weight. My highest was 311 and the lowest I got to post sleeve was 206. I loved the way I felt and looked at that weight. After having a baby and falling into some bad old habits but more importantly suffering from severe acid.reflux and being dependent on antacids I decided to look into revision surgery. On Sept 17th I weighed 286 as of today I weigh 254. Things are for the most part going well and I no longer rely on antacids. That being said I am suffering on a daily basis from pain shooting from abdomen to back. It is below breast bones in center. I am most certain it is gas so I've been taking a lot of gas-x. I suffer from chronic pain from a previous injury so I take pain medication daily. I eat when I am hungry but throw up almost every time which happen the first time while I was training my mind and body until I learned the hard way what not to have. So I've just switched to protein drinks and water. But the pain is almost unbearable and I'm wondering if anyone else had this happen to them?

Down 110 with 15 left to goal!

I'm in the same situation as you. It's near impossible to get the last 10 lbs off. Also I am having a revision after 2 years and four months of severe acid reflux. I'm actually okay at my weight now but I won't be upset if I lose a little more. Hopefully we can both get to goal. 😀

    Finally Home

Hello everyone, Had my band to sleeve revision on May 3. Went to the doctor on May16 was put back in the hospital and finally got to come home today. It has been a pretty rough ride for me so far. I had an upper GI done and sleeve not leaking or blockage just really bad swelling. They ended up having to put a picc line in me and gave me nutrition through the line to be able to let my sleeve rest. Been feeling pretty good since I got home today working really hard to be able to maintain my fluid intake. I hope that I will be able to keep the fluids down. So say that little extra prayer for me.

TammygRN it's been rough for me too and I'm still regretting my decision. I came home with a PICC line as a precaution for leaks. I had lap band to VSG revision and the scar tissue was so bad that my surgeon couldn't even see my band when he got in there. He also mentioned that there was also scar tissue underneath where the band was wrapped around my stomach. All I can do is hope and pray that everything will strengthen in the 3 weeks that I will be receiving TPN and I won't have any additional complications. I'm a very nervous/anxious sleever right now. My first 2-3 days were really rough. I'm finally starting to feel more like myself. I hope you are doing better. Hopefully we will both eventually come to love our sleeves.

    Revision surgery 9/8/2021

I appreciate the updates. I just had revision on 11/17.
  8. First time starting a thread -- a long time coming! My lap band journey began just before my Senior year of college back in December 2008, I have a dense family history of morbid obesity and was finding myself headed in the same direction tipping the scales at 240 lbs my Junior year of college (I'm only 5'2"). I opted for lap band as I was young, worried about a permanent procedure, and excited to be able to control my restriction. My lowest weight was 135 lbs and although I definitely wasn't always good to my band, I found it to be an overall positive experience and certainly life changing. There are so many things I was able to do, feel and experience because of my weight loss at such a pivotal time in my life. At times I've wondered what the fate of my band would be but as the years went by the restriction and presence of my band became a part of me (UNTIL IT ACTUALLY BECAME A PART OF ME...lol...read on). The only major side effect besides the occasion "stuck" incident was debilitating gas pain. I would get gas so bad I'd become totally bloated and doubled over, but like the band, I learned to live with these episodes...and stopped eating Beans altogether. Three months ago I began to feel a faint "airyness" in my tummy, similar to the gnawing sensation that you might feel with an ulcer (I'm guessing). It wasn't painful but a noticeable difference. As weeks went on, other symptoms began to appear -- two or three isolated feelings of nausea, slight chest tightness/esophagus pain, slight heartburn (never acid in the throat though), upper back pains, NEW pain when food passed through the band, and as a result of all of these: randomly rapid heart rate! I've come to believe the heart rate was anxiety and/or my bodies' reaction to these symptoms. I knew it was time to get some tests done... After a visit to my surgeon and near-perfect upper GI (no slip), we took all of the saline out of the band (I had been at the same restriction for a good while) and waited to see if symptoms improved. A few did, a few did not. I began to wonder if it was even band-related or maybe just new stress-related gastro issues. Needless to say I was falling down a deep, scary WebMD hole of worry. I made an appointment with a wonderful gastroenterologist to rule out other causes, he had me get an ultrasound and endoscopy. Ultrasound: perfect! Wonderfully placed organs. Then finally the Endoscopy: your band has eroded! Yep. Lap Band erosion, there it was, poking through my tummy. It wasn't as severe looking as some I've seen so I'm hoping/thinking it hasn't been like that for too long. After the test results I immediately went into see one of my two phenomenal surgeons (both have been practicing bariatric surgery as a team for years - they are amazing humans). He said there was definitely a hole in my tummy and that both the band would need to come out and that my tummy would need to be repaired. He assured me that although I had been maintaining at 165-170 lbs, I would surely gain the weight back once the band was removed. So he offered to revise to a sleeve -- basically free of charge. He concluded that because I would need repair anyways, they might as well just take a bigger chunk out of me. Although, I wasn't quite ready for the conversion, I trust my surgeons and knew that my insurance would not cover a sleeve down the road. My brother and aunt have both had the sleeve with great results and I started remembering where I was when I had first elected to get the band -- I would love to avoid going back to that weight. In the back of my mind though, I wondered if it might be a fight with insurance for "band removal," low and behold -- IT IS. Although I am on track to get the surgery on April 26th, insurance has already messed everything up. HELP! Questions... 1) My insurance (which is supposedly AMAZING) doesn't cover ANYTHING related to bariatric surgery or weight loss (ugh). Not removal, not fills, nothin! However, there is a hole in my stomach. As the doctors have said, this is not a sustainable situation. If I don't get it fixed now, I will end up in the ER. Today, I received the initial denial letter. Has anyone else found themselves in this situation? I'm not "electing" to have the band removed -- IT JUST NEEDS TO COME OUT, my stomach has a damn hole in it! 2) My surgeon seems confident in a one-stage revision. In fact, both of my skilled surgeons will be performing the procedure. Has anyone else with erosion done a one-stage revision? How'd it go? Any help is much appreciated and thanks for reading my long-winded story. These forums have been a real help as I've gone through these many symptoms. Currently, the only real pain I'm experiencing is sometimes when eating, intermittent back pains, and at night -- hoping it doesn't get worse before surgery... Cheers!
  9. I had my band to sleeve revision done here in Florida, and was scheduled to stay in the hospital for 3 total days, 2 nights. My surgeon performs 3 leak tests. The last leak test being performed on the day of discharge. From everything I've seen here and on a couple of other boards, the average stay is 2-3 days. I'm grateful that he requires the 3 days. On the day of discharge a leak was found on the last test, and it was repaired immediately. The reason for my leak was due to the damage the band caused to my stomach. Leak risks triple with revisions, and I'm so glad they found it before I was discharged.
  10. I hit a normal BMI within 8 months of having VSG. My BMI was 50 when I started, and I maintained that weight for a year before pregnancy. I was 263lbs the day of my revision, standing 5'2" and before pregnancy, my weight was 125lbs. So, yes, I'm in a normal BMI for my height. Before going off just getting to a normal BMI, please investigate and research, the regain stats and long term complications on RNY. Also, check out the Revision forum on obesityhelp.com and see just how many RNY patients are looking at revisions because of complications with their pouch/stoma or with significant regain. Think of all the pros and cons of each surgery type. Not just getting to your goal. Maintenance with any of the surgeries is the tough part. Losing was/is disgustingly easy for me, maintaining that's where the work comes in. With RNY, there is no guarantee that you will dump on sugars, only 30% of RNY'ers dump on sugar/fats. You'll only get 2 years on malabsorption of calories/fat/carbs, then after that you have to rely on dieting and your pouch to keep your portions small. I'm not trying to convice (ok maybe I am), but please research every aspect of both surgeries, and go with what is best for you long term.

    Sex & the Band....

Not to be too graphic, but I just found out I need a port revision. My port flipped...and I think it was a wild night that may have flipped it!! Maybe not, but that's the only time I have been aware of "feeling" my port since I had the surgery. So if something feels uncomfortable, stop and try something different!!

    Band slippage

I was told today that my BMI is too low for a sleeve revision. So I guess we'll just do a lab band repair. It's my second slippage 'repair' in 3 yrs... So disappointed ????
  14. As a band to bypass revision I think you are definitely making the right choice. I could tell you so much about the years of misery with my band and damage done by it. Feel free to message me if you want details.
  15. Hi, My name is Lauri, I am happily married to my husband Ray, I'm 48 years old & as the title says, I'm in Danville, PA. I'm looking for anyone around here that has maybe recently had gastric bypass, or even better yet sleeve to bypass revision. I am being fast tracked & am looking for someone that I can turn to for help, support, and who can relate to what I'm going through. Right now, even though I'm extremely happily married & my husband is more than supportive, he just can't fully understand the loneliness, and the changes that I have had to deal with in such a short time. On March 8th I quit smoking, on March 27th I started the diet that the hospital put me on. I was told that I only have to maintain my weight, but I have actually lost 10lbs since March 21st when I went to see the nutritionist. Yep, I defied the odds, I quit smoking AND lost weight LOL!!!!! As I said, I'm looking for someone who is going, or has gone, through the WLS through Geisinger
  16. It does happen, with any of the WLS procedures, though with somewhat differing rates. Revising from the bypass to the sleeve is possible (talk to your surgeon!) though the results are unlikely to be all that good as they are both similar in their overall power. As with most revisions, the second surgery tends to yield less, and slower, loss. The key to any of them is to understand why the weight has come back and get a handle on that, as one can eat around any of these procedures. There are some bypass specific procedures that are sometimes done in an attempt to correct some problems - band over bypass or different stoma tightening techniques, but they overall don't seem to have a very good success record. The best approach that I have seen is to revise it to a duodenal switch, as that procedure offers better regain resistance than the others, but that's a very complex procedure for which only a very few surgeons are qualified (like maybe half a dozen or so). From what I have seen over the years, is that 30 lb or so regain is fairly easily lost again over some months by getting back to dietary basics and cutting out whatever junk has crept back into the diet. 50lb regain or so seems to be more of a 50/50 thing as to whether one can pull it back with diet or have to revise.
  17. Hi - I have had lap band surgery twice. 2005 and a revision and hieatal hernia repair in 2008. I always seem to form a pouch so I can eat as much as I want without any restriction. Then I go get an adjustment and the pouch dissolves, does anyone else have this problem. I use to be able to eat and then stop when I felt restriction, not any longer
  18. Hi I had some of my weight back, now I am having my revision to bypass, I have bad GERD , try to came back to the gymn and cut the calories to 1000 Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  19. My recovery from revision surgery was very easy. I was I was 45 when I got the band - 52 for revision. It was done in 1 surgery and I did not have the gas pain like I did with the band surgery. I was expecting the recovery to be long & painful and was pleasantly surprised how easy it was
  20. @@CowgirlJane what was your success with the band? I was very successful 100% EWL until kids and complications. I struggle with a fear that as a band revision patient I will not be as successful…. I see these older posts about "slow losing" and I worry that I have damaged my esophagus and I will not feel the restriction. This, despite my surgeon and GI doctor performing testing and assuring me that "there is no reason not to get the sleeve"! I had a nightmare about it last night - surgery is at end of June!
  21. Welcome and congratulations on making the decision to take control of your health! I had my rny on June 9th, am down 60 pounds and do not have one single regret! The primary reason I would recommend the rny, is seeing all of the revisions on this site, so, so many people get the sleeve and years later have an rny and who wants to go through any type of surgical procedure twice? Best of luck, whichever path you take!!

    Gastric sleeve left side pain

I have left shoulder pain if I eat one bite too many or the wrong thing. Lap band 2009 Sw 200/lw 161 Sleeve revision 17 May/17 Sw 217 CW 198.8
  23. Re: the bad habits. I was doing really well with the band until I had a fill that was too tight. That was the beginning of the slider food phase that lasted me 2.5 years until I had my revision this past February. Now that I'm on a new path AGAIN- I'm praying that I don't slip back. The only thing I do know is that I won't be going in for an adjustment for the sleeve so there is no reason for me to go back to slider foods.
  24. Great to hear about easy recoveries. I dont have a surgery date yet and not sure yet if I'll have to have one or two procedures for my revision from band to bypass. Hope it's one though.

    New member introductions

Hi, thanks for letting me join. I have been a VST member for quite awhile, I currently post mostly on the vets and band to sleeve revision forums. I had the lapband in 2001, removed in 2011. I was sleeved in Dec 2011 and made it to goal in about 14 months, losing 150+ pounds. That is about half my starting body weight! Maintenance has been going okay, but I had a small regain and used 5:2 to get 5 pounds off. I have been following it for around 4-6 weeks, but noticed that in recent weeks (probably due to work schedule) the fast days are getting hard to follow - I could use the support! I plan on getting plastic surgery Oct 15, so I need to maintain good health and nutrient levels, but would like to drop another 5# if I can!
