  1. Im super anxious about this insurance stuff! My BMI is right at 40... I'm hoping it's good enough to get the approval. I feel like I have exhausted all other weight loss ideas and tries. I really need some sort of permanent restriction! I love seeing all of the success stories, it makes me realize it's possible! I'm starting out at 242 and hope to one day reach 145!
  2. Well you two it took me a bit to google and translate kilos into pounds lol, but I think I got the gist of the weight gains and losses. Like Chilo said there are many band to sleeve revisions on this site and they will be able to give you the low down on that idea. I was just curious though, I heard the port and metal on the bands were titanium like the staples used for the sleeve. If this is so you may need to go with a physician that uses threaded sutures and glue vs the staples if this is possible or maybe go with the gastric plication which is not excising the stomach only folding it within itself and suturing it up, to avoid the titanium. Hmmm
  3. Hi everyone, ok I've been wanting to write on here for awhile so here goes, I'm from Ontario Canada, I have finishes with all my visits with the bariatric team and my surgery is set for May 28th! My surgeon mentioned that I'm more of a candidate for the sleeve apposed to the gastric bypass, can anyone tell me if there is any difference between either surgery afterwards like the eating, recovery, weight loss...etc etc. I have been reading and preparing for the gastric bypass and not familiar with the sleeve. Also if anyone is interested my email is mariamassa@hotmail.ca for support. All the best to all!

    My Band

I'm glad that your slipped band resolved itself and you are now back to being able to feel restriction. I'm seeing similar posts that echo what I've experienced with the unfill - refill process; once you've had to have unfill, it seems to be more difficult to find that optimal fill experience, even when refilled back to your original level. I wonder why this is? I am having great difficulty finding my footing after being unfilled and re-filled. While I'm not refilled back to my original level, I'm leery of refilling to my original level because I had issues at that level (esophegal spasms--very painful, like a heart attack.) But my current fill level isn't doing it for me and I have to rely on immense amounts of willpower just to maintain the weight I lost. I've been maintaining this weight for a year, with no gain but no loss. It is frustrating because before I unfilled, my band did so much more work in dimming my cravings and controlling my portions. Now I'm feeling just like a dieter, almost...Well, not quite. I still don't eat certain foods, but only because I say no to them with great difficulty.

    My Band

Omg you hit the nail right on the head . I was almost at tears when I read your post. I scared of the band slipping , and it's affecting my overall health and ability to lose weight. Slider foods are not safe only fattening. I will hang in there cause I came to far to go back.

    Me in highschool, 2004

Thank you!! My original goal was 140, and I'm now at 133 so there was a need to modify that, LOL. I just didn't picture myself getting lower than 140 and didn't want to be disappointed. That being said, I think my new goal is going to be 125. I'm keeping that same mindset of, if I can get down to 125 that will allow me 5 pounds of "flex" weight so that I don't have to diet like crazy, and it's easy to maintain
  7. My doctor asks patients to do a 1-2 week preop consisting of 2-3 low carb Protein shakes and one "lean and green" meal. It is for the purpose of liver shrinking.. he does not care about the weight loss. Personally I'm trying to lose a total of 40 pounds prior to my surgery in order to avoid the "high bmi" $500.00 surcharge! 9 more pounds to go!
  8. Hello everyone. I am so excited to find a website with others that have one common interest as I do. I am still in the Pre-Op stages of my lapband journey and I am still waiting to hear from my doctors office whether or not I am approved. After researching for a year, I finally made my first appointment in January with my surgeon. To me this is such a scary process even though I know that this device is gonna help me toward a more fullfilling life. I have a lot of weight to lose and some have told me that lapband is not the one I need, but I just need something to help me lose weight not do it for me totally. So this is me: Age 27 Weight 350 Goal 150 Surgeon Dr. Paul Enochs (Bariatic Specialist of North Carolina in Cary, NC) Nice to meet you all, FeFe

    scrambled eggs

Thanks for the info! And congrats on your awesome weight loss!!! I haven't had any problems with the eggs so far. I had some again for dinner last night. I won't have a fill for another two weeks, I don't know if that has anything to do with it. I don't scramble my eggs until they dry out, and I like to put about a tablespoon of ketchup in them... maybe that's what has kept me from having a PB with them.

  14. Hi, fellow Sask. handers! I've been off the forums for a long time...summer kind of got in my way....I got "cocky" and have been struggling to get back on track. I exercised a LOT this summer but ate too much, so I've been at a plateau since June 28. Recently, I've been having ab pain and discomfort, so the nurses suggested a de-fill. I've been doing liquids and soft foods for about a week which has helped keep the weight off! I am due to go back for a fill this week and see if I can get going again. How are you two doing?
  15. Hey everyone longtime no chat lol !!! The reason I have not been on for a while is because my Doctor told me I needed the gastrix bypass insted of the lapband  cause my liver function level was hi and he felt that bypass would be best for me cause the weight would come down quicker and my liver function level would drop back to normal. Plus I looked for a gastix bypass forum and didn't find one worth a dang. So I decided to go with the doctors reconmendation and get the gastrix bypass. How ever those who remember me knows how long it's been since I was supposed to get banded now I finially got my surgery date  Nov. 20th surgery is at 9:30 :cool2: Pre opt. Nov. 7th 3:00pm:thumbup: Nov. 5th I got to start atkinson diet :w00t: well guys I hope you all don't mind if I keep you guy's as a support group how ever I do got some questions about the after math of the surgery far as what in the world to eat and what not to eat I'm sure it is no different than the bypass I wouldn't think but if anyone knows fill me in on it thanks Jason
  16. Hello, I'm a retired teacher living in rural Ontario. I was first banded in 2002 in Toronto, at Scarborough Grace Hospital by Dr. P. Yau. I received an Inamed lapband. (Inamed was later bought out by Allergan.) Although many had much luck with the Inamed band, some, like me, had disconnection issues -- that it, the connecting tube disconnects from the band itself. I disconnected 4 times in the space of 9 years.....each time my doctor had to re-operate to reconnect me. After my fourth disconnect, my doctor, who now works only for The Slimband Clinic in Toronto, replaced my faulty band with a new Slimband lapband on November 8th, 2011. I have just had my first fill. Before my first disconnect, I lost 76 pounds and managed to barely get below 200 lbs. But with all the disconnections and the waiting times to be re-connected, I gained back 34 lbs of the 76. So I am really excited to be back on my weight loss journey again. I will be in Florida from Jan-mid March...and looking for a fill doctor in the Daytona. area. Thanks. Julie.

    Pain beneath incision

I wasn't cleared to do anything abdominal until I was cleared to do weights at the 6 week mark, but for about the first 3-4 weeks I had pain in a similar spot. Freaked me out a bit, until the surgeon explained that they come in at an angle and the "inside hole" wasn't in the same place as the "outside hole". Still worth calling the doc and seeing what they say, just in case something weird is going on! Good luck to you

    Weigh in and insurance

I had the same thing happen actually. I thankfully realized I had gained 5 lbs when I went to see a different doctor. I was 285 at initial apt and 290 a couple weeks later. Unfortunately every insurance is different. My surgeons group had a specific person who dealt with my insurance company's rules for the pre-op diet so I called her to verify. When I did see the 290lb I did get sad for a couple days because my insurance won't let me gain any weight. I have to stay the same or lose so I started looking at what I was eating. I have a sweet tooth. I'm working with a therapist now to get mentally prepared for after surgery, no binges or overeating, and cut back on sweets. I was able to get down to 284 in a week that way. I follow high protein, high fiber, low fat, low carb. Sugar doesn't make you fat, fat makes you fat. I'm also vegan. Animal meat is much more fatty than tofu, tempeh, or seitan. Oh, and don't know if you know this, drinking alot of water will help with water retention during your period which will help with weight. I also lift weights or do leg lifts, stability ball etc while I'm watching TV. I can't do much as I have back problems and chronic pain. These are just a few things I do. I hope these help you! Good luck! You can do it! Sent from my SM-N920T using BariatricPal mobile app

I'm constantly tired no matter what I do... This burning in my throat in cheast are constant and its irritating... Glad you had more results with lap band.. Lord knows I didn't.. I feel better just knowing its out of me... I am like you.. Able to eat stuff, but just small portions... I watch my sugar and fat intake and still not getting the results I'm wanting... Hope it gets better!!!
  21. Well I had my lap band removed and my sleeve surgery May 21st and since the surgery I lost 12 pounds. Now that I have started introducing more foods into me I have already GAINED 4 pounds back. I am constantly tired "work 8 hours a day and have a two year old" I walk every evening and I watch my fat and sugar intake like my Dr told me to do. I haven't gotten my vitamins started yet hopefully today I can go pick them up. Any suggestions on what to take? Any advice on the gaining? HELP!! Very discouraged after all I've been though with the band not working and now I'm discouraged with this :thumbup1:

  24. Hello All, I have finely made my decision that I want to have the lap band surgery, I am leaning towards getting it done in Tijuana, Mexico http://www.angeleshealth.com/weight-loss-surgery . I am running into an issue, if I have the surgery out of the country are there any doctors in Georgia that will do the fillers?. It does not make sense for me to have the surgery if I can't find a doctor or if I can't fford the fillers once I get back. Secondly, I have yet to find a doctor in Atlanta that will deal with patiens that have had there lap band surgery out of the country. I need some direction, please help!!
