    Harmful cough?

Im also one week and a day post surgery. Yes, i was taking my meds a couple days ago and it must have went down the wrong way, i had a coughing fit for about 10 mins and i was in agony! I had to take pain meds yesterday and today as it now is sore to bend or stretch. Pain today is better than yesterday tho. Good luck!

    "I think you're overdoing it"

Yes! I tell people “for the first time in a VERY long time my body is finally doing what it should have been doing all along —what everyone else with a normal metabolisms body does— by mobilizing stored fat for fuel. As long as I get in adequate protein and take my supplements (which I do) I could do this until every single ounce of excess fat is gone and be completely healthy”. People really don’t know how to respond to that. For people who’ve never had insulin resistance and/or metabolic syndrome, it’s a complete novel thought that your body would not use stored fat. I guess that’s where the myth that fat people always eat and never work out myth came from. 10 years ago when I was 270 pounds, I started running. I lost some weight along the way (got all the way down into the 230’s and it took me 8 months hard diet and exercise) I was running 3-5 miles 3-4 times weekly and everyone kept telling me “good job”. I finally had to stop because of some back and foot injuries probably not helped by 75 pounds excess weight. It’s so aggravating that there are 2 standards: if you’re still overweight, you’re encouraged to exercise more. Lose down close to goal and everyone wants to be a critic.

    Time to eat

10 minutes! Wow, that's pretty impressive...and you don't get any chest pain?

    Time to eat

Okay so I’m actually a pretty fast eater. I don’t get lunch breaks at work. It’s always an “eat on the fly” kind of environment. That being said, I also hate to graze, so it can get tricky. I’ve actually done things like eat a single hard boiled egg in 2 minutes. Not saying that I recommend it.... just saying I’ve done it. Multiple times. My fave food for days when I know we’re gonna be slammed the whole day is one of those P3 packs. I get the one with turkey, ham, and cheese and can finish it within 10 minutes. Again, not ideal, but better than skipping a meal (or drinking a slider-ish protein shake). I’m almost 6 months out and can only hold up to 1 cup food at a time.

    💜AUGUST 2019 CHALLENGE💜

In! 1. Okay so this sounds weird, but I’m setting a personal goal for August to avoid alcohol entirely. Wine had been creeping back unto my diet and then there was a tequila tasting and....well no wonder I had a bit of a stall lately. I want to average losing 2 pounds/week this month and that’s the ONLY way to achieve it. 2. VGS on 2/6/19. Still losing and approx 20-30 pounds from goal weight. 3. Weight this morning was 174.0 and I’m 5’7”. This puts me at a BMI of 27.2. 4. Fun fact: back in 1991 I was eating lunch with a friend at a diner in Shawnee, OK. We were being pretty loud and laughing and dishing about different guys, etc (I was 23yo) and my friend whispered to me that there was some “really cute guy” in the booth right behind me eavesdropping on our convo and laughing. Me being me, I started throwing packets of sweet and low over my shoulder seeing if I could hit him. Apparently I got him a couple of times and told him I was “just sending some fake sugar” his way. After he left, the waitress came over and asked me how in the world was I brave enough to flirt that outrageously with Brad Pitt. My response was “who?” Honestly I’d been in pharmacy school for the last 5 years and had no clue who he was. Just thought it was some random guy.

    OOTD

Thank you for being brave and posting your beautiful pictures. They have given me so much hope. I am one week post op from sleeve and beginning to look like a Mrs. potatoes head. My face is slimming down. I notice my wrist and feet look slimmer. And then I see the blob of my stomach. I look strange. I am excited about this journey but this thread has helped me keep my eye on the prize as I have my endless supply of protein shakes and faith that my body is doing the work. Thank you. New_Me 2019

Keto Bagels Recipe These Keto bagels will make you very, very happy! Thanks to the ingenious mozzarella (Fathead) dough, they are gluten free and low in carbs. Course Breakfast Cuisine British Keyword gluten free bagels, keto bagels, low carb bagels Prep Time 10 minutes Cook Time 20 minutes Total Time 30 minutes Servings 6 Calories 231 kcal Author Katrin Ingredients 1 1/2 cup / 175g shredded mozzarella 1 cup / 100g almond flour extra fine. 1 1/4 cup / 125 g when using ground almonds / almond meal 1 egg, large, beaten 4 tbsp / 50g cream cheese 1 tbsp psyllium husk powder 1 tsp baking powder poppy / sesame seeds optional Instructions Preheat the oven to 180 Celsius / 360 Fahrenheit Melt the mozzarella and cream cheese in the microwave (1 1/2 minutes on high) or in a non stick pan. In another bowl, mix the dry ingredients - almond flour, psyllium husk powder and baking powder. Add dry ingredients plus the beaten egg to the mozzarella. Combine with a spatula, then knead with your hands until you have a smooth dough. Alternatively, mix in a stand mixer or food processor. Form a large ball and cut into 6 segments. Form each segment into a log, lay them down in a circle and pinch the ends together to make bagel shapes. Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Sprinkle with poppy seeds or sesame seeds. Bake for ca 20 minutes or until lightly browned on top. Recipe Notes If the dough is sticky, lightly oil your hands. It is easier to handle once it cools. The dough should be room temperature when it goes in the oven. This prevents the bagels from flattening in the oven. The bagel shapes should be tall and the hole a decent size (check my images). When the bagels rise, they also spread a little. This way you ensure your end product looks good. If you're using coarse almond flour / almond meal / ground almonds, increase the amount to 125 g / 1 1/4 cup. The bagels firm as they cool down. They can be reheated in the microwave or lightly toasted. You can store them in the fridge for up to a week or freeze them. Weight Gain?

Well maybe this one will be 6lbs 7oz or 7lbs 6oz, both perfectly normal baby weights and will set her up for optimal health! The other weights were fabulous, but still on the larger side so the new research shows that may convey a tiny bit of added risk as an adult. But not like the mondo 10-12lb babies! Congrats on managing your pregnancies so well. You're gonna be a superstar. I hope other pg mommies come post for you to give you reassurance!!!

    Keto vs. No Keto

13 grams, total carbs is what it says. When I get home, I will download the fitness app. I'm going to start eating Oikos again and I'll add some blueberries/blackberries I can still have my fruit and eat them too ❤️ @Frustr8 @GreenTealael @FluffyChix - I love love love bean patties, I just wish they had some without corn. I'll invest in more of those, fish, and chicken this shopping trip. Also, I like to make taco meat and put it on a bed of spinach. I usually don't put much on my salad due to being full after several bites, but those few are worth it. I do add a bit of Catalina to it. That too, I'll need to stop doing. PS. I finished my breakfast a little over an hour ago and I'm not hungry. Usually at this point, I would have already had my 10:00 snack. It will all of the oatmeal carbs, WOW!!!!!

    Weight Gain?

Hey Much Congratulations, although many will be adverse I believe your Young Lady was meant to be, she👶 just didn't want to wait to make YOU her Mommy! My own Mommy , I believe had what Prince William's wife _(and also his Mum had) they had to stop the gurney on her way to be delivered so she could vomit. List 15 pounds but I was a healthy husky 7 pounds & 12 ounces, 10-12 says early, if I had "baked" another two weeks maybe theyvwoykd have been warned. how BIG I was going to Grow! And I was a product of the mid 49s when Healthy Babies were Fat Babies, at a year I was 35 inchs tall, 26 pounds, the size of today's 2- 2 1/2 year old. Some people were BORN TO BE WILD, well I was BORN TO BE FAT and it wasn't until 72 I was able to defeat my heritage with a RNY BYPASS and a good bariatric surgeon who kept me motivated and said No You're NOT TOO OLD! God Bless and keep safe my Bradley J Needleman MD who gave me a chance to have a Future instead of a rapidly approaching Death! And now I look like this👗instead of a cheese puffball with Red Hair m

Calling all vets- where are you

ProudGrammy, Sorry you're having this Dialysis Dealing " Off The Bottom of the Deck" , my report is still not on level with you're. But it was time for my Sleep Doctor's re-evaluation , I am. going to be one of the Rare Birds whose Obstructive Sleep Apnea WAS NOT CURED by Bariatric surgery and Weight Loss. Oh I am still happy I started with a HW of 365+, I say "+" because at THAT point I was so dismayed and disappointed with my body size I refused any subsequent weighing. Even made a SICK Wise- Crack, told them to weigh me again in My Casket! Oh I didn't REALLY WANT DEATH that badly but I thought it inevitable. Now LOVE, I weight proudly at 189.9, NOT NAD for almost 11 months past Surgery I Think, now in size 18, for all who think " So What, not THAT SMALL!" I started at, when I could find them , a 28-30 Woman-size, usually slunk over to the Mens Side and bought 4X sweats, unless I engineered skirts and slacks on my Huskavarna, because I was not only a Girl Scout, I was a 4Her for 10 years and did know how to tailor and sew, cut my own patterns out of newpaper, taped pieces together until I had a " Brillant Attack" and bought PaperBoltEnds from my local one. That helped but still got down on the floor to cut them, too big for laying them, out on my Kitchen Table . Not a Joyous Memory, is it? Well, while I was going to be there anyway , on our PCP' recommendation, they evaluated my Son the Tomkitten, and no Surprize, He Also has Obstructive Sleep Apnea also So they do them in 2 steps here, so August,6th we both go back for further Sleep Setting Titration. And like YOU I can say THANK YOU DADDY because that's who in my Family Tree🌴to Thank! And before him And proper testing, ii could have remained UNDIAGNOSED for Generations! And this gives my Baby Boy a Second Valid Co- Morb with GERD toward Bariatrics, many people say he carries it Well but I'd currently marching through life with an 18 collar size and a 37.7 BMI, PCP made snide comment, at least it SOUNDED,THAT WAY to my Mommy Ears, " Every pound Your Mother Loses You Gain"! And he started stamping "Morbid Obesity" on TK' s post- visit paperwork a couple # ago. TK said, "I downloaded an application from OSU so don't be surprised if You get a fax back from THEM"! PCP Said" You know In Just a Few months they will be starting them here", "No" said TK, "I am wagering that with GERD I will need what Mom had, I WANT HER Doctor! I'll discuss it with Him , but remember my Dad was a Gambler, I KNOW about Odds, and I will aim for That One"! Didn't pressure TK, completely HIS DECISION. But he did say ---I don't want to have to wait as old as YOU DID. So stay tuned my little "Frustr8 the ReRun" just may be in the Works too. Snicker Snicker, he NOW weighs almost 60 pounds more than me and oooh it p.o.' s Him Greatly! Never ever happened before in his life, of course NoT, I am Now a little Smaller than I was when Late Lamented and I Married in December 1967, oh my Wedding Dress was still an 18. but tight enough His Suspicious Relatives were certain I was Pregnant. They about choked on their chewing gum when I took me nearly 14 months to produce our 1st Baby👶. None of them LIKED fat people although 65% of them were legally obese themselves. See why of all my late hubby relatives I LIKED him best? Anyhoo I am now less than 15 pounds from My Personal Goal, I have passed my Surgeon -Dr Needleman and his Nurse Practitioner Valerie prediction of 197- 198 and Are You ready for THIS? My PCP, the Great White Producer of Useless diets and Pills--- He NOW SAYS I have lost TOO MUCH WEIGHT! Kathy, he used to dance around me singing Over and Over " YOU ARE GOING TO DIE BEFORE YOU ARE 75 " , golly I NEVER lacked motivation only the tools to effect the Loss! Should NEVER NEVER have challenged ME- I have been Redheaded since birth, stubborn. if I could survive Obesity what was going to STOP ME NOW? So I will continue to 🙏pray for You but Please be Happy for All this loss of poundage, still not certain what relative I will most resemble, big cast to choose from! Daddy had 10 living siblings when i was born , Mama 6 , all of them grew up fertile so Uber Cousins! And maybe you reemember, Every since seeing Daddy's Family ALbums I Have Said We HAVE Native American Blood flowing There! Ever known a Indian with strawberry blonde hair? You do niw, the High Cheekbones are UNDENIABLE , I made my late Aunt Minnie mad when I told her Great great Grandpa LOOKS like Iron Eyes Cody the Plains Indian Actor. Ga Ha Aunt Minnie, we are Mingos whether you wanted to admit it or not! Just proves I have more right to be here than the average Ohioan, this was my ancestors Land First! Did you know, of all the Midwestern States Ohio is the Only One with No designated Indian Reserves, after the Battle of Fallen Timbers my settler Ancestors tried running everyone off, well the last laugh, they didn't scrub Central and East Central Ohio totally clean We're still Here! My Cherokee friend calls me a Jelly 🍩 donut, White on the outside but strongly stuffed Red in the Interior. Okay by me, When Shianne, her mom a spelled it That Way so she wouldn't get mis- identified as a Plains Indian, dances at Pow Wow. she dances for me in spirit, helped her make some of her regalia. mm She is one Beautiful Young Lady! Make everybody a challenge- if you have Wikipedia on your computer/ smartphone Look under either Peoria Tribe or Peoria People, lady there is spitting image of Aunt Minnie, history states the Mingo merged into the Peoria, and they are Good Looking people, maybe because they are kinfolk? Oh Well just another facet that made Frustr8 trulyFrustr8 and I won't deny that! Have a Sunny Last Day of July!
  16. Ok.... honesty time. I’m having my surgery 8/12/19. My pre-op requires 1st week 2 meals 1 protein shake. 2nd week 2 shakes 1 meal. Today should be my 3rd day of 2 meals 1 shake but I’m struggling. I think I’m still thinking about how restrictive my life will be post op. Normally I have great discipline. People around me always comment on how when I put my mind to something I do it. Does or did Anyone else have this problem?

A rave and a rant ... (I sure do miss eating)

^^^^^This is huge! My RD gave me this advice when I was very early out. She told me that years later, she still has some patients who have a protein shake and get 25-30g of protein in early in the day, so they can have more "mixed meals" or veggie only meals. Or veg/fruit only meals. And she felt like that helped give more balance. I also agree with everyone here who mentioned that you are very early on in the process and so your restriction is really high. But over time, your tool will mature and will allow more food. You just need to be prepared for that so you make good choices when that happens. Rants/raves/grieving is important!!! This is a safe place to do it! Congrats on your 40lb loss, the exercise plan which will tone and build strength and endurance--yay woman!!! And all of these things are gonna give you so much confidence. I would suggest a mindset change tho. Shift and reframe the situation. Instead of ranting about the change, shift it and know this is a precious, fleeting, very short window-of-opportunity where your food limitations will give you the biggest bang for your wls buck! (ie lose the most weight for the least amount of effort). KISS. Keep it simple. I used to be a huge foodie. LOVED (still love) the whole shebang--process. Used to make elaborate meals. Used to entertain and plate things specially, etc. And now, we seriously grill or pan sautee a lean protein (often a few meals in advance and fridge it), then take 5-10 minutes to steam, pan sautee or roast a veg and have some avo/tom salad. LOL. That's almost every nightly meal (with a cheat meal thrown in every so often cuz I'm not an angel). And it works. B-L are no brainers and just about getting protein in and ending hunger. When going out, share with hubs. Do an app and eat a bite or two. Do a fancy salad and eat a bite. Do a lush entree and eat a bite or two...and be done. Have an espresso with heavy cream for dessert! It makes it more fun! If you want to get fancy pants at home, look up Gordon Ramsay on The YouTube and look at how he prepares "mains" and plates them up beautifully for home use. Do that! Pick a perfect protein. Make it like a chef and plate it with a baby fancy pants veg. Make it sparkle and look beautiful. Share the plate with hubs. No leftovers. Total satisfaction. ORRRRRRR start reframing your relationship with food and balance that interest with new, active, non-food pursuits that involve your hubs...like nightly walks together and then come home to your KISS meal of protein + veg + healthy fat...or even more-bettah: play nekkidy twister with him, or strip monopoly. Good times! You'll figure it out. Sorry for the book. But this hit home with me and this was the transition that really helped soothe me.
  18. Finally received my surgery date today & I’m having surgery August 21st. That day is even more special since it’s my mother’s birthday as well! Do I have a surgery date twin? Where are all my Aug 2019 cousins? It’s about to be our time! 😝

    Breaking a Stall

My taste buds have changed that's for sure. I was never a big fan of yogurt and now I love it and could eat it several times a day. I have experienced "dumping" and it is not fun. I know I need to cut out bread. two girls I know who gastric sleeve cant eat bread but not this girl. It doesn't seem to bother my new stomach :-( I cant eat too much sugar, it will make me nauseous which before I was a huge sugar addict. I just need to get off my lazy butt. I want at least another 10-15 off before the big 50 birthday in October.

    Time to eat

I'm one of those really slow eaters. I'm 9 months out and I take about an hour to eat a "regular" meal (I have become used to eating cold food!). It takes so long because I wait about 5-10 mins between 3-5 bites. If I don't take my time, I run the risk of overeating and then get that uncomfortable/painful chest-pressure feeling or worse, get barfy. P.S. back in my early post op days it was taking me 90 minutes to eat even less.

    Getting Ready for Surgery

Hey, congrats on this great move! I had my gastric bypass two weeks ago yesterday and I feel great. Here are some things I have experienced that may help you: The gas pain HURTS and pain killers don't take it away. Saw a video (after the fact) that a woman took Gas-X melting strips and she said that worked like a blessing. I didn't do that so I can't speak for it. Walk. Walk. Walk!!! Walk as soon as you are able in the hospital. I did so many laps and I believe that this led to my quick and easy recovery. Head hunger is real and can sure fool you into thinking you are hungry. Don't let your old habits carry over to your new self. Walk away from head hunger and do something interesting instead of eating. Don't overeat and don't under eat. Make sure you have at least two protein shakes a day (60 grams of protein) and drink as much clear liquid as you can. It's very hard to get all this in, especially in the beginning but try. Don't expect quick weight loss. In the two weeks post surgery, I have only shed 10 pounds. But I feel good and that matters most. I know weight will eventually come off because my caloric intake is a fraction of what it used to be. The biggest thing for me was finding out that my mind did not know I went through the surgery. I still craved food, looked through recipes, watched MasterChef with envy. But your body very much knows you went through surgery. Eat or drink too fast or too much, and your body will let you know. So far, I've only had tiny pain from drinking too big a gulp but it's very easy to forget to eat small and slow. Be positive and be happy. You are going through a lot and putting your body through a lot. Enjoy the possibilities of a brighter future and enjoy the ride! Best of luck to you!
  22. Help!!!! I am 10 mths post OP Gastric Sleeve and I havent gained or lost in like 2 mths. What is going on? I havent lost near as much as others. What can I do to jump start it again?? Sent from my SM-N950U using BariatricPal mobile app
  23. One week post op and feeling good. Drinking not a problem. Struggling getting my walking in cuz it is so HOT outside (105 today). Walking around the house and in the evenings. I hope everyone's journey is going well. New_Me 2019
  24. Once everything was done and submitted to insurance it took about 7-10 days.
  25. Well all my buddies and such- in 15 days I visit my Bariatric Clinic. I will be 11 months and 10,days out and I am told THIS shall suffice as my 1 Year Check- up. Since nobody is busting their Buns to see me, although I feel there are glaring insufficiencies here and there in MY recovery, nobody really sees. MY importance in the Grand Scheme, didn't really plan to see my Surgeon again, figured he and his partner were a One And Done, now that I have had my one chance at Stardom in the Operating Theatre, pfft I am NO LONGER OF ANY THRILL to those 2, okay if that's THE WAY the GAME IS PLAYED. But a little Air will be Cleared up or I will not be back even if it will be in September 2020. I woke up again this morning, in pain, feeling sick and nauseous, I know my stomach is empty, but Dayum I feel like I have ulcer pain, I am not dreaming This- I am NOT WISHING to feel sick so Don't Tell my sad ME it's all psychosomatic, I am not a HEAD Case, don't shunt me off to my County Mental Health, I live in a Small County, not the Megalopolis of my State Capital, my County has many who validly NEED THEM and unless YOU Drive me there with a Pointed Stick, I Ain't GOING. So I am looking for proper phraseology among my Journal and Motivation apps- like the REBA McENTIRE song says I AIN'T GOING OUT LIKE THAT, it is my appointment, me and insurance are paying for it, since it is close to One Year, I'm sure it is TIME for co-pays instead of Total Coverage so Yours Truly the Person they have so Richly Ignored is going All Out, Guns Blazing Verbally. What is the Worst They Can Do? IGNORE ME? Been doing a bang- up Job of THAT for months after months and then a week ago I was informed I HAVE BEEN " Grandfathered" into a GOOD HEALTH STATUS? HMMN- I DON'T THINK SO! I may make the NATIONAL NEWS for THIS TANTRUM- move over Donald Trump and all the Democratic Canidates to Supplant HIM--- IT'S FRUSTR8- TIME and my 15 minutes of GLORY is OVERDUE!
