    Stall and brain

Unfortunately the closer to your goal, the slower your rate of weight loss. Some weeks it is like the scale barely moves like a stall. It can be very frustrating. A it if what happening is you are eating closer to what your body actually needs to function & you are nearing your new body set point (the weight your body is happy with). A thing to consider is that your new set point may not be the weight you want to be. To get to a lower weight you will have to work harder & then will have to continue to eat less & be more active to maintain at the lower weight. Have a chat with your dietician & medical team. And if it is a persistent stall, sometimes a small tweak is all that is need to kick start your loss again. Body dysmorphia affects all of us in some way. It can take a while to see ourselves as we are now & it can also be demoralising & disheartening. You may find it helpful to seek the support & assistance of a therapist. Many have found therapy has helped them a lot. Your surgeon &/or medical team should be able to recommend someone who can be of help. All the best.

Welcome back. Gerd can develop after sleeve surgery not bypass. Bypass is usually the solution to gerd. Dumping isn’t very common & it can be controlled by dietary choices. Avoid high sugar & high fat & you’ll be fine. I have a sleeve & have the odd case of foamies though sometimes just the first stages when I accidentally eat something too dry or coarse or eat too quickly. When I do it doesn’t last long certainly not an hour. I think it is a more common side effect of the band. It will be a no to NSAIDS with sleeve or bypass. They’re too harsh in your much smaller tummy. Post surgery you will likely be prescribed an opiate like tramadol. You may not need them or only need them for less than a week. You will need to discuss with your surgeon & other doctors alternatives to NSAIDs if you took celebrex for joint, back or other long term regular pain management. As to juice, it may be an individual thing as to whether you can tolerate the acid content of certain juices. Juices are often on the list of things to avoid because of their high calorie content. Remember a single glass of juice contains a number of serves of fruit - more than you would eat as whole fruit. Better to eat the whole fruit & get a broader range of nutrients & fewer calories than from juice alone. Plus the whole fruit is more filling. All the best.

    Trying to decide

I did take all of the advice I've gotten here into consideration, so thank you all for that. One thing I did do yesterday was to reach out to an acquaintance who had gastric sleeve three years ago in a neighboring country. Apparently, she did go through a local doctor who sent her to have surgery overseas but closer than Poland or other countries in Eastern Europe. And it was all paid by the national health insurance. This doctor is an obesity expert and runs one of the two programs in the country that's recognized as adequate preparation for weight loss surgery, if you want to try to get the national insurance to pay for your operation. It's not on an inpatient basis, which is a plus. When my acquaintance did it, the wait between the prep course and the surgery was only three months, but it may be longer now. I did email the doctor to ask for an appointment, but I have no idea if they're accepting new patients or if they have a long waiting list. If they're like other doctors, they'll be going on vacation soon and I may not get an appointment until the fall or later. And I may not qualify for surgery paid by the national health insurance, since their general rule is that they operate on people with BMI 40 or higher, and mine is 37. As I understand it, they may approve surgery for someone with a BMI under 40 if they have enough co-morbidities. I have high blood pressure and the slightly elevated blood sugar test. I don't know if that's enough, but I guess I'll find out. If I don't qualify I probably won't be able to go to the hospital in the neighboring country that my acquaintance went to, since It's not a private hospital. At least, that's what she thought.

    Concern and fear

It’s not uncommon to have heat or cold intolerances post op. Some can only tolerate ice cold things, others only warm. It’s ok to have everything warm! Warm water/tea counts as fluid intake. Can you tolerate broth? Bone broth is nutritious with a good amount of protein. Some of the unflavored protein powders will mix in to a hot beverage. Sugar free hot chocolate might be a good option for you. As long as you are staying hydrated at this point you’ll be ok. Just keep trying new things in TINY amounts, your tolerances should increase as time goes on. If day after day you can’t meet your hydration goals reach out to your team again. I went many weeks in the beginning only getting in about 300 calories/day. I’m now 3 years out, have met goal, and can tolerate most anything. It gets better!
  6. Day 10 of pre-op liquid diet. Surgery scheduled for 6/13. My dr has me on a very strict 2 week liquid only 800 cal 60 grams protein max. The nutritionist explained that it’s to shrink the liver and make more room for the surgery to work. I wish I was able to have some vegetables…. Kinda miss chewing food.
  7. So for context. I had the surgery March 8th. So after my surgery they told me to eat jello, I couldn't it hurt incredibly bad. So I just didn't eat anything. In fact I eat maybe a bite of food a day, still. I get horrible pain when I eat or drink. I've told my surgeon's office and they say "Don't worry you have tons of fat to live off of, it's not a big deal." I can't eat even week one post-op food. I can't drink water, it has to be hot tea or I am met with awful, rough pain. On top of that, everything food related smells and tastes like ROT. Straight rotten food, garbage taste and smell. No one else I know who had the surgery suffered from either one of these things. Does anyone have any advice? Pre-Op: 398lbs Post-Op: 336lbs
  8. Hey guys I’m about 8 months out and I’m in a stall. I can not get the weight to drop and I swear it is creeping up or staying the same. I also am loosing motivation and the body dismorphia is worse. I had the gastric sleeve, I’m 23 and I just want to keep going but I need help. I am about 25lbs to my goal weight. Please help I need it
  9. I didn't run a trial at the liquid, by I did start following my post-op parameters for five weeks before my pre-op diet. During that five week run, I lost 26 pounds. I started my 3 week pre-op diet last Wednesday and when I weighed in this morning, I lost another 5.4 pounds this week.

    3 rd after surgery

I colored and used my Fitbit to track my water. I mindlessly watched YouTube videos. Do whatever it takes to pass the time. It gets better each day. You’ll be so happy to sleep in your own bed (day 4 for me). Then I was so happy when I could get out of a chair easily, (day 5). I made a habit of watching sunsets and being grateful for another day done. Then the weight really starts to come off, and you’re not even hungry. Going up stairs after two weeks feels like floating. It will get better.

    3 rd after surgery

Just know that it gets better! It helped me to be really organized tracking my water and protein shake intake, and having a little project to keep my mind off things in those first few days (I had a big kind of goofy paint by numbers poster I worked on). The first three days were the worst and then each day after that I felt a little better and a little better. Hang in there, you’ll get there.

So ... 4 protein shakes a day for 14 days. First 12 days I can have half an avocado a day and unlimited non-starchy vegetables. The last 2 days, is strict shakes only. I honestly think I'm just going to do shakes only all the way through. Or at least the last week. I honestly haven't decided. I don't have to start it until the 22nd so I'm still tossing it around in the brain.
  14. Yikes! Why would anyone do this voluntarily? Remember the goal of the pre-op liquid diet isn't to lose weight but to shrink your liver. It's not a particularly healthy diet in terms of long-term nutrition, and it's hard enough to manage the two weeks when you know surgery is coming up, I would never have done it otherwise.

    August surgery buddies!

I'm actually seriously considering doing a couple of test runs with the liquid diet to see what works and what doesn't. That way I can face it head-on and not get so anxious before August. Maybe start with three days and then take a break, then maybe add another day each time I attempt to do it. Not sure if this will work.... but it's worth a try!

Yes, just a day apart. I'm nervous about the two week liquid diet 😬
  19. At my recent doctor appointment on Tuesday 6/7 I was diagnosed with gastritis. It can happen after a gastric bypass. I explained that my stomach ALWAYS hurt and was progressing to be felt in breastbone/rib. It was a gnawing pain that affected eating and may explain my aversion to food other than soup and liquid. It was a completely new pain or feeling-it woke me up at night. Often I dismissed it as gas or hunger pain. But as it progressed it was AWFUL. I took my first dose of Omeprazole yesterday and I felt better. This medicine is over the counter Prilosec but STRONGER…over counter is 20mg I’m taking 40mg. It isn’t too common but a result of some patients. My doctor explained that the new hookup procedure isn’t natural. This DOESN’T happen to everyone only a few (lucky me). My stomach was bypassed and a pouch was made by hooking into intestines-my new stomach lining is mad at me. I have never ever had to use Prilosec in my life-never had acid reflux -stomach issues-or heartburn….it’s a new one for me 🙄. I go back to the doctor in two weeks. He told me I may need to take this forever but I hope I get a break in between omeprazole treatments. My concern is if I am dependent on this medication- it will deplete my Vitamin D reserves. I am happy I may know why I am uncomfortable. I can’t wait to eat normally. I’m still happy with my weight loss and looking forward to forgoing high blood pressure and high cholesterol…..and prevent diabetes!
  20. I finally got my date! August 18th! It took three months to jump through all the hoops, but finally I got the call with the date I changed from the sleeve to the bypass due to a few minor complications with acid. I feel strong about my decision and I'm super excited to move forward.

    Over eating

I didnt feel my real restriction until 4 months out. In the early stages, when I was full I got a runny nose. A month later I got hiccups. At 6 month plus, I have to guess because I dont feel my restriction for about an hour later. If I have eaten too much I pay for it for about 3 hours. About once a week I get really hungry and seem to be eating all day but then I eat very little the day after. I average about 700 to 800 cals a day.

    May 2022 surgery?

Oh yeah. Same place here. Surgery on the 24th. Actually gained half a pound right at the beginning of week 3. Not worried, supposed to be normal water gain as the body restores glycogen that it burnt through when we started very-low-calorie living. I started pureed yesterday. Lunch was tuna salad. It set well. Dinner, I pureed the taco meat, cheese, salsa and sour cream from the family's dinner. That didn't do so well. Didn't like the texture and it felt like a rock in my gut. All we can do is one day at a time. Keep on.
  23. I know this is a common one but im particularly excited about it because I distinctly remember being 340 lbs and watching these "progress" videos of other women with towels wrapped around their body, showing how they gradually start fitting into bath towels as they lose weight and I remember feeling so sad and discouraged...like I didn't have it in me to get there too. I'm traveling and in a hotel right now and to my surprise this is the first time a regular "hotel" towel has wrapped all the way around my body without a humongous gap exposing my side and stomach. I am so happy about this I can't even explain it. It just confirms it for me that I can have the things I want, that I deserve them too and am just as strong to fight for them. Photo: the first picture is from just a week preop, the second is from today. Yes...I had to censor my booty cheek lol that whole blue part is the towel that didn't close and that towel is bigger than this one I have here. Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app
  24. I’m so torn right now. I meet with my surgeon next week to discuss things but thought I’d. one here first… should I go with the sleeve or the bypass?? I was set on sleeve but now I’m having second thoughts… I feel like my eating habits/cravings/pcos will just find a way around sleeve and bypass is going to make that more difficult. BUT bypass is more expensive, and I’m self pay. What would you guys suggest!? SN- I have NO issues with gerd or reflux.
  25. I'm scheduled for July7. I'm not required to start pre op diet until 2 weeks prior which will be low carb very low cal. I started on my own yesterday with low carb moderate calorie to get a jump on it. Would love to get the first 20 pounds behind me before surgery day.
