  1. Still not IF-ing here, since I'm maintaining without it. But somewhere back in this thread I posted about my mom doing IF. Well she has now lost over 30 lbs and is into a normal BMI range. She hasn't been this thin in 30 years! She is insanely pleased with herself (as she should be). She's wanting to lose another 5 lbs or so, not more than 10 lbs. She didn't lose the weight through IF alone. She has basically been on our post WLS diet, 800 cals max, 60 g protein (with cheat days). But the IF has made it really easy for her to eat so little, but not be hungry. She said it is by far the easiest diet she has ever been on (and she's done them all over the years!) So I am still vicariously IF-ing! 🤣

    Weight loss post surgery

yes. You were pumped full of IV fluids in the hospital - and they contain a lot of sodium to boot. I've heard of people gaining 10 lbs or more from them. They'll work their way out in a few days. I just stayed off the scale that first week because I knew chances were good that my weight would be up, esp since I retain water when I get too much sodium!
  3. July 2018 i was 231 Starting weight. Pre op was 221. July 2019 136. I’m 5’4 1/2

    Ulcer?

Ok, so this is getting so weird!!! Sorry for your struggles! ((hugs)) I "think" I know EXACTLY what you are describing. I'm now seeing 2 people with this same thing that it felt like I had! I just had surgery about 3 weeks ago for a sudden internal hernia and twisted small intestine. They had to go in and physically touch and inspect every inch of my bowel before putting it back into my "gut sac". And the bowel doesn't like that. It causes it to "shut down" or go to sleep. And it caused what was termed an "incomplete ileus" which is kinda synonymous with a partial bowel obstruction. My symptoms (that were seen on CT scan and dx'd as a partial ileus/bowel obstruction) were kinda like yours. Everything that went down my piehole caused TERRIBLE nightmare cramping, pressure in my esophagus, shoulder pain, and Big D with terrible odor!! My tummy gurgled and boiled like "look out Big D is headin down the tracks". But it wouldn't necessarily cause me to go immediately. But when it came, it was sudden, and prolific and could happen 10-12 times per day. So I started treating it with raw sauerkraut juice (you should ask your doc if you can have that cuz it's acidic), kefir, yogurt with live cultures, and probiotic pills (you can sprinkle them in smoothies). And then follow your diet progression. Now after 3 weeks, my intestines are finally getting back to normal! Woooh! Big relief. No more pain, no more cramps, no more huge Big D's. I do take a 40mg of ppi that I empty from the capsule onto a spoon of unsweetened granny smith applesauce. And I avoid any kind of drug that slows down the intestines. Hope that helps you!!!

    💜AUGUST 2019 CHALLENGE💜

Pretending it is Saturday - walked in the park close to my house. Longest walk since surgury in June. Still under MD not to sweat and no exercise. It ‘twas slow. Missing New England cooler weather and hikes. Fun fact: all DC residents are 10 minute walk from a park. Lucky my close park is big and green!!!
  6. Hello there[emoji112][emoji112] I had the lapband out in early May and will be revising to the sleeve on the 16th, 10 days from you! Are you having the removal and revision simultaneously?? Wishing you a smooth surgery day and I'll be rooting for you![emoji169][emoji169][emoji169] Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app
  7. Girl you are rocking it! I was hoping to keep the NO hunger feeling for at least more than 2 days..BUT, I do feel the restriction which is critical. My gosh you are losing weight fast! How awesome!!! My body just does not want to let go of the weight. I'm...9 days post-op and have lost a whopping 8 lbs. I know that probably seems like I'm ungrateful..but maybe I've just read too many post of incredible 10 - 12 lb losses per week after surgery. And these are RECENT posts..lol. You know..I guess I'm not that far off from that...and I'm very very inactive due to a messed up knee but I've been trying to push myself to walk more each day regardless. I'll just keep focusing on putting one foot in front of the other. I know I'm in major ketosis as the test strips cannot get any deeper purple than the highest range one. Sometimes I see it slip into the next highest one (1 shade down?0 so I know my overall calories are low. A couple times a week I will chart my "eating" and I range between 300 to 350 calories a day. I really would like to keep it under 200 but I do not know how much that would help my weight loss.
  8. I am post op 13 days..I’m down 20lbs! Just about to hit the purée (not so sure about how I feel lol).. SW: 268 Surgery weight (sleeve): 07/22/19: 253 CE:238 GW: 160
  9. My doctor doesn't have me taking any vitamins. I go in every 2 weeks or so (started a month before surgery) and get s B12 shot & an IV of nutrients, mineral, etc. (potassium, magnesium) I haven't had any problems with the liquid diet. I am feeling NO hunger. I saw my dr. yesterday. He's pleased with my progress. 30 pounds! 10 were pre-op & 20 post. I'm nearly 2 weeks post-op. I have stayed with the clear liquids & may alternate clear with protein shakes. Doc says, "fine". He'd rather I take it slow than try to move too fast. I have an assortment of drinks, soups & shakes that I purchased here on the BP Store. They're quite good. I hope all your difficulties smooth themselves out. I guess I'm just lucky. Now... If I could only come up with some winning lottery numbers! LOL!

    The Maintenance Thread

OMG. Thank you so much for writing this post!!! I totally feel like I shouldn't be complaining but I am having anxiety about losing too quickly. I haven't had a stall and mentally I go into this weird unrealistic fear that I am going to have to get a NG tube for feedings since if it doesn't slow down I will be underweight in 2 months. I feel like I look healthy now, maybe a little "thick" but normal. I am barely in the healthy BMI (5'2.5 and today at 135.8, BMI of 21.6) however I feel already like I shouldn't lose but MAYBE another 5-10 pounds max, It does feel like I can't control it. I feel like I am almost sabotaging myself by forcing myself to eat when I am never hungry, eating more than I feel like to try to gets towards a half cup volume of food and all day I feel a little dread that I need to go get something else to eat to get calories in. I am trying to get 1000 calories now but closer to 800-900 the past week and still dropped 2-3 pounds! I also feel like I wish I could eat a muffin or something to get calories in. I had RNY and my MD program has potatoes but no bread, pasta, oatmeal etc. So nothing is high calorie. I am drinking 2% milk to try and increase. I have eaten a 1/4 cup of walnuts twice this past week but I think it upsets my system (maybe too much fat) I feel a little nauseated later. I think the thing that scares me is I read you should be losing 5 lbs/month after month 3 and you keep losing for 12-18 months. I will disappear before then. That's why even though I could lose another 5-10 and still be fine re BMI I feel like I need to get a handle on it now. Thank you again for posting. You helped me more than you will ever know!!!
  11. Oh, Yes!! It helped me. I found it to be SO much easier. I lost 10 lbs in those 2 weeks.

    Newbe

Hi everyone. I had surgery Wednesday July 31 2019 and today is Saturday August 2 2019. I’m on liquids only and I’m so hungry! I am drinking tons of different liquids including protein shakes. Is it normal to be this hungry so early in the process?
  13. I’m about 10 days post op revision VSG to RNY and everything that hits my stomach burns or makes me cramp. I have pain that radiates up into my left shoulder (not gas or a leak- I had an upper GI this past week) Not long after I have major diarrhea. My surgeon put me on carafate + the protonix I was already taking. He said my stomach was super inflamed. Do you think that sounds like symptoms of an ulcer and how long after treatment did it take for you all to feel normal???? Also, what foods/liquids were you able to take in? I need some reassurance here.
  14. Yes day 4 I started feeling better. You can do this. New_Me 2019
  15. Thank you very much. I just want to make sure I’m measuring this correctly. I saw someone in another forum post they were eating 10 ounces of food 2 months after surgery. I was thinking that’s quite a bit of food compared to what I see everyone else posting their food intake looks like.

    Reflux

Hi When are you taking the PPI? First thing in the AM may help the most with no food prior so that it can work alone and not compete with anything (confirm with Surgeon/Physician of course) Also you maybe eating to fast, past your limit or not chewing thoroughly. Any of this possible? Try eating 1 oz over 10 mins with regular pauses to see how you feel. Other than that try to go a step back in your plan to when food was easier to eat. You may simply not be ready to advance to a new food stage despite the planned timing. Your body will let you know this. If all else fails politely demand further testing to confirm there is nothing mechanical/structural going on. Good Luck 💜

    The Maintenance Thread

Still in the game! After revision i was counseled that i may lose a little more so im STILL trying to maintain in the 150s. Im 151 lbs currently and about 19 days post op. Not too rapid so I'm satisfied.
  21. I woke up this morning at 350lbs. Down 120lbs since my 10/8 surgery date. My lowest weight in over a decade. I don't know who needs to hear this but keep plugging away, No matter how hard it gets. It's worth it, so keep pushing!
  22. Hello, I had lapband removal July 12, d/t my insurance requirement I had to stay overnight. I was on a liquid diet the day of but my d came doctor/surgeon and said I could have food as tolerated. He told me I had to wait 3 months before I can have the RNY. So, I went home the next morning, no pain meds and was feeling great! I did walk after surgery several times around the unit and I told my doctor I was fine to go home but again my surgery required an overnight stay. My doctor told me he would send me home with something for pain and I told him no, but when I got home I started hurting on a scale of 1-10 around a 2. So, I took a couple of aleve and that did it for me. It was much better than the surgery of putting the lapband in but I had a realize band and my left side were my port was, was a lot more sore. So on my visit a week later, the doctor explained that the realize port was a bit different and he understood why I was a bit sore on the left side. I had 4 insertion sites. One were my port was which was about 2" long, one just above my navel about the same length, very small one on right side of abdomen and very small one just below my breast bone. No stitches just surgical glue. I know probably to much information but I got discouraged when I went for my check-up he said 6mths. I was speechless but know he knows what is best. I have a surgery consult set for the 14th of Aug. and really hoping he change his mind and say I can have it in October or November of this year d/t I paid my full deductible for 2019 prior to my surgery which was not fun at all.
  23. My HW was 216 (I'm 5'3") and that's how much I weighted when I began my 1 week liquid pre-op. Date of surgery my SW was 209. Here I am 7 weeks post-op (surgery June 21) and I've been stalled at around 193. I'm logging on my fitness pal, same place I logged when I lost 30 lbs in 4 months a few years ago. I went back to look at that weight loss which had NO stalls and averaged 2 lbs a week. And last year I went to Weight Watchers for 10 weeks and lost average of 1.5 lbs a week (until I quit LOL). Again NO stall at WW, either. Both times I recently lost consistantly week after week, and not I had 70+% of my stomach removed & I'm losing ZERO. I just feel so disappointed. After 6 months of excitedly jumping thru all the pre-op hoops to satisfy my insurance. After the super-duper excitement of finally getting my sleeve, this let down is shocking and causing me to wake to toss & turn 1/2 the night. I knew I'd have to put in effort and this wouldn't be easy, but also heard/read many success stories that said the weight basically melted off. I'm thinking to myself I just should have dieted myself on my own and lost. I sad and embarrassed, too. Embarrassed that those who knew I was having this surgery are probably looking at me expecting to see a change :(. I'd appreciate any input!
